FIOS Better Not Drop WJAR Channel 10 In RI or I WILL G Back TO COX

I have just found out that FIOS plans to drop WJAR Ch. 10 in RI and near by MA. If you do this Verizon I will go back to COX Cable. This is not a threat but an honest warning.

I won't go to Cox.  I'll simply pick up the station over the air in HD.  What bothers me is that other than a notice on WJAR's broadcast, I haven't heard anything from Verizon.
Apparently things like this aren't important enough to involve the subscribers.  It would be nice if Verizon would send a notice out.  Is NBC going to be covered by another broadcaster or do we lose it all together?
With all the money I send to Verizon each month, I expect better than this.  SHAME ON YOU VERIZON.

    I will swich back to Cox even though it will kill me to do so.  Time to act responsibly and reach a deal.

    HAHAHAHA....well good luck to you and COX.  Their service pales in comparision to Verizon Fios!!  And honestly I've lived in this state for 39 years and can do with out WJAR and it's blown up news crew...the only thing I'll be missing is bad news...and with all the technology out there I can stream Sunday night football to my television from my FIOS driven computer!!  For all the plus I get I can live with this one minus.

  • New FIOS customer with dropped VOIP calls and Internet connection

    I am a new FIOS customer. Got my 50/25 connection a week ago, switching from a TWC 6/1 connection. Ever since the new connection, I've had numerous issues.
    My VOIP (Ooma) connection constantly drops and re-connects during conversations
    I've had random Internet connection losses, which picks up again after a few minutes
    My home alarm starts chirping every once in a while
    I've contacted Verizon several times due to these problems and have received varying answers with no resolution of the problem.
    The first time I spoke with support, the tech logged into my router and changed the WiFi channel saying that would fix the problem. It didn’t.
    The second time I contacted them, the tech ran a bunch of diagnostics and said everything looked fine so it must be an IP address conflict with my devices, because I had a couple devices using static IP addresses. He said everythinf should be DHCP and the last two digits could not be higher than 99 (192.168.1.99). He said FIOS does not support 3-digit numbers at the end.
    So I changed all my devices to DHCP and ran some online VOIP tests. It showed a packet loss of 2-5% and MOS score of 1 (which is bad). I was still getting dropped connections, so I disconnected all devices and connected just one computer to the router and tested again. I was still getting packet loss.
    Then I called support a third time, this time the tech said there were no 2-digit IP restrictions and that he was detecting there was no UPS baterry backup for the ONT which was probably causing the problem, so he dispatched a field tech to my house.
    Today the field tech came (same guy as before), he took one look at the box and said it was too close to my Electric meter and the RF from the meter was causing interference to the FIOS connection and resulting in dropped connection.
    He moved the ONT to another location and said that should fix it.
    Well, I'm still seeing packet loss and low MOS score when I run the VOIP test.
    I don't know how much of what the techs are saying is true and how much is made up stuff.
    Has anyone had similar issues and have thoughts on solutions or likely causes for dropped VOIP calls and connections? Could RF be causing this?
    I thought going from a 6/1 Cable connection to a 50/25 FIOS connection would be awesome, but this has turned out to be a nightmare, and I may have to switch back to cable if the problem is not resolved.
    I would appreciate any help.
    Thanks!

    Don't know where the packet loss is happening. I ran the VOIP test on myspeed.visualware.com and it shows a packet loss of 2-5% at different times and a MOS score of 1.
    The report says MOS should be around 4 for good VOIP calls.
    The Verizon tech who came to the house just blamed the electric meter box for RF interference and move the ONT farther away.
    My concern is that I'm getting different answers from different techs at Verizon.
    Regarding IP addresses. The Router shows a DHCP range from 192.162.1.2 to 192.168.1.254 as available for devices on the network. So, if I need to assign a static IP to a device should I use a number below 99 or above 151?
    Thanks!

