File Monitoring question

Dear experts and gurus,
I am rather new at solman. I was tasked to create file monitoring in Solman. Here is my question :
File Monitoring :
1) Monitoring Creation time of file :
    Background : I am moniitoring a file created for an outbound interface. A file will be created in the /out folder for a few minutes and then automatically transfer to the /archive folder. I am setting up a monitoring process to see whether the file has been delayed.
   Monitoring at /out folder      : Problem is the file only exist for a few minutes in the /out folder . I have set up a process to monitor it every 5 minutes but I think the gap is still too big . So it always report as a red alert although a file has arrived and been transferred.
   Monitoring at /archive folder : Problem is, in the archive folder , there are already lots of files in the folder with similar file name but with an extension of the timestamp ( eg. fileServer.txt_20110810220045 ) . I do not think Solman has the functionality to automatically detect delta files ( new files ). So everytime solman goes to read the /archive folder , it did not raise any alert since it is reading old files ( hence, no delay ) . The filtering criteria in Solman is also not flexible/dynamic enough for me to differentiate new incoming files. ( cant put a dynamic variant to only look for file name with new dates )
Is there any workaround to achieve file monitoring for the above scenario ?
Or am I doing the wrong approach ?
i do not have monitoring set up at the other box .

As the file is existing shorter than 5 minute in the /out folder we have no possibility to monitor there.
As of now there is also not possible to configure the selection of file name with dynamic date in it.
The selection of files with dynamic date in the name is being evaluated for the next release of St-A/PI.
Possible workaround:
In case the number of files arriving in the /archive folder is always constant per day e.g. 12 files.
The older files could be moved to another location e.g. /archive/old and
you could try to use the file monitor key figure "number of files" available as of ST-A/PI 01N to monitor
on folder /archive.

Hold down the Option key while you boot your Mac. Then, it should show you a selection of devices. Click your flash drive and it will boot from that.

File Monitor - Not working properly on SMB file share

The "File Monitor" does not trigger on SMB file share, i think this might be a bug.
I have tried the same "File Monitor" on a windows share, and it works like intended. However, when I use the same runbook on a Solaris SMB share, it does not trigger properly. It triggers when I delete or rename a file, but not any thing else (like
create, changed, etc) I have turned all the triggers on just to see what actually makes it trigger...
I'm using specified authentication (domain user and password)
The SMB folder is shared on a Solaris (SunOS 5.10).
Can anyone confirm that they also have this problem?
Is there a patch to fix this? Thanks.

BPM File monitoring - Alerts not triggered.

Hi All,
we have defined the application monitor for file monitoring in BPM.
the problem is we are not getting any alerts so far,
the file monitoring paramaters we gave are
1. file path, filename * and pattern: az*
we are actually monitoring the availablity of the incoming file, there are also files existing of the same name, the only differentiator is the time stamp.
As per logic, we will be monitoring the latest file that reaches the folder. but no oupt till now.
can any one pls tell how can we proceed further, for the requirement mentioned above, all the necassary authorizations are provided.

The status is gray in RZ20. But when i see in dswp it is in green only.
I tried activating the file size and filae age parameters, according to setup guide it is mentioned that
After activating, the most recent file is considered for creation time of file.
for file size and file age , the existing file details are considered.
but in my case, creation time of file getting some alerts.....eventhogh no file has come after activation.
And file size and file age are still in gray when old file are there available in the specified folder.
kinldy advice on why this is happening.

BPMon - File monitoring issue

Hi,
I have configured file monitoring (pattern non-xml) on one interface. Validation Check is Green (file was found) but I can't get any alert (alert stays Grey).
I tested direct collection or via background job: no change.
On my Solman:
- DSWP_BPM_ALERTS is NOT showing any BOFIL* alerttype nor my MonID
- DSWP_BPM_TIMESCH is well indicating collections are due
- CCMS is well showing my MonID but stays grey
- SM_SIDCLNTxxx_READ is working fine
On my Managed System:
- SM37: bpm_data_collection is well indicating my MonID collection was triggered
- SE38: /SSF/PTABBROWSER (Relid TC, ProjectID EXS, focus on "I" results) is empty (00000)
- SU56: SM_SID user (read RFC) is granted the correct permissions according to troubleshooting docu.
I wonder whether I can check somewhere on the managed system the results of the data collection (result table ? CCMS ?)
ST-A/PI is 01Q SP1.

Hi Rémi,
I recently experienced the same situation and engaged OSS after going through similar troubleshooting steps, so maybe the same solution will work for you.
With Solution Manager SP10, BPMon uses the TMW RFC destination (if defined) rather than the read RFC destination (which I missed when reviewing note 784752).
Can you check the authorizations on SMTM<SID> in the managed system? I suspect it doesn't have the necessary S_CTS_ADMI authorization object.

