Filtering sweep response

Hi all!
I wonder if there's any better solution to my problem:
I have several sweep signals that excite a structure so I can identify its natural frequency. As the environment where the signal have been acquired its quite noisy I decided to filter both signals (excitation and response) with a dynamic filter which is moving with the sweep. The crosspectrum gave me better results but it still must be improved. Any idea? Maybe it would be better to use wavelets or any joint time frequency vi?
Thanks in advance mates

Hello Lynn,
thanks for the answer. You are right that there are few points "behind" the curve in the graph, see png.
However, this is the filter response which Labview (2009) provides to me directly out of the "IIR Filter for 1 Channel. vi" in the "filter information" output cluster. Where up to now I do not know how to influence it - apart from adjusting the input parameters "IIR filter specifications". OK, I assume I have to gain more knowledge of this. The curve of the magnitude resonse dies not change when I change the number of samples of the input signal of the signal generator, only wehn I change the sampling rate.
I used directly the example vi from Labview with the name indicated in my first post "IIR Filtering and Response.vi".
So I assumed that everybody has it in his/her examples shipped with LV and it is not necessary to post it.
I just adjusted the size of the diagram of magnitude response to see the curves better as you see in the attached vi.
So I did no changes to the vital parts of signal generation and filter of the example. The screenshots are like they come from the example when using the option "one waveform" where I as user assume that this which is behind is quality-controlled by NI.
I was also astonished that the filter magnitude response is different to the one I copied out of graphs 1 year ago - but I unfortunately cannot reconstruct which example I used there...
Thanks for any further comments
chris

  • IIR Filtering and response .vi: Butterworth filter magnitude response depends on sampling rate -why?

    Hi folks,
I am not expert in filter design, only someone applying them, so please can someone help me with an explanation?
I need to filter very low-frequent signals using a buttherwoth filter 2. or 3. order as bandpass 0.1 to 10 Hz .
Very relevant amplitudes are BELOW 1 Hz, often below 0.5 Hz but there will be as well relevant amplitudes above 5 Hz to be observed.
This is fixed and prescribed for the application.
However, the sampling rate of the measurement system is not prescribed. It may be between say between 30 and 2000 Hz. This will depend on whether the same data set is used for analysing higher frequencies up to 1000 Hz of the same measurement or this is not done by the user and he chooses a lower sampling rate to reduce the file sizes, especially when measuring for longer periods of several weeks.
To compare the 2nd and 3rd order's magnitude response of the filter I used the example IIR Filtering and response .vi:
I was very astonished when I the found that the magnitude response is significantly influenced by the SAMPLING RATE I tell the signal generator in this example vi.
Can you please tell me why - and especially why the 3rd order filter will be worse for the low frequency parts below 1 Hz of the signal. I was told by people experienced with filters that the 3rd oder will distort less the amplitudes which is not at all true for my relevant frequencies below 1 Hz.
In the attached png you see 4 screenshots for 2 or 3 order and sampling rate 300 or 1000 Hz to show you the varying magnitude responses without opening labview.
    THANK YOU for your ANSWERS!!!

  • Advice Needed: Filtering/Adding effects to multiple tracks

I'm writing a dance song, and at one point would like to apply a few filtering sweeps on selected drum tracks.
Which is the best way to do it? Is it to bounce down the tracks into an audio file, then apply the effects onto that file by itself, or is it better to route the multiple tracks to an effects bus?
I have been trying using a bus, but have found that as soon as I route the tracks to the bus, the is a change in the sound quality of the track (louder and sometimes slightly distorted), even without any plugins on the bus. Am I doing something wrong?
    Thanks.

of the track (louder and sometimes slightly distorted), even

How are you routing to a bus? If you are just using sends, then what's happeing is that the individual channels are going to the master output, and also being sent to a bus that is also going to the master output - this everything sent to that bus will get louder.
If you want to send a bunch of channels directly to a bus for insert processing, then change each channel's output to the bus, rather than the main output, so the individual channels only go to the mix via the bus, and not directly.
Or are you doing something different to that?