  • Can I find out WHY FIOS is not availble in Smyrna, DE

    Yeah, yeah, yeah;
    I know the official words from Verizon - "Service is unavailable in my area, we are continously expanding...."
    We've had fiber on the poles for several YEARS now here in Smyrna (it was run down my street when they expanded the road / put in sidewalks).
    Zip code 19977 (Smyrna) has FIOS in New Castle County (I'm a mile into Kent)
    Cheswold (the next town south) has FIOS.
    Dover has FIOS.
    Even Felton has FIOS.
    Now, with Smyrna expanding at the rate of 10% per year (5000 households in 2000, 5000 new / approved houses since), I can't see this not being an area that Verizon wouldn't want to expand into.
    Currently, I am paying $80 / month to Verizon for phone and DSL, and another $90/ month for Digitial HD from Comcast. All for services that are LESS than what I could get for $99 or $109 / month w/ a FIOS bundle (higher speed + more channels)
    So, is this an issue like Wilmington where the local Town of Smyrna politicians are just playing hard-to-get, and want an outrageous amount of money in local franchise fees?  I wouldn't doubt it, since the local franchise fee on my cable service is high, my electric rate is inflated 60% above cost, etc.
    If this is the case, then can someone please contact me with any details? I will raise the issue at each and every town hall meeting (weekly) until it is resolved.  It is well worth it to save $70+ /mon !
    Thank You.
    James
    P.S.  FIOS would also eliminate the BAD and INSUFFICIENT copper that exists in Smyrna.  On my street, there is a notorious bad pair that when someone complains, the service tech comes out and simply moves it to another person of the street.  There are no additional pairs available, so...  The next time it rains hard, that line goes dead...
    I've gotten it 3 times in the past 3 years.
    *sigh*

  • Logic Pro 9 - MOTU MK II inputs not available in channel strip

    I usually use a MOTU 24 i/o as my main Logic Pro 9.1.5  audio interface. I'm trying to use a MOTU MK II and it is connected via firewire. It shows up fine in the Logic > Audio > core audio driver preference and is checked on. However the MKII in/outs are not available on Logic's channel strip inputs and outputs. Logic still shows the 24 i/o's even though the 24 i/o is not selected in audio preferences and is not even turned on.
    I've reinstalled the latest MOTU drivers, trashed Logic's preferences and restarted my MacPro but it is still the same. Only the 24 i/o available in the channel strip input and output.
    Is there a second audio i/o setting that I'm missing?
    My Mic is registering OK in the MKII so I know it is getting a signal.
    Thanks,
    Richard

    For some reason Logic is listing the 24 i/o inputs.
    I've renamed the 828 Mk2 1 & 2  inputs to Vox 1 and Vox 2.  The MK2 has 8 analog inputs plus two mic/line inputs for a total of ten audio inputs, not 14 as listed in the channel strip input drop down.
    Audio registers in and out of the Mk2 but does not register in Logic's channel strip input. I just switched back to the 24 i/o to test and audio registers fine in Logic's channel strip input with the 24 i/o. Just not with the MK2 selected as the audio source.
    I'm curious if anyone else has had this problem or if I'm missing an audio input setting somewhere.
    Thanks,
    Richard

  • Fios Optimizer not saving settings

    I noticed my internet speeds slowed down a bit last few days so I decided to run the optimizer and see if it said my settings were already optimized. I ran it as it said my pc was not optimzed, was successful, shut down the pc, booted it back up and ran it again to see if it said my setttings were already optimzed. It said my settings were not. I again ran it a 2nd time and its still saying my pc is not optimzed. What could the issue be?
    I did a speed test and saw no difference. When I was fully succesful awhile back with it things were better. For some reason its no longer saving the settings.
    Solved!
    Go to Solution.

    If it works properly for you the fios optimizer works great imo.
    http://my.verizon.com/micro/speedoptimizer/fios/default.aspx
    Open IE as an administrator and go to the above url. Run it, shut down the pc, and boot it back up. Then go check your speeds at somewhere like speedtest.net and see if its faster. When it works for me I do get higher speeds and to what I am paying for.
    There are other optimizers out there such as TCP Optimizer, but I honestly have no idea how to use it since you have to do things manually.

  • [~Solved] Dell Studio 1555 - temperatures not dropping enough

    Hello all,
    On a fresh Arch installation (base/base-devel + some basic stuff - xorg, mesa, ati open source driver, no DE), the fan remains constantly on and audible.
    I let the system stay idle overnight (about 6.5 hours) in order to stabilize temperatures, and checked the sensors as soon as I opened the lid (screen turned itself off).
    It's worth noting that fan was active in the morning, and I have no reason to believe it was not active all night.
    CPU - the CPU is Intel P8600. Using cpufrequtils, I made sure the current governor is "ondemand" and indeed the CPU ran at it lowest frequency (800Mhz) prior to leaving the system.
    GPU - the GPU is ATI mobility Radeon 4570. I used the Profile-based frequency switching, and echoed "low" as current profile (for the sake of testing), and indeed the GPU clocks ran at their lowest prior to leaving the system.
    Once I opened the lid, the sensors read as follows:
    acpitz-virtual-0
    temp1: 52
    temp2: 52
    temp3: 59
    radeon-pci-0100
    temp1: 60.5
    coretemp-isa-0000
    core0: 47
    core1: 47
    I suppose the first one is the motherboard the the following are GPU, CPU in that order.
    Now, for the sake of comparison, after taking the sensors measurement, I logged in to Windows 7, and waited a few minutes.
    Temperatures dropped in about 5-7 degrees (and I've seen it lower in the past), which was enough for the fan to become less active.
    This leads me to believe that the problem isn't in the fan itself, but rather with the temperatures that do not drop enough for the fan to calm itself down.
    Any ideas what else I should do in order to lower the temperatures?
    Thanks, Adam.
    * EDIT *
    Do tools like Laptop Mode Tools have an effect on temperature, or mainly on battery life?
    Last edited by adam777 (2012-05-31 17:41:03)

