Find Photos by capture time?

I'm having a bit of trouble finding photos by capture time. It seems that catalog:findPhotos() works on captureDate, but not time.
I have a photo that I know the date is 2010-11-28 02:10:00 - I can do a getAllPhotos() and dump the capture time to verify.
This works:
local catalog = import 'LrApplication'.activeCatalog()
    local foundPhotos = catalog:findPhotos {
         searchDesc = {
                 criteria = "captureTime",
                 operation = "in",
                 value = "2010-11-27",
                 value2 = "2010-11-29",
This doesn't:
         searchDesc = {
                  criteria = "captureTime",
                  operation = "=",
                  value = "2010-11-28",
nor does:
                 value = "2010-11-28T02:10:00",
or does any other variant I've tried, and I've tried all the sqllite query formats for date time. In fact, I can't find any solution that a "=" criteria works for captureTime.
This is pretty big for my plugin... can anyone help? Please?

Still no luck.
Here's what I'm trying (with a different image, so the dates are now different than my original post):
    local foundPhotos = catalog:findPhotos {
         searchDesc = {
                 criteria = "camera", -- searches Camera Model
                 operation = "==",
                 value = "Canon EOS 7D",
                 criteria = "captureTime",
                 operation = "==",
                 value = 294962994,
             combine = "intersect",
for x = 1, #foundPhotos do
        local photo = foundPhotos[x];
        log("\traw dateTimeOriginal: " .. (photo:getRawMetadata("dateTimeOriginal") or null));
end
if I run this, I get 9 entries. here's the last 3:
[1676] ErisApp TRACE  raw dateTimeOriginal: 299806234
[1676] ErisApp TRACE  raw dateTimeOriginal: 294962994
[1676] ErisApp TRACE  raw dateTimeOriginal: 294962966
Camera model does match, so I know at least part of the search critiera is working correctly.
Surely I'm doing something wrong?
Thanks for your help!

  • Cant find photos on time machine

    My hard drive crashed and now is fixed. I can't find photo library from time machine to retrieve them. I had about 700 photos for 08 and cant find them.

    Were the photos in iPhoto? You should be able to open iPhoto then enter Time Machine and browse your iPhoto library for any date for which you have a backup. If the missing photos are not there, are there other photos there or is your entire iPhoto library mia?

  • Capture times losing fractions of a second

    Hi
    I am using LR 5.7, Camera Raw 8.7, on a Mac running OSx version 10.10 and have noticed that recently I can no longer sort images correctly on Capture Time.  When I look at the XMP file, I find that the capture time is always recorded with the decimal part set to 00 whereas in older versions the tenths and hundredths were retained
    This is very inconvenient when shooting sport with motor drive as I am getting batches of 7 or 8 images which all appear to have the same time, so I cannot rely on the order being correct - even using filename sorting is no good to me as I often shoot with two bodies.
    Does anyone know whether there are plans to restore this?
    Thanks
    Chris

    Thanks for this; whilst preparing data for the Dropbox, I have realised that it is not quite as bad as I thought!  The photos which show the problem are only from one of my cameras.  Yesterday I realised after loading the pictures into LR that I had not adjusted the clock on one camera for the end of daylight saving in Europe at the end of October, so I selected all photos from that camera and adjusted their Capture time by 59 minutes to bring them into line with the other camera;  I suspect that it is at this stage that the fractions of a second are lost as there is no place for fractions of a second on that menu. I think that this section of the xmp file sows that transaction:
      exif:DateTimeOriginal="2014-12-06T15:42:07"
      exif:PixelXDimension="4256"
      exif:PixelYDimension="2832"
      dc:format="image/x-nikon-nef"
      xmp:CreatorTool="Ver.1.02"
      xmp:ModifyDate="2014-12-06T16:41:07.82"
      xmp:CreateDate="2014-12-06T16:41:07.82"
      xmp:Rating="2"
      xmp:MetadataDate="2014-12-07T22:21:19Z"
      aux:SerialNumber="2028503"
      aux:LensInfo="700/10 2000/10 28/10 28/10"
      aux:Lens="70.0-200.0 mm f/2.8"
      aux:LensID="119"
      aux:ImageNumber="63631"
      aux:ApproximateFocusDistance="4294967295/1"
      photoshop:DateCreated="2014-12-06T15:42:07"
      photoshop:SidecarForExtension="NEF"
    I find it interesting exif does not seem to have the fraction, whereas xmp does, but photoshop:DateCreated seems to be the one used in sorting and has lost the .82
    Given this further information, I presume that a RAW file and xmp may no longer be appropriate? it is easily reproduced by taking a copy of an existing xmp and then adjusting the Creation time of the image and comparing the "before" and "after" xmp. The photoshop:DateCreated record will have lost its fractions of a second which I believe is a bug.
    Thanks for pointing me in the right direction to some extent; having adjusted my cameras to be in sync, at least I know this is a problem which can only upset me twice a year!

