Filter using nested keyword under certain parent

I'm new to LR. Using LR5.
How do you filter photos by using a keyword that is under a certain parent?
An example of some keyword structure is:
Birthday > Jenny (Photos from Jenny's Birthday)
People > Jenny (Photos that have Jenny in them)
I want to show only photos that have Jenny in them. But I cant search "People > Jenny" as it doesn't produce any hits.
If I search just "Jenny" it brings up Birthday photos without Jenny as well other photos with Jenny.
If I search "People, Jenny", it will bring up photos of Jenny's Birthday with people, not necessarily Jenny.
It seems like such a simple task yet I'm not having any luck!
Thanks!

Go to Keyword List Panel
Point at the keyword Jenny (under People) and then click on the arrow that appears to the far right of the keyword
This is a way to search for photos that have any specific keyword

  • Excluding nested keywords

Ok, I have a keyword hierarchy. Working in a busy fieldseason I import my picture and quickly assign them keywords as good as I can. For example wild dogs from the Luambi pack in Liuwa Plain National Park get the keyword 'Luambi', The hierarchy is Wild Dog > Liuwa > Luambi.
Within the Luambi pack there are several individuals. Now the field season has ended I want to identify the individual animals in the pictures.
Thus, they already have the keyword 'Luambi' and from those I'd like to assign them to individuals, for example 'Wild dog 01' within the Luambi pack. But there are already many pictures from previous years, so just selecting 'Luambi' doesn't work as it includes all already keyworded animals in the Luambi pack.
I could create a smart collection with: contains all - 'Luambi', and a 'doesn't contain' for each animal in the pack but some groups are pretty large (>50 individuals, and it can happen there are multiple individuals in one pictures of which some are identified and others not), so this takes a lot of time.
When using filters, and chosing 'flat' as view  it doesn't seem to work either, there are several issue.
See attached picture. In the right hand pane you can see that there are 44 pictures with the keyword 'wilddog', I want to see those pictures, and only those pictures, there are >150 nested keywords under it. In the left hand pane you can see that the filter only tells me there are 41 pictures with the keyword 'wilddog'???
If I click on 'wilddog' in the filter nothing happens, I don't get to see a selection of those 41 pictures.
Most keywords are working as filters in the filter pane, but some aren't.
I've done some searches on how to select parent keywords without including nested keywords and the only solution I saw was filtering, which in my case doesn't seem to work.
    I'm working with Lightroom 5.3

Oh, I forgot about that bug -- yes indeed, both the Keyword column in the Library Filter bar and the Keyword List can only handle about 1600 keywords showing before they start acting erratically (on Windows).  This bug has been present since at least LR 3, and it's never been high enough priority for Adobe to fix.   Please add your opinion and vote to the official bug report:
    http://feedback.photoshop.com/photoshop_family/topics/i_cannot_access_the_whole_keyword_li st_to_edit
For the Keyword List pane, there are easy workarounds -- use keyword filtering of the list, or introduce a keyword hierarchy and keep most of the hierarchy collapsed.  Here's a workaround for the Library Filter bar bug:
    1. In the Keyword column, change the view from Hiearchical to Flat:
    2. In the Keyword List pane, in the "Filter Keywords" box, enter the desired keyword, e.g. "Wilddog" (I entered "p1638" in my test catalog):
    3. Hover the mouse to the right of the keyword (just past the image count) and click on the right arrow that appears:
(In your case, "Wilddog", not "p1638".)
At least in my test catalog with 2000 keywords, this leaves the Library Filter bar's Keyword column with that keyword selected, in Flat view.
Another workaround is to use my Any Filter plugin, using the criterion:
    Explicit Keyword = Wilddog

Using Windows 7 and LR 5,  when I look at the Keyword List a certain keyword has 7 pictures but when I check the Library Filter with that keyword 350 pictures are shown which includes the 7 pictures that have the keyword.  Why does the Library Filter showing pictures that do not match the query

