FileName.exists()  problem

i am having trouble getting the .exists() to work.
i imported java.io.*
and the code line using it is:
String fileName = "TimeLog.dat";
if ( fileName.exists())
blah blah blah blah
but my compiler keeps telling me that exists is an unknown method
ne help?

"how would i do that without creating the file and there by making it exist? "
new java.io.File("filename"); does NOT create a new file.
It creates an object that DESCRIBES a file.
You use the .exists method of File to see if the file described by a particular instance exists.
If you find that the File instance you create doesn't exist, you can create an empty version of it with the .createNewFile() method.
If you want to write stuff to the file, then you can get a writer passing the File instance as a constructor. Eg:
File myFile = new File("file.txt");
FileWriter myWriter = new FileWriter(myFile);

  • 11g View Criteria "Exists" Problem!!

    Jdeveloper Version 11.1.1.1.0
    Example: Model HR
    Hi everybody,
    I am using the example model HR and i would like to get a view criteria to search the departments by name and employees by the lastname. But i need to get the departments when the "firstNameEmployee" is empty even though they are no employees.
    Now i get only the departments with some employee.
    That is a example of my concrete problem. In the view must have only the attributes of department.
    and here is the query:
    ( ( ( UPPER(Departments.DEPARTMENT_NAME) LIKE UPPER('%' || :VariableNameDepartament || '%') ) OR ( :VariableNameDepartament IS NULL ) )
    AND (EXISTS(SELECT 1 FROM EMPLOYEES Employees WHERE ( ( ( UPPER(Employees.LAST_NAME) = UPPER(:VariableNameEmployee) ) OR ( :VariableNameEmployeeIS NULL ) ) )
    AND (Departments.DEPARTMENT_ID = Employees.DEPARTMENT_ID))) )
    Thanks!

    Hi,
    Using view criteria does not change anything. After the query, the view object only contains the filtered rows.
    So you can get the result the same way you did before.
    Gabriel.
    ps: I hope I got your use case correctly. If not please give us some more detail

  • The dreaded 3F0, "hard disk not exist" problem

    Okay, I have a degree in EE with a minor in comp sci.  I understand how bios' work, etc.  This is why the "answers" HP "tech support" gave me make absolutely no sense.   Could someone please shed some light on this bizarre problem?   I am trying to install a BRAND NEW, WORKING hard drive in a DV7-6163 and the laptop refuses to recognize the existence of the SATA drive.   I have tried this drive in another laptop and IT WORKS,  I have tried other working hard drives in this machine and they DO NOT work.   I have checked to make sure the SATA cable was good....yes!    I went as far as to switch the connector from the DVD drive to the SATA port that was meant for the hard drive.   Guess what,  IT WORKS and the laptop thinks there is a hard drive installed (it even runs the hd diag.. no more "hard disk not exist" error!!)  SO I now know that that actual hardware port is able to communicate with a SATA device.  HP has been LESS THAN HELPFUL as they insist it must be a bad drive or bad main board (even after I explained my various tests demonstrate that it cannot be (why does the port that refuses to recognize the hard drive talk fine to the DVD drive??).   So the only thing left is either a corrupted bios, or a major firmware issue with the code.    Could someone please point me in the right direction?   This was a very expensive laptop and I am ready to throw it through a window!!

    Could you provide a link to the UEFI diagnostics utility?  I tried to google it, but there are so many hits, it makes it confusing to know which one!    Are you saying that the UEFI diag dos utility can bypass the bios functions?  HP blatently LIES about the ability to access the advanced bios settings!   How do I know?  I have the Insyde H20 EzH20 tool.   For some reason i cannot get it to work with my dv7 bios (it is RSA signed), but it works fine on my DV6 bios and allows you to access a plethora of advanced settings!   Namely the SATA mode which I sorely need access to.     How HP justifies not allowing a customer access to settings on property we own is beyond me.   Of course the impetus must be they want to be able to charge us to change a simple setting.    I will NEVER buy HP again!  Twenty years ago they were a respectable brand.   Today, they are all about squeezing every drop of blood from the customer!

