Final Cut Pro to Imovie widescreen settings....

Hi,
What is the setting to export (widescreen) video to iMovie? The footage I took is natively widescreen but when I export it to iMovie the left side is cropped?!?
Thanks for the help in advance!
MC

1:Yes.
2: and Imovie is easier to use for me right now at the moment. DVDSP is not very straight forward and I'm trying to make standard def widescreen movies.
Thanks

  • How to compress/adjust imported videos in Final Cut Pro and iMovie?

Left: what the video looks like when played in iPhoto or Quicktime (Dimensions: 960 x 720, Codecs: AAC, H.264) .mov
Right:  what the video looks like when played in iMovie or Final Cut Pro.
    SOS

the left shot is 4:3 (960/720)
    the right shot is a 16:9 project (1920/1080 or 1280/720) with a stretched-to-fit 4.3 video.
If you want an un-stretched project, set it to 4:3 manually when you create a New project, or use the transform-tool and resize the video - which will add bars l/r or chops-off t/b of the video...
or use the Spatial Confirm settings in the Inspector ...

  • Can I move video files from Final Cut Pro to iMovie?

I've used iMovie forever, and I just bought Final Cut Pro.  I uploaded video for a new movie into FCP, but I have an urgent need to get this movie done and don't have time to learn Final Cut Pro to do it.  Can I move my video files from FCP over to iMovie 10.0.6?  Or do I need to reload the raw video to iMovie?

No you will have to import your clips again into iMovie 10.  Projects can only be transferred from iMovie 10 to FCPX and not the other way.

  • Final Cut Pro 7 initial setup settings (DSLR user) new user

    Hello Guys,
I just bought Final Cut Pro 7 and installed it. Can anyone give me some tips on how to do an initial setup or how I should set up my Final Cut Pro. Scratch disk, ext.
How can I optimize it for HD DSLR? I mainly shoot with Canon 5d and Canon7d DSLR with 24frames per second and I will importing and editing and capturing footage from these DSLR, how should I set the preferences and settings be on my final cut pro 7 best optimal use for these cameras.
I also heard that I should be converting all the videos to pro res 422 before editing, so It can render faster or something like that. Can some please explain that pro res conversion part.
I am also a new user, I have little knowledge on fcp, so please bare with my newbie questions. Thanks so much.

Thanks Nick for the links, I'm actually a video guy, been doing corporate av video for concerts, professional sports, broadway theatre, and corporate evens, and also do my own videography on the side. But I am more of a shooter, I have used FCP in the past awhile back but I had a partner that did all of the editing. But I have used it FCP in the past, can't remember much though.
Does anyone know which apple pro res format is best for DSLR editing. I see there is 422, 422(proxy), 422(HQ), 422(LT) and 4444.

  • Can Final Cut Pro Open iMovie projects?

I am just curious because I have a lot of clips into a project of imovie that I wanted to use in final cut pro but I could just copy all the clips but I wanted to check in advance to see if that was possible.

You used to be able to just open iMovie 06 projects in Final Cut but Apple made it a bit more complex.
In iMovie 08, select the SHARE menu and then click on "Export Final Cut Pro XML"
    Save the XMl someplace fun.
Then exit iMovie if you're finished.
Back in FCP, right-click in the Browser window and select IMPORT and then click on XML.
Navigate to find the XML you just exported from iMovie, click on it, and open it.
A new sequence is created and you simply need to load that sequence (By double-clicking).
    Everything is wonderful.
Warning, do NOT use the File | Open menu sequence which can locate and open the XML because this will cause the new COLOR program to load the iMovie Project and that wasn't so much fun.

  • How do i reset my Final Cut Pro 6 to factory settings

I am working on a video shoot and as i start normally i import all my .mov files and edit... When i finished i export my movie to the same sequence settings as i was working on...
My problem is after i import my .mov files and start editing die it is as if the program is REALLY slow freezes for a sec and then continues and when i just play it back there between clips it freezes for a sec again and then does not play smoothly... and when i export the exported mov does the same thing and for some of the clips it sort of crashes what i mean is it will suddenly make the mov flash all the colors of the rainbow... green ext... and not show the clips... i came to realize that FCP exports the final mov with that glitches...
So is there anyway i can fix that problems or just reset my FCP to the factory settings??? o yea... when i render the mov or export it, it takes forever!!! like i tried to export a 76 min mov that i edited and it took 37 hours to export and same with the render... a small 1 min clip that needs to be render takes more than a hour to render...
Please if there is somebody that can help me let me know...
    Kind Regards
    Marco van Vuuren

