  • I had to change a password stored in Firefox, and now I cannot get Firefox to remember a new password.

As stated, I was required to change a password, yet the old password still appeared in the field, so I went into settings and deleted the old one, but now I cannot get Firefox to save the new password. And yes, I have wasted a lot of time attempting the "solutions" on the help sites, but nothing has worked. Thank you for any help.

Make sure that you do not run Firefox in (permanent) Private Browsing mode (Never remember history).
The website may be using autocomplete=off to prevent Firefox from saving form data like name and password.
You can remove autocomplete=off with a bookmarklet to make Firefox store form data like names and passwords.
Note that Firefox won't auto-fill saved form data automatically when autocomplete=off is used, so you need to double-click the empty name field to get a drop-down list.

  • After updating firefox (on MAC), everytime I start Firefox there is an open installation dialog box - which I cannot figure out how to delete.

I have used Firefox without problem, on my Mac, for several years. I recently updated to v22.0. Now every time I open Firefox, there is a dialog box (marked "Firefox , 2 items") that appears, with the Firefox icon, and arrow pointing right, and a folder icon. It looks like I am asked to install Firefox again. I've done this several times, but the dialog box never disappears. I have right-clicked, and hit "eject firefox only." The dialog disappears, but then reappears the next time I open Firefox. Firefox seems to be functioning normally, but this installation glitch is annoying. How can I resolve this?

More info, in case it helps anyone else with this problem:
I got a PM from waycool007 on 10/12/13 which said,
    Hi Alice -
Thanks for trying to help me - regarding the question regarding the firefox dialog box.
I am opening firefox from the icon on my dock. It then opens the annoying installation/dialog box.
If I open firefox from the applications folder, it actually opens properly.
    ... to which I answered,
You need to close Firefox if open and then delete the Firefox icon that is in the dock. You can then start Firefox from the applications folder and, when the new Firefox icon shows up in the dock, use the control click option to keep it there.
Let me know if this fixes it.
    I just got this reply:
I followed your instructions, and Firefox is now working normally. This has been bugging me for at least two months, and you solved it in a minute. Wow. Thanks!
    (You're welcome!)

  • Firefox completely unresponsive - cannot Quit, use Safe Mode, Reinstall OR Uninstall

I installed Firefox less than a month ago. Two days ago it suddenly quit while browsing. This didn't seem like a problem, really - I thought I'd just restart it - but it REMAINS open. The icon shows in my dock (on Mac) and the menu bar appears when I click the icon. I can browse menu selections but cannot choose one.
    I CANNOT:
    - Quit Firefox - either from the menu or with Ctrl+Q
    - Open New Window
    - Open Help
    - Access "Troubleshooting Information"
    - Select "Restart with Add-Ons Disabled..."
    - Use Safe Mode
Because I cannot use Safe Mode, and cannot Quit the program, I CANNOT:
    - Uninstall (it refuses to delete, because the program is "open," as it won't quit)
    - Reinstall (I cannot override the existing because the program is "open")
    - Remove it from my Dock
    - ...pretty much anything else.
I've read many articles discussing Troubleshooting, Safe Mode, Clean Reinstalls, etc., but unfortunately I cannot do any of these because Firefox remains open but completely unresponsive.
(PS - I tried to install the Troubleshooting Information below, but, again, because Firefox is unresponsive, I couldn't open it lol - there was "no available application" to read it. I cannot go through the manual steps because I cannot access the Troubleshooting Information on the Help menu and so cannot even begin step 1.)
If anyone has any suggestions, I would GREATLY appreciate it! Thank you very much for your time and help!

If qutting it is cause issues try holding the option key while you click the icon on the dock and choose force quit from the list!
Also have you tired the Rest fire fox feature (that is if your able to get to it)
    To do so:
#Go to Firefox > Help > Troubleshooting Information.
    #Click the "Reset Firefox" button.
#Firefox will close and reset. After Firefox is done, it will show a window with the information that is imported. Click Finish.
#Firefox will open with all factory defaults applied.