  • Can I change Capture time/date globally

    I have shots from a trip done with two different cameras, however the time stamps are different by one day and one hour.  I would like to globally change the creation date and time on one of the cameras in the Metadata, or perhaps change one and sync with the others.  I don't see how this is possible, but maybe there is another program that can do this.
    thanks,  kb

    The Metadata > Edit Capture Time command can adjust a set of photos by the same amount of time:
    1. Use the Library Filter bar to search for all the photos taken with just one of the cameras, by filtering in the Metadata browser for Camera or Camera Serial Number.
    2. Make sure you're sorting photos by Capture Time (down in the tool bar, View > Tool Bar).  Select all the photos from the trip.
    3. Do MetaData > Edit Capture Time.
    4. Select Adjust To A Specified Date And Time.
    5. The Original Time field will show the capture time of the most-selected photo.  Change the Corrected Time by one day and one hour.
    6. Click Change All -- this will change all of the selected photos by one day and one hour.

  • Create smart collection by capture time?

    Is it possible to create a smart collection which can find images by capture time?  Like I would like to find all images in my catalog taken between 10pm and 11pm.

    Lightrooom doesn't support time based Smart Collections and I don't recall seeing a third party plugin that does it either.

  • Problem exporting metadata after changing capture time

    Hello, I've an odd problem with Lightroom (both 1.3 and 1.4).
    I've all my digital camera's photos organised with Lightroom. There was no problem until I tried to change some photo's capture time.
    In the beginning, the capture time shown by Windows' explorer matched with the one in Lightroom.
    But when I changed some photo's capture time, and then saved the new metadata information to the file... the capture time shown by explorer was two hours later than the hour in Lightroom... it's making my crazy.
    In addition I detected some things:
    - If I told Lightroom to read the file's metadata the issue stayed: the computer showing, for example, 14:00, and Lightroom 12:00.
    - If I exported a photo (Lightroom 12:00) the new file also shows 14:00.
    First, I thought it could be a problem caused by the timezone (GMT+1) and the Summer's time in Europe (I live in Spain). (It makes 2 hours...).
    But the big problem arrived when I discovered that, If I add a tag to the photos, the archive in the computer changes [I've marked that metadata is written automatically]... ¡and shows the correct time! So, it seems that, each time I change a photo's time, I'll need to add and then remove a tag...
    Does it have any sense?
    I would be very happy if someone could help me. Thank you very much. And sorry for my english.

    I'm coming completely crazy...
    without changing again the capture time (I won't use that feature again!) now it happens that some of my photos (it seems that they are the last hundreds photos i've taken) show an incorrect time in Lightroom, now one houre more than the real time.
    The time in Lightroom is incorrect, but Windows' file shows a correct time. I've done nothing unusual...
    What should I do? Stop using Lightroom? I liked it...

  • Find photos with matching capture times?

    I've been using Lightroom as a way to develop RAW images for sometime but I have only recently started to use it as an organizer in a serious way. I've transferred 25000+ photos from various Photoshop Elements catalogs into one Lightroom (2.6) catalog.
    Due to the way I imported from Elements, I have a number a versions of the same photo - for example: DSC4041.JPG and DSC4041_edited.JPG.
    I would like to focus my attention on photos that have the same capture time and do some tidying up of the new catalog. While I can sort by capture time which would put these "duplicates" together, 25000 photos is a bit many to glance through.
    I cannot discover a way to filter the photos to show just the near duplicates. I can use the Stack by capture time to create stacks of photos with the same capture time but then I cannot discover a way to persuade Lightroom to show me only stacked photos?
    Any suggestions?

    Thanks for this suggestion. My folder heirarchy is already organized by date so I could do what you suggest - but it still basically involves looking at each day and effectively glancing (however briefly) at too many shots.
    I've decided instead that I will hunt down duplicates or near duplicates in the file system itself - remove what should go and then ask Lightroom to resync the folder heirarchy which should remove the duplictes. I always write metadata changes directly to the photos and I have backups of the catalogs and the photos should my approach create problems.