    OK, second overnight is done - a little better now that the dust is gone.
    This time I used dynpm for the GPU powersaving and not low, which might have caused the temperatures not to drop all the way down.
    I got a drop of ~5-7 degrees across the board, which makes the temperatures comparable to the Windows system (though, in turn, the Windows system also manage to drop the temperatures a bit more).
    Fan is still a bit too audible for my taste (not too bad, though), but I guess the only thing left at this point as far as CPU and GPU are concerned is switching to the ATI proprietary driver.
    I'm not sure about the proprietary driver, as it seems it cause some problems here and there.
    Adam.
    * EDIT *
    it's worth noting the above is done without a DE, I guess I can expect results to be worse once a DE is involved.

    I can't move photos from iPhoto to my secondary hard drive or to a burn folder.  I have never had a problem with this before.  This is something new.   They will not drop into either folder.  Nothing happens.
    I checked my secondary harddrive and there is plenty of memory.
    I emptied my burn folder but the photos still will not drop into it.
    I created a new burn folder, no luck with this either.
    230 photos is the maximum size of the events I am trying to move from iPhoto to save elsewhere.
    I have shut down and restarted my computer.   No change. The photos still will not drop out of iPhoto.
    My Mac Computer Storage shows that I have 62.2GB free out of 249.2GB (movies, photos and contacts taking up the most space)
    My Lacie External Harddrive (2TB capacity) shows that I have 1.79TB available.  It shows that 207,729,520,640 bytes (207.73 GB on disk) are used.
    I have never had this problem before.  It is usually very easy to move my photos from iPhoto.
    I am not a computer expert (I work in surgery so don't have a need for lots of computer knowledge) so please explain in simple terms.
    Thank you so much for any help you can provide.
    I really appreciate it.

    YES Terence!  Thank you. Exporting allowed me to move my photos from iPhoto into the Burn Folder on my desktop.   But that doesn't explain why I'm having to go that route now.   Have I done something (accidentally changed some setting) on my computer that will not allow me to just click and drag anymore?   I really liked the convenience of the click and drag option.
    I don't have the time tonight to export and burn a lot of CD/DVDs.  I'll try that tomorrow and make sure my photos are moving properly.  I also need to export photos to my external hard drive to make sure that route is working.
    Wouldn't you know that my Apple Care Plan runs out this Wednesday?!  I need to make sure everything is working properly before that expires.
    Thank you so much for your help.   I really, really appreciate it.

  • Apple Loops not dropping onto track area

    I hope someone can help.  I just upgraded to GB 11 and downloaded over a gig of apple loops. But whenever I drag a loop onto the blank track area it absolutely will not drop and creat the track as it is supposed to.   I can demo all loops, and I can drag one over, but it "sticks" to my cursor and will not drop.
    I have a MB Pro 2.4 GHz with 8GB ram, running OS X 10.6.8
    Anybody know a possible solution to my problem?
    Thank you.

    Weird. The same thing just started happening to me, but the loop sticks to my cursor and won't drop. I have to force-quit GB for christ sake. As I write this I see the small title of the loop superimposed onto my Safari window. What a weird glitch.

  • HT4044 Part of my iPad(1st gen) screen display does not show,hence I can only see it partially.It was not dropped and neither is it broken. Any help as I was told it cant be fixed and i hv 2 replace with a new unit i.e. pay in full as warranty is over? HE

    Part of my iPad screen display does not show. It was not dropped and neither is the screen broken. I was advised to see the local service provider for a diagnosis.
    I had finally managed to find time to find a local service provider last week (not easy) and was disappointed to be advised of Apple's policy of one for one exchange i.e. they wont repair and said that i would have to replace with a whole unit. As my unit is no longer under warranty, it meant that I had to pay for the full price of a new unit!
    I might as well have paid for the latest new unit but since my unit is only 2 years old at most, it would be a great waste of money.
    How can this be? Does this mean apple's product is inferior and do not last since warranty is only for one year?
    I sincerely hope there is a favourable solution otherwse my money is flushed down the drain.
    HELP!!!

