Finding shared members with Excel Add-In

My user is using the "find" feature in the add-in to determine where a particular member resides. This member is found 2 places in the outline (the original and the shared member). The add-in finds the first occurrence, but does not find the second one using the "find next" button. Is this a bug or is there something we are doing incorrectly? Any help is appreciated. Thanks.

I, too, would recommend rebuilding the workbook.. Excel workbooks can get some funny behaviors, particularly if they contain VBA code. VBA in Excel stays 'semi-compiled' and never really clears itself out and a bunch of phantom references remain (and are completely hidden). I have seen some very strange behavior cleaned up by rebuilding the workbook..
My old friend, Excel MVP Rob Bovey, has a utility specifically built to rebuild workbooks at http://www.appspro.com/Utilities/Utilities.htm.

Removing Members from Excel Add-in (or Smartview) Member Selection Options

The users of my system have write access to some scenarios, read access to others, and no access to the rest. I would like the Scenarios for which the users have no access to not show up in the member selection options in Excel Add-in (similar to how they will not show up in Forms). Our security settings obviously prevent them from seeing the data itself, but we don't want them to see certain Scenarios at all (even the member names). We've dealt with this issue in Financial Reporting by manually specifying what the POV options are, but we can't do the same with Excel Add-in or Smartview.
Is this possible, or are these Add-ins just not smart enough to interpret the security?

I sugget you look at metaread filters. they would prevent users from seeing members they don't have access to (one exception is they might see parents they don't have access to if they are required to navigate to the hierarchy they do have access to

Shared Members with Integration Server

Hi all,I need to add as shared members some member in an alternative hierarchy, but when I perform an outline update IS adds members as shered again in my alternative hierarchy.I have two ways:first: say to IS to add as shared only new members, but I don't know how;second: remove all members from my alternative hierarchy before perform the outline update, but I need to do that automatically, not manually.Who can help me?thanksciao

i got an error message "CORRRESPONDING INTEGRATION SERVER NOT MAINTAINED" on execution of the configuration.
Ans : It seems at the time of creating Business systems and Tech Systems . you missed to assign the business system with XI integration server.
2)When i select ROLE OF BUSINESS SYSTEM AS ->APPLICATION SYSTEM and
RELATED INTEGRATION SERVER -> (While assigning INTEGRATION SERVER)
i got an error :could not update the business system JAVA.LANG.NULLPOINTER EXCEPTIONS.
Ans : XI not installed properly.
3)in SXI_CACHE t.code when i choose menu path ENVIRONMENT -> CACHE NOTIFICATIONS i got an error : UNABLE TO DETERMINE THE NAME OF THE CENTRAL ADAPTER ENGINE FROM THE SLD.
And : Since the type of scenario you are running is using Inernal adapter engine which is with in Integration Server...so this is an obvious error.
4)during PERFORMANCE MONITORING
errors: A)APPLICATION ERRORS: INTEGRATION SERVER UNABLE TO FETCH DATA
B)ERROR CLASS:COM.SAP.AII.RWB.WEB.PERFORMANCEMONITORING.AGGREGATE.....
C) NO COMPONENTS AVAILABLE IN THE INTEGRATION SERVER...
Conclusion : Either your XI is not installed properly or the integration engine of XI is not configured properly. Consult Basis team for this.

Finding out members with no data across the cube

Hello everybody:
If I have a Services dimension and there are some members with any input data. How can I get a list from this dimension with services with data and services without data?. Does exist some way to find out this?

Hi Javier,
For this reterieve data in excel in proper combination
1) In sheet one reterieve data by selecting supress #missing rows,(you will get data rows)
2) In sheet two reterieve data normally.
3) use Vlookup for the rest of the course.

Issue with Excel add in

Hi Experts,
Some of the users receive the following error message while attempting to retrieve data on a previously-working query in essbase excel add in:
"Essbase has encountered an internal Excel error. Your sheet will not be overwritten and none of your data will be lost. However, you are strongly urged to exit Excel and restart in order to clear up the problem"
Also tried uninstalling and reinstalling Essbase client and also tried with essbase add in version 9.3.1.3, but nothing worked.
Please let us know your thoughts on the below issue.

