FileVault and automatic resize after logout

Hi,
is it possible to configure FileVault to automaticle resize the encrypted partition when the user logsout? When there's some free space on the FileVault encrypted partition and the user logsout FileVault asks the user if it should free the space now or later. I often shutdown the system by a program automaticle and I always confirm this question with the same answer: Yes, free the space now!
It would be fine if FileVault could do this automaticly.

The operative word in this discussion and inherent in your question is "Automatic." The user should always have the ultimate choice of either Yes or No, but not in my opinion, Automatic. If FileVault always (automatically) freed the space and the user had a portable there may not be enough power remaining to complete the process. The inevitable loss of data will be the result.
Your second example is valid from the perspective of security , but if your encrypted data is that sensitive why are you using a FileVault protected partition to view a DVD? I would suggest that you use a different account for casual activities.
As good as FileVault is in protecting your sensitive data, it also presents the danger of locking up your files in an irretrievable ball of one's and zero's. Backups are critical.
The cautions and warnings are prominent in any of the Apple Knowledge Base articles referring to the use of FileVault. If a user is unfamiliar with any aspect of FileVault, it should not in my opinion be activated.
If I had a portable computer, I would consider the use of FileVault but since I do not, an Encrypted Disk Image and individual user accounts serves my purpose for desktop security.

DVD Wont Load and Automatically Ejects After Upgrading to OS X 10.5.7

I took the updates last night for 10.5.7 , iTunes, etc, and now when I insert a DVD (data disc burned from the same MacBook Pro and used to work fine), it just ejects the DVD after a minute or so. I rebooted the MacBook Pro, and it still happens. There are no messages in /var/log/system that yield any clues. I set CD & DVD options to "ignore" for music, pictures and video CD/DVD.
This is a huge problem for me. As I said, it's a data disc not a movie, and I need this stuff for work. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

If my assessment is correct, the LIDE 200 driver is version 14.8.1 and dated 26-Sep-2008. It is possible that the driver will not work with the latest version of OSX. I would advise that you contact Canon and ask them the question.

It is not uncommon (though irritating) that devices no longer work when an OS is upgraded. One has to ask the question if (or why) the driver was not written in such a way as to be OS version independent.

I spoke to Canon over here in Australia. Not helpful at all. In fact they were about as useful as an ashtray on on motorcycle. Having said that the tech seemed to think that there would be an update soon. But that is assuming that Canon are aware that there is a problem with that Scanner under OS X 10.5.7.

Having problems with email on iPhone, iCloud, and Automatic downloads after changing email.

I recently changed my email and because of it, I can no longer use iCloud or Automatic Downloads. Automatic Downlloads says "This device is already associated with an Apple ID. Please wait 80 days to associate it with another one." iCoud says "The max amount of free accounts have been activated on this iPhone". Also, when I try to send and email from my iPhone and I type in "M", the first letter of my name, it comes up with my old email address, although it is not part of a contact my the iPhone. Would restoring the iPhone in iTunes help in solving these problems?

Restoring your phone won't fix these issues. Once you turn on Automatic Downloads you associate your phone with a specific Apple ID, which can only be changed every 90 days, as explained here: http://support.apple.com/kb/HT4627. However, just because you changed you email address doesn't mean you can't keep using your former Apple ID. As for you email question, the autocomplete email suggestions you get when addressing email cannot be removed without restoring your phone as new.

Iframes and automatic resizing to fit content displayed.

Is it possible to display an iframe on your page with content inside that resizes and then have the iframe resize with it so you dont have to use scroll bars or make the page size really big.?

If the iframe page is hosted on your domain, yes, there is a jQuery plugin for this.

Neither Automatically Resize nor Zoom to Fit working

Hello out there in Appleland,
Neither Automatically Resize nor Zoom to Fit is working in Preview 5.0.3 under Snow Leopard. Zoom to Fit acts just like Actual Size or <Command> 0 and Automatically resize doesn't work at all. This must be and bug, so please explain how this can be permanently fixed, even at the command line level.

