  • What is the best laptop to run Premiere Pro cc?

    Hi everyone,
I've been having a lot of problems with Premiere cc since I downloaded it a few months ago and am now realising the problem is with my computer.  I have a late 2012 Macbook Pro, 2.5 ghz, 8gb Ram, intel hd 4000 processor which just doesn't seem to have the juice to run Premiere pro smoothly.  If I do any kind of editing, even just colour correction, the footage gets very sticky when playing back in Premiere.  if I try anything advanced like adding warp stabilier the program crashes.  I also bought magic bullet looks and I can barely open it without the whole computer having a meltdown.
This has been extremely frustrating and has made working with Premiere pro a nightmare.  I am now planning to buy a new laptop/pc and am looking for suggestions on what to buy.  i am looking for best bang for my buck.  While I would be willing to spend over a £1000 I would obviously prefer not to if I don't  have to.  I thought my Macbook Pro would have more than enough horsepower to handle it and have been left dissapointed and frustrated so would really appreciate some advice from the wider Adobe community on this.  I am also open to suggestions on desktops, not just laptops.
    Thanks!
    Tony

    Hi Jim,
I am using it solely for wedding videography so it quite basic stuff.  I am filming on a canon 7d and really just looking or something that I can edit the footage with and put on some light effect/colour grading.  I am not able to say what level of effects I will be needing to use as at the minute when i try anything other than basic editing the programme has a stroke.  Like I mentioned I have Magic Bullet Looks suite sitting waiting for me but I haven't even had a chance to try it out.  One effect I really like but know that it is processor draining is some warp stabiliation .  There are certain shots it really lends itself to but I just bought myself a nice monpod and fluid head so shouldn't need that anymore.
Last night I tried downloading Premiere cc onto my girlfriends £500 basic desktop and to my great surprise everthing ran like a dream! (compared to my computer anyway).  Is this normal, that a cheap desktop would so comprehensively outperform a 12 month old Macbook Pro?  I am wondering if there is an unresolved problem with the macbook itself.
To give you an example, if i have put warp stabilisation on a clip on my macbook I have to put it at 1/4 resolution for it to playback and even then it is extremely choppy and sticky and sometimes crashes the programme.  Last night on the budget desktop I was able to put it to full resolution and it played smoothly, just like it would if it had been exported.
Any advice you could give on this would be much appreciated.  ive been round the traps with apple and adobe tech guys and neither of them can find anything wrong with the computer or the programme.
    Thanks,
    Tony

  • I need a laptop to run Premiere Pro, After Effects & More - advice please!

    Hi All,
I'm migrating from a Macbook Pro (which is getting old) - and because of budget and future upgrades would rather buy me a windows machine.......I love my Mac!
Looking at gaming machines which sort of have the specs I require (is that the right route?) - but is a brand that people turn to on the windows side of laptops that:
: Have the specs and more that Adobe deem necessary to run their Apps - I run Pp, Ae, An, Ps, Ai & Mu
    : Can be upgraded
    : Doesn't weight a ton
    : Doesn't slack on outputs
    : Is reasonable priced
Any advice would be handy! Many thanks!

Search the forums or use the "More Like This" column on the right hand side the screen by your posting as a good starting point then come back with some specific questions.  Lots of recent discussions on ASUS and MSI gaming machines.  If you can quantify your above requirements a little bit it will help us help you.  This response comes from my refurbished ASUS G750JW with memory and two SSD upgrade drives.  I love it but there may be better starting points today.

  • Researching PC laptops that will run Premiere Pro CC. I am unfamiliar with tech specs. Please help!

I am an independent filmmaker who is looking to invest in a better and faster laptop to accommodate Premiere Pro CC. I'm a current PC user and love it, and I am trying to stay with the PC OS. I'm not familiar with tech specs, but in my extensive research, this ASUS laptop seems to match almost all of the Adobe System Requirements for Premiere Pro CC (2014). Though, some are not mentioned, so I wasn't sure if it matches up completely.

I don't want to spend a big chunk of money on a new piece of technology if it won't be able to do what I need it to do. Please help!

...I totally second Bill's suggestion and information.....I did the EXACT SAME thing as he did, when my previous i7 laptop was hit by lightning and KILLED !! My "refurbished " Asus G750JW only cost $850 at the time, and arrived in a "like new" condition, with all the plastic film still on everything......it has been FLAWLESS in operation. It edits 1080p EASILY with multiple video tracks and GPU accelerated effects on the timeline.
It is AMAZING how in just one year how much advancement has occurred in these "gaming" laptops, which can be used for video editing. However, you MUST be aware that these laptops MUST be plugged in while editing as they are "throttled" on battery power...no matter HOW you make the "power settings". Some newer models offer multiple mSATA slots, where you can create a high speed storage RAID 0 array....a Crucial mSATA 256GB SSD is only $89 right now at the "Egg".....2 or 3 of these in an MSI Dominator would provide a very fast place for your media and project files. The other, standard 2.5" SATA III port would be for your OS drive...again, a Crucial 256GB 550 SSD would be good there.
Like Bill said....look for a refurbished, open box, or, maybe even slightly used machine that is "user upgradeable" to get the biggest bang for the buck. You will have to research VERY CAREFULLY however to insure EXACTLY which memory slots are already filled and if you have access to only SOME of the slots, or, ALL of the slots. Also, you must determine EXACTLY how the drive bays are configured. For example : one version of the MSI laptop that is a CHEAPER version still has the space for 3 separate mSATA drives,BUT, does NOT include necessary "adapters" to actually connect your OWN mSATA drives in that bay. I DID find a small RESELLER on the internet, ( in Pennsylvania, if I remember correctly) who will MODIFY a BASE model of the MSI for a VERY reasonable cost.....even LESS than it would cost to SELF upgrade !! He would add the memory to 32GB AND max out the potential for the storage configuration FOR you. With the proper "homework" you CAN find a very good machine without getting RAPED...it just takes patience, reading, and learning before pulling the trigger.
    Good Luck !!