Passing selected members from excel add-in as parameters to calc script

Hi, I m trying to pass parameters to a function in a calcscript(or member formula). The parameters will be members of adimension selected by users(from Excel add-in or Web analysis) atthe run time. For example, a user select years FY04,FY05,FY06 then I wantthese three years to be passed as parameters to my function. How can this be achieved in Excel and Web analysis? Hope to get a reply soon. Error message when opening a shared workbook with Excel 2007

Hello,
We would like to share a workbook outside BW (by saving into a serveur).Since we use Excel 2007, we can't anymore open this workbook.
We have a message error (see bellow).
For your information, it was ok with Excel 2003.
When whe save the workbook in local disk and then copy from local disk
to a serveur, it's ok.
We use SAPGUI 7.10 support package 8, patch 1 Revision 1443 & BI 7.0.

hey Nicolas,
first of all, your error message is in French... not too many people out there will be able to understand. Eventhough I do understand French, it doesn't make much sense to me... BUT... in Excel2007 all macro's are by default disabled. When you enable them (you should get a "Security Warning" right under "the Ribbon"), your BI stuff should work again.
Just gave it a try, and it runs smoothly over here.

Cannot view Master Data Services Models with Excel Add-In, using MSSQServer 2014 Trial and Excel 2010 (non-trial)

I'm using using MSSQServer 2014 Trial with Master Data Services installed. I have connected to the MDS server with the Excel 2010 MDS Add-In.
Models are not listed in the Add-In's Explorer browser. When I open the MDS server with IE, no models are listed either.
I can view them locally on the server in IE.
There are no remote DB access issues.
Is it just that the 2014 Trial version does not supply this info remotely??

Would be good if the interface would show some kind of alert to that fact.

Shared members and dynamic calc

I am trying to replicate a new cube from current GL cube and wish to remove unused shared members if they have any impact on essbase.
2/3 of my accounts (dense) member is stored with the remainder being shared members. Shared members do not add to block size. But having so many of them, does it impact on calc scripts or retrievals or any other impacts?
Secondly, in accounts and divisions, we have four levels. except for level 0, the remaining levels are all dynamic calc. Division is sparse member. Its not advisable to have dynamic calc on dense dimension. What about sparse dimension like division? Will it be better to change level 2&3 to dynamic and change level 1 to store as well?
We have also been advised by our consultant to change accounts to sparse dimension considering the number of times we need to update outline for new members (stored and shared).

Having shared members in dense hierarchy will not have much of impact on Cube size or retrieval performance.
but its always advisable to avoid unnecessary hierarchies (shared or stored or dynamic).
Having top level dense members as dynamic lines is a good design but having sparse dynamic calc will impact retrieval performance.
its not at all advisable to make sparse members as dynamic calc but if needed we can make sparse members with very few children as dynamic calc (or dynamic calc & store). yet again its not advisable to have a dynamic calc children to a sparse stored parent as this will affect the batch calculation while aggregating parent sparse member.
And as suggested by your consultant it is feasible to make the dimension getting modified more often, as a sparse dimension as this will reduce the restructuring time (sparse restructure will take less time compared to dens restructure).
But that alone cannot be considered as factor as there are many other factors to be considered for making a dimension sparse.

Multiple shared members in ASO outline

 I am building an outline with one primary and three alternate hierarchies within one of the dimensions of an Aggregate Storage (ASO) cube. All of the leaf members in each of the alternate hierarchies are shared members of a member in the primary hierarchy. The non-shared member is a leaf in some cases and a summary point in others. All hierarchies are stored. When I try to save the outline, I get a long list of verification errors. For the stored members to which the shared members refer, Essbase is complaining that "This member has multiple copies of same shared member in at least one stored hierarchy. See other messages for which members and which hierarchies." For the shared members, Essbase complains that "Aggregate storage outlines only allow a shared member once in a stored hierarchy." For the alternate hierarchies, Essbase complains that "This stored hierarchy has multiple copies of same shared member. Remove extra member or change hierarchy to be dynamic." However, I did a find on a handful of the members that Essbase was complaining about and in all cases have found only one instance of each shared member in each alternate hierarchy. The same shared member might appear in two or more alternate hierarchies, but I have not found a case where it appears more than once in the same hierarchy. I have also ensure the following: <UL>The primary hierarchy occurs first in the outline, so non-shared members always appear before any instances of any of the shared members.</UL> <UL>There are no shared members in the primary hierarchy.</UL> <UL>All members, non-shared and shared, are in the same dimension.</UL> <UL>Non of the stored hierarchies contain both a non-shared instance and a shared instance of the same member.</UL> I have tried making the alternate hierarchies dynamic, but query retrievals are so slow that they're completely unacceptable to the client. Has anyone encountered a similar problem? Is there a solution to this? 