My Mac shows file with question mark, what now.

Press the power button down to force a emergency use only hardware shutdown.
Press and hold the Option/alt key on the built in keyboard, boot the machine.
If MacintoshHD appears, select it and click the arrow, then in System Preferences > Startup Disk reset that. Done.
Sometimes a NVRAM reset is required then the above done again.

You might need this if you don't have a recent backup and your problem is software related, Disk Utiltiy can't fix the drive and recommends you backup, erase and install.
.Create a data recovery/undelete external boot drive
If Disk Utility + Hardware Test shows no boot drive, then you have a dead drive or cable, or Mac issue.

File Monitoring - Not able to see File Path on the Detail Information Tab

Hi Experts:
I am setting up the "File Monitoring" in the Solution Manager. I am having STA/PI01L_CRM570 on the Solution Manager.
And on the Satelite System - ECC I have STA/PI 01L_ECC600
While I am setting up the parameters, I am supposed to provide the file path in "Detail Information" tab page.
But I am just able to see two tabs:
Count and Short Text (optional).
I checked all the other tab but not able to locate where I need to provide the file path.
Can any one let me know, If I am missing anything or do I need to do any further steps.
Similarly for the File Size setting:
I am not able to see where I can define The parameter "File Pattern (e.g. *.log, *.txt or any string)" is mandatory.
Pls let me know.

You can find the FilePath in the 'Detail Information' tab if you double click the initial and predefined counter 001.

Can't find the Active File Monitor Service

I just purchased and installed Photoshop Elements 13 on my Windows 8.1 OS. I was having the version 9 on my previous computer and never had any issue with it.
I want to define the folder that I need to monitor in Photoshop Elements 13. But when I click on the option in the "File" menu, I get a message saying that I need to start the service "Adobe Active File Monitor". Problem is that this service seems not to be installed. It is not listed in my services. How can I fix that? Is there another installation that I need to run aside to have this service installed?

P.S: I know how to monitor, start, stop, set services. It is just not listed, so probably not installed.

OK forget about this. I tried the chat with a technician that didn't know what to tell me. He referred me to a senior engineer that suggested to simply uninstall and reinstall the software which indeed fixed the problem.
So the solution: uninstall and reinstall.

Adobe Active File Monitor V12 will not start/ program crashes & other errors

I have recently installed Version 12 of Photoshop Elements on Windows XP Pro (service pack 3).
If I try to specify "Watched Folders" PE tells me to start the Adobe Active File Monitor in Admin Tools - Services.
If I try to manually start this service it reports that:
"Could not start the Adobe Active File Monitor V12 service on local computer Error 1067. The process terminated unexpectedly"
If I look at the Event Viewer in XP there are numerous errors reporting that this service has attempted to start automatically with the following error:

In addition the Photoshop Organiser crashes frequently and If I edit a picture and save it to the stack, it does not appear in the catalogue so I have to manually get the picture and stack it with the original. I assume that these problems are related to the above problem.
My original installation co-existed with Version 3 so I uninstalled this old version then uninstaled and reinstalled version 12. This made no difference to the problem.
Any ideas on this problem?

Killing the AutoAnalyzer using these instructions (http://barbarabrundage.com/2013/10/31/the-elements-12-auto-analyzer-adobes-evil-undead/doe s ) does seem to have solved the problem of edited pictures not being saved to the stack - although I have noticed that since disabling the autoanalyzer, when saving a file, the editor almost always now does not display the option window which allows you to choose if you want to save with the stack etc. It usually only shows the JPEG quality selector window.
Its too early for me to say if making this change has reduced the frequency of crashes but it certainly has not solved the problem with the Watched Folders so Im still looking for a solution to this one.

There are four general causes of this issue:
1. The computer's PRAM no longer contains a valid startup disk setting when there aren't any problems with the disk itself. This can be checked for by pressing the Option key and seeing if the drive appears.
2. The internal drive's directory structure has become damaged. This requires usage of an alternate bootable system to perform the repair.
3. Critical system files have been deleted. This requires usage of an alternate bootable system to reinstall them.
4. The internal drive has died or become unplugged. This is the most likely case if the computer took a sharp impact or there are unusual sounds coming from its location.