    Dan,
Here's what's going on in the catalog you sent me, "Joel & Caitlin's Wedding".  There is the keyword "gwenn", which is explicitly assigned to 7 pics. But keyword "schwartz" has a number of synonyms, including "gwenn", and it is assigned to 25 pics.  There is no overlap between the two sets of pics.
I discovered these two occurrences by doing Metadata > Export Keywords, opening the exported file in an editor, and then searching for "gwenn".  I found two occurrences of "gwenn":
    gwenn
    schwartz
        {gwenn}
From this, you can see that the keyword "schwartz" has 9 synonyms, of which "gwenn" is one.
The filter criterion "Keywords Contain gwenn" will match the 7 pics that are explicitly assigned the keyword "gwenn", and it will also match the 25 pics assigned the keyword "schwartz", because that keyword has a synonym "gwenn".
This illustrates the behavior I mentioned above: The criterion "Keywords contains x" will match against any of a pic's assigned keywords, any of those keywords' ancestor keywords, and any of the synonyms of the assigned keywords and their ancestors.
So LR is operating correctly here, if not in a way that's easy to understand.
It appears that you are using the synonyms of "schwartz" to represent individual members of the Schwartz family.  A better way of representing family relationships is to have a parent keyword "Schwartz", with subkeywords for each family member, e.g. "Gwenn Schwartz", "Joe Schwartz", "Jane Schwartz", etc.  Repeating the family name in the subkeywords has a couple of advantages. LR usually only displays the "leaf" name of a keyword, so instead of showing you just "Joe", it will show you "Joe Schwartz", helpful when there are a number of different people whose first name is "Joe".  Also, if you ever export your pics to other software, it may not understand the LR hierarchy and won't show the parent keywords, so again it's more informative to see a keyword named "Joe Schwartz" rather than "Joe".

  • How do I filter photos using the keyword hierarchy?

Since Aperture 3.1 came out, I've been taking another look at it and considering switching back from Lightroom. One baby step was to set up a proper keyword hierarchy with Aperture. Trying to use that for sorting photos, I started feeling incredibly frustrated and felt like I must be missing something screamingly obvious.
Here's my issue. Using the keyword HUD, I can set up a nested, hierarchical keyword list. The HUD helpfully displays a running tally of all photos that keyword is applied to. "Great!" I thought, I've got 46 photos of John Smith, let's take a look at them. So I click on the number. Apparently, while Aperture is happy to show you the number of photos with the keyword, it's not willing to take you to those photos (i.e., create a library filter and show the results) via the Keyword HUD.
Bringing up the filter HUD seems unhelpful for the opposite reason. While you can search via the keywords there, it doesn't show the keyword hierarchy! Am I missing something? Say I've got keywords for two people, Adam and Zoe, filed under People/Friends/. Using the keyword box in the filter HUD will list one at the beginning and the other at the end of my entire list of keywords. Worse, the filter HUD only seems helpful for keywords if you know which ones you're looking for, which defeats the point of using a hierarchy. If, say, I know there's 3 or 4 people I'm looking for under a particular category, but I can't remember their name of the top of my head, how do I go about finding them using the filter HUD? All I have is the long, uncategorized master list of keywords.
Again, I feel I must be missing something obvious. Thanks for your help.
    Cheers.

I agree, clicking on a keyword in the HUD that has a number after it to get those photos seems like a no brainer. Even though I know it doesn't do that I still find myself clicking on it before I catch myself. Need to send feedback to Apple on this, clicking on a keyword should create a filter to and display those images.
In your example the images of Adam and Zoe should be tagged with the keywords that apply to them. That is they would have the keywords people, friends, male or female, Adam or Zoe, and whatever other keywords you use to describe these images. Then you check as many keywords in the filter that apply and you can remember.
While the keyword HUD shows the keywords in a hierarchy, keywords applied to an image are one dimensional, linear. Its just a string of words without structure. The hierarchy is just there to make it easier to conceptualize the structure.

How do you use Non-destructive filter with Nested XML data?
I am using the non-destructive filter sample with my own xml which is setup to search for the <smc></smcs> in my xml below. But when i test it it only searches the last row of the "smc". How can i make it work so it can search for repeating nodes? or does it have something to with how my xml is setup?

    thank you!

I apologize, im using Spry XML Data Set. i guess the best way to describe what im trying to do is, i want to use the Non-desctructive filter sample with the Spry Nested XML Data sample. So with my sample xml on my first post and with the same code non-destructive filter is using, im having trouble trying to search repeating nodes, for some reason it only searches the last node of the repeating nodes. Does that make sense? let me know.

  • Copy level zero value member to other level zero members under a parent

    Hi,
I am entering data against a dummy costcentre. I will need allocate the value to other costcentres which sit under a parent. I tried @relative("parent member",0) = '"dummy costcentre". I have this within a fix statement.
I have tried datacopy but it doesn't like the @relative. I looked at set and calc but no solution jumps out. I am sure this is possible. I would appreciate any suggestions.
I could hard code each CC i.e. dummy = CC but this would require a script update everytime a new CC was added or one removed.
    Thanks,

    Hi,
it would help to see your FIX statement, but I would calc it in the following way (using another dimension, e.g. the scenario):
    FIX (@relative("parent menber",0))
    "scenario1"
    "scenario1"="scenario1"->"dummy costcentre"
    ENDFIX

  • Advantages of using nested iViews

    Hi All,
Could anybody point out what are the major advantages of using nested iViews? Under what circumstances is the usage of nested iViews desired or recommended? Thanks!
    cheers
    Prachi

    Hi Prachi
The nested iviews comes handy in case where in you model expects numerable UI elements or heavy UI screen.
Nested iview is a way of achieving componentized models and also avoids re-work.
You could avoid error like these:-
    "Error in compiling Flex application:
Error: Branch between 8479 and 41869 around line 0 exceeds 32K span.
If possible, please refactor this component.
    Failed to compile AAD8T3.mxml"
This is the well known 32K limitation from Adobe Flex 1.x. The compiled applications are not allowed to be larger than 32K. That usually happens with larger models.
    Solution:-
In order to solve this issue, you need to redesign your application and use nested iViews (basically splitting the model into multiple components)
To instantiate you,go through this thread:-

  • Is it possible to sort or filter the switch routes under the switching tab?

