Finding lost songs in my iTunes library
I have an external hard drive that I share between work and home PCs; however, I store all my music files on such drive and synch my iPod on the home computer.
After upgrading my iTunes library on the work computer, I experienced some technical issues and had to choose to synch with a library. By accident, I chose the home library on the external hard drive. I then noticed that the number of songs on the home library were less than those that are on my iPod, which was last synched to the same library but using the home computer. I want the number of songs on my iPod currently to match up to the home library but I'm unsure how to do so. Help!!!
It sounds like your home PC might have some files on its internal C: hard drive, that are not on your work PC or the exHD.
If you go back home and sync your ipod, does it all show up again?

Defrag my hard drive on my iMac now I tunes can't find my songs in the iTunes library
I defraged my hard drive now iTunes can't find the songs in the library. Not connected to the cloud yet. Any suggestions on getting iTunes to find the master copy of the songs so I can play them on my iMacs. I have the same songs on my I pad but I don't know of any way of transferring my music from my iPod to the iTunes library on my iMac. Any thoughts.
Same problem here. In my case I suspect due to having been cleaning out duplicate music files when hard disk was filling at an alarming rate (as I watched.) No longer doing that but my cleanup must have moved essential elements and files.
Anyone know how to get my purchased stuff, showing as purchased but with exclamation mark, back into itunes again? -
I lost all my ipod songs when my mom plugged her exact same ipod (5th generation nano) into my computer. She did not get my songs on hers but somehow I lost mine. I tried the five R's and evrything I could find online. I cannot get the songs from my iTunes library back on my ipod. I get a message that says. "Gina's ipod cannot be restored because it is being used in another application." Please help me
Why do you need to restore your iPod to resync your content back over to it from your iTunes library? You should just be able to configure the content to sync to your device as you did before this problem occurred.

The previous version of Itunes had a function where I could identify duplicate songs in my iTUNES library. I cannot find this function in the new version of iTUNES.
Please advise where this is in the new version? The show duplicates/show exact duplicates features have been left out of iTunes 11. Rumor suggests they will be restored in the next build. In the meantime I have written two Windows scripts to make playlists of Duplicates and Exact Duplicates, either from a selection of tracks or the entire library.
If you want to manually remove duplicate tracks use shift-delete to remove selected tracks from the library as well as the playlist. Keep one of each repeated group of files and don't send to the recycle bin unless you are sure that there are multiple files on the disc as opposed to multiple entries to the same file.
There is also my DeDuper script if you don't want to do it by hand. This can preserve ratings, play counts, playlist membership, etc. which are lost in a manual clean up. Please take note of the warning to backup your library before deduping. See this thread for background on deduping and the script.

I have 100 plus songs in my itunes library (downloaded from store and cd's) that have lost the original file on my computer. They are still playing on my ipod. Is there a way I can transfer the songs fromn the ipod back into the library to restore the files?
I have tried everything I have read on the Internet about sync issues and restore etc and not there isn't a single song on my iPad or iPod touch. All of the songs are listed in my iTunes but are all greyed out, some have the cloud symbol next to them but lots don't and some say waiting.
Long and short is nothing will save to my devices at all.....HELP !!!!!!!? -
Help please! When I try to sync my iPhone it tells me it can't find most of my files for the songs in my iTunes library, although the songs are there!!

I erase by mistake my itunes library, then in my trash I foud it and do put it back; but now all the song are in itunes library but they can find any of them. what can I do?
Have you looked at the settings in iTunes. Is music syncing manual or automatic. More info please. I would try removing all restrictions as an initial test.

Some songs from my iTunes library do not show in my Finder music folder
Some songs from my iTunes library do not show in my Finder music folder. For example one of the three CD's form a triple album do not show in Finder. And therefore they do not get saved when I back up my Mac either. Any ideas?
Consolidate ("organize") simply looks at everything you have in iTunes and copies them to the iTunes media folder location specified in iTunes prefs -> Advanced. If you select to use the default settings iTunes will copy any files in its library in the correct location in the media folder. Since you don't want the files in a different locaiton really but just want to deal with some stragglers don't do the full "move" in hte instructions below but make sure they are organized.
iTunes 11 for Mac: Change where your iTunes files are stored - http://support.apple.com/kb/PH12165
The files will be copied so you will need to find the originals abd once you are content the library is working you can get rid of them (I often archive them on an external drive, delete the originals, then play the files which is a sure test if you have a workable copy on the computer). -
I was importing photos to iphoto and somehow lost access to my iTunes library. when i open iPhoto, it asks me to select a library, but there are no photo libraries present for me to select. I cant find my pictures and have no access to my iPhoto.
somehow lost access to my iTunes library.
What does iTunes have to do with this? Also more specific information might be helpful.
What system and iPhoto versions are you running?
Where are you being asked to select a library? What kind of library, iPhoto or iTunes?
What do you see when you first launch iPhoto?

I lost my iPod Nano. Can I retrieve all of the songs in my iTunes library, or just the ones I bought through the iTunes store?
The "bar" at the bottom does not say anything about all of your songs being on the iPod. It just shows you how much of its storage capacity is being used, based on what is on the iPod.
If you see "On This iPod," that means the iTunes sidebar (along left side of window) is not visible. This is easier to describe with the sidebar visible, so from the iTunes menu bar, under View, select Show Sidebar.
Select the iPod in the sidebar, under DEVICES. There is a bar of buttons near the top, starting with Summary. Click on Music next to Summary. This is the iPod's Music screen, where you tell iTunes how to sync songs to the iPod.
Check the box for Sync Music. You can choose to sync Entire music library, if (?) your iTunes music library fits on the iPod. With this setting, your entire iTunes music library syncs to the iPod, and new songs get synced automatically. A 7th gen iPod nano is 16GB, so your iTunes music library would have to be less than 16GB (not counting non-music content on the iPod). Otherwise, you can choose to sync Selected playlists, artists, albums, and genres. Then, select (checkmark) the playlists, artists, albums, and/or genres you want on the iPod from the lists below. If you want newly added songs to sync to the iPod, they must be part of your selection. For example, you can add them to a playlist that you have selected for syncing to the iPod.
When you click Apply, the songs from your selection sync to the iPod. Going forward, changes to your iTunes library (based on your settings on the iPod's Music screen) sync automatically to the iPod, the next time it is connected (or when you click Sync). -
Locating missing songs in my iTunes library. How do you make sure that all drives are being looked at for the missing songs?
To import music into your iTunes library on the computer go to iTunes>Help>iTunes Help>Add items to iTunes and follow the instructions
Delete the "songs" that do not play in your iTunes library and reimport them.
