Firefox crashes/hangs when clicking on bookmark toolbar links

Hello. I have had an issue for the last 6-8 months at least, where during daily use, Firefox will crash or frequently hang when clicking on a frequently used bookmark on the bookmarks toolbar. One such bookmark opens a pop up window to enter data and uses javascript, but it also happens with other bookmarks. The error prompt firefox shows is "Plugin Container for Firefox has stopped working" and sometimes, not always, give me a chance to make/send a crash report, which I have done several times. I then have to restart the browser. The crashes don't happen every time I click on a bookmark, but at least a few times a day. Sometimes, the browser will instead hang for 3-10 seconds and will not crash.
I have gone through all the normal troubleshooting suggestions. Not long ago, in an attempt to find a solution, I made a new Firefox profile and enabled as few extensions and plugins as possible. The crashes still happened. I have more extensions and plugins installed now, but still as few as possible. The computer is virus and spyware free.

Any help would be appreciated. Attaching a recent crash report, I have more available.

I ran Firefox all yesterday with hardware acceleration off. It didn't crash but began to hang for a few seconds a few times when I clicked on a toolbar link. Today I experienced more hangs, and it did finally just crash like usual.
Not sure if it helps but I'll include the new crash report.

  • Since Firefox 32.0 was downloaded on 3/9/14 I am experiencing brief hanging when clicking onto websites or links. Is this a problem with the new version of Fire

If I click onto any link or webpage I am quite often getting a briefing 'hanging' before Mozilla responds. I also get a message at the top of my screen stating that Firefox is not responding and the loading symbol justs spins in circles until it eventually frees up and opens the page. Prior to Firefox 32.0 being downloaded on 3/9/14 I had no problems with this 'hanging' at all. I can only assume it is a Firefox issue as I do not have the same issues if I use Internet Explorer or any other programs installed on my computer.

  • Bookmarks menu used to work fine. Recently, now when clicking the "bookmarks" menu, it says, "sign in to access your Google bookmarks," but it does no good.

    Running Firefox 3.6.3.
The "bookmarks" menu is at the top of the page.
The "bookmarks" menu used to work fine.
Now when clicked, the "bookmarks" menu says, "Sign in to access your Google bookmarks."
After signing in to Google, the "bookmarks" menu still does not work, and continues to repeat the "Sign in to access your Google bookmarks."

Looks like Google changed the domain for Google accounts. You'll need to edit the Google Toolbar extension to have the new URL. The alternative id for Google to update their Google Toolbar program for Firefox, but I doubt of that will happen - they have recently dropped support for Firefox. I found these instructions in another support forum.
Open up toolbar.js with a decent editor.
    Find:
    www.google.com/accounts
    and replace ALL with:
    accounts.google.com
    Restart FF.
    Login through the toolbar. Enjoy.
My advice is to get your bookmarks from Google and import them into Firefox itself. If you want a backup service for your bookmarks, use Firefox Sync or Xmarks instead of Google Bookmarks.

I usually have 3-4 tabs open which I am saving to read later. But I loose them all the time when firefox crashes or when another appliaction opens firefox to download something and it will discard all my tabs. This is incredibly annoying, is there a way to save my tabs ? or get them back when there is no "restore session" button ?

In Firefox Options / Privacy be sure "Remember download history" is checked. To see all of the options on that panel, "Firefox will" must be set to "Use custom settings for history".
To find your OS information, on your Windows desktop, right-click the My Computer icon, choose Properties, under System on that small window is info about your OS.

  • Firefox crashes and when attempting to launch after the crash it won't and throw and error msg that js.3250 can't be found- but same file is in Mozilla directory. I must then download new 3.6.8 and lose all tabs.

    # Question
Firefox crashes and when attempting to launch after the crash it won't launch; throwing an error msg that " js.3250 can't be found" - but same file is in Mozilla directory.
I must then download new 3.6.8 and lose all tabs and history.

I have a similar problem. Recently my FF8 has been crashing a lot. It regularly locks up an entire core of my PC and often just shuts down. It has just done it a moment ago and when it started back up it did the whole "this is embarrassing" thing and asked me if I wanted to reload my tabs. I deselected the one that I was trying to view as I suspected that it may have been the cause (unlikely; it was node4.co.uk) but anyway, let's skip it just in case. Click on the button to restore and up pops my homepage only. So all of my other tabs, which I was using for work incidentally, are gone.
This is not the first time this has happened on FF8. It happened a lot recently on FF6 I think it was (so hard to keep track now, Mozilla) and I switched to Chrome as a result, but it turns out that it crashes even more than FF6 did. FF7 was a vast improvement but FF8 is so unstable/unpredictable for me at the moment that I think I'd rather use IE9 than this. It's driving me mental, clearly! I wish I could kill the process manually and have it retry restoring tabs. Hey, there's an idea Mozilla; give us a menu item that allows us to restore the session to how it started to try again or at the very least get a list of the pages we were looking at. They don't show up in Recently Closed Windows and the Restore Previous Session is greyed out too. Gah! Help!

