Filling in a shape with a dot pattern

Hi there,
I have this shape of a light which I am trying to fill with a dot pattern but when applied it cuts some of the dots off.
How can I avoid this?
Ideally it would also follow the 3 dimensional shape of the object, like the first picture.
This is correct style of pattern I'm trying to achieve but wrong shape (I did not create this one) :
This is the right shape but wrong pattern style:
Thanks for your help!
Charles

Thanks, I've cleaned up the shape manually as the the tutorial suggested but it still doesn't quiet look right.
Is there a way I can perhaps manipulate the pattern in order to follow to 3D shape whilst keeping the dots round?

  • Cannot fill a rectangular shape with Color

    HI,
I cannot fill a rectangular shape with color. I know it was working at some point. I checked the ID help, and did a search here with no results.
I have the tool bar set correctly I think (see below). The object isn't behind other objects either, - that I can see. I do see it when I use the scroll bar so it's there somewhere. (see Pink box below).
    Any ideas profound or otherwise?
    Thenk Yew.

You haven't got 100% transparency applied to it?  Then it might appear while scrolling because of a slightly delayed display.  That's all I can think of at the moment...
The other thing to try if you suspect an individual document is playing up is to export it to inx or idml and open that.  Then another thing is to try replacing your preferences.

  • Fill shape with a pattern

    Hi,
I am drawing some shapes using java.awt.Shape, java.awt.geom.Area and java.awt.geom.GeneralPath and would like to know whether it's possible to fill these closed shapes with a color - or even better - with a pattern.
    Thanks!

    er, yes, why not?

  • How to fill shape with pattern... and cut outline?

I have an old plotter that works great for making drawings. I can fill a shape with a pattern, convert the pattern to outlines (or strokes) BUT my problem is that the outline of the original shape remains, and this will be plotted. I do not want an outline of the original shape, I want the pattern to create the shape. Any ideas? Also, shape stroke remains part of the art (even if stroke = none before object/expand/ungroup/divide)

    aha!
    made scribble
    expanded scribble
    put shape in front
select all, ctrl+7 (masked scribble to shape)
    pathfinder/crop
    solved. thanks! sishamDSS!

  • Filling in a shape made with lines

I am really new to illustrator and I need to know the answer to this question fast. If I made a weird shape with 5 different lines how would I fill it in? Nothing really happens when I select the lines and then select a color.
Thank you for answering my question

    What Wade said… or:
Select the lines you've created and choose convert to "Live Paint" (Object>Live Paint>Make). This nifty feature lets you fill non-joined paths. It also greatly simplifies the process of working with multiple shapes that share edges. Better yet, you can edit the indivual lines to update the shapes, automatically. That's why they call it "Live Paint". I use this feature extensively, along with the pencil or pen tool, to create complex, interlocking shapes, that would take MUCH more time, closing each shape individually. Read about it in the online help.

  • How do I "lock" a pattern fill within a shape?

I want to stop my pattern fill from shifting within its shape.  It (the pattern fill) seems to move when I send my file to another user to work on. I have tried "expand" but that, at times, changes the pattern fill entirely (lines get skinnier or fatter)! I am using CS2. Thanks.

It shouldn't move when someone else just opens the file. But when the object is copied to a different file, the pattern will most probably move. You can prevent it from moving in the same file when you check the option "Transform pattern" in the preferences.
Could you show an example of what's happening when you expand the pattern?

  • How to draw a shape with line tool then fill with colour

How can i draw a shape with the line tool and then fill it with colour

Click and drag from one anchor point to the next, making sure that each new line segment begins where the last one ended. The Line Tool will snap onto the anchors.
Once you're done creating what looks like a closed path, the lines are still separate objects. To combine them into one path, select them all and press Ctrl/Cmd+J (for Join) or via the menu select Object > Path > Join.
The Pen Tool can be used in a similar manner, but each segment will be a continuation rather than a separate object. The last (closing) click will be indicated by a tiny circle on the mouse pointer.
If you make an open path, Ai will still "fill" it with a fill color by assuming a straight path between the last open anchor points. Individual straight paths, however, such as those drawn by the line tool, have no "inside", so they won't show the fill color even if you have assigned one.

  • Fill shape with pen tool

    Hi there,
this might be a very simple question, but couldn't figure it out ..
I made a Title in Premiere and I want to draw a shape with the pen tool.
However this only results into a shape with line instead of it being filled.
So my question: how to draw a filled shape in Premiere Pro with the pen tool?
    Thanks in advance

Set Graphic Type to Filled Bezier, that will fill the shape.

  • Computer Freezes with dotted pattern and flashing

I came back to my computer after 30 minutes away from it, and it had frozen with no ability to change applications, websites, screens, windows etc. The screen was locked and flashing bright colors, with an odd dot pattern over the screen. I restarted by manually holding the start button on the computer tower.
The seemingly identical thing also happened yesterday, which I also restarted manually. Any ideas on the problem here or potential fixes?

I'm on a MacPro desktop from early 2008.  This is what I found on my screen.  This is taken from an iPhone (the dots may be hard to see but they show up on the right side of the image:
    I'm running 10.7.5
    Procssor - 2.8 GHz Quad-Core Intel Xeon
    Memory 4 GB 800 MHz DDR2 FB-DIMM
Graphic NVIDIA GeForce 8800 GT 512 MB
    Display 23" DVI
My memory is something I have been working on...  It is nearly full only 46.21 GB free out of 999.35 GB.
    Need any other info?

