Firefox cache settings no longer working

Firefox cache settings that were working are no longer working, in Windows XP (x86) and Windows 7 (64).
By this I meant that I had set the cache to a ram-drive, but that is no longer being used, the cache is being written to disk instead in what is apparently the new default location, and my customized cache settings are ignored.
I've tried resetting Firefox to default and then re-applying them, but the problem still exists.
This is for FF 19+, but not sure when the problem first occurred - perhaps an earlier version too.
Is it no longer possible to re-direct the cache directory? How do you do it?

For jumpListCache , I found that setting browser.taskbar.lists.enabled to false prevents their capture:

  • I'm using the latest version of Firefox V29.0.1 Firefox cache settings no longer working for SWF files. can you help on

Firefox caching on SWF files (Adobe Flash files) are not caching at browser level. But the same SWF Files are caching at other browsers like Google Chrome and IE.
But when i see the about:cache service information, I can see SWF Files are there in the disk cache device. When ever i hit the same page, the SWF files are downloaded from the server not from the browser, but the fetch count for that SWF file will get increase in disk cache device. So it's taking time to load the SWF files every time when i hit the page.
I'm requesting your help on this SWF File caching.

  • Firefox loads, but no longer works. You can't type in the address bar, use help or anything. What do I do?

I can get Firefox to open, but other than that nothing works. It doesn't respond to type or the mouse. In fact, it acts like your keyboard or mouse are no longer working. Which they are.
It was working fine & then it just stopped.
I've tried uninstalling & re-installing. That didn't help, nor did going back to an older version. I even tried using Windows restore point & going back in time. Nothing has helped.
    My OS is Vista.
    Can anyone help me? Thanks.

Do a clean reinstall and delete the Firefox program folder before (re)installing a fresh copy of the current Firefox release.
Download a fresh Firefox copy and save the file to the desktop.
    *Firefox 21.0: http://www.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/all.html
Uninstall your current Firefox version, if possible, to cleanup the Windows registry and settings in security software.
*Do NOT remove personal data when you uninstall your current Firefox version, because all profile folders will be removed and you lose personal data like bookmarks and passwords from profiles of other Firefox versions.
Remove the Firefox program folder before installing that newly downloaded copy of the Firefox installer.
    *(32 bit Windows) "C:\Program Files\Mozilla Firefox\"
    *(64 bit Windows) "C:\Program Files (x86)\Mozilla Firefox\"
*It is important to delete the Firefox program folder to remove all the files and make sure that there are no problems with files that were leftover after uninstalling.

Your bookmarks and other personal data are stored in the Firefox profile folder and won't be affected by an uninstall and (re)install, but make sure that "remove personal data" is NOT selected when you uninstall Firefox.
If you keep having problems then also create a new profile.

  • Browser cache ignore no longer works after windows update

Just thought I'd share that after the windows update I did
this week, the browser cache blocking trick described in many
places where you put ?r=<randomnumber> at the end of a URL no
longer works. Not exactly sure what happened, but it now causes a
URL not found error, at least for me when I'm loading local files
    off my disk.
This thread talks about the cache blocking trick:

    Here's a technique I use. In a php file:
    header("Expires: Mon, 20 Jul 1997 05:00:00 GMT");
    header("Cache-Control: no-store, no-cache, must-revalidate");
    header("Cache-Control: post-check=0, pre-check=0", FALSE);
    header("Pragma: no-cache");
This must be wrapped in php tags.

  • Removing firefox proxy settings does not work until a restart?

When I transfer from my work network (with a proxy server) to my home network (no server), I have to restart the browser before it realizes that there is no proxy server that it has to authenticate with. Until I do this, (re)loading pages gives me an error.
However, when going the other way, it smoothly recognises that there is a server, and no restart is required to continue browsing
I have automatic proxy settings enabled. I have tried selecting 'no proxy server', but I still need to restart firefox for this to work.

  • New DVR Scheduler Bugs: Priority Settings No Longer Working, Scrolling Series Schedules is Flakey

