Finder suddenly quits and restarts

I have an early 2008 MacPro-10GB memory. Recently switched out two of the drives and decided to try a mirrored RAID setup with 2 3TB Seagate Barracuda drives as the boot set (using Lion 10.7.2). Ever since, I have had random episodes where the finder quits, everything closes and then the finder comes back up and is ready to go but all my programs have been shut down in the process. It can happen as often as four times an hour. I don't lose more than a couple of minutes of work but if I'm iChatting, I suddenly lose the connection or scanning stops or printing stops. Should I not have tried to set up the RAID?

Launch the Console application by entering the first few letters of its name into a Spotlight search. If that doesn’t work, then in the Finder, press the key combination shift-command-U. The application is in the folder that opens.
Step 1
Enter "windowserver" (without the quotes) in the “Filter” text field. Post the messages from the time of the last crash, if any – the text, please, not a screenshot.
Step 2
Still in the Console window, look under System Diagnostic Reports and User Diagnostic Reports for crash logs. Select the most recent one of each and post the contents – again, not a screenshot. For privacy’s sake, I suggest you edit out the “Anonymous UUID,” a long string of letters, numbers, and dashes in the header of the report, if it’s present (it may not be.) Please don't post shutdownStall or hang reports.

  • "The Microsoft Exchange Administrator has made a change that requires you quit and restart Outlook" in Exchange 2013

In Exchange 2013, Outlook finds a new connection point made up of the user’s mailbox GUID + @ + the domain portion of the user’s primary SMTP address. This change makes
it much less likely that users will see the dreaded message “Your administrator has made a change to your mailbox.”
    http://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/library/dd298114(v=exchg.150).aspx
Although the error message in the topic has been already improved a lot in Exchange 2013, the users may still encounter them in some specific scenarios. We have collected them and let’s discuss them in this thread.
    Symptom
    =======================================
    Consider the following scenario:
Exchange 2013 was installed for a migration from Exchange 2007/2010.
The legacy Exchange server is removed after successful migration.
Exchange 2013 may be updated to Exchange 2013 SP1.
Some users were being randomly prompted with a popup in their outlook client with the following message when connecting with Exchange 2013 server:
“The Microsoft Exchange Administrator has made a change that requires you quit and restart Outlook”
    Cause
    =======================================
The issue may be caused due to Public Folders.
The msExchHomePublicMDB attribute on Exchange 2013 databases was set to deleted legacy public folder object.
    Solution
    =======================================
Removed the Public Folder from all the Exchange
2013 Databases. To do it, we can use ADSIedit.msc and remove the arrtibute - msExchHomePublicMDB from all the Databases:
    1. Open ADSIEdit.
    2. Connect to the Configuration container.3.
    Expand Configuration, expand CN=Configuration,DC=Domain,DC=com.4. Expand CN=Services -> CN=Microsoft Exchange -> CN=Domain -> CN=Administrative Groups -> CN=Exchange
Administrative Group -> CN=Databases.5. In the right hand pane you will see a list of databases.6.
Right-click the listed database object -> Properties.7. Check whether the msExchHomePublicMDB value is set to an unavailable value. If you see reference to the old database,
please clear the value.8. Click OK.9. Check the rest of the databases to make sure
that they are not populated in the same way.

  • My Firefox freezes every so often and when it freezes, it stays frozen for a half hour or so. No matter how many times I quit and restart it, it still freezes as soon as it opens up and I can't click anything except the quit button. Why?

I am on FF and it suddenly freezes. The window says that it is not responding and it doesn't start to respond again. So I quit and open it up again. It loads all the basic images and then freezes again and stops responding. I try over and over again to quit and restart it, but it never responds and I have to swith over to using Internet Explorer when FF does not respond. Why does it do this?

    Thank you so much!
I didn't think the first page would help me because I could still add, delete and edit my bookmarks, then restart the browser and it would've saved the changes. Also, I didn't think the second page would help me because my browser didn't have any of the symptoms listed. The problem I had wasn't with adding, deleting, or editing the bookmarks. I simply couldn't organize my bookmarks in a certain folder because the bookmarks would jump around when I tried to move them. However, I looked down the second link's page and found a section titled "Problems limited to bookmarks". I did what the first sentence told me to and it allowed me to FINALLY organize that folder!
    Thanks again!

  • Weird quit and restart!

    Hi,
I've just started using MainStage, and plan on using it LIVE. I was building a concert today, with about 16 patches, when something very strange happened. After editing a patch, I hit full screen, and my computer restarted!
Has this ever happened before to anyone of you guys?

I've had that happen maybe once, in the over than 100 times I used it.
Use the console application and look for the time and date that weird quit and restart occurred. The console application is in the Applications -> Utilities -> console, look thru the system log first, then console log after ( use file open ).
If you see some error that did get reported to the console, which I bet you did, it will give some clue. Find and report back here a couple lines before and after that time period when MS quit.

I have installed Safari 5.1. When I attempt to change the block cookies setting in the privacy preferences, the browser will not change the settings until I quit and restart the browser.

Quit Safari. Open a Finder window. Select your Home folder in the Sidebar on the left.
Open the Library folder then the Cookies folder.
Move the Cookies.plist file from the Cookies folder to the Trash.
    Restart your Mac.
If that didn't help, quit Safari. Open a Finder window select your Home folder in the Sidebar on the left. Then open the Library folder, then the Caches folder, then the com.apple.Safari folder. Move the cache.db file from the com.apple.Safari folder to the Trash. Relaunch Safari.

