'Find' function causing Acrobat 10.1.4 to crash

Hi, I'm editing a pdf and it consistently crashes when I do a find. The first one is ok, but either pressing the 'enter' key on the keyboard or clicking the right arrow on the screen both result in Acrobat crashing. Anyone have any advice please?
Update: it seems ok if I click out back into the document after each occurrence, but if I stay in the 'find' mode, and click through, it will crash. Sometimes it will last 3 or 4 times, but often it will crash on only the second click.

  • Digitally signed documents causing Acrobat 9.3.1 to crash

    Multiple users at my office are experiencing problems with digitally-signed PDFs.  As soon as anyone tries to open the PDFs that have been signed, Acrobat crashes.  We're using Acrobat 9.3.1 (32-bit) on 64-bit Windows 7.  Reinstalling Acrobat has not helped.  Adobe Reader 10 can open the documents successfully.  I can duplicate the problem on any machine.

    Reader 10 was not installed on the same machine, no.  Upgrading to 9.5.1 is not currently an option, nor will it become one for several months.  We are in a corporate environment that is currently standardized on 9.3.1, and we have a number of applications that are dependent on that specific version.  What other options can you offer that allow us to stick with Acrobat 9.3.1?

  • Finder problems cause MS Office to hang; system crashes

    Since migrating from a mid-2007 iMac to a beautiful new 27-inch iMac, I have recurring problems with Word, Excel, and PowerPoint hanging when I try to open or save files. It's sporadic, but usually requires a re-boot to clear. I also have had some Safari crashes and about 4 or 5 sudden system reboots in the 6 weeks or so that I've had the system. I used Migration Assistant to move my "stuff" from the old system to the new one. Running 10.8.3 on both systems.
    Any suggestions??

  • Acrobat 9 Find Function Needs to Highlight the found text

    Searching existing documents for a word using "Find" sometimes results in the word being highlighted and sometimes only the cursor is placed at the found word with no highlight. This is a problem because the cursor is very hard to locate without highlighting.
    The "Find" function should insure that found text is always highlighted.
    Or maybe there is a setting for this?
    (Also still waiting for a default View/Page Display to "Two Up Continous" as it constantly defaults to One Page which is a waste of the wide monitors.)
    Thank you.

    This bug has been fixed in the Acrobat 9.4.6 update:

  • PDF Searching using Adobe Acrobat Plugin Find Function in Safari

    I currently incorporate the Adobe Acrobat Pro (9.1.2) plugin for viewing PDF files. I like using Safari for viewing PDFs within a web browser, but I find Safari's built-in Find function (open apple-F) inferior to Acrobat's ability to search for text within the PDF, as it never finds the words that I search for.
    My question is: Is there an efficient built-in shortcut within Safari to search text within a PDF using Adobe Acrobat's plugin Find function? If not, is there a relatively easy, keyboard-based shortcut that could be made to direct the Find function to the Adobe Acrobat plugin Find function within Safari?
    Thanks,
    Ben

    Figured it out.  It had nothing to do with the software levels of Safari or Adobe Acrobat.  Here's the fix:
    Open Finder/Applications
    Search "Internet Plug-Ins"
    Move any Adobe plug-ins to the trash
    Quit Safari
    Launch Safari
    Your pdf document should now render in Print Preview and print properly.

  • The Find function (Ctrl+F), mis-finds the desired simple text in Acrobat Standard, but works fine in Reader

    Adobe Acrobat X 10.1.13, Win 7 64bit,
    The Find function (Ctrl+F), mis-finds the desired simple text.
    This is not a scanned document.  When I search for some word that DOES exist in the document, Acrobat will highlight text that does not match at all and which does NOT contain the word.  If I select the actual word, copy and past the text, I get the selected text accurately, but when I paste the same selected text into the Find box to search for it, Acrobat still mis-finds.
    HOWEVER, I can open the very same .PDF file in Acrobat Reader X and do not have the same problem - Find works correctly in Reader with the same .PDF.
    What is going on?!  Both Acrobat standard, and Reader report that they are up to date.   Please help.

    Can you try rasterizing (converting the document to tiff/bmp) and then importing those image files (tiff/bmp) back in Acrobat.
    This would allow document to be re-OCRed and you will be able to search text in it. You can use lossless export/import settings to preserve the quality of ducment.
    For exporting the file:
    1: Go to File > Save As Other > Image > Tiff.
    2: Click on Settings button in the Save As Dialog and set the file settings as ZIP for Monochrome, Grayscale and Color.
    Now for importing the files back:
    1: Press Ctrl + K
    2: In the Preferences dialog, select Convert To PDF option in Categories.
    3: Choose tiff or bmp (as per the format used while exporting) and un-check Scan Optimization and OCR.
    4: Set Color and Grayscale to Zip and Monochrome to CCITT G4.
    5: Save the settings.
    6: Now import all the pages in Acrobat.
    7: You can use Combine Files feature to merge all the image files.

