Files recieved being saved in Media Cache

Hey, my friend has been sending me pictures for some time now but over the past 2 days something has changed.
Originally they were saved in the recieved files folder and full size, Now they are saved in the Media cache folder and at a lower resolution, also 2 versions, 800x400 and 230x164. They were named their original file names too but now they are a mishmash of letters and numbers and have "pimgpsh_fullsize_distr" on the end of their file names.
Nothing has changed for both of us, we both use desktop clients as well.
Any solution to this problem?

Why the hell did they decide to change it in this backwards stupid way? It literally adds three stages to a system that only had one. Originally you just saved it to an area, no fuss. Now you have to download the bloody preview, then RIGHT CLICK IT (because adding another button is easy and fast... piss off XBONE makers, this is piss poor design elements), and then from there, REESTABLISH WHERE THE BLOODY THING IS SUPPOSED TO GO (Once again, beautiful design you monkeys, positively brilliant) since it gives you a broken path! Then, and only then, will the pissing thing download! And the best part is now you have TWO feckin' copies of the same thing, thus eating up more space! There's a reason I refuse to upgrade to your gutted and **bleep**e app (which is in no way good or worth it, being only tolerable for a phone), and this is one of many reasons.
And none of you pillock schills which will likely come in and suggest "UPDATERGHBEALR" will convince me on it; the design ethos is indubitably **bleep**e, the features were sliced, the navigation is a pain in the nards, and apps are the **bleep**e I use on phones. You will have to do the same thing you did to thousands of other users, and I know you wankers will do it, is to destroy the coding of the non-app skypes. And guess what I'll do if you try that? Use some other system.

Your Windows friend should ask in a Windows forum why his email client won't open attached jpg files. We have no idea what email client he is using or how his Windows security is configured.

  • Need to re-burn a DVD, but some source files are missing. But Media Cache folder has them all.

hi all. I have PE3 and the issue is this: I needed a DVD of a project I'd completed a year ago, and I didn't have an old copy of the DVD. So I decided to re-burn it. But on opening the project, it seems some of the source files have been misplaced on my computer, so it says 'media offline'.
I figured I'd still be able to burn it though, because the Media Cache folder contained all the required files...
However it starts to burn the DVD and then stops at 49% saying transcoding error.
Q1: can you still burn a DVD if it says 'media offline' but you know all the source files are present in the Media Cache folder?
    Q2: what's the transcoding error?
    thx

The Media Cache folder contains files that are only of use to PE during internal editing and will NOT solve your lost video problem.
Once a Project is completed, that have no outside value.
The contents are CFA and PEK files, which is the Conformed Audio and Waveform Display, respectively (no video here to my knowledge).
And I'm not aware of any way to make them useful (outside of PE).
If you happen to have your Project and source video/audio files intact, and then delete the contents of the Media Cache folder, upon re-opening the Project, PE will regenerate the CFA and PEK files. Again this is only if you have the Project and all the source files (Assets)...

  • Library files not being saved

I have just recently began getting a msg-"The itunes library file cannot be saved. You do not have enough access privileges for this operation." I ran a diagnostic test and it says "this user is not an administrator." Can anyone tell me how to go about fixing this problem please?

I just went into the program files and opened the iTunes folder and right clicked on the iTunes file. One of the options was to run as administrator so i clicked it and now the problem seems to be gone. Somehow my admin rights got deleted it seems. Thanks for your reply.

  • My CR2 files are being saved as PNG and not PSD

When I import files into Elements 12 Organizer, I want to use the Instant Fix Smart Fix option. The CR2 files are being exported to the PNG format, and I want them to be PSD files, I don't have a way to return to the options of how to save my files by using the Instant Fix button. I really would appreciate some help on this. I can't seem to get any tech support by navigating the Adobe Web site - I always land in the Forums.

In PSE12, whenever I want to use the smart fix option in the organizer for a raw file, I get a dialog with various format options and the possibility to check one of those formats by default. If I check the checkbox to always use that format and not to display the menu, I find myself in the same situation as yours.
I don't know of a way to get the menu back... Deleting the organizer preferences should help, unless other users have a better idea.

  • Files not being saved correctly

I have a problem with what appears to be different versions of a file being mixed up on the server.
A user reports that she was working on a file last night on our OS 10.4 server, after 6PM, and was having problems saving. She says the server responded as being busy; also, when she initially was opening the file it was giving various older version of the file, even though she was opening it from the the same location. This morning she says that the file is now not in the state she last saved it in, and the modification time says 5:08, even though she was working on it past 6:00. She says that after saving and closing it last night, she opened it back up again to make sure it actually did save, and it appeared to, but this morning it seems to have lost much of the changes.
Does anyone have any suggestions on how I can begin to solve this? How can I look at previous or other versions of the file? If you don't have any specific information that could help, could you possibly point me toward documentation that would help me in general with this situation?