    Hi,
Please confirm if the issue happens to all users in your Exchange server.
In client side, please check the Connection Status when the issue occurs:
Please open Outlook - press CTRL key - right click on the Outlook icon from right bottom corner taskbar –Connection Status to check the connection.
Please notice the Server name, status, protocol and Type information.
In Exchange server, please check whether all Exchange services are started and running in Exchange 2010. Also check whether there is any error information in Event Viewer.
If the issue only happens to one user, please update the Outlook client with the latest patches and service packs to have a try.

  • Exchange 2013 SP1 users randomly prompted with "The Microsoft Exchange Administrator has made a change that requires you quit and restart Outlook"

I got a call to check an issue with a Exchange Server 2013 SP1 environment recently. All server was upgraded from Exchange server 2013 CU2 to Exchange Server 2013 SP1. It was done successfully but many users were being randomly prompted with a popup in their outlook
    client with the following message:-
“The Microsoft Exchange Administrator has made a change that requires you quit and restart Outlook”
Although there wasn’t any changes of late in the environment there were random popups like these for multiple users. As the behaviour was not consistent and effecting the entire upgration population
Please suggest us how to resolve the issue.

    Hi,
Does the issue happen to all Outlook 2013 users? Please create a new Outlook profile to have a try.
If it fails, please check the msExchHomePublicMDB value in ADSI Edit:
    1. In Adsiedit, expand Configuration-->CN=Services -> CN=Microsoft Exchange -> CN=domain -> CN=Administrative Groups -> CN=Exchange Administrative Group -> CN=Databases.
    2. Right-click the listed database > Properties.
    3. Check whether the msExchHomePublicMDB value is set to an available value. Please change the value to <not set>.
    4. Click OK.
Then check whether the issue persists.
    Thanks,

External hard drive connected to my airport extreme will no longer open, when navigating to it in Finder, the Finder window quits and reopens, cannot access hard drive, it is visible in airport utility, since the problem began I have updated firmware on Extreme as well as both of my Airport Expresses. Hard drive is USB connected to Extreme.

Reboot the USB drive.. assuming it is powered.. or unplug and replug a self-powered drive.. (you should not use self-powered drives on AE before the latest model.. always use a powered hub).
Does the drive now appear in finder..
If not reboot both drive and the AE.. it should now appear.
If it doesn't work with direct connection try a powered hub.. that can help.

Might be RAM related if the above tip describes what happened.
If not, and your data is not backed up, and it won't startup, read this tip:

  • Mail Missing Plug-in after sending; quit and restart Mail fixes it

mail > Missing Plug-in after sending; quit and restart Mail fixes it.
Its very obnoxious after all these years to have Apple Mail continue to complain about Missing Plug-in
This happens for PDFs, .zips, .jpgs and other types.
Any ideas why Apple cannot seem to fix this?

    Back up all data.
Boot into Recovery mode. When the OS X Utilities screen appears, follow the prompts to reinstall the OS. You don't need to erase the boot volume, and you won't need your backup unless something goes wrong. If your Mac was upgraded from an older version of OS X, you’ll need the Apple ID and password you used to upgrade, so make a note of those before you begin.

  • MS Outlook 2013 Error message "The microsoft exchange administrator had made a change that requires you to quit and restart outlook"

I am currently running 2 HP Servers, SAN Storage. I have Exchange 2013 installed and MS Outlook 2013 randomly appears with the message
"The Microsoft exchange administrator has made a change that requires you to quit and restart outlook" It is happening very frequently and is appearing every few seconds on a lot of users.

    Hi WeeMac22,
If you migrated from Exchange 2010 to Exchange 2013, I found a KB for your reference:
Outlook 2013 cannot connect after an Exchange Server 2010 mailbox is moved to Exchange Server 2013
    http://support.microsoft.com/kb/2934750/en-us
If not, I suggest using OWA to verify whether this issue remains.
    1. If everything works well in OWA, it seems an issue on the Outlook client side.
I suggest run Outlook under safe mode to avoid some AVs and add-ins.
I suggest re-create profile to refresh the caches.
I suggest re-install the Outlook if all methods above not working.
    2. If this issue remains in OWA, please verify whether all users on the Exchange 2013 have this isse.
If only one user has this issue, I suggest create a test user to check whether the test user has this issue.
If the test user works well, I suggest try to re-create the specific user account.
Please make a full back up before re-creating.

  • Microsoft Exchange administrator has made a change that requires you to quit and restart Outlook.

guys we just did the exchange migration from SP3 RU6 2007 to exchange 2010 SP2 , and moved the mailboxes , but few users are getting the prompt saying that -
Microsoft Exchange administrator has made a change that requires you to quit and restart Outlook.
So what best can we do to fix the issue. Apart from creating the new outlook profile i know that can be done but to get deeper is anything related to CAS Arrays preferred site enforcement.
    Thanks

    Hi,
Once you moved the mailboxes from older version to new version Exchange RPCClient access Point will change as per new database settings, so users normally get the popup saying that "Microsoft
Exchange administrator has made a change that requires you to quit and restart Outlook", so user has to restart the outlook to update the new configuration.
If its taking long time that you have to check the autodiscover URL which is configured in Exchange 2010 and Exchange Replication service these services are responsible
to update the new configuration in client.
Also if users are different location (AD Site) it will take some time to replicate.
I hope there won't be any issues for client due to this popup.