  • Need help in finding the root cause the error 'Could not find function:'

    Hi fokls,
    In my workflow notification , when I click on the notification to process it , it says ' 'Could not find function:' error.
    I found the this message is coming out from the Fnd_new_messages table from the message_name 'FND_FUNCTION_NOT_FOUND'.
    Here are my questions ...
    1. FND_FUNCTION_NOT_FOUND - Is it a oracle Seeded message ?
    2. If so the error I am getting is a oracle product Bug ?
    And In between , I am getting this error for few transaction only. ( out of 100 , i am getting this error at the rate of 5 per 100 ... or less)
    3 .If its a oracle product bug then , how is 95 out of 100 transaction are succssfully wokring ?
    4. If is a custom bug , how it os not though for some other 95 transaction ?
    5. Can I expect it as Data issue ? If so what kind of data issue.
    Folks , any kind of info will be really , realy helpful for me ... please let me know your inputs for me.
    Thansk to all in advance
    Raghu

    In the error message 'Could not find function:' after colon what function name it is giving.
    'FND_FUNCTION_NOT_FOUND' is a seeded message only.
    As you are saying the error was throwing only for 5% or less notifications, is the error throwing for same kind of notifications? I mean the item type and message are same for these erroneous notifications?
    It can be that some function in particular type of workflow is error-ed out does not exists, when responding to those kind of notifications it might be throwing error.
    Please check that.

  • Warnings in FileReference - can not find the cause

    I'm trying to make a loader of a few photos (use FileReference). I get the warnings, but I do not know the reason for their appearance.

    In my opinion this is the line that is causing you the warning:
    <mx:Image source="{data.fr.data}" maxWidth="100" maxHeight="75"
    horizontalAlign="center" verticalAlign="middle" />
    That means that data should be a custom binable object and fr should be another
    custom bindable object.
    like
    public class BindableData
        public var fr:BindableData2;
    public class BindableData2
        public var data:String;

    Subject: Re: Warnings in FileReference - can not find the cause
    I found the solution to the first part of the warning. Only need to modify the
    object as ObjectProxy
    public var elem:ObjectProxy = new ObjectProxy;
    But with the second part is still a problem (warning: unable to bind to property
    'name' on class 'flash.net::FileReference'
    warning: unable to bind to property 'data' on class 'flash.net::FileReference').
    I do not fully describe the problem in the first message. The main application
    calls the component and passes it parameters. They cause errors.
    It is this component photoThumb.mxml:
    <?xml version="1.0" encoding="utf-8"?>
       width="120" height="110"
       backgroundColor="#FFFFFF" backgroundAlpha="0"
       rollOver="{controls.visible=true;}" rollOut="{controls.visible=false;}">
    <mx:Image source="@Embed('t1.png')" width="100%" height="100%" alpha="0"
    horizontalAlign="center" verticalAlign="middle"/>
    <mx:VBox width="100%" height="90" y="5" horizontalAlign="center" >
    <mx:Image source="{data.fr.data}" maxWidth="100" maxHeight="75"
    horizontalAlign="center" verticalAlign="middle" />
    </mx:VBox>
    <mx:Label text="{data.fr.name}" width="118" truncateToFit="false" bottom="0"
    textAlign="center" />
    <mx:VBox id="controls" visible="false" y="65" right="10" horizontalAlign="right"
    >
    <mx:Button label="X" click="parentDocument.clearPhoto(data)" fontSize="6"
    width="30" height="15" />

  • 'Find' function doesn't work on some HP documents

    For some pdf doc's I downloaded from HP, if I copy some characters from the text and then paste them into the Find box, the characters show up as hieroglyphs (mostly squares) in the Find box. And then actually executing the Find using those characters doesn't work, because it can't find the very word that I copied them from! On top of that, if I manually type a word into the Find box (showing normal letters), it won't find it even though I can see it within the text on the page showing on the screen. Very strange! In documents other than these old HP documents, the Find function works fine.
    I looked into the document properties (menu: File >> Properties >> Fonts) and see that there are 9 fonts that have names I have never heard of before, and those fonts say "(Embedded Subset)" after the font name and "Encoding: Custom" in the font descriptions. There were a few normal fonts listed before these for that document as well.
    Anyone have any idea what is going on?
    - Brad

    It's hard to say without seeing the actual, source content, but given what you are describing, I would venture a guess that the source content is of too poor a quality to OCR reliably and accurately.  To test this theory, after running OCR, identify a term that you can confirm is present, but that the search feature cannot identify.  Then, copy and paste that term into Word or Notepad.  What I expect you will note is that a "0" (zero) has been identified as an "8," and other things of that nature.  OCR processing is garbage in, garbage out, so the source always has to be considered.  Repeat this process across the document to see if experience similar results.
    You don't describe how exactly you are transferring the microfilm "images" to PDF, so it's difficult to say if that process is at issue or could be improved.  I suspect that's contributing to the problem, though.
    Finally, with regard to the degraded image quality, you want to make sure you are selecting "Searchable Image (Exact)" from the OCR dialogue.  ClearScan or any type of downsampling will likely cause or contribute to the type of issue you are describing.  In a situation with low-quality source material, you would not want to use these other options.
    Hope that helps!