    ok......
kaz-k Thank u very much.... your advice REALLY helped me out!!! but now still when i play my edited clips in my timeline it still freezes and then it tells me there was dropped frames and when i export it die same place where it gave me dropped frames, the exported movie also freezes and still on the end of the exported movie it does not show my credits but still gives me that glitches where the colors flashes...
    any ideas???
Meg The DogThank u very much.... I will download the program as soon as possible but tell me... Does it only fix the FCP preferences or the MAC itself?
Studio XThank u very much.... I copyed the files from the camera as .mts files and FCP does not work with that format so i have a converting program on windows (Format Factory) and converted it to .mov files... Is there a program witch i can download for imac version 10.4.11 and most impotent macpro version 10.5.8 (the 1 with FCP) that is a full program and that won't take so long or put a watermark or something on the files???
    Kind Regard to all

  • Import From Final Cut Pro To iMovie

I know it seems backwards, but it is what I want to do. How can I move my FCX 10.0.2 project with it's events to iMovie 10?

    No joy on this end.
I'm trying to export an event or the files in the event from iMovie 10.0.6 into FCPX 10.10.1.
    Running Yosemite.
Only option to export  in iMovie is file>share> but then all options are grayed out, e.g. theater, email, vimeo, file, etc.
Cannot export as xml (no option found). Cannot drag-drop from iMovie to fcpx either.
Tried to import to FCPX using file>import>media   but cannot find the iMovie event or the files associated with it.
Can you give me a tip on this one?
    Thanks..

  • How Can I do an export that from Final Cut Pro 7 that is specific to these settings?

    Hi
I am current trying to export out a movie from Final Cut Pro 7 but the settings that are required are very specific and I was going to try it through compressor as well but I wasn't sure if that would work either.
    Here are the settings:
    HD:
    1 Video CODEC                 XDCAMHD50
    2 Wrapper format           QuickTime Self-Contained
3 Bit rate                              50 Mbit/s Constant Bit Rate (CBR)
    4 GOP                                   Long GOP
                                                 Closed GOP
5 Time code                       Must include embedded time code. Start-timecode: 10:00:00:00
6 Movie version               UK Home Video Version
7 Delivery time                 As per contract. Supplier to specify filename, delivery format and estimated time of arrival via email at least 60 days before                                                           transmission unless otherwise specified in contract. This should be accompanied by an IMDB link.
    1 HD video format           720 line progressively scanned (720p) @ 50Hz (25 FPS)
                                              1080 line interlace scanned (1080i) @ 50Hz (25 FPS)
    2 Resolution                      1280 x 720
                                               1920 x 1080
3 Aspect ratio                    Content should be 16:9, however 4:3 will be accepted on exception (such as for older movies shot in 4:3)
4 Graphics                           Must be within 16:9 safe graphics area (EBU R95-2000)
    5 Chroma format              4:2:2
1 HD audio format           24 bits/sample 48 kHz sampling rate
    2 Track layout                    Track 1 – 2.0 Stereo L mono
                                                Track 2 – 2.0 Stereo R mono
                                                Track 3 – L
                                                Track 4 – R
                                                Track 5 – C
Track 6 - Low frequency effects LFE
                                                Track 7 – L Surround
                                                Track 8 – R Surround

First of all, what are your sequence settings?  Looks like they want stereo AND dolby 5.1 audio tracks embedded in the quicktime (I've delivered a few films like this).  Do you have a surround sound mix?
You will almost always have more options and control in compressor over fcp so that's the way I'd go, but not sure compressor will give you the ability to match these specs.
Do you understand about safe zones for graphics?  If not, post back.
I don't see any option to set the GOP in xdcam in compressor.  This may be built in to the xdcam format.
I don't see any option for 720 xdcam hd in compressor.
There are many other tools available for this kind of work, but they may be out of your price range.  You might want to just find a facility with experience in deliverying this sort of thing.

  • Imovie, final cut pro and photographs.

    Hi,
I have been editing footage using imovie, can I import these edited clips into final cut pro from imovie? ... or will i have to import footage directly from dv tape into final cut pro?
I am using digital photoes, when I import these images into final cut pro, how can I make sure that the image size of these photoes are the right dimension for screen (4:3 screen)?
    Help appreciated,
    agot bugge

but it still will not allow me to choose it
What's the first it and what's the second it?
You should be able to select the clips on the card in ClipWrap and use rewrap to make it into QuickTime with the H.264 codec. Or you can convert to ProRes to get optimized file. You also have the option to convert to ProRes LT, which isn't even available in FCP.

