Filtering my incoming mail using alias

Hello,
I've just set up an alias on my mail account so I can use a different address for online shopping etc. I've set up a smart mailbox for these messages to go into but they still appear in my main mail box. How can I filter them so they only appear in a separate mail box? I don't want the mails for my alias and those for my main address all mixed up together...

Greetings and welcome,
The problem you are having is with using smart mailboxes. The smart mailbox only has links in it. What you need to do is set up rules that actually move your mail into regular mailboxes. Set up a standard mailbox rather than a smart one, and then have the rule move the mail into that mailbox.

  • Cannot Redirect Incoming mail Using a Rule

I can no longer redirect mail using a rule (it worked the first few times, but no longer.) I have tried setting up a new user account, the mail will still not redirect using a rule.
Has anyone found a solution to this problem?

    Michael,
If there is specific information you are after, then
it would be helpful to request that information
instead of just being short and snide.
You're assuming too much here. I don't know what the problem really is, not even whether there is a solution. To express in your own terms a different way to look at the situation, if there is a specific solution anyone here is after, then it would be helpful to provide all the relevant information instead of assuming that people willing to help is going to be able to guess what the problem really is...
And I don't need you to give me permission to believe what I want.
I haven't. Actually, what I've done is precisely acknowledging that.
His post was basically saying "Is anyone else out there having
trouble redirecting mail with a rule? If so... is there a solution?"
In other words, since I don't have that problem, and I don't even know what the problem really is, I should rather not have asked, right?
If I had other rules doing things with the messages that MIGHT
interefere with the process, I would have mentioned that.
Glad to know. Problem is, I'm confused now. What you said above made me believe that I should ask any specific questions I might have. Now, you seem to be saying that if no additional information was provided, that means I should assume that there is nothing else that could be relevant to the problem, and hence I shouldn't ask obviously redundant and unnecessary questions. Could you please clarify this?
Also, how was I supposed to know that this was the case? Should I assume that for every user that posts about a problem or only for you? If the latter, did I miss something that should have made me realize that was the case for you?
I'm not sure how to proceed now. I can honestly tell you that I still don't know what the problem is, nor whether it can be fixed. There is something about the fact that you're using a Gmail account that makes me wonder, but you've clearly stated below that I should go somewhere else if the information already provided isn't enough, so it seems the right thing to do here is to avoid wasting your time with stupid questions.
If this is not enough information for you...
then help someone else with their problem.
That's what I do, each and every day...
But just because you assume user error, doesn't mean
someone else hasn't found a solution to the problem that
    3 of us have explained.
I'm not assuming anything. That's what I'm trying to tell you, that I don't really know what's going on. I'm just trying to understand the problem in case I or someone else that, as a result of the discussion, finds a better description of what the problem really is, can help. If you feel that's not appropriate and I should have tried to help only if I already knew what the problem is and how to fix it, I apologize for having wasted your time.
Oh! And I'm not sure the problem is the same in all the cases being discussed here either.
    Regards.

  • Sending e-mail using alias on iphone

I have an iCloud (mobileme) account which has 2 alias emails as well as the main one.
When I send an email from alias 1 (my husband), it uses the Full name of alias 2 (mine) on the iPhone.
Main  - .me and .mac email address
Alias 1 - only a .me email address
Alias 2 - .mac and .me email address
It doesn't do this on Apple Mail or on the web based iCloud - only on the iPhone.
Has anyone else had this problem or know how to resolve it?
    Many thanks!

You might have done that already, but just in case.
You may select the default alias on your iphone doing
    Setting ->
      Mail, Contacts, Calendar ->
        Accounts: iCloud ->
          iCloud: Account ->
Advanced: Mail (bottom of the page) ->
             icloud Account Information: Email
there you have the alias list and you may tick the one you want as default.
Might be the case that you have the wrong one set.
No clue how you can select dynamically one of the others from the iPhone.
It looks complicated but actually it is not

  • Unable to receive incoming mail using Mail

    Hi there
I have been using MAC mail for a couple of years. My incoming email stopped all of a sudden a few weeks ago. I have deleted and reset my account on a few occassions with settings as supplied by my ISP (tiscali). It is a POP account. I can send email so outgoing server seems OK.
I am able to log in to tiscali webmail and retrieve my incoming email.
It appears as if there is an obstacle at some point. After resetting my mail account, there is a brief recognition of the 70 odd emails in my inbox but mail is uanble to download these.
    Any advice very welcome,
    Grant
    IMAC G5   Mac OS X (10.3.9)

    Hi Grant.
Sometimes messages left on the server clog up the account there, or Mail chokes on a message it cannot download and that prevents it from downloading the rest as well. Solving this problem will probably require deleting one or more messages from the server. What are your Preferences > Accounts > Advanced > Remove copy from server settings for this account?
You may tell Mail to remove from the server all the messages that have already been downloaded doing Preferences > Accounts > Advanced > Remove now. And if the account allows web access, you may also remove messages from the server that way.
Try first removing from the server messages that have already been downloaded. If that doesn’t work, you’ll probably have to delete the first message not downloaded yet. You may want to try to download those messages with another mail client such as Thunderbird first, to avoid losing them -- and use Eudora Mailbox Cleaner to import them back into Mail afterwards if you wish.

  • What host name do I use for Hotmail incoming mail server?

What host name do I use for Hotmail incoming mail server?

