Finding out how much root space does each app take...

Hello! I was wondering if there is a way to find out how much root space does each installed app take, like a X-terminal command or something? Just want to figure out if i have some "non-optified" programmes (I believe this is the right term, but could very well be wrong) Cheers

Wow.. MC is a freaking space hog! 5meg of root space
libmagic is interesting.. not sure what needs that.. it's used by software to tell what file type a file is.. it can look at a jpeg, for example and tell you it is a jpg.. clever stuff really (it doesn't use the file extension like windows) so I assume this is possibly midnight commander too..
Out of all the extra packets you've installed, they're using 19,184,792 bytes of root space.. 18meg..
5meg is midnight commander, 3 meg is QT3 support (not sure why you have that) and another 1.3meg is libmagic and 2 meg is some Python stuff..
Killing off midnight commander would free some space... (why this isn't on /opt, I don't know) but realistically you've not used too much.. you should be fine!
---edit---
I finished re-reading your post, not just the log file.. HA!! The funny thing is, doing this command line stuff is second nature to me.. I frequently do it in my sleep The N900 is therefore the ideal phone for someone of this disposition.. I need to find out blah statistics.. erm.. COMMAND LINE
If you want to wander down such a particularly perverse path, I'm happy to help out and newbieness is always forgiven
But it just shows what you can get away with using nothing more than litterally a few command line commands! pretty neat really!

  • Is there a way to find out how much I have spent on apps for the iPad?

I need to find out how much I have spent on apps for taxes.  But in the app store on my iPad under the purchased tab, it lists all the apps but the prices are not available.  Any suggestions?

    Hi...
If you can access your iTunes account on a computer you can sign in then view your Purchase History.
    And check your bank statements.

  • Is there a way to access iCloud to find out how much storage space I need to install music on iPhone? Genius Bar was not very helpful...

I have several questions I could not get answered yesterday...
Does the number of songs listed on iPhone represent music available on iPhone or in iCloud.
How do find out how much space of music you have in iCloud you need for iPhone to download all music?
Is there a easier way to get the music available in iCloud downloaded to iPhone without separately downloading each album separately?
Last question...if the music is not downloaded...does it get played at all when on wi-fi?

Both. If you have the setting to "show all music" set to ON you will see all music that is available. If the setting is set to OFF you will only see music that is stored locally on the device.

iTunes Match does not use your iCloud storage.

Music can be downloaded by Album, Artist or Playlist. Or you can disable iTM, sync music via USB, then re-enable the iTM service.

    Yes.

  • How to find out how much disk space left on hard drive OS 10.7.5?

Yes, this probably seems like a dumb question; however, after I installed OS 10.7.5, I noticed that the little bar at the bottom of each window which revealed available disk space has disappeared. How do I get it back? How do I find out how much space left on my internal hard drive?

Right Click on it and  Get Info > Available

  • How can I find out how much disk space I have free?

I want to download a large file from the internet (22.21 GB). I have deleted everything on my computer that I don't think is necessary to keep, but how do I find out exactly how much disk space my computer has free so I can download?

    Hello again Rolanda,
Barry is right on the money here ( Hello Barry! )
You need to delete / remove some files off that computer as soon as possible. Start with things you never use. Then onto things that can easily be replaced.
I would not even attempt to copy to CD's until you have at least 5 or 6 GB free!
Post back if you need more.
    Regards
    Ian

  • How much hdd space does mac os take up?

This is an odd question, but I'm going to be getting a mac book soon. I'm going to school to be an audio engineer and I want to get a mac so that I can run pro-tools easily. I'm looking at getting an 80gig hdd, but I'm not sure it will be enough. So I wanted to see if anyone could tell me how much disc space is taken up by mac os. So, if you have a mac book with a 80g hdd, how much hdd space was actually available when you turned it on for the first time?

    Hi Daniel -
First off your 80G is going to be a few gig less because that's the reality of any drive. The base install of Tiger is around 3-4Gig. If I were you (and I believe most here would second this) I'd do a 'Custom' install and install only the application you know you are going to use. You can also delete language packs that you'll never need and printer drivers as well.
Your Macbook comes fully loaded out of the box ....play around with thing to see what you like and what you might need - then do a clean install tailored to you liking.
Depending on what you do with your audio - a bigger drive can be handy, but then an external drive may be a better choice to both record to and store info on.
80Gig may sound smallish compared to todays drives - but I think you'll have a hard time filling it up unless you start working with lots of video/graphic information.

  • Hi. I am going to be buying a macbook air 2012 soon with 4 GB of RAM and wondering how much memory space does norton AV take up and does it drastically slow down the mac. Thanks a lot :)

    Hi
I am going to be buying a macbook air 2012 model with 4 GB ram soon. I was wondering how much space (memory) does Norton AV take up and does it drastically slow down the computer. Also, I am going off to uni so will predominantly be using the laptop for surfing and MS office.
    Thanks a lot

Sorry to disagree mende1.  In this age of email attachments and social networks, it is actually a good idea to have a good antivirus on your system. {I realize that this is a religious argument and I will say no more}.  With that said, the general concensus is that Norton AV is terrible. It is intrusive and uses up a lot of cycles.
There are a lot of better AV clients out there.  I use ClamXav which is free and uses the clamav antivirus that is open source.

  • How can I find out how much free space on my hard drive?

I recently upgraded to Lion but still a newbie to Mac OS X.  I need to be able to check available space on internal hard drive.

    Hi ...
Right or control click the MacintoshHD icon. Click Get Info. In the Get Info window you will see Capacity and Available. Make sure there's a minimum of 15% free disk space.
You'll see Capacity and Available from the Get Info panel.

  • HT204266 How does one find out how much one paid for an app after it has been installed?

It would be far more useful if the word INSTALLED also dispayed either the word FREE or the
amount paid for the app; e.g. INSTALLED FREE or INSTALLED $2.99.   Some of the free apps display
the word Free within the app icon, but not all free apps do so.

Try Account Information on iTunes, then Purchase History.

  • How to find out how much space apps are taking

i don't know when this happened but i'm using about 85gb of my 250gb hard drive, when it used to be around 50gb. so i was wondering why when i look at itunes music it shows how much space it's taking the bottom, but if i go to the app section of itunes it only shows '198 apps', but not how much space it's taking? do the apps that i have in itunes take up space on my hard drive and how do i find out how much? also i see in finder that i have some previous itunes libraries, is it safe to delete these, some are from 2008. thanks for any help.

No. It does not do that.
Just about anything from your Home directory where your files are kept can be deleted or moved.
Outside of the Home directory you have to be careful since you don't want to destroy your system.
If you have large folders or files outside of your Home directory, please ask first before moving or deleting.