  • File Sender Filename scheme problem

    Hello,
    we need to pick two types of files from the same folder on FTP server:
    Examples of filenames are:
    FILEINVRPT12_28102010.xml  and  FILESLSRPT12_28102010.xml
    We tried to use Advanced selection of files for these two file types and the filename scheme used was
    FILEINVRPT.xml in filename and FILESLSRPT.xml in Filename mask for Advanced selection
    All files of type FILEINVRPT.xml  have been picked up but FILESLSRPT.xml were not.
    We tried to remove advanced selection and even used *.xml and . as filename scheme ,still these files aren't picked up.
    Then we tried giving exact filename (hardcoded) for some of these files and they were picked up ,so there should be no problem with these files.
    Can anyone please suggest what could be the reason for this strange behaviour?
    Thanks a lot.
    Best Regards,
    Shweta

    Hi Shwetha,
    As per my understanding, you need to pick two different files(not having same naming convension) from the same folder. I see that you are using Advanced selection for Source files.
    This can be easily achieved, I have done it and providing you the steps to configure the adapter.
    1. In the File Access parameters, provide the source directory and filename as FILE*.xml.
    2. Now, check the option, advanced selection for source files.
    provide the directory = 10.20.30.40
    and the File Name Mask FILEINVRPT.xml, FILESLSRPT.xml
    Ensure that the file placed in the FTP should have the same naming convension of the filename.
    Thanks,

  • Oracle directory does not exist problem

    db=10g
    I have a problem with an oracle directory that I have created.
    The database resides on server A
    The oracle directory resides on server B named UPLOAD_DIR.
    I have created read, write and execute grants to the oracle directory.
    I have created an external table that is referencing data from the oracle directory, I can successfully query this table.
    I have created a package that inserts data from the external table to another table using a simple insert statement like so wrapped in a procedure:
    PROCEDURE insert_prc
    AS
    BEGIN
    INSERT
      INTO table_x
         ( col_name
    SELECT col_name

    They will need read/write.

  • Filename space problem

    I have Iplanet web server(iws, 6.0 SP4) talking with weblogic 6.1 (using NSAPI plug-in). the request reaches iws and is internally redirected to weblogic. the problem i have is that there is a folder in weblogic which has spaces in filenames.
    When I try to access any file having spaces through Iplanet having spaces, the Get call only encodes URI with the letters of the filename till the first space and I get error back. The same problem is not seen when I access through Weblogic. Is there a know problem with Iplanet when spaces occur in URI?. how to resolve it

    Is the problem in the GET request sent to iWS or in the GET request sent from iWS to WebLogic? If it's the former, make sure the URL is properly encoded in the referring page. If it's the latter, the problem is a defect in the WebLogic NSAPI plugin.

  • Java.io.File exists() problem

    I have a web application deployed on a Windows 2000 server and am running Tomcat 4. I want to check for the existence of an image file before displaying it and am trying to use the java.io.File.exists() method. I am using the following code:
    String strPicUrl = "/images/thefile.jpg"; //Actual value comes from database
    File theFile = new File(application.getRealPath(strPicUrl));
    out.print("File Exists: " + theFile.exists() + "<br>");the actual file name in this example is "/images/theFile.jpg", and theFile.exists() always returns true if the file is there, but differs in case. If I try to display the image it doesnt show up under Tomcat because aliasing is turned off by default. I need to find a way to determine if a file exists based on actual case matching. This way if I get a "true" value, the file should be accessible and/or viewable via the JSP engine.
    Any ideas how to perform a case sensitive "exists()" regardless of the underlying OS file system?

    This looks awesome, but when I tried to implement it without creating a class, I get a method error. Here is the code below:
    String theDir = "C:\\Dir\\Subdir\\";
    FileFilter theFilter = new FileFilter() {
         private String _theFile = null;
         public boolean accept(File file)
              if (file.isDirectory()) return false;
              String fileName = file.getName();
              if (fileName.endsWith(_theFile)) return true;
              return false;
         public void setTheFile(String theFileParam)
              _theFile = theFileParam;
    theFilter.setTheFile("theFile.jpg");When I run this I get the following error:
    [javac] ...blah error stuff...
    [javac] cannot resolve symbol
    [javac] symbol : method setTheFile (java.lang.String)
    [javac] location: interface java.io.FileFilter
    [javac] theFilter.setTheFile("theFile.jpg");
    Since I am invoking the FileFilter object directly and not instantiating it in a class, is that causing the error or am I declaring "setTheFile()" wrong?