Access the homescreen and tap "Settings."
Go to "Mail, Contacts, and Calendars" and tap "Add Account." Your iPhone should display a list of email service providers. Even though you are setting up a Hotmail account, you will be doing it first through Gmail on your iPhone. Tap the Gmail icon to create a new account. Enter your name and a user name and password for the new Hotmail account you will be making later. Enter "imap.gmail.com" in the "HostName" column. Press the "Save" button at the upper right corner of the screen.
Enter your name, email address, password, and the description of the account. Next, click "Save." You should now be able to check your email from the homescreen.
Enter "smtp.gmail.com" in the "Outgoing Mail Server." Enter the password for this Gmail account in the "Password" column. Enter user name for this Gmail account in the "UserName" column. Press the "Save" button at the upper right corner of the screen. Press the "Home" button to return to the iPhone's home screen.
Use the Web browser to go to Hotmail.com and create a new account. Use the user name and password for the account that you entered into the Gmail account on the iPhone earlier. Click on “Settings” after the account has been created.
Click on the "Settings" tab. Click on the "Forwarding" tab. Click on the "Pop/IMAP" tab and select "Enable IMAP." Click on the "Save” button. Click on “Settings” and select “Accounts” and then “Add Another Email Address” from the webpage. Enter the name of your existing Hotmail account in the column. Press “Save.”
Go to the inbox. Open the message from Gmail and click on the link in the message box. Select the “Options” tab and check the “Forwarding email” box.
Send yourself a message to your Hotmail account from an email client. Click on the icon of the Mail program at the bottom of the iPhone’s screen. The email you sent to Hotmail will appear in the inbox of the Gmail account in the iPhone's email.

Nope, doesn't pass verification. I get the spinner for a minute or so, then the alert about setting it up without SSL. Are you suggesting I disable Fetch and Push BEFORE I enter the account details? Because I never get past the account details screen, unless I choose "Set up without SSL" after the warning.

  • Using Yosemite My incoming mail server changes by itself and means I can't access my email. When I go to preferences the new incoming mail server is greyed out. I then have to remove the accounts and get new ones.

Using Mail with Yosemite 10.10.2.The incoming mail server keeps changing by itself and means I can't access my mail. I  go to preferences and find that the new incoming server is greyed out .  I then have to remove the accounts and then add them again with the correct server. The incoming server which is greyed out is imap.gmail.com

Try Mail/Preferences/Accounts - select the account, then go to Advanced and deselect "Automatically detect and maintain account settings".

    Sabine,
What you report would be fully consistent with accessing your .mac account with a computer or mail client where the .mac account is setup as POP account.
With a .mac or IMAP account, if you happen to access the account from a computer or mail client that defaults to treat the account as POP, then often the further default is to download the messages, and further instruct the server to remove them. In other words, the IMAP or .mac account gets treated as a POP, and the messages are removed following download. It would make no difference how you had the setting on your primary computer, or primary mail client (Mail) -- the settings for server behavior are in each mail client, whether aboard more than one computer or not -- and would also be true of POP account selection of actions following initial download.
Remember, a .mac account acts like an IMAP account, and Inbox, is on the server, but the server will respond to being approached as though it is POP. The Dell would not have had an option to set the account type as .mac, so the proper choice would have been IMAP.

When trying to update my Mail Account Mailbox Behaviours settings, after making the changes when I try to close the settings pane the following messages occur: Invalid Incoming Mail Server The “Incoming Mail Server” field cannot be empty. The incoming mail server box has in light grey colour: p02-imap.mail.me.com in it and I cannot edit its content. Any ideas what is going on and how to fix it?

    Hi all,
Mattreichenbach is probably on the right track here with a reset of settings.  I think I've determined the issue has to do with cached account information and inconsistencies for the account name.  This seems to crop up when I've changed my password and it hasn't propagated fully to all the servers, devices, certificates, etc.
Hopefully many here are on their way to restoration of service by now but it's clear that a lot of people are having the same issues.  Very frustrating and definitely something Apple needs to resolve:  incoming mail server field grayed out, incorrect autopopulation of different fields, other unanticipated behaviors.  If you're still having issues, though, here's what worked for me...
First, head to the iCloud preferences pane in System Configuration and choose "Sign Out".  When I did this it prompted me with a number of "are you sure" type questions about retaining information on my local machine.  I chose to delete/remove the info each time simply because it should all be restored by the cloud and I didn't want to risk a massive duplication of my data... I will say, I'm back up and running with no issues so I suspect you can make the same delete/remove choices...  But use your own judgment.  I don't want you to lose any data (ie.. please use care as you do this because I cannot bear the thought of causing anyone to experience the pain of data loss).
Once you've signed out of iCloud, restart your system.  When you get back in, head to the Mail, Contacts and Calendars section of your System Preferences and add your account back by choosing the brushed aluminum "iCloud" button.  When it asks for your account name, use your @iCloud.com email address.  I am all but certain my issue had started because one of my devices (iPhone or whatever) had been set up with an email alias specified instead of my @iCloud.com address.
Apple, if you're reading through any of these issues (there are TONS of users having this same problem).  Take note, that your icloud service somewhat frequently is not responding and yet tells the user that the password is wrong and this prompts people to be changing their passwords unnecessarily.  This has happened to me on numerous occasions.  Also, I noticed that last week's outage corresponded to a VERY similar outage exactly one year ago to the day.  Sounds like planned maintenance to me and I think you could do a better job notifying folks so we're not wasting HUGE amounts of time troubleshooting a problem that we have no hope of fixing.
Hope that helps some of you!

  • Error when reciving mail with alias

    Hy,
In my SAP system I am able to send and recive emails already. But in some cases the incoming mail is refused.
If the mail is sent with <> the mail reaches SAP, if not it doesn't get into SAP.  If I send a mail via Outlook to one SAP adress it gets into SAP. If the mail sent by Outlook uses a alias it is refused by the host.
For example. (consider the # as a @ in the example. The forum don't allow to publish emails)
    case 1)
mail to user#domain.com  => results in connection dropped by remote host

    501 Syntax error
    case 3)
    mail to  <user#domain.com>   => OK
