Find out what is swapping

Hello together,
actually I've a swapping problem on one of our database server. It is a Oracle Linux 6 Server on which an Grid Infrastructure 11.2.0.3 and 5 Database Instances are running. The database instances are that versions:
- 1x 10.2.0.5 with 3 databases
- 2x 11.2.0.2 with 8 databases
- 2x 11.2.0.3 with 15 databases
Actually the Swap Space of the server is used by 51%. Ok, I know, it isn't critical, but it is so full since 8-9 hours?
So now I'm trying to find out, which process is using so much Swap. I'm trying with top and sot by Swap usage (Shift+o and then p):
top - 11:52:18 up 499 days, 18:50,  2 users,  load average: 2.23, 1.80, 2.35
Tasks: 2304 total,   1 running, 2303 sleeping,   0 stopped,   0 zombie
Cpu(s):  0.8%us,  0.3%sy,  0.0%ni, 94.7%id,  4.2%wa,  0.0%hi,  0.0%si,  0.0%st
Mem:  264271652k total, 255592616k used,  8679036k free,   303276k buffers
Swap: 33554424k total, 17083800k used, 16470624k free, 228222456k cached

OK, there are some oracle Processes which are using the Swap but now I want to know why? Is there any possibillity to have a view which of that oracle processes or which database with which statement is using so much swap?
I'm also using Enterprise Manager Cloud Control and all of the databases and the server are assigned to that. So maybe there is some analyzing possibility?
Thanks a lot and regards,
Dave

OK, thanks first for your quick answer. To your first linked document 1295478.1:

How I look for swap space I know but how can I now find out, why the swap space is used? OK top tells me, there are processes with command "oracle" which are filling the swap, but why? How can I find out, what these processes are doing?
To the second document 1931980.1:
Here is something strange. I look into top to have a PID which has much swap usage, for example:
top - 12:52:16 up 499 days, 19:50,  2 users,  load average: 7.33, 6.34, 5.61
Tasks: 2339 total,   5 running, 2334 sleeping,   0 stopped,   0 zombie

Mem:  264271652k total, 257963436k used,  6308216k free,   321940k buffers
Swap: 33554424k total, 16966068k used, 16588356k free, 228374224k cached

26886 ora112    15   0 35.3g  15m  13m S  0.0  0.0   0:00.12  35g oracle
So I looked for 28668 as described in the document:
[root]# echo $((`grep Swap /proc/26886/smaps | awk '{ print $2; }' | tr '\n' '+'`0))
0
Nothing? Why are top and the command are telling different things? But the commands from the first document showed me, that there is the usage. Maybe zombie processes?

  • Is there a way of finding out what has been accessed on my MacBook Pro whilst in the possession of an apple authorised service centre?

    Hi Guys,
I'm a bit new to this discussion group thing although I've been using Macintosh computers for many years (showing my age).
I handed my MacBook Pro to be repaired at an authorised apple service centre. When I handed it in they said they needed to keep hold of it to run some diagnostics and requested my password. I've owned various models of mac for the the past 17 years and this is the first hardware problem I have encountered, hence I have never bothered to set up user accounts.
As I live in quite a remote part of Sweden I am paranoid that some untrusted technician is going to make a copy of my music (11,000 tracks) or share some of my personal information (scanned copies of my birth certificate, passport, certificates, photos, etc.) on the web. Is there a way of finding out what activity has taken place whilst they've had it in their possession?
I appreciate any advice you guys can offer.
    Thanks!
PS: I've already thought about the 'recently opened' menu and The machine in question is a MacBook Pro 17" (2011) running OS X 10.6.8 (need Rosetta).

I am paranoid that some untrusted technician is going to make a copy of my music (11,000 tracks) or share some of my personal information (scanned copies of my birth certificate, passport, certificates, photos, etc.) on the web.
If you put your info into the computer and hand it to another, you have to assume they will copy everything.
Why are you putting scanned copies of valuable identity information into a computer than can be hacked, stolen, lost or compromised by a dirty tech?
    Have you lost your mind?
Is there a way of finding out what activity has taken place whilst they've had it in their possession?
No. The tech would just deny it if he did, or tell the truth which the answer would be "NO" in either case.
The employer won't ask that sort of questions without solid proof, less they make a enemy of the employee and/or risk being sued for defamation of character.
It's not like they bother to have a team of people watching over his shoulder that he doesn't stick a USB thumb drive of your data into his pocket to take home.
I am paranoid that some untrusted technician is going to make a copy of my music (11,000 tracks)
If it's iTunes music, it has your personal ID embedded into the song files. Most IT techs know this though.
I appreciate any advice you guys can offer.
Too late now, all you can do is not worry about it.
Take your personal info out of the machine and if you need it, burn cd/dvd copies, a few USB thumb drives, Iron Keys or self encrypting external storage drives with key and/or keypad.

