Find number of external files?

I have a swf loading mp3s from an external folder. The number of mp3s will vary from time to time. Is there a way to determine how many mp3 files there are in the external folder... without the use of a data file such as .xml? Many thanks in advance!

Will you be implementing this on the internet? If so, Flash cannot query the server for that information, so you would need some other file to manage getting that information in any case... if not an xml file, then a PHP (or similar) file that can get such information and echo it back to Flash as data.

I had to restore from backup to a new hard drive, and only have part of my Adobe Photoshop installation. Is there a way to find the serial number in these files so that I can reinstall the full version? I have only part of the documentation so this is the best way I see to get the full version back.

you did purchase your product from these firms like Amazon, so you didn't get a serial number, only a code with which you can request a serial number from Adobe. Please have a look at http://helpx.adobe.com/x-productkb/global/find-serial-number.html. (Start here: How did you purchase your product?)
The following part, so I just see at least, ceased to exist on my Adobe website, everything takes place in the link from above. I leave it as an info yet, it might still fit for you. For this purpose, please click your way through to your Adobe Store and find the button "Get Serial Number". Fill in the form and after a while you will get the real serial number.
Additionally you should have a look at Adobe's database, to see what's stored/saved about your accounts. Here you will find general infos about your Adobe Account.

I'm trying to drag my files from finder to an external hard drive--I just get the universal "do not" symbol. How do I do this?

1.youd need a program like PARAGON to write to a NTFS drive from your Mac.
2. IF you can offload that data onto your PC or other computer, THEN format same in Mac OSX extended journaled, you can just drag and drop files to it.
3. To show the HD on desktop go to Finder > preferences > General > check on "external disks" and "hard disks"
4. The "EASY" option really is to get another HD for use with your Mac, unless of course you need specific files off that drive ON your Mac.
$70 for a good cheap quality 1TB external USB HD.
5. FAT32 and (better option>) EXFAT can read/write to BOTH Mac and PC (however time machine will not use either)

Need help to find link to external AS2 file

I have purchased an image gallery program that works fine but I am struggling to make a very minor modification. I have asked the author for assistance but previous requests have met with no response so I am also asking my question here.
This program has most of its logic in an external AS2 file. I have made some small changes to this file and want to save it under a new name. However, that would also require me to change the reference to the external AS2 file from within the fla file. That's where my problem lies. I can't find any code in the fla that contains such a reference.
If I try to publish an swf without this file in the required location it causes a compiler error thus proving that there must be a reference somewhere to that file. However, doing a search for this AS2 file in the 'current document' when viewing the fla file in Flash CS4 produces no results. Where else could this reference be hidden?

Unfortunately, the Movie Explorer window does not show class references of the type under discussion. I guess an alternative way to reference this external file might be via an include statement in an action, which would make it a lot easier to find than when it is hidden in the properties box of a library symbol.
However, the Movie Explorer appears to be a useful facility for finding and searching timeline actions so thanks for bringing it to my attention. I used it for a brief exploration of another fla file with lots of code scattered all over the place.

The file name must contain a suffix containing the date in yyyymmdd format. In cases where the file stored more than once per day, a sequence number must also be provided within the filename.

I assume you are using Windows. Try to write a batch file so that that would look for the ibot name when ever its finds rename the file name as required.

Adding word into a list from a external file

Hello,
I am making a boggle- like game that utilizes an external wordlist to check to see if a user's word is actually a word.
How should I best check to see this? Currently I import the external file into a linkedlist at the beginning of the program-- but this takes a ridiculous amount of time. Is there any more effective way?

Which one "takes a ridiculous amount of time"? Reading the list or finding a word?
If you have a large list of words, reading them from a file takes as much time as it takes to read it and store the words. You might wanna use a buffered reader. As we cannot guess your code, there is no way to see, if anything extreme slowing is going on there.
If finding words takes long, well, scanning a linked list each time to find a word might take some time. Use a HashSet instead. If your number of words is to big for your memory and will be swapped out very often, think about indexing and split files. Again, as we cannot guess your code, it's difficult to tell what is eating up time.

Reading the Blob and writing it to an external file in an xml tree format

Most probably the column or table may be having more than 5 records and hence we need to read the corresponding blob content and write to an external file.

If there's a continuing issue, stay with the same thread, don't just ask the same question again and again, it's really Pi**es people off and causes confusion as not everyone will be familiar with what answers you've already had. You're just wasting people's time by doing that.
As already mentioned before, convert your BLOB to a CLOB and then to XMLTYPE where it can be treated as XML and written out to file in a variety of ways including the way I showed you on the other thread.
You really seem to be struggling to get the worst possible way to work.

It says I have over 150 gigs of video on my hard drive. But I have gone through and deleted almost all of what shows up, still it says there is roughly the same amount on the hard drive. Where are these files? I want to delete them so I can have my hard drive clear.

How to open and read an external file in Dashboard widget?

I am new to Dashboard widgets and also Javascript. I have written a widget that needs to open and read a file on the local file system. I have searched a lot and have not found any documentation or reference on the internet as to how to do this.
I know it can be done since there is a checkbox in the widget attributes that says "Allow External File Access".

Sorry, I understood you to say you had the whole CS6 suite, which includes Illustrator.
As far as finding out what the files are, sometimes you can look at them in a text editor to figure this out. See below; the, Creator Tool line. Not every software package makes it this easy, though.

Essentially, the bare issue is that you have a 500GB hard drive with only 10GB free. That is not sufficient to run the system properly. The two options you have are to move/remove files to another location, or to install a larger hard drive (eg 2TB). Drive space has nothing to do with SMC firmware, and usually large media files are to blame.
My first recommendation is this: download and run the free OmniDiskSweeper. This will identify the exact size of all your folders - you can drill down into the subfolders and figure out where your largest culprits are. For example, you might find that your Pictures folder contains both an iPhoto Library and copies that you've brought in from a camera but are outside the iPhoto Library structure. Or perhaps you have a lot of purchased video content in iTunes.
If you find files that you KNOW you do not need, you can delete them. Don't delete them just because you have a backup, since if the backup fails, you will lose all your copies.
Don't worry about "cleaners" for now - they don't save much space and can actually cause problems. Deal with the large file situation first and see how you get on.
Let us know what you find out, and if you manage to get your space back.

I just got a new Imac, and downloaded files from my old PC. Now, when I go to Finder, I have 1500 files in an area called developer. What is this, and can they be deleted? There are also 78 files listed as Other! Most of these files I do not recognize.

Did you use the Migration Assistant to help set up the new iMac using some of the files in the older PC? Some likely won't mean much, unless you have applications that can use or convert them. There's also a way to use the software Time Machine to import data files from an external or another computer, so you may have used that, too.
Hopefully someone with experience in a similar issue will reply...