  • Restrict SR Type based on responsibility

    Hi all,
I am trying to restrict SR Type based on responsibility. Oracle 11.5.9 document has the following statement. has anyone got this going ? or is there a bug??
    Thanks,
    Gana
3.10.1.29. Map Service Request Types by Responsibility
To be consistent with iSupport, Service Request Types can be mapped to responsibilities.
This allows a customer to filter out the unnecessary or unrelated Service Request Types
and display the relevant ones to specific responsibilities in the Create, Update and View
Service Request forms. A Street Service’s agent will only see Service Request types of
Abandoned Vehicles and Street Cleaning and not Animal Retrieval.

    Thank you.
But this is a Bug for version earlier then 11.5.9 and it is declared by Oracle.
It is a enhancement request number 2445606 and is incorporated into the released 11.5.9 version of the product, but it does not function in any earlier release.
    The Profile option is
'Service: Use SR Type - Responsibility Mapping'
This profile can be set at Site and / or Responsibility Level.
If set to 'Y' at only the Site level, this indicates that the Type will always be filtered by Responsibility, no matter what the responsibility is. In this case, the Service Request Types should be mapped to the required responsbilities.
If set to 'Y' at Site level, and 'N' for Responsibility say 'R1', then responsibility 'R1' will have access to all SR types, but for all other responsibilities, SR types will be filtered to the list of what is mapped to the Responsibility.
    Thank you

  • VWLC 802.1x NPS authentication Fails

    Hi Guys,
Hopefully someone can help me with the following problem i'm facing...
I've a vWLC running 7.3 deployed in our HQ site.
At the HQ we have a W2k8 R2 NPS deployed at works fine for VPN, Router and Switch Authentication
In a few remote branch offices which are connected to the HQ over DMVPN we have a couple of 3500's running in flexconnect mode with local switching.
These AP's register just fine through the VPN link back to the vWLC.
We deployed a few SSID's that are bound to AP groups.
All SSID's that use WPA2 with PSK work fine
All SSID's that use WPA2 with 802.1x Fail
The Security Settings for the failing SSID's are:
    WPA2 Policy
    WPA2 Encryption AES
    Key Man 802.1x
AAA Server is pointing to the right NPS for Auth and Accounting
    Radius overwrite IF is disabled
The settings of the NPS are:
    Conditions:

    Auth Method: EAP
    NAP Enforcement: Allow full access

When a laptop (Mac os 10.8) tries to connect to a 802.1x SSID It Prompts for a username and passwd.
Using DOMAIN\user + passwd the client tries to authenticate for a couple of times and fails
On the vWLC i can see trap:
AAA Authentication Failure for UserName:user  User Type: WLAN USER
At the NPS i can see:

  • Putting own custom Writer class in the runtime enviornment of JSP

    Hello All:
i have a doubt that i have made my own JSPWriter class and i want to use this class to be loaded in the runtime enviornment of the tomcat to get a custom output that is required by me .... for this i have written my own PageContext and through it i am instanciating this writer and successfully using it but is it the right procedure or i shall somehow need to follow some other procedure to get the task done. Another doubt that i have is if i load my suitable classes and in the runtime enviornment, will it effect the other applications that are running on the server ... and what ahould be the ways to overcome this .... is they follow the same procedure as i have then i think they are not supposed to face any problem ... kindly give me suggestions as i am in need of finding a solution as soon as possible ...
One another thing that i need to ask is that if we want to read the contents that are being sent to the client brower through the JSP then how to get that .....
I hope you will try to understand my urgency..
    thanks in advance
    Dodo

Please read http://java.sun.com/j2ee/tutorial/1_3-fcs/doc/Servlets8.html#82361 on filters and response wrappers. The advantage to this approach is that you can target your replacement writer to specific web resources and capture output.

  • Synchronous operation with a message selector possible?

