FILE model support for CSV and fixed-length format!!
Hi all,
As I'm working on a data conversation project, we are in the middel to design whether the extraction for the data source should be in CSV or fixed-length. Here is the pros and cons:
CSV:
1. There are a lot of remarks field in the data which are all free text. It's really hard to define the record delimiter.
2. Extracted file size for CSV is relatively small compare with fixed-length.
fixed-length:
Even for fixed length, we can either
1. Extract the file without an separator/delimiter (1 row) with fixed column length
2. Extract the file with fixed column length per record and define the record delimiter to separarter the record.
I'd try all the above formats and it seems ODI is more prefer on CSV or combined mode (fixed column length) as:
1. The LKM (file to external table) need to be customzised to handle the file format which without any separator/delimiter
2. It is very hard to reverse the column definition for fixed-length (no delimiter)
Any suggestion?
Tao
You can transform your files to an xml format using respective tags:
eg:
<?xml version="1.0" encoding="UTF-8"?>
<MONEY>
<MoneyID>MoneyID0</MoneyID>
<ContractID>ContractID0</ContractID>
<EffectiveDate>2006-05-04T18:13:51.0Z</EffectiveDate>
<MessageDate>2006-05-04T18:13:51.0Z</MessageDate>
<ReversalIndicator>false</ReversalIndicator>
<PriorMoneyID>PriorMoney, something "ID0" for life;</PriorMoneyID>
<Amount>0</Amount>
<MoneyType>0</MoneyType>
<ExchangeDetails>
<CostBasis>0</CostBasis>
<ExchangeType>0</ExchangeType>
<MEC>false</MEC>
<LoanAmount>0</LoanAmount>
</ExchangeDetails>
</MONEY>
So, as you see, you can embed any symbol in a tag.
After creating this xml file, you can use XML technology in Topology Manager to map to this file and then create a data store based on this technology.
And you will be able to retrieve the data in this file under respective column headers without worrying about delimiters existing in the actual data.

Diff. between CRLF and fixed length IDoc
Hi,
Can someone explain the difference between CRLF and fixed length idoc? Please provide the link (if any) which gives a detailed description.
Thanks,
VishalI know this basic difference between the 2 types.. I would like to know if there is anything more to it?
Because I've a CRLF file where SEGNUM is 0 for all the segments. I am of the assumption that SEGNUM should indicate the segment number in a file..
Thanks,

Feature Request: Support for .idea and .psdx extensions
I've noticed that Adobe Bridge does not have any support for .idea and .psdx files. The .idea files will show a idea file icon but the .psdx will be a blank, unknown file icon. Both do not show any preview in Bridge. I do not know why this is as previews for these files can be seen when they are uploaded to creative cloud or the new creative cloud mobile app.
Hi,
I've logged an enhancement request on this.
Thanks,

Support for AWR and/or SR2???
Will Aperture soon add support for AWR and/or SR2 files (generated by the Sony DSLR-A100)? What about Photoshop, for that matter?
No, we have consolidated on the Apache XML/XSL stuff. You are free to use
whatever other parser you would like however. The Sun XML pkg should work
fine.

I think you're a little confused about what "Open Source" means. Itdoesn't mean "unsupported." If you want support then you need to pay forit,
just like any software. One of the advantages of open source software is
that you aren't tied to a single vendor for your support - anyone with the
appropriate skills can take the source code and
provide support, as BEA have chosen to do in this case.

ZAM support for Debian and CentOS
I'm planning to install Zenworks Asset Management and I would like to know if it would release a support for Debian and CentOS. We have a heterogenous network environment and there are servers that are running Debian and CentOS. Is it possible for ZAM to release a support for these operating systems?
Vindveif,
The version of Asset Management (7.5) that this forum covers, runs on
top of windows only. ZLM (7.3) only supports SLES and RedHat.