.AVI file format question

Upgrading from CS2 to Photoshop CS5
I found out after the fact that in order to edit video you need CS5 Extended.
So, I then went and returned regular and upgraded to Photoshop CS5 extended.
(See my other thread for details, but installing the 12.01 patch is not an option at this time.)
Try to use file open to open a .AVI file from one of my cameras and get a message of "unrecognized file format".
Was able to import the 7 second video into layers.
Checked support issues, and installed Quicktime 7.6.8
Also, due to 12.01 issues, reinstalled Photoshop CS5 Extended AFTER upgraded Quicktime to 7.6.8
Machine specs: Toshiba Satellite P30 Intel Pentium 4 CPU 3.60 GHZ (Hyperthreading Dual Core) 2GB RAM ATI Mobility Radeon X600 Win XP Professional SP3 About 12 GB disk space available at install time.
Note that Quicktime will open the .AVI file in question with no problems, as well as Roxio software (trying to get rid of that with CS5)

I talked to support via phone and it appears the the problem is in installation. The install of CS5 extended did not take over the regular install. So, I need to start by completely uninstalling AGAIN and installed extended from scratch AGAIN.
I did try the program mention GSPOT as well. It says AVI codecs are installed on the machine inquestion. I will get more informaiton tonight afte rI do the re-install and see what happens.

File Serializable question

hi,
i know i've seen plenty of posts asking how to transfer files, my question is why doesn't simplying sending a file object from the client to the server work, file just implement Serializable? is it because the contents don't travel with the object? i'm pretty sure the object will go across, via socket programming or rmi, but why not the contents, or will they?

does not hold the contents, it just contains
information about the file, such as its path.Very true. I never thought about it in this depth before, but the [url http://java.sun.com/j2se/1.4.1/docs/api/java/io/File.html]API says:
"An abstract representation of file and directory pathnames."
That's all it is, a representation, not an actualy file.

Active file monitor adobe

I can't find and open service "the active file monitor Adobe". Not present in the services part from the configurations.

If you invoke File > Watch Folders and get the error message “The Watch Folder Service is unavailable”, restart the file-monitor service:
Go to the Windows Control Panel > Administrative Tools > Services, select “Adobe Active File Monitor vx” (substitute your pse version number for x). Right-click Properties, make sure Start Type is set to Automatic. Then click Start.
The Active File Monitor service is supposed to be always running, but for some unknown reason, it sometimes gets configured to not run.

Checkpointing - control file contents question

Some clarification is needed if possible...
When you commit a transaction:
- commit scn is recorded in the itl of the data block and undo segment header
- lgwr records the committed scn (for all data blocks involved) to the redo log
Checkpoint Event
- (3 seconds or possibly less passes by) CKPT wakes up and signals DBWn to write dirty (modified and committed)
blocks to disk
- CKPT records the scn of those blocks in the control file (data file and redo thread sections) and the data file
header (task of checkpoint when a log switch occurs)
- Checkpoint position in the Redo Log is forwarded
Control file contents question:
When LGWR writes the commit scn to the redo log, who writes the scn to the control file? LGWR or CKPT?
Also, when is the redo thread scn written?

This is my understanding of the stuff. Feel free to correct me.
Checkpoint SCN , as I mentioned in my last reply is the marker of the point till which the data is "chekpointed" to the datafiles. This marker tells the controlfile that in the case of the crash, where to start recovery of the datafile and have to go which extent in the redo stream? This is only available in the datafile header and in the controlfile. This doesn't get recorded in the redo log file/stream.
I mentioned checkpoint queue in my reply too. Though I couldn't find any reference directly mentioned between this and in the checkpoint SCN but I believe my theory , if not totall, partially is correct. The incremental checkpoint is the stuff which makes the decision that how many redo blocks needs to be applied to the datafile if its closed without a proper checkpoint. So this part is maintained in the Datafile header itself in the form of the checkpoint SCN. When not matched with the conrolfile checkpoint SCN, which is always higher than this, a recovery is reported.
I hope its somewhat correct. Do let me know your views too.

Text log file Monitor

Hi Team,
i have a task to create a log file example SCOM.log, the log has all text entries and the pattern is like below

we need to monitor anything which has "DMGATEWAY internal error in plugin:" string.
sometimes we have greater then 10 entries with in few seconds.
once the log file reaches 10MB all the entries are moved to an archive log file that means the present SCOM.log file is empty and start from line one again.
any suggestions \ solution will be a great help and also let me know if you need any further information

When monitoring a log file, Operations Manager remembers the last line read within the file (a 'high water mark'). It will not re-read data before
this point unless the file is deleted and recreated, or renamed and recreated, which will reset the high water mark.
If a logfile is deleted and recreated with the same name within the same minute, the high water mark will not be reset, and log entries will
be ignored until the high water mark is exceeded.
An implication of this is that log files that are cleared periodically without being renamed and recreated, or deleted and recreated, will not have entries in them processed until the high water mark from before the log is cleared is exceeded.
Operations Manager cannot monitor 'circular log files' (i.e. log files that get to a certain size or line count, then start writing the newest entries at the beginning of the log) for the same reason. The log file must be deleted or renamed and then recreated,
or the application configured to write to a new log once the current log is filled.