  • Package does not exist problem

    Hello everyone:
    I am a very new programmer student, and I'm having a problem I cannot seem to resolve. I am setting up a method for a JButton, and with the first inputs I'm getting a package does not exist error. Here is the code in question:
    private void placeOrderJButtonActionPerformed( ActionEvent event )
              double subtotal = 0.00;
              // calculate subtotal
              if ( hamburgerJRadioButton.isSelected() )
                   subtotal += 6.95;
              else if ( pizzaJRadioButton.isSelected() )
                   subtotal += 5.95;
              else
                   subtotal += 4.95;
              // declare display format
              DecimalFormat dollars = new DecimalFormat( "$0.00" );
              // display subtotal
              subtotalJTextField.setText( dollars.format( subtotal ) );
    It is coming back with these errors:
    C:\Users\Brian\Desktop\LunchOrderForm.java:255: <identifier> expected
              subtotalJTextField.setText( dollars.format( subtotal ) );
    ^
    C:\Users\Brian\Desktop\LunchOrderForm.java:255: package subtotalJTextField does not exist
              subtotalJTextField.setText( dollars.format( subtotal ) );
    I declared subtotalJTextField as an instance variable, but I'm not sure what its telling me here. Could anyone help?

    When you post code, click on the "code" label and paste the code between the code tags.

    ^It appears that the line with the error is not inside a method. Java does not allow you to write code like this outside a method (or an initializer block).

  • Filename sorting problem (acrobat)

    Hi
    I have a Adobe CS4 (Acrobat, Illustrator, Photoshop etc). The problem is that the filenames listed  in Open File window (does not matter what you I click 'Open File' icon,  go to Menu - Open, or Crtl+O) are always sorted in Descending order. I want them to be sorted Ascending and to get it that way I have to change the View to Table, Click on Column header to re-sort them. This happens in all CS4 application and really makes my life difficult because I cant change the way it sorts files. What I tried so far without any luck:
    - changed sorting in Open File window within Acrobat, but it does not remember that
    - did previous operation running Acrobat as local Admin
    - changed the sorting in Windows Explorer, does not affect Acrobat
    I will appreciate if anyone let me know how to fix this problem,
    Lance

    apparently it was not an Adobe, but Windows issue. I found a fix and want to share it with others:
    ===============================================================================
    Somehow or another, the sort order of the files can get changed in the
    File Open Dialog Box, as well as any other common dialog box that lists
    files based on the same control.
    It is maddenly difficult to find the fix for this using Google.
    Anyway, the fix:
    Right click My Computer, choose Explore.
    Click on the C: Drive in the left pane.
    Click on the View Menu, then choose List.
    Right click in the empty whitespace area in the right pane where the
    files get listed.
    Choose Arrange Icons By.
    Pick "Name".
    Verify files are sorted alphabetically. If not, repeat.
    Press and hold the control key, then click on the "X" to close
    Explorer.
    Then you can reopen explorer and set whatever default view you want in
    explorer.
    The key here, is that the file open dialog box, and all other similar
    controls, use the sort method saved when in "List" view. Nowhere else
    have I seen this. If you do it using "Details" view, it won't fix the
    dialog box sort order.
    I post this in the hopes that it might show up in a Google search the
    next time I screw it up and can't remember how to fix it.
    The above might only be true for my computer, but I have verified it,
    and finally squashed the little cockroach of a problem.

        DATA_TAB                        = IBKPF
    pls help me to resolve this issue as it is very urgent.

