  • "Find my iPhone does not recognize New iPhone 5

I use my AppleID to "Find my iPhone" successfully on iPhone 4, iPhone4S, iPad, iMac. All show up. New iPhone5 iOS 6.0.2 uses same AppleID in the General iCloud settings, Contacts, email, photostream, safari bookmarks, reminders, notes, are all synced fine. I can even see how much storage is available in my iCloud account on the new iPhone5.  The Problem is that "Find my iPhone" does not recognize the new iPhone 5. Yes location services is turned on. The iPhone5 can find its location in the map app, can find all other devices in "Find my iPhone" just not itself in "Find my iPhone" I tried a hard reset.
    ANY IDEAS?

How about when the passcode is correct but not recognized?
I was prompted to enter a password to unlock the device when I downloaded IOS 7 several months ago.
Entered the password every single day for months, never a problem.
Yesterday I attempted to download the most recent IOS version and I was asked for a passcode before I could do that (my phone was unlocked). Online I found out the passcode is the unlocking password. It did not work and I was unable to use the phone for several minutes after 5 attempts. I just stored the phone and when home I charged it overnight.
This morning I unlocked the phone as usual  and used it without a problem for emails, phone calls. etc.. Now, after not having used it for a while, I am asked for the passcode to unlock it as usual, and although I am sure I entered the right code, it is not recognized. I am unable to unlock my phone, although I have done it for months.
This is not a case of forgotten passcode! And I see it has happened to many others that use 4s and 5s iphones.
i could attempt the iTune connection fix, but it troubles me that all solutions are presented for forgotten pascodes, and in many cases actually the passcodes are not recognized. Which means, it will keep happening unless Apple offers a solution.

  • Is it possible to locate iPad 4G+WiFi location if the services iCloud and Find My iPhone have not been configured.

Hello! My IPAD 4G   Wi Fi was stolen in Kiev, 17.05.2011. Is it possible to locate its location if the services iCloud and Find My iPhone have not been configured.
If it is possible what should I do to find it?
I have already applied to the police. But I also heard that if you contact the company Apple, they can quickly find the iPad police. Is this true?

    No.
Change your iTunes (Apple ID) password along with any other password that was stored in the iPod.  If any passwords are associated with credit cards, contact the CC company and get your card replaced (with a new number).  If any passwords are associated with a bank or any other savings institution, contact them also and discuss approprate action with them.
The "Find my..." function is pretty much useless if the device is in the hands of a thief.  All that is necessary is for the thief to connect to any computer with iTunes and "Restore as new."
The only real protection you have is with the personal information on the device rather than the physical device itself.  This requires action before the device is lost/stolen.  If the device has significant personal information, it should have a strong 8-digit (or longer) password AND be configured for automatic wipe in the event of ten consecutive incorrect password entries.

My phone was stolen, what can I do to recover? He is off then the app "Find My iPhone" is not working. I'm desperate, because not even finished paying and is ma warranty.

For Find My Phone to work, you must first turn it on in Settings > iCloud before the iPhone is stolen, and the iPhone MUST be turned on and connected with the Internet.  If not, it is not possible to locate it.  Report the theft to the police, change all passwords associated with accounts on the iPhone, contact your carrier in case the can blacklist it.

  • "find my iphone" on de-registered device

I restored my iPhone to factory settings and de-registered it from my apple account, is it possible that "find my iphone" is still active?

I removed it from my iCloud account and my Apple support account (in addition to toggling the feature off prior to restoring it).
I turned it into the Verizon recylcing program and they are trying to tell me that I didn't de-activate the feature.

