Firefox doesn't remember open tabs

When Firefox restarts, it just starts with https://www.google.com instead of my previously opended tabs and windows (including my standard fastened tabs of gmail, google+, google calender and facebook). The problem arrived with version 29. The option of using the last session as standard is greyed out in settings.
I'll go back to the last working version of Firefox while you fix this one. Version 29 is obviously not ready for use yet.

Are you using the firefox in Private Browsing Mode if so, it won't remember your opened tabs.
if not, reset your firefox
The Reset Firefox feature can fix many issues by restoring Firefox to its factory default state while saving your essential information. <br>
Note: This will cause you to lose any Extensions and some Preferences.
*Open websites will not be saved in Firefox versions lower than 25.
To Reset Firefox do the following:
#Go to Firefox > Help > Troubleshooting Information.
#Click the "Reset Firefox" button.
#Firefox will close and reset. After Firefox is done, it will show a window with the information that is imported. Click Finish.
#Firefox will open with all factory defaults applied.

• Firefox is not saving open tabs when closing, it says other session of Firefox is running but this is not the case.

Firefox used to save open tabs when closing the browser. This no longer happens and Firefox says other session running. Task Manager shows that this is not the case.
Recently installed an flv/mpeg viewer "aLot" which placed a toolbar in Firefox.
Am running Firefox 3.0.5 on Windows XP with Service Pack 3.

Your useragent says your are running Firefox 3.6.13 -> is that true.
If not, do the following and post back your new Firefox version:
* Type about:config in the URL bar and hit Enter
* If you see the warning, you can confirm that you want to access that page.
* Filter = general.useragent.
* Right-click the preferences that are bold, one line at a time, and select Reset.
* Then restart Firefox

Hi Robert,
check this article, you'll get step by step procedure to import your data from Chrome: http://mzl.la/18pHyVO

Plenty of bookmarks transferred over (including many that appear loads of times!) but not a single tab or window from my last Chrome session. Guess I may just have to do it all manually?

• Firefox won't remember the tabs from when I closed it out last.

I signed out of my laptop to go and do something else, and when i rebooted it, and clicked on firefox it came up with my homepage, Bing, instead of the five other tabs I had had on it. As a test, I pulled up two different tabs, Facebook and DeviantArt, and I purposefully closed it again, hoping it was only a minor problem. When I clocked back onto it, it was Bing again. I've gone to tools, options, and looked under the start up settings, and it says it will remember tabs from the last session, but it isn't, and when i look under history, it only says Bing, even though I've been using firefox for over a year and i have more history than that. It's a very annoying problem since i just got used to the layout, and i don't like internet explorer, so i would very much appreciate if someone could help with my problem.

If you use Clear Recent History in Firefox 3.5/6 or Clear Private Data in Firefox 3 to clear the 'Browsing History' when Firefox is closed then restoring tabs from the last session (e.g. "Save & Quit" or "Show my windows and tabs from last time") doesn't work.
Make sure that you not run Firefox in Private Browsing mode.
In Private Browsing mode some menu items are disabled (grayed) and features like visited links and disabled and not available.
You are in Private Browsing mode if you see "Tools > Stop Private Browsing", possibly grayed.
You enter Private Browsing mode if you select: Tools > Options > Privacy > History: Firefox will: "Never Remember History"
To see all History settings, choose: Tools > Options > Privacy, choose the setting Firefox will: Use custom settings for history
Uncheck: [[ ] "Automatically start Firefox in a private browsing session"

• Firefox doesn't remember the last used download directory that I saved to when it restarts!

Even when I have firefox set to ask me where to save files, it's default location is still the folder selected under "download options", instead of the last location I saved to.
I suspect that this has something to do with the "download.lastdir" option in "about:config", which disappears everytime it's restarted and only appears when I have saved a file before checking on it.
Firefox used to remember the last location in which a file was saved. This was simpler and more convenient.
Is there a way to solve this problem?
== This happened ==
Every time Firefox opened
== I installed version 3.6.6

Deleting "browser.download.lastDir" makes firefox unusable.
It's very annoying. I'm sick of the update to 3.6. It's getting worse with each minor update.
Hour after hour researching about this odd behavior sucks!

• Firefox 12 won't open tabs; just new windows. What's up?

I just updated to the latest version FF 12. After the update I can't open tabs anymore. There isn't even a button to open a new tab. The "Open link in New Tab ..." command opens the link in a new window instead.
It doesn't seem like a configuration problem. I was just wondering if a patch or fix update will be coming out soon?
In the meantime I have to use Chrome as a backup, and it's kind of a drag. :(

Sorry, that's the first thing I tried. I checked all the options in the tools panel that could have an effect on tabs. Nothing fixed it.
It's a bug in the new update. They did something or forget to put something back in the latest build that was there before.
Tabs are broken.
Could someone post a download link to version 11. I'd like to uninstall and revert to the previous version. Because this one isn't ready yet.

• Firefox doesn't remember the window size

I recently upgraded my monitor and got a larger one. Now when I open FF it opens at a maximized window that doesn't fill the entire screen. So I'm forced to "minimize" it and "re-maximize" it. But when I close it does not remember the true maximized screen size.
I already tried clearing localstore.rdf and by resetting menus under Safe Mode, but neither option worked.