    Hi,
After this last HD DVR update, I have two new problems:
    1) I can no longer set the priority of most of my series schedules. I have about 100 series schedule entries, which the DVR update probably wasn't tested for.
Now when I try to set a series priority, it LOOKS like it worked, but if I get out of DVR options and go back into Manage Recordings, 90% of the time I find that the series priority is either unchanged, or (even worse) has bounced up to some unexpected random priority - Thus, I have to search the series list  to find it - Then I cannot move it back to where it's supposed to be!
It seems that only moving a series priority a little bit will sometimes work, but moving the series from near the top of the list to near the bottom (or vice-versa) doesn't work at all, even though it may appear like it worked until the list is refreshed (either by paging up and down the list a few times, or by exiting the DVR manager and going back in).
    2) The scrolling is messed up now in the series schedule manager - When setting Priority, as I scrool up or down from the middle of the list using the arrow or Page buttons,  the list will end unexpectedly, making it impossible to actually drag the series to the bottom or top of the list. Then if you deposit the series at the "end" of the list, suddenly the rest of the list will then magically appear (of course, the series schedule you deposited there will no longer be where you deposited it - See problem #1). Obviously the list is running out of buffer space, so the next part of the list isn't being loaded while you're in the process of changing a series priority..
Scrolling is also messed up just scrolling through the list without changing priority: Scrolling through my series schedules USED to be very FAST and painless using the Page (Channel) up/down button, I could scroll from top to bottom of my 100 series schedules in a matter of like 5 seconds. NOW, it takes forever and is a real pain to scroll from top to bottom, because the scrolling pauses on just about every other page - As though it ran out of buffer space and is having trouble loading the next buffer.
I have a lot of series schedule entries so all the First-run Programs are at the top of the priority list, then all the re-runs are in the bottom half of the list. That's the only way I have found to prevent Re-Runs from hijacking new programs, since there's no DVR option to prevent re-runs from inteferring with new episodes (BTW, in order for this to work, the First-Run schedule must be created first. Then a duplicate First-Run and Reruns schedule must be created - Creating them in reverse order will throw a "Duplicate" error message).
The DVR software has always been buggy and feature-depribed, but this is rediculous - To think the programming team didn't even test the scrolling and priority of series schedules is as bad as the ObamaCare website, and that's setting a very low bar! You HAVE to test EVERYTHING when you release new updates, even if the programmers say it won't affect anything else, because from my experience programmers develop tunnel vision (been there, done that myself), and if you have more than one person on the programming team, neither programmer will communicate their changes to anyone else (been there, done that too).

I have the identical problem after the recent software upgrade which VERIZON did to my DVR.
In addition, I have "Manual Series" listed under the "Manage Series Recordings" section of my DVR for about 10 of the tv shows that I have tagged to be recorded weekly. Several others have reported this seemingly related problem to this forum.
I've tried twice to report the latter problem to VERIZON's technical support staff, but met with indifference in the first attempt (a guy recommended that I replace my DVR with a new one - an utterly ridiculous suggestion), and in my second attempt I got a somewhat helpful lady who couldn't correct this glitch and was unaware of others having same problem but promised to send it up the flagpole to higher level tech folks (best action that I realistically could get).
As I told VERIZON's techies, I likely was not the only customer experiencing these problems - and your and others postings to this forum confirm my initial hunch.  VERIZON leaves a lot to be desired in the testing of their software "upgrades".

  • Firefox Mac: Flash no longer works after upgrading to latest version of Yosemite.

I'm running the latest version of Yosemite and with the recent upgrade, I can't get any video (Flash, YouTube, etc.) to run using Firefox. Works fine in Safari and Chrome. I did all of the usual permission repairs, reboots, Firefox resets, etc. Nothing seems to work. Any advice?

With a bit more digging on the net... I fixed it!

  • Links that used to work with pre Firefox v4.0 no longer work

I need access to a work related website. the main page of the website opens up with out any issues, but when I click on any of the links nothing happens. This is a new issue that only started once I upgraded to Firefox 4.0. I previously had no issues using this website with Firefox before. I tried using the website with Explorer and had no issues.

    I have iPhone software 2.2.1 (SH11),
    MAC 0S X 10.5.5
    XCode 3.1.2
In organiser it says The Developer Disk Image could not be mounted.
Xcode could not find an appropriate Developer Disk Image to mount on Richard’s iPhone. Please contact Apple for the 2.2.1 (5H11) device support package.
Also in Xcode it says that the active sdk is Device - 2.2. There is no version 2.2.1 for me to select and I cannot add a new active SDK.
I have downloaded the iphonesdk_for_iphone_os2.2.19m2621afinal.dmg and tried installing it which had no effect to the error above.
I tried uninstalling Xcode then re-installing using this sdk but again no effect
I tried installing the iPhoneSDK_2.2 on its own but again no effect
I tried restoring the iPhone but again no effect
I've tried the above numerous times, restarting xcode and restating the complete system but still to no effect.
I am relatively new to MACs so I might be doing something wrong (ie not installing or uninstalling properly) but I am really lost now as to what to do.
    Please advise.
    Thanks
    Richard

  • Using Win 7 Pro, 64-bit OS SP1 w/ all updates; after upgrading to Firefox 21.0 the serch field in the middle of the Mozilla Firefox Start Page no longer works.