  • LR5 Batch rename all photos to CAPTURE DATE+CAPTURE TIME+ORIGINAL FILENAME

    Hello there,
    Does anyone know of a way to get LR5 to batch rename all it’s photos to CAPTURE DATE+CAPTURE TIME+ORIGINAL FILENAME?
    I know the data is in there somewhere but my DATE+ORIGINAL FILENAME import rename preset has named all our photos with the date photos were imported not created (eeek!)
    Thanks in advance for any input,

    Beware: such app is best used *before* importing.
    If you rename (outside Lightroom) after importing, your files will go missing and you'll have to re-link (or god forbid: re-import). Maybe that will be OK with you, and maybe it won't..
    Also, such app has no idea what the original filename was, so in this case it would not do what the OP wants.

  • How to reorganize folders and photos based on image capture time

    I made the mistake of not carefully importing pictures from iPhoto and now have a bit of a mess. My photos show up in the iPhoto Library folder with the year/month/day (when viewing the Lightroom navigator) but then they seem in almost random order. Lightroom doesn't show them under any year/month/date. Is there any way to get Navigator to organize them like it organizes my new imports ? (YYYY/MM/DD etc). I may or may not have lost much of my iPhoto metadata. I was hoping Lightroom could just go through all the pictures (mostly JPG's) and just use the capture time to build it's database.
    I have one additional issue which is when I moved machines, Lightroom seems to have bad meta-data for many of my pictures. It's possible that i just put these photos in the wrong physical directory but again, I was hoping I could get Lightroom to just scan the image capture time and put the pictures back where they belong.
    Ben

    do other kinds of files ever show up in that folder or just those pdf files?
    If the latter then it should be pretty simple. make a workflow consisting of a single action "print finder items" (or "print images") and save the workflow as a plugin for folder actions. then attach this folder action to the folder in question. to do that control-click on that folder in finder and go to more->attach a folder action.

  • How to find photo in time capsule

    Is it easier finding a deleted photo in time capsule using aperture, than iphoto?
    Considering buying aperture

    Is it easier finding a deleted photo in time capsule using aperture, than iphoto?
    Considering buying aperture
    No. Aperture works just ltke iPhoto as far as trying to go back and find photos that were deleted.
    You must go back in time to the point where the photos were still on your computer and then restore the entire iPhoto library as a separate library, keeping your current library as well. Then, open iPhoto using the "restored" library, browse to find the photos that you want and export them to the desktop.
    Then, open iPhoto again using your current library, and import the photos from the desktop back into the current library.  When you are sure that you have everything back in the current library, you can delete the old library and that you restored, and the exported items on the desktop since you no longer need these copies.

  • Canon S100 Photo Capture Time Correct, but Video Capture Time Is Wrong

    I have a Canon S100 and just started importing photos and video into my LR 4.3 catalog. I convert RAW to DNG, and the Capture Time on the photos in LR is correct. However, the video Capture Time is shifted forward exactly 8 hours. I know how to correct the video Capture Time, but is there anything I can do to stop this from happening in the first place?
    I looked at what the metadata looks like in Bridge.
    PHOTO:
    Date Created = Correct Capture Time
    Date File Modified = The time I imported the file into LR.
    VIDEO:
    Date Created = Capture Time + 8 hours
    Date File Modified = Correct Capture Time
    Thanks in advance for any help you can provide!

    In general, LR doesn't know how to read video metadata.  It uses the file's date-modified (as set by the operating system) for filtering, sorting, and pre-populating the Metadata > Edit Capture Time dialog, but it uses the file's date-created (as set by the operating system) to display in the grid view.
    So you might look for a file utility that lets you set the file's date-created to be the same as the file's date-modified (note that on Windows, at least, copying a file changes the date-created but preserves the date-modified).

  • Sorting combined photos from two cameras by capture time (chronologicaly)

    I have a group of photos shot by two cameras (Nikon D2x + Nikon D200) and after import when I sort by capture time the photos are in about 75% the correct chronological order but at least 25% are out of order (when checking the metadata). This is a huge issue because I shoot weddings with multiple photographers but display/print all photos in chronological order. Why does the sort by capture time not work correctly?

    It works correctly for me, but others have had similar trouble.
    Do a search of the forum. Someone found that setting the time of one camera forward by 13 hours and then back fixed the problem for them.
    It's unclear if the trouble is caused by daylight savings time, or a problem with the metadata or what. There are a few known bugs with the time system in LR. I have a 20D and 5D, and they always sort correctly when I remember to sync the in-camera clocks!