Maximum Nodes supported for NLB and Cluster in Windows Server 2008 Standard Edition ?
Hi.
I am looking for information How many nodes supported for NLB and Cluster in Windows Server 2008 Standard Edition ?
If you can provide for all the versions that would be great.
-Thanks
- Ajay ChananaHi,
You can configure a Windows server 2008 NLB cluster with up to 32 nodes. However,
scaling beyond 8 nodes will cause a slight performance hit because the network traffic is broadcasted to every node and only one NLB node accepts the connection.
For more detailed information, please refer to the link below:

Option to read fixed-length format, EXCEL or ASCII TAB delimited
Hi Experts,
I have a requirement for giving an option to read fixed-length format, EXCEL or ASCII TAB delimited in the selection screen.Kindly help me how can i read the fixed length format?
Thanks,
AnkitaAs far as I could have understood your problem
You have to read the file with
Open dataset 'file path+name' FOR INPUT in text mode encoding default.
and move its contents to string type variable
Transfer to 'file path+name' to v_string.
Now as per your requirements you need to use Offsets to transfer the data into a work area.
For example
wa_task-year= v_string(4).
wa_task-month= v_string+4(2).
Please confirm if this is your requirement. -
Illustrator CS5 Not the Default for EPS and other Vector Formats
Hey everyone, the issue I'm haveing is not just with Illustrator, but sense I couldnt find a general CS5 forum, and Illustrator was the last CS5 application i noticed this for I'm hoping to find some answers here.
So on to the issue....
I have noticed that on other computers (Macs for sure) that Illustrator, Photoshop, Dreamweaver etc... are set as the default handlers of certain file types that are associated with each application, and as such, give each filetype there own little icons reflecting such.
However on my system (Windows 7 Ultimate x64) this does not seem to be the case. I can go in and set them as default manually, which I have done for the filetypes I use most frequently, but I do not get to enjoy the nice icons that made for each filetype, i just get a bland, default icon that is the same for every filetype.
Is there a way to fix this issue?
Thanks for you help.Yes, I think i mentioned it before that I knew I could set the default app through Explorer (right clicking, going to "open with" etc..) but this doesn't let you use any of the custom icons that come with the adobe applications, it sets it as the default icon associated witht he particular application. I'll take a look in the properties when I get home but, but I think you may be referring to the "open with" dialogue.
Most applications like Firefox, iTunes etc.. have a button in there preferences menu to "set as default" for all file types they can open, however I don't see such an option in any Adobe applications except for bridge, and that doesn't seem to do anything.

I believe in the properties pane for one of those files it will display the default app for opening such files and you can change it there as well and make it apply to all similar files.

Parameters for Ingesting wide fixed-length files?
I created an SSIS process to ingest fixed-length text files into this table.
CREATE TABLE [dbo].[Temp_Source_Fixed](
[Column 0] [text] NULL,
[ID] [int] IDENTITY(1,1) NOT NULL,
CONSTRAINT [Temp_Source_Fixed_ID] PRIMARY KEY CLUSTERED
[ID] ASC
)WITH (PAD_INDEX = OFF, STATISTICS_NORECOMPUTE = OFF, IGNORE_DUP_KEY = OFF, ALLOW_ROW_LOCKS = ON, ALLOW_PAGE_LOCKS = ON) ON [PRIMARY]
) ON [PRIMARY] TEXTIMAGE_ON [PRIMARY]
It works fine with most of the files, but one file has almost 26000 characters per row and the process halts with a truncation error.
I suspect that if I change a parameter on the connection manager it will work, since I can manually use
the SSMS wizard to import manually if I specify Text Stream (DT_Text) for the data type of Column 0 versus String (DT_STR).
For the connection manager I have
In the connection string I have Provider=SQLNCLI10.1 and Auto Translate=False.
In Misc parameters, DelayValidation=False.
For the Data Flow Task I have
DefaultBufferSize is 10485760
Any ideas on what I need to change?
Thanks,
Jnana
Jnana SivanandaYou need the column in question defined in SSIS as DT_Text.
You need to either drop the flat file connector and re-do it with this datatype, or access the Advanced Editor input and output column and alter its datatype there