  • Final Cut Pro (render) quicktime compressors

I have over 200 clips that I need to edit from my camcorder, and I don't have much space on my Mac for rendering. I recently leaned that to avoid rendering you can go into Sequence>Settings and then choose a compressor in the quicktime video settings, and all clips that use that compressor don't have to be rendered. The Clips are all Apple MPEG-2 SD that I imported onto my computer using iMovie'09. My mac can play these files perfectly, and I even had the MPEG 2 component before hand, but in Final Cut Pro in the sequence settings there is no "Apple MPEG-2 SD" in the compressor list. Is there anyway I can download one for FCP, or an alternative to avoid encoding/rendering?

MPEG 2 is a delivery format, not an editing format. You'll need to transcode those clips to a format that is FCP friendly first if you don't want to render after every edit.

  • Import Failure-- Final Cut Pro XML

I am editing a short film with my school imacs and I want to bring that project home to add my music and sound effects in premiere pro CS6. I Exported an XML file from Final cut pro 6 with standard settings. I copied the xml file to a flash drive and brought home to my windows 7 PC with Adobe Premeire Pro CS6 installed. When Import the XML file from my flash drive i get the error-- This project contained a sequence that could not be opened. No sequence preview preset file or codec could be asociated with this file type. I checked the codec of the XML and  it is <codecname>Apple ProRes 422</codecname>. Any help?

When you reimport the exported project XML to FCP, do you get the full project or just the single bin/sequence? If you get the full project then it sounds like you need Premiere help, not FCP help ... have you tried asking on the Adobe forums? If you only get the single bin/sequence then it seems you might have inadvertently selected those prior to creating the project export. Try making sure that your FCP Browser window is active and that you have not selected anything within that window prior to using the File > Export > XML command. If that still causes issue then you might try using an earlier FCP XML version.
    Hope it helps

  • Stabilization final cut pro x

can't stabilize clips in final cut pro x
imovie stabilized perfectly but final cut pro x won't. i even tried to change the field domination override to "progressive" with no luck
    any ideas?
i'm using a sony TG7 hd cam (avcdh)

Motion can create video from an image sequence and it can handle stabilization as well (usually quite well I might add).
In order for a series of images to be "recognized" as an image sequence, every file needs to be correctly named, usually something like:
ImageName_xxxx.typ  where xxxx are the sequential count (and 'typ' is jpg, png, tif, etc...).
If your images aren't already named like that, then going through and doing that manually can be quite a nightmare.
I have this Automator application that will do it for you. Place all the images into a folder then drop the folder on the App Icon. The application will pop up a small dialog asking how you want the images sorted (default is by creation date in descending order - as if from a camera memory card). All the files are renamed ImgSeq_0001.xxx (any image type will work) so make a duplicate set if the original names are important. Renaming is almost instantaneous (for larger jobs you'll see a progress bar on the folder in Mavericks.)
You can download the 'Make Image Sequence' automator app from:

  • How do you import a Widescreen Quick Time File captured by Final Cut Pro?

    Hi
Here's my workflow: I captured HD 1440X1080 footage in Final Cut Pro. FCP creates a folder of Quick Time Files in a Scratch Folder. A month ago, I had no problem importing the Quick Time files into IMOVIE HD 6 and preserving the widescreen format.
Now, for some reason, when I import the same files into IMOVIE HD, it is squashing the image (stretching it vertically) and leaving a gray bar on the left side of the screen.
Can IMOVIE HD import Widescreen QT files created by FCP? If so, how?
    All help appreciated.
    Phil

iDVD does everything automatically for you. With DVDSP and Compressor, all steps must be done correctly. The trade off is that you achieve better quality using Compressor over iDVD.
    1. First thing to do is export your sequence as an uncompressed interlaced 25i 720 x 576 16x9 Anamorphic QT.
    2. Determine your optimal bitrate by using a bitrate calculator. Here's a good one. Remember you need to account for all video on the disc, including motion menus.
    http://www.videohelp.com/calc.htm
    3. Bring your down converted QT into Compressor and use the manual settings set your bitrate. Also encode out a Dolby digital AC3 file. These files take up less bandwidth than uncompressed audio. Also remember to match your upper fiiled dominate filed order as well in Compressor. This must be consistent throughout the export and encoding stages.
    4. bring your encoded video and audio files into DVDSP and author