  • Can my notebook run Premiere Pro CS4?

    Hey guys,
I'm new here. I was wondering if my notebook could run Premiere Pro CS4. Regardless of the requirements on adobe.com, could my notebook still run it ok?
    Specs:
    Dell Studio XPS 16
    Intel Core 2 Duo P8600 - 2.4 GHz, 3 MB cache, 1066 MHz FSB
4 GB DDR3 Dual Channel RAM 1067 MHz
    ATi Mobility Radeon 4670 - 1 GB
    320 GB 7200 RPM
    1920x1080
Tell me if I need to add anymore specs.
    Thanks in advance!

Rak, I run Production Premium CS4 in a pinch on my laptop:
    Dell E1705 (from 2006)
    T7200 2.00 gHz Core2Duo
4GB Ram (only 3.4GB seeable on Vista Ultimate 32-bit)
    256mb Nvidia 7900 GS
    320GB 7200rpm drive
    eSata LaCie external for media
Photoshop CS4 survives, Premiere stutters along but does run. I've taken 5D Mark II clips and used Encoder to create a few different formats and burn a DVD. So your late mode XPS 16 should fare well. Are you running 64-bit, and can you up the ram to 6GB? That would help tremendously. I would seriously consider Windows 7 64-bit when it comes out in October, I've been on it for 2 months (RC version) and it is superbly stable, walks Vista to the dock.
BTW, I did realize I couldn't survive on my laptop, and since Adobe allows two installs, I just built an i7 rig with 12GB ram and Windows 7 64-bit and a WD 10K drive. The difference is obviously huge, but in a pinch my laptop can pull me through.

  • My 2014 MacBook Pro with retina displays crashes when I run Premiere Pro CS5

    Hi,
I just purchased a 2014 MacBook Pro with Retina display with the following specs:
2.8GHz Quad-core Intel Core i7, Turbo Boost up to 4.0GHz
    16 GB 1600MHz DDR3L SDRAM
Intel Iris Pro Graphics and NVIDIA GeForce GT 750M with 2GB of GDDR5 memory
I am running Premiere Pro CS5 with Mercury Playback GPU Acceleration enabled, but my computer keeps freezing and I have to restart it every time.   Any kind of help or feedback would be greatly appreciated.
    Thanks.

I had to call Apple and the tech made me enter a bunch of terminal commands to fix this. Unfortunately I can't tell you excactly what it was. I think the best way would be to call Apple.

  • When I run Premiere Pro CS5, it works for awhile then locks up

My machine has 16gb of memory and a Intel 7 processor.  When I run Premiere Pro CS5, it works for awhile
and then locks up for anywhere from a few seconds to over a minute.  Can anyone dignose this problem?
Could it be where Premiere is installed in relation to where my files are stored?
Any help with this vexing problem would be appreciated.

I edit AVCHD with the computer described in http://forums.adobe.com/thread/652694 and have no problems
My 3 hard drives for video editing are configured as...
    1 - 320Gig Boot for Win7 64bit Pro and ALL program installs
2 - 320Gig data for Win7 paging swap file and video project files
When I create a project on #2 drive, the various work files follow,
so my boot drive is not used for the media cache folders and files
3 - 1Terabyte data for all video files... input source & output export files
How many hard drives do you have, and where is everything located?

  • What is it like to run Premiere Pro on The New MacBook 12 inch?

I like the MacBook 12 inch but I don't know if it would run Premiere Pro well.

Since the hardware in the new Mac Pro is so radically different from the old Mac Pro, the chance of it running anything older then what ships with is probably zero.

  • "could not find any capable video play modules" on Premiere Pro CC 2014

    Hello
I am just recently subscribed to Creative Cloud.
After I download Premiere Pro CC, I got a start-up error "could not find any capable video play modules" while there is no problem with After Effect CC and SpeedGrade CC
For the first few time, I did successfully launch Premiere Pro CC by launching SpeedGrade first
However it doesn’t work now. In the meantime, Photoshop CC, Lightroom CC also work fine.
My situation is very similar to https://forums.adobe.com/thread/1420782
The start-up error pops-up when the launching process is stuck at “ImporterQuickTime.prm”
I am really disappointed as I finally joined CC for Premium Pro but it fails to launch.
I have spent days searching on Google for solution, of course I did see the Adobe FAQ at https://helpx.adobe.com/premiere-pro/kb/error---preludevideo-play-modules.html but none of them works to me.
    So far I have tried
erasing the Temp files of my PC
updating my graphic card’s driver to the latest version,
    reinstalling Premiere Pro CC
But it is still not working at all.
Here’s the spec of my PC:
    Motherboard: AsRock Extreme4 970
CPU: AMD Phenom II X6 1090T
Graphic Card: MSI N670GTX Power Edition (nVIDIA GTX 670)
    RAM: 12GB DDR3
OS: Windows 7 64bit Home Premium
Interestingly, Premiere Pro CC works without any error on my Acer V5-571G laptop with Win8.1 64 bit.
But the performance is unacceptably low during editing so I’m still hoping to use Premiere Pro on my desktop instead.
    Can anyone help me.?

What is the screen size, in pixels x pixels of your laptop?
Did you read the computer requirements before trying to run PPro?