  • How does one install non-English character sets for use with the "find" function in Acrabat Pro 11?

    I have pdf files in European languages and want to be able to enter non-English characters in the "find" function. How does one install other character sets for use with Acrobat Pro XI?

    Have you tried applying the update by going to Help>Updates within Photoshop Lightroom?  The update should be using the same licensing?  Did you perhaps customize the installation location?  Finally which operating system are you using?

  • The find function in my calendar is not working.

    I am running your Yosemite on a new MacBook Pro. The find function in calendar has suddenly ceased working. If I search for a name or an event even though I know it exists that name or event is not found.

    Please read this whole message before doing anything.
    This procedure is a test, not a solution. Don’t be disappointed when you find that nothing has changed after you complete it.
    Step 1
    The purpose of this step is to determine whether the problem is localized to your user account.
    Enable guest logins* and log in as Guest. Don't use the Safari-only “Guest User” login created by “Find My Mac.”
    While logged in as Guest, you won’t have access to any of your documents or settings. Applications will behave as if you were running them for the first time. Don’t be alarmed by this behavior; it’s normal. If you need any passwords or other personal data in order to complete the test, memorize, print, or write them down before you begin.
    Test while logged in as Guest. Same problem?
    After testing, log out of the guest account and, in your own account, disable it if you wish. Any files you created in the guest account will be deleted automatically when you log out of it.
    *Note: If you’ve activated “Find My Mac” or FileVault, then you can’t enable the Guest account. The “Guest User” login created by “Find My Mac” is not the same. Create a new account in which to test, and delete it, including its home folder, after testing.
    Step 2
    The purpose of this step is to determine whether the problem is caused by third-party system modifications that load automatically at startup or login, by a peripheral device, by a font conflict, or by corruption of the file system or of certain system caches.
    Please take this step regardless of the results of Step 1.
    Disconnect all wired peripherals except those needed for the test, and remove all aftermarket expansion cards, if applicable. Start up in safe mode and log in to the account with the problem. You must hold down the shift key twice: once when you turn on the computer, and again when you log in.
    Note: If FileVault is enabled in OS X 10.9 or earlier, or if a firmware password is set, or if the startup volume is a software RAID, you can’t do this. Ask for further instructions.
    Safe mode is much slower to start up and run than normal, with limited graphics performance, and some things won’t work at all, including sound output and Wi-Fi on certain models. The next normal startup may also be somewhat slow.
    The login screen appears even if you usually log in automatically. You must know your login password in order to log in. If you’ve forgotten the password, you will need to reset it before you begin.
    Test while in safe mode. Same problem?
    After testing, restart as usual (not in safe mode) and verify that you still have the problem. Post the results of Steps 1 and 2.

  • "Find" command causes freeze

    This seems a little odd. On various pages of the Plain Dealer, like the one I've linked here, executing a simple "find" (to find text on the page) will cause the beach ball.
    I'm using Safari 1.3.1 and I've emptied the cache and trashed preferences. "Find" seems to work fine on other sites where I've tried it.
    Note that if you've never gone to the PD pages you'll hit an initial page that asks your zip code and gender--it's not registration, just a couple questions that I suppose creates a cookie.

    Hi, Bookalaka -
    If Sherlock, or an alias to it, is not in the Apple Menu Items folder (in System Folder), then the Find function (Command-F) will not work. If that is the case, replace that item - move either Sherlock itself, or place an alias to it, into the Apple Menu Items folder.
    Note - if you use Internet Explorer, and want to be able to use the supplemental toolbar icon for Sherlock, then Sherlock itself must be placed in the Apple Menu Items folder (IE does not recognize an alias to it).
    If for some reason you are missing Sherlock completely, you can replace it fairly easily. Look in the System Folder on any OS 9.1 or later Install CD; you'll find it in the Apple Menu Items folder. Just copy it to your hard drive.

  • How do I export a .dwg file so the Search/Find function can be used on it?

    I have some .dwg files that my co-worker exported to PDF. It is crucial for me to have the ability to use the search or "Find" function in Reader. There are 11 different .dwg files exported into an 11 page PDF, but some of the were exported with different properties. I can search on 4 of them, but the other 7 are unsearchable. I believe my co-worker user Autodesk TrueView to export the .dwg files to PDF. So my question is what program I should use (I believe that TrueView is capable of what I am trying to do, but I'm not sure) and how should I set up the the settings before I export it to PDF. Thanks.

    You need to contact Autodesk, almost no one here is likely to be familiar with what Autodesk can or cannot do.