  • Safary hangs, when clicking on the link to *.dmg or *.zip file

    Hello!
Safary hangs, when clicking on the link to *.dmg or *.zip file. If I choose "save to downloads" from drop-down menu, everything is ok, but it's not always possible to choose that on the link. For example, if I try to download and install Safary from apple web page -safary perfectly hangs.
Sometimes I have to use other windows notebook in order to get some file from net. Its unbeliveble

    HI,
    Try maintenance..
From the Safari Menu Bar, click Safari / Empty Cache. When you are done with that...
From the Safari Menu Bar, click Safari / Reset Safari. Select the top 5 buttons and click Reset.
Go to ~/Library/Safari and move the "Downloads.plist" file to the Trash.
Go here for trouble shooting 3rd party plugins or input managers which might be causing the problem.
    http://support.apple.com/kb/TS1594
Make sure Safari is running in 32-bit mode. Right or control click the Safari icon in the Applications folder, then click: Get Info In the Get Info window click the black disclosure triangle next to General so it faces down. Select 32 bit mode. Also, (in that same window) make sure Safari is NOT running in Rosetta.
If you need to reinstall Safari, reinstall from your Mac install disc. Insert the Mac install disk. Open the Optional Installs folder, then open Optional Installs.mpkg An Installer will start... click Continue. When you get to the Installation Type in the window on the right you will see: Applications. Click the Disclosure triangle so it faces down. Select Safari and click continue.
Make sure you have enough free disk space on your Mac. Right or control click the MacintoshHD icon. Click Get Info. In the Get Info window you will see Capacity and Available. Make sure you always have a minimum of 10% to 15% free disk space at all times.
If nothing above helps, please post a crash log.
How to locate a crash log:
    1. Open Finder.
    2. Click "Go" in the menu, then select "Go to Folder".
    3. Copy and paste this path into the Finder dialog:
~/Library/Logs/CrashReporter/
    4. Click the Go button.
    5. Finder opens the folder containing the crash log. Look for a the crash file with a date field that looks *like the most recent.*

  • Firefox crashes (hangs) while printing pdf (or xps)

Firefox crashes/hangs whenever I try to print pdf using Adobe Acrobat V9.5. I updated Acrobat to XI but the problem didn't go away. It crashes the same way when I try to print to xps as well.
I have to force close the browser and I see Acrobat (or XPS) conversion dialog stuck somewhere at middle afterwards.
I don't have problem printing to pdf from other applications including other browsers (Chrome and IE9). Uninstall/reinstall (complete removal including profile), reset, disabling all addons and extensions, none of these worked. Although the problem goes away when I use Firefox in safe mode. What could be the problem here? I tried disabling all addons and extensions without luck.
I saw similar problem in another thread (https://support.mozilla.org/en-US/questions/994052?esab=a&as=aaq) which says it got solved after updating to V29. But I have this problem at office where I use ESR release channel currently at V24.6.
Can anyone confirm that this is a Firefox bug and has been fixed in V29? If so I can wait until next month when ESR channel jumps to V31.
    PS: I use Windows 7.
Thanks in advance for any suggestion or help.
    Peace

Try toggling the status of hardware acceleration under Options → Advanced → General, then restart Firefox.
    * [[Advanced settings for accessibility, browsing, system defaults, network, updates, and encryption|Advanced settings for… hardware acceleration]]
If there's no problem in Safe Mode, that suggests an issue with an add-on, a preference or a file in the profile, or hardware acceleration. Since you've already ruled out the other two, hardware acceleration is all that's left to try.

For me, Firefox will simply not print to XPS, though Internet Explorer doesn't have any trouble. Others have reported hanging when text is pasted into the "Save As" dialog. I haven't seen any reports of crashes, though that may be specific to the older version of Firefox you're using.

How are you saving a new bookmark?
There 5 ways to save a new Bookmark in Firefox, the first 4 should offer to save the new bookmark in a folder:
    1.
    2. Right-click and select Bookmark this Page.
    3. Bookmarks > Bookmark this Page
    4. Double-click the Star that is on the right side of the Location bar.
4a. (A single-click on the Star will save the new Bookmark to the Unsorted Bookmarks folder, without opening the Edit this Bookmark dialog.)
    5. Drag the website image in the URL bar into the Sidebar view of Bookmarks
or to the Bookmarks menu bar item and then into the drop-down or onto the Bookmarks Toolbar

Firefox crashes - even when not using the computer
Sometimes I can walk away from the computer and only have one tab open (e.g. Facebook) and when I come back to the computer a few hours later, Firefox has crashed for no reason.