  • I want to download Firefox for Mac OS 10.4.11, but it downloads Firefox 4 even when I click on 3.6 0r 3.5. How can I download the correct Firefox for Mac OS 10.4.11??

I have Mac OS 10.4.11. My Mac Laptop Pro has a new hard drive and has been completely refurbished by Apple. However ever since, I have not been able to obtain the correct Firefox. Prior to the replacement of my hardrive, I had Firefox and used it for many years. Not being able to download the correct Firefox is frustrating. Firefox 4 will NOT work on Mac OS 10.4.11. But every time I click on a download of 3.5 or 3.6 the download turns out to be Firefox 4. I cannot use Firefox 4, do not want Firefox 4 but it keeps trying to plant itself on my computer even though it will NOT work on my computer. YIKES!!!!

There is a third party version of Firefox 4 that runs on OS X 10.4/10.5 and PPC Macs, for details see http://www.floodgap.com/software/tenfourfox
If you prefer, you can get the latest version of Firefox 3.6 from http://www.mozilla.com/en-US/firefox/all-older.html

    Hello,
    Welcome to Adobe Forums.
Do you have a MAC or Windows ?

  • Firefox is not responding after clicking on symbol, Cannot delete firefox because it tells me that it is still open! Windows 7 64 bit

Firefox is not responding at all. Would like to delete it and reinstall, however when trying to uninstall a message appears that I first have to close firefox! In short: cannot delete firefox, cannot reinstall, cannot use it. Operating system Windows 7, 64 bit, Sony VAIO Laptop PCG 81213M. Firefox has been working fine before. IE is working fine.

This may help if you have had the same problem as me on occasions.
Right click on a blank area of the Task-Bar. Select "Start task manager" from the menu that appears. Along the top of the "Task manager window" select the "Processes" tab. You will see a list of running processes. Scroll down the list until you see Firefox. Highlight it and click on the "end process" button at the bottom right. Click "end process" on the warning popup that appears. Firefox should disappear from the list. Now you should be able to start it or uninstall. If Firefox doesnt appear in the list at all then this fix is not for you. Hope this helps.

  • Where is the 'firefox for mac' download button?

    Hi,
I've read the mozilla article on downloading firefox for mac, and it shows a download firefox for mac button. As suggested I went to http://mozilla.org/firefox , but there is no such button there, nor was there any indication that the promised 'detecting the right firefox version for your computer' took place. Do I just go ahead with the install or do I need to look elsewhere on the mozilla site for that firefox for mac button?
Mozilla Firefox please update your 'firefox for mac' article!
Thanks in advance to anyone able to advise me.

That page will suggest to you automatically download the last version or you can download from here:

  • On Mac OS X snow leopard, when I quit firefox 4, all the app tabs I set up get deleted. Is that suppose to happen? on your website it says that when you close firefox and reload the browser the app tabs should be there on start up?

When I close the firefox browser but I do not quit the program entirely, the app tabs remain as I had originally set them up.
But when I fully quit firefox. All the app tabs I set up are gone and I have to set them up all over again every time.

Here's what happened in safe boot mode.
I click on apple logo > software update > see's that Super Drive 3.0 is checked > click install
I wait for the install to go through.
First pop up says " There was a problem installing this update" Quit all apps before installing bla bla bla... I noticed a sound when this pop up appeared. It's the sound of when you restart the macbok. There is another popup behind this saying that software update has been sucessfully installed.
So what I did first was click "quit" on the popup saying "There was a problem installing this update".
then I clicked "ok" where it said that the software installation update was successfully installed.
I get another pop up which is the Software Update window. I let it look for any updates and it then says that my software is up to date. I noticed that Super Drive 3.0 is listed and cannot be checked [x]. There's a Check mark with a green circle around it.
I quit the software update window and click on apple logo > software update and let it do its thing. Next thing you know, It says that Super Drive 3.0 needs to be updated. I also checked the SERIAL ATA and still shows rev. CP06.
I just recently installed this mac os X so there is no "important" data on this laptop. I don't have any money for OS Lion or Mavrick nor meet the system req to run it. 2gb to 4gb is expensive for a ddr2 800 200 pin ram
