File HASH

Hi, I'm not sure if I'm in the correct thread/category but here's my issue. I need to check the integrity of some .dll files in all of our Windows Servers and the checking is base on their specific hash keys. A sample of a file is linkinfo.dll
I tried to check its hash by using MD5 checker software and the result is listed on the screenshot below:
How do I check if the hash key is valid or if it has been compromised?
Regards,
Jeff

Hi
I agree with Rayzilt, I never seen a official list of file MD5, but I seen a KB that help to make that (but like Rayzilt's told, you still need another VM to compare);
From http://support.microsoft.com/kb/841290
How to verify the hash values for the files in the Windows directory and in all sub-directories
You can also build a hash database of your sensitive files and verify them regularly.
To create the database and to save it to the C:\Temp directory, type the following command:
fciv.exe -add %systemroot% -r -XML c:\temp\windows-hashes.XML
To list the contents of the database to the console, type the following command:
fciv.exe -list -XML c:\temp\windows-hashes.XML
To verify the contents of the XML database against the current file system files, type the following command:
fciv -v -XML c:\temp\windows-hashes.XML

  • DFS File Hash Keeps Changing?

    First some background:
    2 DFS Servers running Storage Server 2008 w/ SP2
Both servers are in a replication group that replicates a folder in the namespace to both servers.
The servers are in different AD sites connected by a fast WAN connection.
The replication schedule is set to 24/7
The problem I am having is that the replication backlog never catches up.  The backlog is currently at 1,900,000+ files but only from SERVER1 -> SERVER2.  Replication from SERVER2 -> SERVER1 is successful with no backlog.  The majority
of file changes are made on SERVER1.  After troubleshooting this for a week or so trying to find out why the backlog keeps increasing I've found the following:
The file hashes on SERVER1 are different than the file hashes on SERVER2 when checked with the DFSRDIAG FILEHASH command.  The hashes are different even on files with the same modified date, NTFS permissions, and size.
If I run a robocopy and copy files from SERVER1 to SERVER2 the hashes are the same.
Files I've added as recently as 3/31/2014 with no changes made since have different hashes on both servers which is causing DFS to try to replicate them even though it doesn't need to.
It seems like something is causing the file hashes to change on every single file in the replicated folder on one of the servers.  I've checked the antivirus (TrendMicro) and it is supported on DFS and isn't even configured to run any scheduled scans.
I'd like to reseed SERVER2 via robocopy so the hashes are all the same again but I'm afraid that same problem will just happen again.
Does anyone have any idea why the file hashes would be changing even if the file timestamp, permissions, size, etc the same?

I've pre-staged all 4TB of files with robocopy and checked the hash on 100 or so files on both servers to make sure they are matching.
After pre-staging I recreated the replication group and replicated folder.  I am currently waiting on initial sync.  The backlog is currently 2,000,000+ files and hasn't gone down much at all in the past 12 hours.
SERVER1 is set as the primary and SERVER2 is showing that it is waiting to perform initial replication (Event ID 4102.
How long should the initial sync take if all of the files have been pre-seeded?  I can't really tell if this is working or not.

  • How to find out if file contents under some document library SPListItem has changed

    hi,
I am building a Sync tool which will Sync SharePoint document library to some other service(e.g. FTP). I have added event handlers on the document library for ItemAdded, ItemUpdated etc.. etc.
Now i have one problem, when ever a file is updated (either custom properties and/or file content) then there is no way to check if its updating of content or custom fields. So everytime i need to upload my file to that FTP location. I want to get some indication
that this time file content is updated not the custom fields, or file content with custom fields are updated.
I have checked After and Before properties but its of no use. When ever you rename a file or just open the edit dialogbox and save it without updating any thing, all after and before properties are same :(
Need some solution for this, any help suggestion is appriciated.

  • WS-Federation metadata file for SelfSTS1 in ACSwithLocalSTS lab seems to be bad

Task 4 in this lab adds two Identity Providers SelfSTS1 and SelfSTS2. The form that defines SelfSTS1 WS-Federation metadata, references the lab file
Source\Assets\SelfSTS1\FederationMetada.xml  - and saving this form results with an error (see below)
Editing this xml file (to replace http:// with https:// does not solve the problem as processing this "corrected" metadata file results with a more generic error message - like "error processing metadata file". It likely means that the metadata file hash
    is stored somewhere.
If my analysis is correct, can I get the correct metadata files - as I would really like to finish this lab and use it in my application. It would also be helpful to get the information about how these two STS applications were created.

  • Naming huge amounts of files after "undelete" / photorec / etc?

    Hello!
Does someone already have a neat little script to automatically name a huge amount of files in multiple fuzzy sorts of ways? Like with id3-tags, exif tags, the first line / header of text documents of various formats... sort by file extension, mime-tag, file size if nothing else is there... and stuff? I'm only familiar with very few of the tools required and still failed miserably at getting them all together in a bash script.
If not: any hints on how to get started? I'm still missing a good way to deal with about everything except for images, mp3 & plain text...
    Thx!