    Hi,
    Instead of using the FM GUI_DOWNLOAD, use the OPEN DATASET statement. GUI_DOWNLOAD is for files from the presentation server, while OPEN DATASET is for files on the application server.
    you can use for example:
    DATA data_stringTYPE xstring.
        OPEN DATASET file_name FOR INPUT IN BINARY MODE.
        READ DATASET file_name INTO data_string.
        CLOSE DATASET file_name.
    Good luck!

  • Problem RFC2FILE: Filename generation problem

    Hi, well first i have to say that the filename is properly created and the file is well written with the exact filename as done in the mapping. So i use an UDF for generating the filename.
    But now I am confused, because the filename is also inside of the payload - of course.
    Inside the Mapping from RFC to File I have configured an element in the target datatype called <FILENAME>. This is used to give me the right filename for using in file receiver communication channel.
    So i am using the tab in the cc for getting the Variable FILENAME with the following expression: payload:MT_Account_SCI_BA,1,FILENAME,1,filename,1
    Also I activated the "Adapter specific Message attribute" triggering the first three boxes including "Filename".
    Is this the right configuration?! It seems to be because file is created well.
    But the Filename is also written inside the payload so how can i get rid of this?!
    br

    Hallo Fritz,
    variable substitution and adapter specific message atrribute(ASMA) are two different ways to set the target filename dynamically.
    I have come accross your case before. After reading dotzens of sdn blogs I decided to use the ASMA, while ASMAs are coming from a special portion of the XML message header called "Dynamic Configuration", which has nothing to do with the payload and will not cause any results in your target file.
    1) You should create an UDF to generate the filename in the Dynamic Configuration during the mapping. Check out the following sample of UDF:
    http://wiki.sdn.sap.com/wiki/display/Snippets/UsingDynamicConfiguration
    2) Disable the mapping of the field "FileName" in your target field mapping
    3) Disable the variable substitution in the communication channel
    4) Activate the adapter specific message atrribute and select the checkbox of Filename
    Hope this helps.
    Cheers,
    Chen

  • 9iDS / ODS 10g co-existance problem

    I have a 9.2 database, 9ids (9.0.2.12.2) and ODS 10g (9.0.4.0.19) installed in separate Oracle Homes.
    After installation my PATH looks like:
    P:\oracle\10g\bin;O:\oracle\9iDS\bin;O:\oracle\ora92\bin;P:\oracle\10g\jdk\jre\bin\classic;P:\oracle\10g\jdk\jre\bin;P:\oracle\10g\jdk\jre\bin\client;P:\oracle\10g\jlib;P:\oracle\10g\jre\1.4.1\bin;P:\oracle\10g\jre\1.1.8\bin;O:\oracle\9iDS\jre\1.3.1\bin;O:\oracle\9iDS\jre\1.4.0\bin;O:\oracle\9iDS\jdk\jre\bin\classic;O:\oracle\9iDS\jdk\jre\bin;O:\oracle\9iDS\jlib;G:\Program Files\Oracle\jre\1.3.1\bin;G:\Program Files\Oracle\jre\1.1.8\bin;%SystemRoot%\system32;%SystemRoot%;%SystemRoot%\System32\Wbem;G:\Program Files\Common Files\Adaptec Shared\System;O:\Program Files\Executive Software\Diskeeper\
    When I now start the OC4J instance of the 9ids oracle home, then I get a FRM-92160: WEB Client Version too old when I open the url http://localhost:8888/forms90/f90servlet.
    When I stop OC4J, remove every entry of 10g from the PATH environment variable, restart OC4J of 9iDS, then everything is OK.
    I have no problems with the OC4J-instance of 10g when the PATH contains the 10g, 9ids and the database entries.

    Jean,
    the Oracle10g IDS was shipped because OracelAS 10g went production on Solaris. The AS port for Windows is expected for early next year and so is iDS. To allow people to test and develope against OracleAS 10g, the ids was released as preview (this is as far as I know yet).
    when you start OC4J the Oracle Home is passed to the java program, so if the OC4J needs to call programs, it must
    search relative to this Oracle Home and not relay on the PATH environment variable of the operating system
    This is only true for Forms modules. When you add both directories to the System path then its Windows that decides how to pick a named executable. You would have to set the PATH explicilty when launching OC4J to avoid this conflict.