I can type in the search field. Clicking the mouse on the search button or hitting the "Enter" key has no effect. Search from the Firefox address bar or the search window at the top of Firefox browser still works normally. Never encountered this problem before. Have been using Firefox since it first came out.

Try to use the SearchReset extension to reset some preferences to the default values.
Note that the SearchReset extension only runs once and then uninstalls automatically, so it won't show on the "Firefox > Add-ons" page (about:addons).
Current Firefox versions use the default search engine (pref: browser.search.defaultenginename) to set the search engine that is used on the about:home page.
Check the <b>browser.search.defaultenginename</b> pref on the <b>about:config</b> page and make sure that it is set to the default value Google.

  • MobileMe settings no longer work in my email client?

    Hello!
Yesterday my third party email client settings for my MobileMe/iCloud email stopped working. I am using the imap.mail.me.com/smtp.mail.me.com settings and everything has been working fine until yesterday when they out of nowhere stopped working. Did something change on apple's servers that I need to change? I have checked at least a dozen times and the passwords/etc are correct as you all recommend. None of my icloud settings or password was changed. What could be going on? I have ssl required checked as well as everything else that is listed on this page: iCloud: Mail server settings for email clients
    Thanks in advance!

Those settings are correct. However non-Apple applications are asking for a password because Apple are now requiring app-specific password for third-party applications to access iCloud if you have set up two-step verification (in other words you have to obtain an individual password for any non-Apple program that wants to access iCloud).
Select 'Password and Security'; click 'Generate an App-Specific Password' and follow the instructions. Once you have the password, copy it and paste it into the password field in the application. You should also keep a note of it (though you can generate a new one if required).
If you haven't set up 2-step verification for your Apple ID then it's something else has gone wrong. You don't say what your system is (please always do). If it's a Mac using 10.7.5 or above, uncheck Mail in the list in System Preferences>iCloud and recheck it. If Windows, the same in the iCloud Control Panel. If you are using a Mac earlier than 10.7.5 please see

  • SMTP settings no longer work

Up until recently, the following SMTP settings worked fine for sending emails:
    Server: smtp.mail.me.com
    port: 587
Authenticate with user email and password is sent with user typically being <user>@mac.com
    Require SSL
Now, I am getting a fail to send error message" "The SMTP server requires a secure connection or the client was not authenticated. The server response was 5.7.0 No AUTH command has been given".
Does anyone have any idea what is going on or if there is a different port now in use or ???
    Thanks!

"Virtually Nothing" has posted a solution to this in a separate thread.  I don't know how to link to it so have cut and pasted below.  By following these instructions I was immediately able to get icloud mail working on the Windows Phone 7 & 8 devices (I've not yet tried Outlook on Windows 8).
Hopefully you'll have similar luck with this.  It's worth searching on the thread that goes with the message below just to get some additional context from others.  Seems like a messy way to get something fixed.

This worked for me, too.  Windows 7/Outlook 2007.  Only change the Outgoing Mail setting.  So here's what's working:
    IMAP (Incoming Mail Server) information:
        Server name: imap.mail.me.com
        SSL Required: Yes
        Port: 993
Username: [email protected] (use your @me.com address from your iCloud account)
        Password: Your iCloud password
    SMTP (outgoing mail server) information:
        Server name: p06-smtp.mail.me.com
        SSL Required: Yes
        Port: 587
        SMTP Authentication Required: Yes
Username: [email protected] (use your @me.com address from your iCloud account)
        Password: Your iCloud password

  • "When Firefox starts" settings do not work?

In Firefox: "Tools" "Options" "General" "When Firefox starts" "Show my windows and tabs from last time" does not work. Every time I close Firefox and re-open (even after a re-boot) Firefox opens in the defined Homepage (http://www.mozilla-europe.org/en/firefox/). I have tried altering the setting then re-setting it but always the same.
In Version 3.6.12 I never had a problem. Is there something I can do?

This problem occurs on the Juno webmail site?
I assume you are doing something different than just correcting the squiggly red underlined words. How are you spell-checking the email: using an add-on or using a feature of the Juno webmail site? If it's an add-on, which one is it?

  • Lately when using Firefox the mouse no longer works and no links or tabs can be selected. The only way to get the mouse to work is to switch windows with ctrl+tab

The mouse is completely unavailable, not even able to select anything on the taskbar or start button.
When this started happening I had to restart firefox, then I tried opening the task manager to see if anything was hogging resources and I found simply opening the task manager freed up the mouse, then I found simply using alt+tab to switch windows did it, then I discovered using alt+tab to cycle through the available windows straight back to firefox does it.
