Filter using inputSize crashes Pixel Bender 2.1.432154

Hi there, I've been having trouble with this filter:
<languageVersion : 1.0;>
kernel NewFilter
<   namespace : "Your Namespace";
    vendor : "Your Vendor";
    version : 1;
    description : "your description";
>
    input image4 src;
    output pixel4 dst;
    parameter float2 srcSize
    <
        parameterType: "inputSize";
        inputSizeName: "src";
    >;
    void
    evaluatePixel()
        dst = sampleNearest(src,outCoord()/srcSize*10.0);
Every time I run it, it says "Adobe Image Foundation has stopped working" and the entire program crashes. It works if I use a regular float2 parameter for srcSize.

Good catch. There's definitely a bug in the toolkit here. It appears to be a bad interaction between the parameterType and inputSizeName parameter metadata. I don't believe you need the inputSizeName parameter metadata to accomplish what you want, since your kernel only has a single input image. Try removing the inputSizeName key-value pair and use only the parameterType key-value pair. I'll log a bug about the crash. Hopefully, we can get it fixed for the next toolkit release.

    Hello.
    Is there a way to build a Plug In for Photoshop using the Flash (GUI) + Action Script (Auxiliary Functions) + Photoshop Script (Photoshop Built In Capabilities) + Pixel Bender?
    Are there tutorials I can start from?
    Thanks.

    We have combined the C/C++ SDK, the Companion SDK and the Panel Guide into one SDK. You want the Panel Guide.

  • Photoshop CS4, Pixel Bender, Mavericks OS ERRORS

    I recently upgraded to Mavericks and am using Photoshop CS4. When I attempt to use Pixel Bender Filters, I get the following error messages for all of the plugins:
    ERROR: (line0): require metadata “namespace” of wrong type.
    Expected string
    ERROR: (line0) required metadata “vendor” of wrong type. Expected string
    ERROR: (line 0) required metadata “version” of wrong type. Expected int
    I have no clue what is going on. PSD files that have Pixel Bender filters applied on Smart Objects will open but simply attempting to turn off one of the filters causes Photoshop to crash.
    HELP!

    Hi there,
    I have made some serious progress with this.  I too was having difficulty with Pixel Bender in Mavericks and have tried with CS4,5,6 and CC.  This morning I had a major breakthrough on CS5.  I have successfully loaded and run the Pixel Bender plugins.  I am however still crashing when attempting to run the Fractal Explorer plugins.   Here is what you may need to do to correct the error messages and any issues loading with the Adobe Extension Manager.
    1. Download this plugin Pixel Bender Accelerator for Photoshop and follow their direction to place the plugin - http://aescripts.com/pixel-bender-accelerator-for-photoshop/#upgrade-notice
    2. Download and run the CS5 Extension Manager update  (I used the 5.0.3 version) - Adobe Extension Manager Updates Downloads
    3. Install the Pixel Bender Plugin through the updated Extension Manager and "replace all" if necessary.
    I think that covers any steps I made to correct this.  All the filters in the Pixel Bender gallery work except for the Fractal Explorer plugins at this point, and I believe thats a RAM issue I am having.  Please let me know if this helps and if you discover anything along the way.
    30 min later...
    I just solved the last issue and ran the fractal explorer filters successfully.  Once you have the Pixel Bender library accessible in Photoshop, run the Pixel bender accelerator with your image open and saved as a smart object.  Once you have applied the accelerator all filter can be used in the pixel bender gallery. No crashing or error messages!!

    Hi, I had to reinstall my CS4 after a system disk crash, and now I cannot find free Oil Paint filter for Pixel Bender plugin. It is not included in a new version of the plugin available for download. Where can I download the old version or only the Oil Paint filter file to restore my working software configuration? PB requires a reasonably juicy graphics hardware and well, your specs clearly indicate that this is not the case. It will probably never work, but as a minor update your graphics driver...

  • Pixel Bender - Oil Paint Module Crashes Photoshop?? Any ideas?

    I have downloaded and intstalled pixel bender for PSCS5. It works well except for the oil paint module.
    Can't move sliders. Every time I use it, Photoshop crashes!!! Any ideas???
    Thanks, Joe

    Samantha,
    I have not had the problem with any other filter. Sorry I do not have a
    crash log.
    The problem occurred several times, but recently I have not been able to
    recreate it - in other words,
    it now seems to be working. I'll let you know if anything changes.
    For your information I am using 32 bit Photoshop CS5 on a Windows XP
    Platform.

    Hi,  Joe.
    First, thanks for downloading the plug-in. I believe you may  have hit a
    bug we are planning to address shortly in an update. I'd like to  confirm my
    suspicion, though, and ask if you have been able to re-create the  crash
    using any other filters. One of the issues were addressing in our next  release
    is actually a UI problem and not specific to the Oil filter. If you  have a
    crash log, I'd be interested in checking the stack,  too.
    Let me know either way; if it's not the issue I'm thinking  of, I'd like to
    investigate your problem.