  • Making a Circle Shape with Dots

How do I make a circle out of dots in Illustrator?

Step 1: Create a single dot.
Step 2: With your dot still selected, select the Rotate Tool (R).
Step 3: Left click once where you want the center of your circle to be in relation to your dot.
Step 4: While holding Option/Alt the whole time, click and drag your dot to the left or right, it will rotate around the point you just designated with the Rotate Tool. Release it when you're comfortable with the position of your second dot.
Step 5: Press Cmd/Ctrl + D repeatedly, this will mimic your last action over and over, creating more dots around the point you designated in a perfect circle.

  • Creating a symbol from shape with gaussian blur = problem

I am trying to create artwork to map to a globe using the 3D revolve effect...the problem is the shape/layer I'm using to create the "glow" effect (compound path filled with white and a gaussian blur applied):
When I create a symbol out of this, here is the problem (note the "excess" areas on the top and right):
...resulting in this messed up globe...
Doing an outer glow effect instead of gaussian blur results in the same thing (its definitely the blur causing this, deleting the shape fixes the problem).  Expanding the shape with the blur results in an image the same size as the bounding box in image 2 above. Any ideas how to address this?
    thx

Yep, that did it! (something strange going on now with the longitude/latitude lines going thru India, but I'll work on that later)...Thank you!

  • Error in CodeFirst Seed with migrations : Modifying a column with the 'Identity' pattern is not supported. Column: 'CreatedAt'. Table: 'CodeFirstDatabaseSchema.Category'.

    Hi,
I have activated migrations on my Azure Mobile Services project. I filled the new seed function Inside the Configuration.cs class of the migrations. If the tables are empty, the seed function is going without any problems. When my AddorUpdate tries to update
the first object I get the error in the inner exception : "Modifying a column with the 'Identity' pattern is not supported. Column: 'CreatedAt'. Table: 'CodeFirstDatabaseSchema.Category'."
Part of my code is as follows:
    context.categories.AddOrUpdate(
    new Category { Id="1", Code="GEN", Text="General"},
    new Category { Id="2", Code="POL", Text="Politics"},
    new Category { Id="3", Code="FAS", Text="Fashion"},
    new Category { Id="4", Code="PEO", Text="People"},
    new Category { Id="5", Code="TEC", Text="Technology"},
    new Category { Id="6", Code="SPO", Text="Sport"},
    new Category { Id="7", Code="LIV", Text="Living"}
    Any help is welcomed. Thanks.

This occurred to me because I changed my POCO models to inherit from EntityData after I had already created my database without the extra Azure Mobile Service properties (UpdatedAt, CreatedAt, Deleted). The only way I fixed it was to drop the database and
start over with my classes inheriting from EntityData from the beginning. If you can't do that then I would create a new table with EntityData models and see how that database is created and manually update your tables to match those. Here's an image of one
of my tables from the management console on Azure. You can see that CreatedAt is an index.

  • Changes color of vector dot pattern

Newb using one of the vector dot patterns available in Illustrator. I am having trouble with changing the colors of the dots.  Once I expand or break the link, all colors I try to make it, turn grey.
    Thanks in advance..

Thanks for the reply Monika!  I tried your suggestion with a pattern swatch and it worked with ease.  However the dot "pattern" I am using is technically a symbol and isn't responding the same way the pattern swatch did.  Ideas?
    Thanks again

  • Unwanted dot pattern in Photoshop CS4

Recently, a dot pattern of about 35 dots evenly spaced on a straight line repeated on maybe 6 lines, all the same color, have begun to appear on some images I am developing. Overall, the pattern is about 1.5 by 2.5 inches. I am using a new MacPro with a 26" NEC MultiSync monitor, running MacOS 10.5.6 with 8GB of RAM and a large dedicated scratch disk. These are very large images, about 2.2 GB in size. Has anyone experienced something like this?

Sorry, I had misplaced this email as my MacPro was at Apple being diagnosed for this problem when you responded to me. Apple had it for a week and they said that the only time this problem occurred was in Pshop.
The images are a composite of photos that I had taken with an XTi and then later masked. The working image could be 55 or so layers which are composed at 36 by 46 by 180; the file could be 2.2 GB. Sometime in the evolving process, the dots suddenly appear. This has happened to me about 6 times. Once when I had first noticed them, they were only visible at 33 1/3 and 50 percent magnifications so I duplicated the image at another magnification and they were no longer visible at any zoom level. All the other times, they became a part of the image. My guess is that was brought about by saving the file. I wish Adobe would be helpful but they are not. They have an incredibly bad tech support. My last call prompted a reply to to download a patch even though I had told him I was running 11.0.1. Below is a screen grab of the dots at about 1.5 by 2.75 inches. They could be other colors. I've seen green and red but always they are one color.
    I would appreciate help.

  • Creating shapes with blend modes in actionscript 3

Ok I'm having a lot of trouble with ActionScript 3. I'm supposed to make five buttons that when clicked show a different blend mode using 2 or more shapes. Each of these blend modes also has to have a text box explaining what the blend mode does.  The assignment requires only one layer which is the actions layer. Everything has to be made using script only, which is why I'm having so many problems.
Can someone please help me with this and simplify it has much as possible. I need to have some sort of answer sometime tomorrow. I thank anyone who helps.