If looking at the summary tab in iTunes, what specifically is taking up space?
If looking in Settings > General > About on the device, what specifically is taking up space?
You have the device in front of you, so you can determine what is taking up space.  We only have the information provided by the user to go on.

I have files that may have been created in various versions of Illustrator. We need to be able to open them, but all we have is CS6 suite. I have called and been told that "technicians at adobe" could perform a paid service to find out what the files were created in and get them to be useable in InDesign 6, but I'd need an email address that was registered to our software to give the help desk person. After finding the correct email address, different adobe help number people told me to come here to ask as there is no phone support. Can anyone get me to an adobe technician that can provide a price quote for finding out what created these files and for getting them converted? Thanks.

Sorry, I understood you to say you had the whole CS6 suite, which includes Illustrator.
As far as finding out what the files are, sometimes you can look at them in a text editor to figure this out. See below; the, Creator Tool line. Not every software package makes it this easy, though.

  • 11.1.2- Need to find out what reports are being executed by a user

    Hi,
We have financial reports executed from workspace. In essbase session , only the user id is displayed and the Request type- mdxreport is displayed. We also tried searching the log for Financial report didnt find anything relevant.
Is there a way to find out what reports are being executed by the user.
    Thanks in advance.
    Regards,
    Saumya

STAT will give you the information for a limited period of time and is limited to the server which you are logged onto yourself. Beyond 24 hours it is of even less use even if you change the selection screen values.
If you want it for a period way back into the past, then you need to use ST03N.
There are at least 2 dependencies and 1 confusion:
1 dependency) The length of period is determined by the size (length) of the file. You can change this in ST03N (default 50MB) via the menu settings.
2 dependency) The stat collector jobs need to be scheduled to write the information to ST03N (once per hour is a legal requirement in some non-banana republic countries).
1 confusion) There is an obscure function which converts a report submit to a transaction name (there is not much difference anyway) and an even more obsure one which filters what ST03N will record and therefore whether you can read it. You can (un)filter these things away if you search the SAP Marketplace for the term "MONI".
What is of particular value from this control is that you can even detect a submission of an abap which only existed temporarily.
Also note that having this information is potentially very powerfull with respect to the users (some of them are human too), so you should expose and use it responsibly.
You should also ensure that only responsible users / auditors have access to S_TOOLS_EX.

Sounds like you want your administrative password on the Mac so can install? For starters, you'll want to ask in a Mac forum. I know you used to be able to reset it using the install disk but haven't tried that for years.

I have just bought a new iMac and want to get all my itunes library etc on it.  However, apparently i have reached my limit of 5 authorisations, which is entirely possible as I have had a number of iphones, Macair and ipads, some of which I either no longer own or are no longer functioning.  How do I find out what devices are authorised and then deauthorise any that I don't use any more - given that they may not even work!

    Welcome to the Apple Community.
You can't de-authorise just the computers you no longer have access to.
Your only option is to de-authorise all your computers and then re-authorise those you wish to be authorised. You can do this by logging into your account settings in iTunes on your computer (Store > View My ID) and selecting the option to de-authorise all.
Please note however, you are only permitted to do this once in each 12 month period, therefore you would be better de-authorising your computers before you lose access to them. you can do this from the 'Store' menu in iTunes.

  • I have two iPhones on my iTunes account. How can I find out what apps go to which phone?

I have two iPhones on my iTunes account. How can I find out what apps go to which phone?

I don't believe that there is a way to do that.  I would sugest using automatic downloads to keep your apps synced across both phones.  You might also want to note that just about any app you have ever download will be available for free download via icloud.
Wish I could be more help.

  • How can I find out what apple IDs are tied to an email address

We are trying to set up FaceTime and got the verification error on the email address.  We went in to the Apple ID account and when we verify the email address, it tells us that it's tied to another AppleID.  My daughter has 3 other AppleIDs and we've checked each one of them and the email address is not tied to any of them.
How can we find out what apple ID is tied to this email address?
We have used the "Forgot my Apple ID" function and used all 3 of the different email addresses she's used on the accounts and when we access the one that says there's a duplicate, it takes us to the account and it's the one with the email address that I noted above.
    Any thougts or help?
    Thanks!

    Itunes limit includes computers.