In Teststand 3.1, is it possible to filter the switch routes under the switching tab in Action Properties?  Since I have a large amount of routes that have been created in Switch Executive, how can I filter out some of the routes from the "Routes to Connect" section?

The TestStand Switching does not provide any inherent filtering capabilities.  You do have a couple of options, however.
    (1)  NI-Switch provides the ability to set up route connections in
different groups.  The Switch Page in TestStand allows you to
select Routing groups as well as specific Routes.  It may be
easier for you to organize your Connections as groups and choose
    between different groups.
    (2)  The Property page also allows you to build route connection
string and use that string  for your Switching actions.  It
may be easier for you to build a Route string and easily change that
string rather than selecting your routes everytime from within the
    TestStand window.

  • Skip product allocation under certain conditions

Hi everyone. We are trying to use EXIT_SAPLQUOT_001 which is supposed to be running prior to product allocation, so we can set up parameter E_AFLAG so that this functionality is skipped under certain conditions.
    Exit documentation says:
User Exit: SD Product Allocation, Enhanced Checks
    Functionality
The user exit is called up before reviewing the confirmed quantities against discrete allocations (from 3.0F).
Before this happens, the availibilty check is carried out if this is switched on in Customizing (ATP or against pre-planning). The results of this are transferred to product allocation.
You can carry out the following tasks with this function module:
    1. You can switch off or miss out product allocation (E_AFLAG). This can be general or depending on characteristic values. Other values to help make this decision can be imported from the order coding memory.
However, the exit doesn't seem to be triggered during sales order processing. It takes us straight into the product allocation screen, ignoring the breakpoint and the skipping instruction.
Any ideas? Anybody is using this exit for this purpose? We run product allocation without running ATP. Could this be the problem?
    Thanks!

    sounds like this the problem.
    as I understand,
if running ATP, EXIT_SAPLQUOT_001 is hit, based on your logic, prod alloc is skipped.
elseif ATP is turned off, EXIT_SAPLQUOT_001 is skipped, by default prd alloc is executed.
try setup break points on prod. alloc to see if you could have alternative flag to control...
go to debug mode and check call stacks to find another place to set break point.

  • Filter by entire keyword, not part of keywords

    Hi,
I am wondering if there is a way to filter by entire keywords, rather than just part of them. For example, say I have two keywords "young adult" and "adult". Is there a way to find all of the images with the keyword "adult" without getting all of the photos with "young adult" as well?
    Thank you,
    Nick

This is an annoying flaw in LR -- it's not easy to filter by exact keyword.  Some options:
    - In Smart Collections, you can use the two rules "Keywords contains adult" and "Keywords doesn't contain young".
    - In the Keyword List pane in the right-hand column, you can hover the mouse over the keyword "adult" and click the right-arrow that appears on the very right.
    - In the Library Filter bar, you can add the Keyword column and then select the "adult" keyword.
    - If you find these too clumsy, you can use the Filter By Keyword command of the Any Tag plugin to quickly filter by one or more exact keywords.

  • How to use nested table types with XDK

Im using Oracles XDK (xml development kit) to create xml-documents from data in database.4
Problem: I need to use nested tables but when trying to create nested table types I get error: A Table type may not contain a nested table type or VARRAY.
Hope I make myself clear! Are there any solutions or workarounds to this problem?
    Help appreciated, thanks!

    Jesper,
I asked similar question last year (search for Tapsell, you will see my posting). Under 8.1.7 the "nesting" seems restricted to one level down. Thus you cannot create a type using another object that itself includes a nested table. Under Oracle 9, against which most current examples seem based, this limitation is removed making things easier. Under 8.1.7 the workaround I have used is to use the CAST syntax. This is not as neat, but it works.

After I click "OK", I'm presented with an empty documents web part.
What can I do to get the files to show up?
    Thanks
    James T.F

    Hi James,
Thanks for posting your issue, I am sure that issue is your filter that you have created with "Enterprise
Keywords" because as per my understand you are able to see the documents with your
    current view of the webpart.
Please check the filter settings and criteria properly. You should be able to see the expected results
    in Web part.
I hope this is helpful to you. If this works, Please mark it as Answered.