  • Problem Opening Pixel Bender Filter

    I just recently downloaded this Pixel Bender Filter for Photoshop CS4 (Win 32-bit). I downloaded it and finished installing with the adobe extension manager. However when I tried to use the pixel bender filter, photoshop becomes non responding and says: Adobe Photoshop CS4 has encountered a problem and needs to close. We are sorry for the inconvenience. Does anyone know why this is happening? Looks like a sick filter and I wanna use it!
    Thanks

    I believe your card is a shader model 2 card, we require a minimum of shader model 3, so the Pixel Bender plugin should warn you up front that your graphics hardware is not supported. I'm not sure why the plugin is not doing so but I do not expect Pixel Bender to work on your hardware. Sorry.

  • How to use Pixel Bender Effects in After Effects

    Hello,
    if I create a filter in Pixel Bender I can save it as
    .pbk-file. But After Effects uses .aex-files for PlugIns. How can I
    load .pbk in After Effects or change file-format to .aex or what
    can I do?
    Thanks for each help!

    Oh, now I copied the .pnb-file in the PlugIn-Folder.
    Now I saw the new category Pixel Bender in the Effects menu.
    Thank You!

  • Where is pixel bender directory used by Photoshop CS5.1 (from Creative Suite 5.5 Web Premium)?

    CS5.1 does not appear to use the Pixel Bender Files directory in the Adobe Directory.  If I add a new pixel bender filter (.pbx) to the other filters in that directory, it does not show up in the Pixel Bender Filters Gallery from within Photoshop.  Actually, the listing of the filters from within Photoshop Pixel Bender Filter Gallery and the filters in the /Adobe/Photoshop CS5.1 (64bit)/Pixel Bender Files are different.  Any explanation?

  • Pixel Bender 32bit for CS5 crashes CS5 when I select the plug-in

    I am running Windows Vista Premium Home Edition SP2 on a Gateway Laptop.  I have 2gb of RAM and I have checked and my Video Driver is up to date.  I have un-installed all my other filters such as Topez and now running a clean version of CS5.  I also run CS4 on the same laptop as I am working on converting as I purchase upgrades to my other filters.  Pixel Bender runs file under CS4 but when I install it Adobe Extension Manager CS5 and then start CS5, load an image and then select Pixel Bender, it crashes CS5.
    I have deleted the download and down loaded it again.  I have looked through the forum and have not located a thread related to this problem.  Does anyone have any suggestions?
    Thank you.
    Michael

    What graphics card are you using? What are the driver date and version as displayed via Vista's Display preferences?

    Could anyone pinpoint what's the problem?
    Never crashed on the IDE.

    Glad to hear you found the ReadMe.
    The previous limitation was not arbitrary as the decision was made based on experiments across various GPUs and operating systems. We had a bit more time this go-around to improve how we enforce the limit and so we did. There is still a 128MB limit on the image size. We attempted to remove this limit entirely, but just found too many problems with the graphics drivers across the various card/os combinations we support. The decision was a tradeoff between minimizing the posts we get complaining about the supported image size and minimizing the tech support calls we get complaining the plugin is crashing Photoshop (usually the result of a crash in the driver) or is painting garbage to the screen. The limit isn't perfect but it is an improvement over the previous limit. We will continue to work to expand this limit and hopefully we'll be able to remove it entirely at some point in the future. In the meantime, the two limits you need to consider are the 128MB limit on image size and the texture size limit of your graphics card. The plugin limits you to the texture size of your graphics card if that texture size limit is less than 128MB, otherwise the plugin limits you to 128MB. You can find out the texture size limit, as I pointed out in another thread, by using a tool such as "OpenGL Extensions Viewer."

    Thanks again for all your feedback; it's much appreciated. Happy filtering.

  • I can't find pixel bender under my filter list..

    I installed pixel bender by right clicking the extension manager and running as administrator.  Then I selected the file (pixel bender) to install.  Everything seemed to work fine, but when I'm done, Pixelbender is nowhere to be found under the filter menu.  I checked the 32 bit and 64 bit CS5, but it's not there.  Any ideas?
    Thanks,
    Tim

    Yes, I did use Extension Manger CS5.  I right clicked extension manager and ran as administrator.  It show the file (pixel bender) and install it.  I have tried re-installing and it tells me there is already a version installed.  I've overwritten that version with no luck.  I've re-downloaded pixel bender and re-installed, with no luck.  If I go to Program Files>adobe/adobe photoshop CS5 (64bit)>Plug-Ins>Filters, there is a Pixel Bender.8bf file.  However, It is not in my filters list on CS5. Also, there is a Pixel Bender file in Program Files>Adobe>Adobe Photoshop CS5.   It is Called Pixel Bender Files.
    Please help..
    Thanks,
    Tim

  • Installed pixel bender but it doesn't show up under filter

    I am running CS5 Standard 64 bit Windows 7 Professional and downloaded and ran "pixelbenderplugin_p2_64bit_090910.mxp" that appeared to end successfully however; pixel bender doesn't show in the filters drop down list.  I could not see how I directed the plugin in CS5 edit preferences.  Any suggestions on how to proceed?
    Thanks............Ralph

    Duuuh.  I finally figured it out.  I had to right click on the Cs5 Extension Manager and not the executable file which was what I was doing.  Right clicked the Extension Manager and selected run in administrator mode and it ran successfully.  Started CS5 and the pixel bender filter was there.
    Thanks you all so much and I am sorry to have caused you to waste so much time.  If you don't mind and know the answer, why when I get this same message when installing other plugins just responding continue allows it to work fine.
    Again thank you for fixing my problem..........Ralph
