FileReference.save() loses file extension on Windows

Hi all,
I've run into an issue that I'm hoping someone has a workaround for. I'm using FileReference.save in a few places in my project. We ran into a bug today where the save operation loses the file extension under certain conditions. Those conditions are:
The user is running on Windows and has hide file extensions turned on (the default)
The user modifies the file name before saving.
If the user has file extensions turned on or just saves without modifying the file name everything works fine.
Does anyone know a workaround or fix for this problem?
Thanks in advance!

sorry Codeflayer, there's no way round it as far as i know (and ive tried, believe me)
and its a feature, not a bug

  • Illustrator extend script save() changes file extension

If I open a PDF in Illustrator, make a change, and save using the menu option or shortcut, the file is saved as expected.
If I try to use extend script (i.e. app.activeDocument.save(), or .saveAs()), the file extension is renamed to .ai. How do I keep my original filename when saving with extend script?

Got it working by using .saveAs() with PDFSaveOptions

  • HT4642 how do I save with file extensions in 09.

Numbers 08 had a check box to save a file with the extension (it didn't always work when saving to pdf) but 09 doesn't save the file with the extension (.numbers) by default and doesn't have an option to save .pdf when saving as a pdf. Is there a way to change this or is it not necessary? I'm worried that some clients with older versions may not be able to open the file without the extension.

    Hello blinkless,
Numbers is capable of exporting to a variety of different formats (each with the appropriate extension).
Export in PDF, Excel, CSV, or Numbers ’09 file formats
Choose File > Export To > [file format] (from the File menu at the top of your computer screen).
Save a spreadsheet in another format

  • Saving attachments on Snow leopard mail loses file extension when saving over an existing document

Saving attachments on Snow leopard mail loses the file extension when clicking on an existing file to copy the name. Is there something I can switch on in the preferences to fix this?

I work for a publishing company where our clients send their copy to us in Word documents. We might have several versions sent to us before the final version comes in.
It is instances like this where we want to overwrite a document on the server with the most up-to-date version (which is usually named differently to the original file). We really don't want to clutter the folder with lots of different revisions. The quick way to do this is to click on the document we are replacing (this copies the document name). Previous versions of OSX Mail used to keep the file extension but Snow Leopard seems to remove it.
It's annoying as there is no particular logic to this. We just have to manually type ".doc" at the end of the document.
Incidentally, this happens with any attachment file type.

  • How do I save PSD files created in windows so MAC users can open and work

I have been designing photoshop files for sale to photographers online and all of my work has been created in a windows 7 system. I had a photographer contact me saying that the PSD was trouble to open and that the fonts would not work on his MAC computer.
Can someone supply me with information on creating/saving windows PSD files so that a MAC user can open them and also use the fonts I supply with the files.
The files I create are multilayered PSD's and contain fonts for windows PC use and I don't want to exclude MAC users from utilizing my work.
    Any help appriciated.

Just save.  There is no difference in files between platforms.
There are some Windows-centric font formats that aren't portable, by any OpenType or TrueType font will be portable between platforms.

  • How can I use my time capsule to save files from my windows PC (Windows 8.1)?

I have been to see the iStore close to where I live but I am frustrated to say that they are no help what so ever. The technical desk there freely admits that they do not how to do it and all they say is "apparently it is easy. Just follow the instructions on screen" which helps me no end!
I have the Time Capsule set up on my mac and want to use part of the disc to save my files from my Windows PC (running Windows 8.1) that is on the same home network.
I have found the apple forums so helpful in the past that I am pinning on my hopes on anyone that can help me via the forum now!

Load the airport utility for windows. Sadly the most recent one is old.
    http://support.apple.com/kb/dl1547
Although it is for windows 7 it does work on 8 and 8.1 .. tell us if you have problems loading it. Some people find it won't work without using safe mode.
The utility will not help a lot to setup the latest model TC.. it is fine for Gen4 and earlier. But it does load bonjour for windows and a disk access agent.
The TC should run simple names.. Short.. keep them below 10 characters if you can. No spaces and pure alphanumeric.
That includes the base station name and wireless name.
Once all of that is correct, open windows explorer and type in the address bar.
\\TCname or \\TCipaddress where you replace TCname with the new short name or TCipaddress with obviously its actual IP.
You will then get a request for username and password. Username is whatever.. admin will do. Password type in your disk access password.. public by default.
TC is not designed to allow partitions so you cannot partition the TC disk. Create a folder and simply copy and paste your files to the folder.
NOTE:: The TC cannot back itself up. So make sure you do not move files to the TC without having another copy.
NOTE:: The TC does not happily mix TM backups and data.
See http://pondini.org/TM/Home.html For info about TM and the TC.
    This area in particular.

  • How to render and save a file as windows media file or mp3?

I have worked in Sony Vegas 9 and I was hoping Adobe Premier Pro CC was similar--- but its not. I can't figure out how to render and save a file as a windows media or mp3 or in any format for that matter.

Search for exporting in the help file
Not all for PProCC, but The PPro/Encore tutorial list in message #3 http://forums.adobe.com/message/2276578 may also help, with more help in message #5
PS - rendering is the process of creating temporary files to aid in timeline playback, while exporting creates new files

  • Help?! Messed up my file extensions

Profuse apologies - I'm pretty sure this has been asked again and again,  but the suggested work around is having no effect on my AA3.
When saving a file, one in a long series, I mistakenly changed one name from the suggested list of .mp3's.....but forgot to change the file type from Windows PCM to mp3.
So, of course, whenever I try to save a file as a Windows PCM now, in the list of extensions that come up for it, the first is *.mp3
I've tried manually naming files as .wav, and of course that works fine for that file - but it hasn't removed the *.mp3 from Auditions pre set.......?????