I have a situation where the following condition exists:
    - a number of servlet threads (1-n) will post to request to an external asynchronous system with a unique id.
    - the external system will post the responses to a JMS queue.
    - my servlet threads need to receive their - and only their message from the queue
    - my servlet threads need to have timeout
The problem is, I need the selectivity of a message selector, but also the timeout of a .receive() method.
I have considered filtering the responses in each onMessage event, but this will not scale well when many responses exist.
    Any recommendations will be appreciated.

I think I answered my own question. I was confusing a MessageSelector with a MessageListener - two different animals....
I was able to implement the pub/sub with the following syntax:
/* the publisher would put the transaction_id (unique id) in the
JMSCorrelationID field in the message header. */
    message.setJMSCorrelationID(transaction_id);
/* The subscriber will only receive messages that match this trans ID. This will be accomplished by adding the following MessageSelector clause to the subscriber session:*/
    String selector = "JMSCorrelationID = '"+transaction_id+"'";
    subscriber = subscriberSession.createSubscriber(topic,selector,true);

  • Recording Effects on top of a track, or tracking automation live?

Is there a way for me to play with the dials and knobs of my plug-ins after I have already recorded a track?
I want to be able to use a pretty cool plug-in that I found that has a great range of filters, sweeps and such, but I've already laid down the track and the automation would be extremely difficult to map out by hand...
Is it possible to track automation live?
    Any clues?

Is it possible to track automation live?
Sure several ways of doing this:
Set the Audio track to Automation "Latch" or "Write" Mode - press play - tweak the Plug In with your Mouse - the Automation Engine will record your mouse movements
Assign different Controllers (knobs on your Synth or Control device) to different parameters in the Automation->Quick Access Menue - go into "Latch" or "Write" Mode - press play - record the Controller movements
    or really old school "live"
Assign the Audio track to a Bus - use that Bus as an Input for a new Audio track - press record - tweak your Plug In while recording the new Audio track - the Plug In movements will get printed onto the new track together with the original Audio

  • Space Designer Deconvolution Problem/Question

Hi everyone. When I try to deconvolve my recorded sine sweep responses in space designer the result is just a wave file minus the sine sweep. In other words the resulting IR has no reverb tail. Is this normal? Do I have to then create a Reverb tail?
    Thanks
    iMac   Mac OS X (10.4.7)

    Another way of wording the question that I originally asked;
I recorded a ten second sine sweep. when I deconvolve I end up with a ten second impulse response. Is this normal? Do I now need to shorten the IR using space designer, or is it supposed to create a reverb tail automatically?
If anyone out there knows this answer please let me know.

  • Tapped delay line structure

If I wish to emulate a wireless multi-path channel, is there a way I can bring in the tapped delay line filter structure into my LV code ? I mean, would I be able to get accurate delays, say in the order of ns for my taps ? Also, how do I model the delays ?I've been searching for help on this subject but haven't been able to find much.

If you know your filter specifications (lower/upper passband/stopband) then you can use the "Digital FIR Filter" vi to filter your channel. If you know the coefficients of the desired filter, then you can use the "FIR Filter" vi. One way you can create delay is to use the "Continuous Convolution (FIR)" vi to convolve your waveform with a shifted Kronecker delta. You can make this delay in the order of ns if the sampling frequency of the simulated channel is high enough. Have you looked at LabVIEW examples that use filtering? Check out the example "FIR Filtering and Response.vi" in the NI Example Finder.

  • Unwired 'Upper PB' Parameter in FIR Coefficients VI

    Hello everyone,
I am using the NI_MAPro.lvlibigital FIR Filter.vi to do a Low Pass.
Does anyone know what the coefficients and filter algorithms do when I leave the 'Upper PB' parameter unwired (0)?
I am  using the Digital FIR Filter vi to do a windowed low pass filter, and am not wiring the upper PassBand parameter, as I want to do simple Low Pass.  however, in the FIR Coefficient generation logic, the 'NI_MaPro.livlib:ma_Design FIR Coeff.vi' vi uses both the Upper PB and Lower PB for the Windowed FIR filter type no matter what the type of filter I am using (band pass, low pass, etc.).  I am assuming that if you don't wire the 'Upper PB' parameter in conjuction with selecting 'Low Pass', the algorithm assumes that the upper limit is infinity.  HOWEVER, the implementation of the FIR filter is a code interface node.  Does anyone know explcitily the behavior in this case?
    Thanks,
    Wes