If Firefox is maximized then unmaximize to make the window smaller and close Firefox to save that setting.
After restarting you can maximize again.
Window sizes and positions are stored in localstore.rdf in the Profile Folder.
Delete localstore.rdf or rename to localstore.rdf.sav in the Profile Folder to test if the file is corrupted.
See http://kb.mozillazine.org/Corrupt_localstore.rdf
(caution: do not delete the localstore.rdf file in the Firefox program installation folder)
Note:
Deleting the file localstore.rdf will reset the customizations of the toolbars to the defaults.
You can rename localstore.rdf to localstore.rdf.sav to test if that solves it.
Then you can restore the customization by copying localstore.rdf.sav to localstore.rdf if it didn't work.

• Firefox won't automatically open tabs from my previous session.

I have literally tried everything, from the general option menu to directly using about:config to fix this problem. It happens all the damn time, and after dicking with it, I can usually fix it, but this time, I cannot get firefox to restore tabs from my previous session. I have it set to restore my previous session in the general options menu, it warns me when I close multiple tabs, private browsing is disabled. I don't know what else to do. I've scoured this site and tried every solution I could find, but none of them are working.
Firefox had frozen, so I had to ctrl/alt/del to close it, and when I restarted it, my session was gone forever. I've done this before and it's never dicked with the settings. I realize that there's a 'restore previous session' option in the history, but I want it to load automatically.
It's getting really bothersome with the amount of times firefox has done this.

Go to Tools
then Options
In privacy choose Remember History
Then go to
General Tab
At the start up drop down menu when firefox starts select
show my windows and tabs from last time
That should fix things

• Firefox doesn't always open when I click the icon

I am running Windows 7, and was running Firefox 6. I just upgraded to 8. Regardless of the version of Firefox, however, there are times when I click the Firefox icon to start it (or try to open from a program list), yet a window doesn't open.
Judging by the task manager, it's actually running - there is just no visible window. Sometimes I can get it to start by "opening" it and ending the process in the task manager a few times, but sometimes I have to completely restart my computer to get Firefox to actually open.

Try to close Firefox via "File > Exit" if you are currently doing that by clicking the close X on the title bar.

• Filevault doesn't remember "open with" default app

Hi All,
I just wanted to start a new thread as this topic seems to be outrageously stupid and still NOT FIXED!
Related thread: http://discussions.apple.com/thread.jspa?threadID=1781001&tstart=15
Basically if you want to use filevault to encrypt HD then when you restart the mac then your "open with" application gets lost.
Can someone from Apple please comment on this and tell me if this is a registered bug!?
Thanks,
jt2009

you can file a bug report but this is an old and a known bug so it's sure to be in the system already

• Photoshop Elements Editor 11 Mac doesn't remember open files

I just installed PSE 11 on my Mac (OS X 10.8.2). My previous version (PSE 6) would re-open all files that had been open when I quit the app last time, but this version always opens with a blank screen. I can't find any preference in PSE to affect this, and the overall Mac setting is set properly. How can I get PSE to remember what files I was working on?

The File->Open Recent files show recent files list. If you are talking about files automatically reopens in PSE then there is an option on Mac under Settings->general which says "Restore..."
Also found an issue with 10.8 here http://forums.macrumors.com/showthread.php?t=1326035
Please see if it helps.

• Firefox didn't remember my tabs upon shutting down

I downloaded the newest firefox when prompted. Shut down my computer, but firefox did not ask me to save my tabs, like it used to. Got home, turned on the computer...no saved tabs. Annoying! I want my old ff back! I don't like the new layout, either.

Firefox 4 saves the previous session automatically, so there is no longer need for the dialog asking if you want to save the current session.<br />
You can use "Firefox > History > Restore Previous Session" to get the previous session.<br />
There is also a "Restore Previous Session" button on the default <b>about:home</b> Home page.<br />
Another possibility is to use:<br />
*Firefox > Preferences > General > Startup: "When Firefox Starts": "Show my windows and tabs from last time"<br />
Make sure that you do not use Clear Recent History to clear the 'Browsing History' when you close Firefox.

• On one site, Mozilla Firefox doesn't remember my Password any more, but Internet Explorer does.

Yesterday, I accessed the website for my bank. I entered the account #, then the password. I received an error message on the password, although I was almost sure the password was correct. I clicked "don't remember password" and was given the very password I had entered. I was really puzzled, but tried it again. It still didn't work. I then tried Internet Explorer at the advice of my bank rep. I created a new password on Internet Explorer, and was able to get right through to the website. Later, I tried Mozilla Firefox again with the original password. Again, the password was not accepted, but when I asked to access the correct password, I was given the new password I had entered on Internet Explorer. I'm very confused. Please help!

Hey Mez115, awesome to hear and thanks for reporting back! =)

• Firefox doesn't remember that I ask it not to enable cookies

I keep ticking off 'accept cookies from sites' and at every new session it is ticked on again. Firefox remembers all my other privacy settings. I have just uninstalled Firefox (I was on version 3-something) and reinstalled it (Firefox 4.0) but the problem remains. I recently had two infestations of viruses that masquerade as anti-virus and although scans say my PC is clean, I wonder if this might be an after-effect.

Start Firefox in Safe Mode to check if one of the add-ons is causing the problem (switch to the DEFAULT theme: Tools > Add-ons > Appearance/Themes).
* Don't make any changes on the Safe mode start window.