Thanks but I tried this and no longer am able to open my files. It suggests I copy them and reformat the drive. My LaCie external HD does not mount unless I restart. It shows my files, but I am unable to open them. Could it be a power cord? I've seen some mention HD not mounting because of power cord problems. I don't know how to copy the files from the external HD to a new HD if it's the problem with the whole HD.

  • Psd files are being saved as .14 file format and I cannot open them

I have been creating a few large (100MB+) files in Adobe Photoshop CS4. I saved the files both as .psd and .jpg. When I restarted my computer the next day, I went to open the file and instead of seeing the normal Photoshop icon on the file it was just a blank page icon. After attempting to open it in CS4 it flashes an alert saying, "Could not complete your request because it is not the right kind of document. Then when I hover my cursor over the icon the File Type says "14 File"
I then clicked the help button in CS4 to solve the problem only to be greeted with another error message of, "There was an error loading the Adobe Help Application, you may need to re-install the application and the help component" which would be all well and good if I were at home and had the original handy. Unfortunately I am out of town and unable to do so. I do not wish to buy another version of Photoshop but I need to work on these files. Please Help

I'm not sure what happened. I would suspect something with your system, hopefully not malware.
Run a Anti virus scan. Also do some disk maintenance, check disk, cleanup, and defrag.
You can rename the files with the correct extensions and see if they open.
Let's see. You don't have access to your discs, but you can download the installer:
    Download CS4 products
Have your serial number ready and if CS4 was an upgrade, the qualifying serial number.
You can these under the account you registered them under with Adobe.
    Usually here: https://www.adobe.com/account/my-products-services.html
If you uninstall the old CS4, use the Cleaner tool to remove any remnants.
Also checkmark "Remove Preferences" when uninstalling.
Do this all using your admin account.

I get compilation error right away. If I change back to VB, it is
working. But I cannot used VB as all other files in the project are
careated with C#. Please help!!!!! Thank you so much.
    compilation error --

The dataset and the parameters are created with Dreamweaver.
    How could those be invalid?
Thanks a lot for your help.

Did you start by creating a new ASP VBScript file? Make sure
you start by creating a new ASP.NET C# file. Then when you save the
    file it should be correct.

  • Render Files Are Being Saved onto My Mac Book Hard Drive...?

    Hi All -
So, I was highly curious as to why I have such little disk space on the hard drive on my Mac Book Pro and discovered that there is a file called "Render Files" on my hard drive which contains an enormous amount of video footage from movies I've edited in FCP.
I don't understand why these files are going into my hard drive...? I have an external My Book connected to my computer. In FCP under System Settings, on the Scratch Book tab, Video Capture, Video Render and Audio Render are all checked off and to the right of this my My Book is listed. So I thought everything would be going into my My Book external drive.
However, I looked into My Book and noticed that there is a file that says Capture Scratch that seems to have all of the captured footage of these movies. So, I'm thoroughly confused as to what this "Render Files" file is doing on my hard drive and how can I just get all video footage to automatically store on my external My Book drive. I'm afraid that if I delete the files in the "Render Files" that I'm going to create a real disaster.
Any advice or clarification on this would be most appreciated.
    Thanks so much!

    Hi -
Couple of options for you to consider:
Open the Render Folder that you have found on your internal hard drive and sort the files by date. Are the files recent / from the current project that you are working on?
If they are then I would go to
    http://www.digitalrebellion.com/pref_man.htm
download Preference Manager and trash your preferences. This will cause you to lose your current preferences, favorites, etc., which you will have to manually reset - but often clears up strange behavior in FCP. I would then go back and reset my Scratch Disk settings to the external drive.
Is there at Render Files folder on your external drive? Open that and sort be date and see if your current project render files are there.
If they are, that would mean the render files you found on your internal drive are from projects prior to you assigning the files to your external drive.
    Hope this helps.

  • How can I tell where a file will be saved?