I'm not sure if gprename does anything useful - if it does, I can't find it in the GUI.
easytag and krename are great, thanks! Just not fit for so many files and also I'd love if there was a way to do it without choosing pattern for everything manually (starting by the next time I need to do something like this ).  Maybe I should have written that from the beginning: I have about 90M files... might not be a single occasion (people don't learn -.-") and it's not supposed to be perfect: more like a quick & dirty automatic way of making it a little easier for the "end-user" to find his files in this huge mess. I don't care (much) if the script runs for days as long as I don't have to interact with it though, if the result is worth it.
So far now, I managed to reduce the amount of files by about 99% with my script (duplicates, damaged files, very small files, files that have extensions or contain lines of text that indicate they belonged to some programs cache or something), have them sorted by file extensions and give names to word documents, mp3 that have an id3 tag and photos that have exif data available. Most problematic at the moment:
    - Processing odt's at a reasonable speed. Extracting huge amounts to /tmp & grep/sed-ing stuff from the xml sucks (me too stoopid for awk ).
    - No idea how to get rid of all those files that were part of the windows installation or some other program. Especially huge amounts of videos that seem to have been part of tutorial / encyclopedia type of programs and help pages.
    - I'd love to try & get some info from a p2p network. I understand despite it being not very clever, many many people share their whole harddisk, so If I figure out how to query with file hashes or something for "most common file name" and "amount of peers that share / want to download", I could get very far at removing more useless files and naming others.

Only time I've seen stuff like this is when a proxy "scans" the downloaded .exe-files during download. Could that be the case in your scenario as well?

  • I followed the instructions to copy and paste ALL profile files from old PowerBook to new MacBook Pro, so why are no bookmarks now shown in Firefox?

    From the page
    https://support.mozilla.org/en-US/kb/recovering-important-data-from-an-old-profile#w_copying-files-between-profile-folders
After dragging and dropping the profile folder from the old PowerBook to the new MacBook Pro, I followed the copy/paste instructions, apparently successfully, to replace all the files in the latter with all the files in the former -- essentially to transfer my Firefox browser functionality from the old computer to the new. However, on starting Firefox, I have ZERO bookmarks (in other words, Firefox looks like it did when I downloaded and installed it a couple days ago). One note: When I performed the operation, I had used the new version of Firefox almost not at all, yet in the course of copying and pasting I had to permit replacement of HUNDREDS of bookmark files with identical names. How could THIS be?!?

It is normally best to only restore personal data that you really need (bookmarks, passwords, etc.) and not a full profile folder.
The xxxx in the name of the JSON backup (bookmarks-####-##-##_xxxx_$$$$.jsonlz4) denotes the number of bookmarks in the file and a file hash ($$$$) is appended to check if it is necessary to save a new backup, so only if there is a different hash because bookmarks were modified then a new backup is created.
If you remove the newer backups that were created before you restored the backup and only leave the bookmark backups from the saved profile then Firefox should rebuild the bookmarks when you remove all the places files.

  • Crystal Reports XI Pro About 25% of DLL File attributes changed on install

    Post Author: sakelly
    CA Forum: Deployment
I am having problems preparing an installation of Crystal Reports XI Pro in a Sanctuary Application Controlled environment where the unique file hashes of DLLs and EXEs need to be recorded and pre-authorised before they can execute.  This is because when Crystal Reports XI Pro installs it changes the content of a large number of dlls (for examples chartui.dll and CEReportSource.dll) which all have new file create and modify dates.  Hence the file hashes of a previous installation which are authorised for use are different and the application fails to run.Are these changes necessary?  It is quite rare to see any application change files this way (sometimes except for licensing reasons). Is there anyway of customising the install to stop the files from changing on install? Will it be safe to overwrite files that are installed with previously installed files (which have been authorised?)  I've done some basic testing and it appears ok but a lot of these files are only accessed when producing reports. Thanks,Shaun KellyFurther details on Sanctuary product http://www.lumension.com/Sanctuary_AC_Endpoint_Security.jsp?rpMenuId=118466

The closest to a solution I came up with was to try installing Crystal Reports XI from the cds. When the error occurs click to ignore the error and proceed with the install. After the install is finished, the installer will check for updates which gives a link to Crystal Reports XI Release 2 Service pack 4. This is a complete install file of around 1.7 GB in size. Using this install removes the old Crystal Reports XI Release 1 which is where this issue springs from, and installs Release 2 with no errors. Dll versions will change from 11 to 11_5 and the Crystal Viewer will have updated features, like their calendar no longer loads externally within a small internet explorer window, but rather it loads an internal calendar control. After you have installed the updated install file that is the Release 2 version, you can go to this link and install the Service Pack 5 update that Business Objects came out with. • DP - Files disappear from SMS_DP$\sms\bin