I've found out a little more about Preview and its bug through a process of elimination.
After examining Automatically Resize for Preview 3.0.9 on my old PowerBook G4 with OS 10.4.11, Preview 4.1 on my iMac with OS 10.5.8, and now Preview 5.0.3 on my MacBook Pro with OS 10.6.8, I discovered they all work the same way. When Automatically Resize is checked the image is only resized when the window is reduced but never when the window is enlarged to a size greater than the image's Actual Size, which is a worthless feature for smaller images. I don't think this is the way it is supposed to work, but I may be wrong.
Where 5.0.3 differs from the other versions of Preview is in Zoom to Fit. Under the View Menu, Zoom to Fit is grayed out unless the image stretches beyond the borders of the window (i.e. Automatically Resize toggled off). In this case, the image will be reduced to the size of the window when Zoom to Fit is selected. On the other hand, if the image is smaller than the size of the window, Zoom to Fit is not grayed out but neither does it enlarge the image to the size of the window when selected. In other words, Zoom to Fit in 5.0.3 is only good for reducing an image to fill a smaller window but never for enlarging an image to fill a bigger window if that window is larger than the Actual Size of the image.
Perhaps the problem is with Preview 5.0.3 failing to access com.apple.Preview.ImageSizingPresets.plist since removing all the Preview plists and launching the application anew does not recreate this particular plist. Also, the modified date on the original com.apple.Preview.ImageSizingPresets.plist never seems to change.
This is a damned annoying bug and should have been fixed when Snow Leopard was the standard. In my opinion, the fact that this wasn't caught reveals Apple's slipping standards and a concentration on their growing market in mobile devices. I feel I have a right to say this since I've been a loyal Mac user since the early 1980s.
For those who suggest I move to Lion or beyond, you can keep the economy going with your new software purchases. For now, I'm going to continue using Rosetta and my old, third-party applications in Snow Leopard.

Can an InDesign swf document automatically resize?

Hello,
Using InDesign CS4, I've created an interactive document and exported into a swf format.
The document size is 1024 x 768 px, but will not resize without cropping parts of the document. This means that the majority of users won't be able to use the document unless they have the same desktop size or larger than 1024 x 768.
I've tried changing the export options in InDesign to get the document to resize, and I've also tried exporting and changing settings in Flash which works but removes all of the interactivity.
From what I've read I don't think it is possible to do this from the Adobe suite.
Does anyone know if there any way this document can be displayed in a browser and automatically resize according to the users desktop resolution? This could be either via some functionality I haven't tried within the Adobe software or by using some software or code to imbed with the document on the webpage.
I can upload the document if needed.

You can set the embedded swf to scale with the browser window (not fullscreen mode) via the HTML holder generated by ID. Set width and height to "100%" and scale to "showall"
Keep in mind that the browser window could be any size, so text might be be illegible in a small browser window or awkwardly oversized in a large window.

Automatic and Immediate TO after delivery is created

Check on the following to configure automatic generation of TO wrt a outbound delivery.
To create transfer orders directly or automatically for outbound deliveries, you trigger the
message type WMTA using the SD message control. Only WM-relevant delivery items are processed. Different forms of processing result, depending on the processing time of the message type WMTA:
Processing time 1, 2 and 3 (processing later)
In this case, the message is processed either via a program in the background
(processing times 1 and 2) or manually via the transaction Messages for delivery
(processing time 3).
If the automatic TO creation indicator is set for the reference documents and a report is
carried out regularly, this is known as automatic transfer order creation.
_ Processing time 4 (processing immediately)
Here message processing is initiated immediately after the delivery has been created.
Therefore, we call this immediate transfer order creation.
If you want the system to generate transfer orders in the background without any additional
activity necessary by the user, we recommend that you use processing times 1 or 2. You can
then plan to periodically execute the report RSNAST00 (Selection Program for Issuing Output)
with a corresponding repetition time for the message type WMTA.
During creation of transfer orders we recommend that you process later, in order to
improve performance for processing time 4. If you choose an appropriately small
repetition time period when you set up the system to use report RSNAST00, the time
required to create transfer orders is nearly the same as when using time period "4"
for immediate transfer order generation.
For further information on how you set up message determination for deliveries see the
implementation guide (IMG) for Shipping under

I've created a customized menu and at the instance of me selecting a menu, a VI should load itself dynamically. I am using call by reference. Sometimes it works and sometimes it won't. In short, what I want to achieve is load VIs dynamically and close them dynamically once they finish executing. Thanks !

I couldn't open Firefox using the terminal, so I went to the folder and opened it from there. The Firefox icon no longer appears, and I can't figure out how to change the shortcut in my menu lol But it's definitely the Japanese version, and all of my bookmarks, plugins and preferences were saved, so everything else will come eventually ^.^

I use the Tools > Annotate > Add Text feature, and when I click away after adding text, it automatically changes the text box size such that the last letter -- or last word -- gets bumped off into an invisible line below it, forcing me to manually adjust every single text box. It is highly annoying when trying to complete PDF forms (e.g. job applications).
It appears to be a glitch, quite honestly, an error resulting from Apple's product design. Has it been fixed in the new operating system (for which they want $30)?