  • IPad stolen.  don't remember if I turned off 'find my iphone' or not

    Please help.
I've researched a bunch but have not been able to find an answer to this situation.
My iPad air was recently lost/believed stolen (I left it in the library and nobody recovered it)
Here are the stats as best I can remember them.
    *     It was running 7.0.5 I believe
    *     I don't know if find my iphone was on.  I DID turn it on when I first got the iPad, but may have turned it off after looking at one of those 'how to gain maximum battery power' sites.
    *     It is a wifi only iPad.
    *     It DID have a pass code lock.
    *     It has not shown up on the find my iphone locator since being lost (lost a week ago today, 3/17/14)
    *     The iPad DOES show up as one of my devices, just 'offline' (does this mean find my iphone is turned on, or just that I happened to register it at one time with find my iphone?)
    *     I have done 'play a sound' 'show a message', etc. but no response that the iPad has ever received it.
Here's the question I can't seem to find an answer to.  I am SURE I turned on find my iphone at least once, but I may have turned it off.
Does the activation still ask you for the appleid and password if you try to reformat the ipad in your own name even though find my iphone might be off?
Will the thief be able to make it his own because I had find my iphone off?
Various posts made it sound like just having OS 7.0 meant you couldn't steal an iPad because of activation, but posts also seem to infer that without find my iphone on, activation isn't working?
So with a passcode in place, but find my iphone off, can they reformat the ipad and make it theirs?
Also, since I had a passcode and the only two wifis I had set up were work and home, will wifi ever come on on it's own in a new area with the passcode on?
Lastly, and I've been trying forever to find the answer to this, if the thief hooks the ipad up to itunes and the computer running itunes is connected to the internet, will the ipad connect to apple's servers first to see if it's 'right'?  I think it must since I always get the 'do you want to sync with this computer' when hooking up to a strange computer.....
Thanks for any help you can give me.  I don't really know what to do right now...since it's been a week I think I'm going to notify the police.
    Mike C.

If the iPad was running iOS 7, the thief/finder will not ever be able to use it.

  • Iphone device not detected

I lost my iPhone 4s and just got a replacement.  When I connected it to my laptop (Windows 7), iTunes recognized it and asked me to register it.  It asked if I wanted to set this up as a new phone or if I wanted to restore the phone from a backup.  I clicked on "Restore" and it wiped out the photos and text messages I had recently stored on the new phone - I was not expecting it to do that.
Is there any way to recover the messages and photos?
Also, now when I connect to my laptop, iTunes will not recognize the iphone.  Nothing shows up under devices, although Windows recognizes it as a portable device and gives me the autoplay options.  What do I need to do to get iTunes to recognize the iphone?

Ok; this should be the steps I did last night. Going to repaste in what I posted before & finsih it so you have it in one post
Before doing anything- BACK UP what you have now to a thumb drive. If you have a password on your windows user account; remove it & reboot before starting- These are the files you need to back up
    C:\Program Files\Common Files\Apple\
    C:\Program Files\iTunes\
    C:\Program Files\iPod\
Plug your iPhone in & back up your photos to a thumb drive or "My Documents"
Depending on what you've already done; you can do this a few different ways; either start here iOS: Device not recognized in iTunes for Windows http://support.apple.com/kb/TS1538  or you can back up & start fresh to make sure that nothing was left out.
Let me say again- back up the Apple folders as well as plugging in your Iphone & backing up your photos & whatever else you can access before starting this. Once you delete; it's gone.
Best advice I can give you is to uninstall ALL apple products- updater; bonjour; quick times; safari-  then be sure to check.to make sure there are no files left- I think this is what our problem was yesterday. Because the very last time I downloaded another fresh copy of Itunes; I made sure everything was gone. We had 3 people trying to get this going since late Monday afternoon & I don't know if they checked to make sure there were no remnants. This was my 1st time at this step
Removing and Reinstalling iTunes, QuickTime, and other software components for Windows XP
Use this link - http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1925 to make sure there are no files left
In most cases removing iTunes and its related components from the Control Panel will remove all supporting files belonging to those programs.  In some rare cases those files may be left behind. After following the previous steps, you should confirm that the following files and folders have been removed and if any are left behind, remove them now:
    C:\Program Files\Bonjour
    C:\Program Files\Common Files\Apple\
    C:\Program Files\iTunes\
C:\Program Files\iPod\     Note: Follow the additional steps at the end of this article if you receive the alert "Cannot delete iPodService.exe: It is being used by another person or program" when trying to delete this folder.
    C:\Program Files\QuickTime\
    C:\Windows\System32\QuickTime
    C:\Windows\System32\QuickTimeVR
How to restart the Apple Mobile Device Service (AMDS) on Windows
    restarting device- http://support.apple.com/kb/TS1567
1- Remove any Windows user passwords & reboot
2- back up locations listed to thumbdrive
3- remove all traces of Apple products
    4. reboot
    5. check folders listed above to make sure everything is removed. If not; delete & reboot
    6. Install iTunes
    7. Reboot
    8. attach phone; give it a few minutes to install drivers
    9. Open Itunes & walk away 5 minutes. I suggest walking away because when I opened itunes; the device was not shown; I got up to answer a text & when I came back; it was showing. ~SMH!
    10. You may need to install drivers- I was finding the iphone listed under imaging devices in the device manager. There is no driver CD; so don't go nuts looking for one. It would be too easy to just add a driver at Apple that nontech people can download & install..
    11. ADD the correct driver- You will have to go back to the device manager to find the Iphone; then right click it & reinstall driver using the link below. For some reason; it would not work with the default driver the 1st few times. Once again; I stepped away for a few & guess what? Iphone shows up in itunes. I wonder how many people are not waiting long enough for them to pair?
iOS: Device not recognized in iTunes for Windows
    http://support.apple.com/kb/TS1538
Update the Apple Mobile Device Driver
Right-click the Apple Mobile Device entry in Device Manager and choose Update Driver Software.
Select  "Browse my computer for driver software."
Select "Let me pick from a list of device drivers on my computer."
Click the Have Disk button. Note: If the Have Disk option is not present, choose a device category such as Mobile Phone or Storage Device if listed, and then click next. The Have Disk button should then appear.
Click the Have Disk button. Note: If the Have Disk option is not present, choose a device category such as Mobile Phone or Storage Device if listed, and then click next. The Have Disk button should then appear.
Click the Browse button and navigate to  C:\Program Files\Common Files\Apple\Mobile Device Support\Drivers.
Note: If using a 64-bit version of Windows Vista or Windows 7, navigate to  C:\Program Files (x86)\Common Files\Apple\Mobile Device Support\Drivers.
Double-click the "usbaapl" file. (This file will be called "usbaapl64" if you have a 64-bit version of Windows. If you don't see" usbaapl64" here, or if there is no Drivers folder, look in  C:\Program Files\Common Files\Apple\Mobile Device Support\Drivers instead).
Click Open in the Have Disk window. Then, click Next and then Click Finish. Windows will install the driver.
Note: During installation, if a message appears stating that the software you are installing "has not passed Windows Logo testing," click Continue Anyway to continue installing the drivers.
Good luck everyone & be careful with your iphone backup in itunes because there is an issue where Windows is putting a password on it & people are losing their backup. Get into the habit of backing your phone up so that you have multiple backups