    ConfigMgr 2012R2
I have 149 DPs set up as Pull DPs.  Periodically, some of the DPs will stop getting content.  I've noticed that SMS_DP$\sms\bin only shows 10 files instead of the 25 that are supposed to be there:
    ccmcore.dll, ccmgencert.dll, ccmperf.dll, CCMUtilLib.dll, CommonUtils.dll, smscore.dll ,smsdp.dll ,smspxe.dll ,tscore.dll, TSMessaging.dll
If I copy these over from another working station, I can run "pulldp" and it seems to resolve.  Why is this occurring and what can I do to prevent it?
    Potentially relevant info:
    Environment runs SCEP
Fireamp has also been pushed to the environment
DPs are mostly server 2012 and have been P2V'd
I have about 100GB of content to these DPs via a T1, so re-installing the DP role is not a great option.

    Thank you for your reply,
As above, I don't find much useful in the distmgr.log (due to lack of knowing what is relevant in that log coupled with the short timeframe before it wraps around).

    Hey Ibrahim,
Use HashTab.  It's free and it's easy to install.
Once installed, highlight the file and click "Properties".  Go to the "File Hashes" tab and enter the MD5 value.

    Hi,

    I have tried in HP,But i coudn't get.
Please find the MAN pages below.... please tell me command....
    =====
    man md5summd5sum(1) md5sum(1)
    NAME
    md5sum - compute MD5 message digest
    SYNOPSIS
    md5sum [-k] [-n number] [file ...]
    DESCRIPTION
The md5sum command generates and prints a fingerprint and the filename
for each named file to the standard output.
md5sum is based on the well-known MD5 hashing algorithm. The resulting
fingerprint is 128-bit wide and is printed in hexadecimal. The -n
option allows md5sum to run in multithreaded mode. The number of
threads created for hashing input files in parallel is determined in
    the following order:
    1. number (if set and valid)
    2. The MD5_NTHREAD environment variable value (if set and
    valid)
    3. The number of active CPUs (if computable)
    4. One
For optimal performance, it is recommended that the -n option or the
MD5_NTHREAD variable be set to the number of active CPUs on a multi-
way system. By default, if neither -n nor MD5_NTHREAD is set, the
number of active CPUs is used. The maximum number of threads created
by md5sum is limited by the number of active CPUs on the system. On a
one-way host, multithreading does not improve performance. Instead, it
    degrades it (due to thrashing).
The standard input is used if no file names are specified.
Also note that when the md5sum command is hashing two or more input
files simultaneously using the -n option or the MD5_NTHREAD
environment variable, the fingerprint results are printed in the order
    of the input arguments.
md5sum is typically used to verify data integrity of a file between
two events or when transferring files between systems.
    OPTIONS
md5sum recognizes the following options and parameters:
-k Instead of the default output, prints the fingerprint, the
file size in octets, and the filename (similar to the cksum
    output).

    md5sum(1) md5sum(1)
    -n number
Sets command to multithreaded mode for input file hashing
with number threads. The default value (if the -n option is
not used) is dictated by the MD5_NTHREAD environment
variable value (if set and valid), or the number of active
CPUs (if computable), or one, in that order.
file Name of the file to hash. If no file is specified, the
    standard output is used.
Note that the -n option or the MD5_NTHREAD environment variable
specifies the number of threads used for hashing input files only.
Threads created by md5sum for administrative purposes (e.g. handling
signals or synchronization) are not accounted for by this variable.
Hence, the total number of threads created by md5sum will be X + 2,
where X is the number of threads specified by number , MD5_NTHREAD ,
the number of active CPU, the environment variable value, or the value
specified at the command line; 2 corresponds to the number of overhead
    threads.
    EXTERNAL INFLUENCES
Externally, the -n option is limited by the system tunable
max_thread_proc and the number of active CPUs. If -n is not used, then
the MD5_NTHREAD environment variable or the number of active CPUs is
used as the default number of threads to create for hashing purposes
    md5sum
    RETURN VALUE
Upon completion, md5sum returns one of the following values:
0 All files were processed successfully.
    >0 One or more files could not be processed.
If an inaccessible file is encountered, md5sum continues processing
the remaining files (if any), but the final exit status is affected.
    ERRORS
Errors are printed to standard error.
    EXAMPLES
Print the hash of file my_file1 to standard output:
    md5sum my_file1
Print to standard output the hash of files my_file1, my_file2, and
my_file3 using as many threads as the number of active CPU on the
    system:
    md5sum my_file1 my_file2 my_file3
    Hewlett-Packard Company - 2 - HP-UX Release 11i: April 2004
    md5sum(1) md5sum(1)
Print to standard output the hash of files my_file1, my_file2,
    my_file3, my_file4, and my_file5, using three threads:
    md5sum -n 3 my_file1 my_file2 my_file3 my_file4 my_file5
Print the my_file1 file fingerprint and size to standard output:
    md5sum -k my_file1