    Hello Wes,
I am not sure if the Digital FIR Filter vi can be used to do a windowed low pass filter and not using the upper BandPass. However, there is a great example with low pass filters and the and the FIR digital filter called FIR filtering and Response.vi it shipped with LabVIEW and you can set up the properties for the Low Pass filter.
If you are going to use the "Digital
FIR Filter" function of LabVIEW. This function has two main inputs: the
input signal to be filtered, obviously, and a cluster named "FIR filter
specification". You have to set the parameters of this cluster
according to what your filter must do; but this, doesn't
concern with LabVIEW, it is instead bound to the general theory of FIR
    filtering signals.
For general information, to create a frequency filter (let it be low-pass, high-pass, band-pass
or notch) in a software environment, you have to use one of two
different methods, FIR or IIR. By using these filters with different
parameters, you are able to recreate any type of filter desirable.
    In
LabVIEW you have the option of specifying parameters of the raw FIR or
IIR filter or to use already defined filters like Butterworth,
Chebyshev, Bessel etc. Basically, these filters are still using the IIR
    algorithm.
All of the filters described will have a
filtering effect in the frequency domain represented by the FFT. FFT is
not a filter by itself, but a transformation technique from time domain
    to the frequency domain.
Please read more about filters here:

I hope this answers your question. If not, please let me know,

  • Non-responsive filters in Query Designer

    Good afternoon all,
We have upgraded to version 7 but are still using the 3x version for reporting.
We have noted that within the query designer when trying to place filters on certain characteristics e.g Wage Type, Pay Scale Group the report hangs for a long time before bringing back any values for selection. This only seems to be happening within the query designer, when the query is executed we are able to filter on variables with ease, yet these same objects within designer are non responsive.
I've searched on here and for any relevant notes but with no joy, any ideas?
I should also say that also after upgrade we had issues when selecting on these characteristics within the selection screen when running these queries and solved it by changing the Provider Specific Properties  Query Exec Filter to Value M Values in Master Data table.

    Hello,
We have exactly the same problem. We also upgraded to 7.0 but are using 3.x functionality. Did you solve this problem?
    Kind regards,
    Bernd Evers

  • How do I SUM filtered column set only in FormsCentral View Responses?

Hello... When I use the FormsCentral "view responses" tab's excel spreadsheet report, I can't seem to SUBTOTAL any columns once they have been filtered!
I only see an option for adding SUM in the last row, but it calculates all of the filtered and unfiltered amounts together anyway... How can I only add up and report the amount for the filtered set selected??
    Thank you!  -Chris

    Hi wcanerday,
Thanks for the green tick and your feedback. Yes, the SUMIF function is powerful!
When you adapt the Personal Budget template, make sure that the items in the Category Column (A) on the Budget sheet exactly match the items in the Pop-Up Menus in Column C of the Transactions sheet.
Editing a Pop-Up Menu in Numbers 3 is easy. Please call back if you need more help.

  • Copy responses table to create new (filtered) ones

Hi!  I would like to duplicate the ALL RESPONSES table onto new sheets, and generate two tables from that information.  Basically, the form I have created will divide the respondents into two groups.  So I would like to see a table that includes all responses (which is the default table), then another table with only group A, and another with group B.  I figured it would be easier to just copy the main table and filter the info in the new ones.  Is this possible?     Is it possible also to build summary reports based on the newly created (filtered) tables?  Thanks guys

You can add additional tables by going to the top Insert menu and selection "Sheet". You can then copy and paste data into it - note these other sheets/tables are not live data, nor are they connected to the original response table. They are just copies of the data.
The summary report currently can only show charts for the main response table, it won't work for the newly created sheets/tables.