I heard back from Hyperion Tech Support again. Turns out it's not a defect after all. It's actually a subtle technicality in the restrictions on shared members with ASO. The first restriction, which is explained in the outline verification error message, is that you can only have one instance of a shared member within a given stored alternate hierarchy. The second restriction is that you cannot have any shared members within a given stored alternate hierarchy where the non-shared instances of the members are ancestors/descendants of each other. Unfortunately, when this restriction is violated, EAS gives the same error message as it does for the first restriction, so it's a bit harder to debug. Hope this saves someone some grief. -Silvester

it does not quite work like that.
create a text file with the same format as a file that is used to build the dimension.
For example, Say the dimension is product and you are using a level build. Assume the first column is the level zero member of product.
Create a file with one member called "delete_Me" (or any non-member of the data base).
Set the dimension settings to remove unspecified members. When you run this rule with this test data file, it will delete ALL of the members of product and add the member "Delete_me" as a child of Product.
Then run your regular build(s), which builds both the primary and shared member roll-ups and it will re-add all the members and if you use the same load rule, will delete the member called "Delete_Me".
This can all be coupled in one Import dimension statement so data does not get lost.

Essbase Excel Add-in in 11.1.2.1

Hi All,
We have Essbase 9.3.1 in our current configuration with Excel Add-In.
We want to migrate to Essbase 11.1.2.1 but we still want to use Excel Add-In, as we have VBA Macros.
Please help me regarding this.

So what's the issue? The add-in is alive and well in Essbase 11.1.2.1.
You might want to look at the very latest and greatest version of Smart View as it gives you near parity (really, really, really close) with the add-in. Yes, I know, VBA requirements, but worth a look.

The company I work for set up shared members with alias names. I need to get rid of the alias names so that they are linked to their proper stored members and take on those names. How do I do this without haveing to go to every contton-picking shared member and delete the alias name?

Excel add-in Terminal Service, not connection is made

I have a problem with Excel add-in on Terminal Service. Theinstallation went all right and the add-in is found by Excel. Theproblem is when I try to connect to one of the essbase serversnothing happens. When I check the server no login attempt has beenmade, the funny thing is that when I enter a server name that doesnot exist I get an error message telling me that the servercouldn’t be found (so clearly the add-in is doing something).The versions that I’m using for the add-in is 7.1.5 andI’m trying to connect to a servers with the essbase versions7.1.5 and 7.1.2. I have installed this add-in on several desktopsand then it’s working as expected. Is this a known problem? Have anyone had this problem before? Iwould really appreciate any help I can get regarding thismatter. I should probably also tell you that I had an older version ofExcel add-in installed and working before, the version was 7.1.2.This was uninstalled before the 7.1.5 version was installed. This sounds liek an issue we have seen a number of times. When you first connect you will need write access to the essbase\ folder on the machine where Essbase add-in is installed. It writes the connection information provided to essbase.ini and this is then used the next time you log in. You should be able to narrow the write area down further, can't remember exactly where the write is required - there are other areas as well from memory. Issue with double click zoom on Essbase Excel Add-in

Several of my users have been experiencing a problem recently when the do a double click zoom in or zoom out in Excel Add-in 7.1.3. It will start clocking (icon flashes as well as the cells while the clocking is occuring) and the only way to break out of it is to hit escape. Sometimes the clocking will only last a minute but, depending on the number of members that you can drill down into, can last several minutes at which point the users end up just escaping out. This doesn't happen with all templates or with all users. Zooming in and zooming out using the menu works fine. This only occurs with double click zooming (which to the users is much quicker and they prefer not using the menu).
This is Excel Add-in 7.1.3 on Office 2007 which I realize is not certified compatible but we have not had this issue until the last few weeks.
Anyone else having this issue? Ideas?

sometimes you dont find any excel sheets open but there will be a process allocated to it and running ..you can see this in the task manager..
so go to task manager and try deleting all the process related to excel.
Now after deleting all the processes you find NO excel sheets open..
Try viewing the required excel sheet now..
hope it works now..