Now I open the apex link from my forms application, and it Works fine. For example

The authorization function takes the P1_SID value and checks in database,finds the entry so returns TRUE to display the page 1 which i call Menu page.
If I click logout, it works and takes me to the Mycompany home page.
My question:
If save that link and try to access it again AFTER LOGOUT, it still displays the page. Although the session is logged out, how come it still allows to access the page? The authorization function also doesn't fire which would have prevented it atleast. How APEX knows it still a valid session even after logout happens?
I can see that Since there is DAD authentication, the login happens automatically........ but I cannot change that method. What other option do i have?

Basically we are using a private DBMS_PIPE to pass a randomly generated string and read that pipe from Apex using get_session_info. Nothing to do with Apex Session. We just want to make sure the user opened the Apex link from the application.

2.) I guess you are right. But doesn't Apex use the Userid and password hardcoded in the DAD? because it displays the username in DAD on the page footer. But It will authenticate everytime. So I want to put another layer so that my pipe verification code executes everytime which can decide whether to show the page or redirect to a error page.
If i put in a On-Load Before Header Process on Page 1 with the pl/sql code, is there a way there to redirect to different page? I couldn't think of a way to do it. Then i can remove the code from authorization scheme and add to the On-Load process?

Cell auto-resize after vertical merge of two cells.

Ladies and Gents,
That is my question.
I am creating a sheet for grants and as part of my "Degree Program Profile" template project.
My intent is to have six column headings spread between columns "A" through "J".
"Date Earned" occupies cells A2/A3 "vertically merged with text centered vertically".
"X No. of Times" occupies cells B2/B3 "......................".
"Target Major/Target Minor" occupies cells C2/C3 and D2/D3 "...............".
"Awarding Entity" occupies cells E2/E3 F2/F3 G2/G3 "..................".
"Reason for Award" occupies cells H2/H3 I1/I2 ".................".
"Amount" is supposed to occupy cells J2/J3 "........................". <- this is the trouble area.
When I merge cells J1 and J2 on my spreadsheet, numbers automatically resizes the entire row to a smaller "single row" of cells.
How do prevent this from happening?

The behavior is much more spectacular that what you wrote and it's reproducible.
You merged A2 & A3, B2 & B3, C2 & D2 & C3 & D3,
E2 & F2 & G2 & E3 & F3 & G3 , H2 & I 2 & H3 & I3
Merging H2 & H3 behave as a special un-merge action.
We get : C2 & D2, E2 & F2 & G2, H2 & I 2
but the cells of row 3 are no longer merged to cells of row 2 and no longer merged in the row.
In other words, every cells of row 3 retrieve their independence.
This behavior is always striking if we apply the merge feature to every cells in a row.
If I add a column K to your table, the problem doesn't surface.
I made an other attempt.
Before merging the described groups of cells, I inserted - character in every cells of row 3.
I inserted the string "row 4" in the cell A4.
Then I merged the described way.
Before merging J2 & J3, I has two tabs numbers 2 & 3 for this couple of rows.
When I merged J2 & J3, what was a couple of rows loose it's status and became a single row 2
and the string "row 4" is in row 3 !
If rows 2 & 3 were defined as header rows, after the merge tasks, the Table is described as having only two header rows.
I guess that you already understood that I will file a report upon what resemble to a bug.

Redirect After Logout

Hi,
I have created several example public pages each containing the Portal 9.0.2 out-of-the-box Login portlet.
Depending on which page I use to login from, when I logout, I would like to automatically return to the same login page.
In Portal Rel 1, this was simply a case of setting the p_done_url value to that of the required login page.
However, in Rel 2, logout first takes you to the default logout page (the one confirming logout from various partner applications), where you are then required to manually click RETURN, at which point, the correct login page is displayed.
I have read various threads both from this forum and metalink, and each suggests looking in the SSO Admin Guide. However, this explains how to replace the Logout page, not how to redirect after logout. If I use the method described in the SSO Admin Guide, I can only have one logout page. This would mean that I would not be able to replicate the Rel 1 functionality, where I could go to a different login page each time after logout.
Does anyone out there know how to replicate this Rel 1 functionality?