Well it should have, I think. Which probably means that a registry setting is not being overwritten somewhere, or something else in the OS file saving system hasn't been either. Anybody else have any experience of this? I don't fancy screwing up a working system to find out!

  • Is there a way to hide ALL file extensions?

    Hi
I am looking for a way to get OS X to hide ALL file extensions on the entire computer. I don't know why, but they really annoy me! I liked OS 9 and earlier because they didn't have them, and including them in OS X seems like a step backward to me. Wherever I can I simply don't save with file extensions (MS Office still retains this ability), and most applications will still open their files if you delete the file extension, but I do have a number of applications that require a file extension (such as OmniGraffle Pro), and it is very laborious to have to go through every file in order to hide the file extension. Is there some kind of master setting that you can apply to a volume in order to hide every file extension in it?

    Hi All,
I have found this tutorial that partially solves the problem. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_NhRFxJCAQw
It is a quick way to hide the extensions of all files that have them in a given folder and the folders inside it, using automator. It does not hide the extensions of any file you add to the folder subsequently, and you can not apply it to a volume or a home folder. It is more of a labour-saving tool than an actual solution, but it is vastly better than having to get info for every single file.
As the author of the tutorial notes in his video, this is an option that apple could fix by just adding one more check-box to the finder preferences window. Or better still they could have just left things the way they were before and not introduced them in the first place... does anyone even know what they are for anyway? (Apart from to annoy you with a random bit of text at the end of a filename that you didn't place there.)

  • How do I get PSE 12 to save a TIFF file with file extension ".tiff" instead of ".tif"?

I am using PSE 12 as an external editor for Aperture.  When I ask to use an external photo editor, Aperture creates a .tiff file in my Aperture folder, launches PSE 12 and tells it to edit that .tiff file.  This all works great.  When I am done editing in PSE 12, I ask it to save the file and it saves it back to the original Aperture folder with a .tif extension.  I can instead say "save as" and then it suggests the file name with a .tif extension.  When I correct the extension to .tiff it warns me that I'm going to overwrite the file (exactly what I want!).  I say yes and then I find out that PSE did not overwrite the file, but wrote it as a .tif file anyway.  I have to go to the folder, delete the .tiff file and rename the .tif file to .tiff and then everything is fine - but what a hassle.  Has anyone solved this problem?

That's not quite where the problem lies, which is good, because you can't change that. The real solution is that you don't ever want to see the save as window in PSE if you are using PSE as external editor for any program. When you see it you aren't creating a version for your asset management program. Go to the PSE preferences>saving files>on first save and choose to save over existing file. That should do what you want.

  • I can no longer directly print from the USPS print servelet. I now have to save the file and rename the extension to PDF load in another program to print. It used to be automatic. What happened?

When trying to print from the USPS website (to print a label) when I click to pay and print instead of my print selection screen coming up I get the "Firefox doesn't know what to do with this" screen. THrough some web searching I found I can save the file, then change the extension to PDF and load it in another program and print but it adds two steps and is a real pain. Why would this have changed????

It is possible that your anti-virus software is corrupting the downloaded files or otherwise interfering with downloading files by Firefox.<br />
Try to disable the real-time (live) scanning of files in your anti-virus software temporarily to see if that makes downloading work.

  • Embedded Windows Media PLayer With Non-Standard File Extension

I have embedded a windows media player in a asp.net web page, using the usual
<object> and <embed> tags. The video is served by an ashx (http handler). When I try to play the video, I usually (but not always) get an error message telling me that the file extension (ashx) does not match the file format.
This happens in IE (8, 9, 10, 11) and also in Firefox (latest) with the WMP plugin.
I know that the tags (with classid, etc) are correct because the media player displays and allows me to click the 'play' button.
The ashx returns the correct mime type (video/x-ms-wmv) and a valid file name (somevideo.wmv) in the response headers. I have tried content-disposition attachment and inline.
    I have tried urls using 'http://', 'https://', and '//' (which I prefer)
If I put the url (including the .ashx) of the video file in the browser address bar directly, the video downloads and plays in the standalone media player.
If I modify the object tag to use a direct path to the video file (/somewhere/somevideo.wmv), it works - but I can't use this as a solution.
The same ashx serves up video and audio in various other formats with out any fuss - it just seems that the embedded windows media player doesn't like it.
This has been working for several years - I think this is some new behavior, though I can't identify what has changed, other than browser updates.
Any ideas on what could be causing this? Am I missing something simple?

  • UPPER and lower case file extensions for Photo Shop Elements using Windows 7

How do I persuade WIndows 7 to show both UPPER and lower case file extensions, which is a very useful facility offered by my ancient, 2002, version of Photoshop Elements? When processing large volumes (100 plus) photos it is very useful to be able to spot those that have been processed among those awaiting my gentle touch. The JPEG file extension produced by my camera is UPPER case so by using "Save as" with lower case the modified photos are immediately spotted. This worked fine on Windows XP and the same programme has loaded and works well on my new laptop which came loaded with Windows 7 EXCEPT that it persists in using UPPER case all the time, irrespective of the preference settings in PSE. HELP!
    Camperman1

In PSE there is a facility "File > process multiple files".
Using this facility you can actually process multiple files at one go and you can easily rename images.

    1. Can ID be configured so that it doesn't save the .indd extension every time (when writing a PostScript file as well).

No, nor should you. This isn't OS9.
Those file extension should be left alone.