  • Activate Lost mode when device not registered?

    Hello All,
they say we live n' learn !
I lost my beloved iPhone4 yesterday...& have since found out all about 'find my iPhone'  &  'Lost mode'...thin is my 'device' was not registered to iCloud !!
so my question is....is there anyway possible of 'registering it' whilst I do not have it ?  Or anyway it can be activated remotely into 'lost mode' without it being a registered device ?
    ThankYou

Activation Lock, Lost Mode, Remote Wipe are all  iCloud-based features.
No iCloud, no feature. And yeah, the registration needs to be done on the device.

  • Find my iPhone- device disconnected?

My brother's iPod touch 5th gen is lost. I went on Find my iPhone and his computer is on there, but not his iPod touch because it is not connected to the internet. He said that if I find it he will let me keep it for a bit so i really need help finding it! Since there's a GPS in all new iDevices why can't it be found when offline? Well, if you have any suggestioins, let me know.
[Side note] The wifi he uses requires a password login every 12 hrs, so its unlikely it will automatically reconnect again.

Only iOS devices with cellular radios have GPS. No iPods have cellular radios.
For location the iPod uses the location of nearby wifi routers that are in Apple's database. You do not have to be connected to the network/router to use that router's location.
Even it it has GPS, it would still need a way to communicate and phones and iPads with celular radios can use their cellular data connection.
I suspect you will never find/recovery your iPod
    - If you previously turned on FIndMyiPod on the iPod in Settings>iCloud and wifi is on and connected go to iCloud: Find My iPhone, sign in and go to FIndMyiPhone. If the iPod has been restored it will never show up.
    - You can also wipe/erase the iPod and have the iPod play a sound via iCloud.
    - If not shown, then you will have to use the old fashioned way, like if you lost a wallet or purse.
    - Change the passwords for all accounts used on the iPod and report to police
    - There is no way to prevent someone from restoring the iPod (it erases it) using it unless you had iOS 7 on the device. With iOS 7, one has to enter the Apple ID and password to restore the device.
    - Apple will do nothing without a court order