    I was using my iPad last night, shut the power off and when I turned it on this morning 2/3 of the screen is not working.  It looks like the pandalela picture. What is the answer to fix this; is this a screen issue or and electronics issues.  Has anybody else experienced this?

  • Logging out does not drop me to console but a black screen

    Recent pacman -Syu upgraded me to latest xorg-server and I have this problem: logging out does not drop me back to console but a black screen and after 30 seconds, a blinking cursor. Nothing works and I have to reboot. If I choose to reboot (instead of logout) I get the same result except that eventually the computer reboots. Using nv - no problems. Using simple nvidia (single screen) - no problem. (I have a monitor and tv-out setup). Problem remains whether I use xfce4 or fluxbox. And the ctrl-alt-backspace keyboard shortcut results in the same black screen. Xorg.0.log tells me nothing. Before the upgrade, no problem.
    I usually use startx and I have ck-launch-session etc in my .xinitrc. I use the latest nvidia-96xx driver and have no other X problem. Everything works, including the tv-out.
    This is a minor inconvenience really and I usually switch to a console and as root killall X if I need to log myself out for any reason. But if anyone as a clue as to why this is so, or suffers the same problem, do let me know. Thanks.

    Thanks guys...
    @ckristi - I don't use kdm. I startx from console when I want to go into X.
    @madtux - I guess I will have to read up on kernel mode setting and KMS - I actually don't know what you are referring to although I have seen KMS refered to in this forum with reference to xorg. Any links? Do note no problems with nv and single monitor nvidia. Hopefully the cure is not worse than the disease.

  • How do I set up the XCode Debugger so that it does not drop into asm?

    How do I set up the XCode Debugger so that it does not drop into asm?
    I want to step through my Cocoa Objective-C code and I do not want to see the underlying assembly. When I hit step over, I want it to step to my next line of objective-C code, not to the next assembly language statement.
    99+% of the time, I want to do high level debugging. Don't you?

    I solved my own problem almost immediately after I posted it.
    You use Debug>Toggle Disassembly Display.
    It puts a check mark to drop into assembly, no check mark for no assembly (my choice) and a dash (NSMixedState) for both. It's obvious now.
    Sometimes it can be vexing to find simple XCode features quickly.

  • Help with Dreamweaver CS5 spry menus. Menu is not dropping down in IE7.

    Hello.
    We recently upgraded from GoLive CS3 to Dreamweaver CS5. Wow! This has been a big change for us. We are having trouble with a website that we are building, specifically the Spry Menu drop downs not appearing correctly in IE7 and older. While the dropdown menu appears in other browsers, it is not dropping down at all in IE7 and earlier versions. After researching this topic on many websites, including this forum, we are still unable to resolve our particular issue. We have tried many of the suggestions that are common to our problem, but have not found a solution as yet. Could someone please check out this page for us, and possibly give us some advise. We are working on Mac OSX. Thank you in advance for any suggestions you may offer.
    http://www.advertools.net/pgtdemo/index.html

    When I added the following to the document
    <style>
    #main_image {position:static;}
    </style>
    the menu items appeared albeit in the wrong position.
    The reason for the hidden menu items is because #main_image had a position of relative, effectively creating a flow of its own rather than following the natural flow of the document.
    Now for the postion of the submenu. If I add the following style rules to the document the submenu items are in the correct position
    ul.MenuBarHorizontal li {text-align: left;}
    ul.MenuBarHorizontal a {text-align: center;}
    In the first line I have reset the rule that you had changed to center align and in the second line (which is not in the original CSS) I have aligned the text in the anchor tag to align center.
    The reason is that IE<8 behaves differently to other browsers when it comes to list items causing the nested list items (submenu) to align themselves to the center of the text of the parent list item.
    I hope the above helps.

  • Horizontal submenus not dropping down correctly in IE7

    Hello, I am hoping somebody can help.
    I have a vertical and a horizontal menu bar in my page - the vertical seems to be ok; but the horizontal menubar has submenus and they do not drop down correctly from the menu bar in IE7. They work fine in Firefox.
    In my site for net newbies, this submenu is supposed to drop down from the main menu, not appear from the top of the browser.. any ideas?