I realize that sounds a bit slow, but I'm working on a project with many differen files (Keynote, iBooks, Pages, etc.). I make ever effort to work from one external drive, and usually succeed, but occasionally I grab a file from one of the backup drives. And when I do, it gets saved to that backup drive rather than the working drive. Thus my caution, and a desire to be able to double-check where a file's being saved.
I can't figure out how to do that. When I want to check I have to search the recent file and see where it's located using the path indicator in Finder.
I hope I've missed something simple.
    Thanks

If you open a file from another drive, then that will be its save location unless you Duplicate and save or use Save As. So, if you open, edit, then save, it will save to the exact same location it was in.
If you Duplicate, then Save (or Save As), it will present the file save dialog to pick the location and name.
If you don't want to edit the files on the backup drive, you should lock them so you cannot save over them. That will force the system to tell you it cannot be written and choose another location.
There is nothing that will ask you for a destination every time you do a plain save. That would drive everybody nuts.
If the backup drive you are using supports versions under OS X, then you can lock the originals.
Or, you can lock them in the Finder. Get Info, and check the lock checkbox. In Lion, all files would auto-lock, but everyone complained about how terrible that was, so it is now gone in Mountain Lion. Sounds like something you could use.

  • I am having a problem with files in media cache folder related to themes in PrE7.

I have PrE7/PSE7 and like others noticed my media cache folder kept growing.  In particular there were .pek and .cfa files for three files that weren't in any of my projects.  As I dug around I discovered they were Themes, ones that I never used.  As I played more I found that these were the only themes that when previewed did not have any sound.  My fear is that they are corrupt and and that is why the sound files are being created.  Can somebody check theirs and tell me if they should have sound or not?
    Thanks,
    Mike

As far as I know everything is stock from the original load.  I didn't have any luck finding any meaningful references to issues with themes.  It would be nice if somebody could confirm if the themes mentioned above do actually have audio before I try a reload of the software.  If Adobe monitors these forums as I would hope they do, maybe they could chime in with some type of acknowledgement (aware of bug but no fix or patch available...etc.)  But then again, 8 is released...7 is history...:(
    Bill thanks for your help...:)
I'm going to leave the post open over the weekend in hopes I'll get the info I requested then close it.  Thanks again.

  • Why is this massive media cache file on my C drive?

Running Adobe CS5 (NOT 6) on a Windows 7 PC.
I thought I had made sure that everything was on my D or E drives since my C drive is an SSD and I don't want anything but the basics on it.
Well, I have nearly 4GB of Media Cache eating up SSD space and no way to know if I can delete it, how to delete it, how to move that directory, etc.
Whenever I start a project I have my source files on my E drive and I list my D drive as my scratch drive.
Here is a screenshot showing the exact location of this huge Media Cashe folder.
Gents, I'd greatly appreciate some assistance. My SSD is being eaten alive.
Can this stuff be deleted? If so, how? What exactly IS that stuff and why is it on the C drive?

    Hi msp1518,
Thanks for the posting adobe forums,
These are the files for conforming audio, generating peak files for audio.
Yes, you can delete these files once you have completed the project in premiere pro.
Just, close the premiere pro : Just delete the files inside the Media cache files and Media Cache folder.

  • "Create ACC Version" without files being saved in iTunes?

Hi, I want to create ACC versions of all the songs in of my iTunes library to put on my external hard drive. The problem is, once i create the ACCs, they're saved in iTunes, so now i have 2 different formats of every song. I have changed the iTunes media folder location to save on my external hard drive, but i still end up with duplicates for some reason. Is there a way to create the ACC versions without them being saved in iTunes? Thanks.

If you haven't used Smart Playlists before, review the page at the link below to learn some more.
Then create one using "Kind" as a criteria. You can set it to include only ACC files (you can use "Get Info" on a file to examine details and identify what the field values are).

  • What are the advantages/disadvantages to "Save Media Cache files next to originals when possible?

I just noticed that I have over 7,000 files and 46.7 GB in my Media Cache Files folder.  I know I can just delete all the files in this folder and Premiere will automatically rebuild the files when needed.  But, are there any advantages or disadvantages to saving the files next to the originals?  I assume that means that it will write these files wherever I'm storing my media files...

I'd say storing your cache with your media would decrease your performance.  Having them on separate volumes/drives means that Premiere can read/write from them at the same time, instead of having to read/write one or the other, one at a time.
Additionally, PPro is create cache files from your original media, and it's always best practice to read from one drive, while writing to another.
    TL;DR It's for Performance. ! ! ! !

  • "Media Cache Files" is a huge folder - is it necessary data or temporary data that I could delete?

My folder "Media Cache Files" (found in: profiles > appdata > roaming > adobe > common > media cache files) is currently over 200 GB big and I was wondering whether all of this data is necessary for my projects (or for anything else?) or whether it is temporary data that I can delete without causing any problems for my saved projects or the programme itself? Does anybody know? Thanks in advance!!!

Mylenium, Thanks for your immediate reply! This helps me a lot! ... and my laptop will be oh so happy to have less GB.
