Firefox not firing the IOErrorEvent

Firefox not firing the IOErrorEvent when load fails due to
unavailability of internet connection in URLLoader.
I am loading data in my application based on user actions. If
the user is disconnected and he makes a request for data load, the
IOErrorEvent tied to the URLLoader object is not being thrown in
firefox. The same thing works fine for IE where on IOErrorEvent I
am displaying appropriate message but in case of firefox nothing is
happening.
Any ideas about what is going on.

I guess we don't have a lot of .Net developers on this site.
Obviously your server-side .Net code has to be translated into corresponding client-side JavaScript in order to add event handlers to the page. And errors running that JavaScript should appear in the Error Console (Ctrl+Shift+j).
If the console doesn't provide any insight, can you provide a link to the page that has the problem? Then it would be possible to view the code that Firefox actually is (or is supposed to be) executing.

  • Firefox not remember the homepage

    I have recently upgraded to Firefox v 4.0.1, and this version does not remember the homepage that I set. It will remember it (i.e. I can navigate away to another page, and click on the homepage icon, and the correct homepage opens) until I close down Firefox and re-open, then this page http://www.searchqu.com/406
    comes up as the homepage.
    Any suggestions welcome.

    Run free malwarebytes from http://www.malwarebytes.org/ to get rid of searchqu and then Firefox should remember your homepage. It did for me.

  • Why would Firefox not show the latest version of a web site?

    At www.brunswickharley.com, Firefox 3.6.3 (on Windows XP SP3) kept showing an obsolete version of the site. IE showed the latest version. I haven't encountered this before. Is it the web site or Firefox?
    I can't review the site's code because I copied the URL of the page I wanted from IE to Firefox, so now Firefox shows the right page.

    I contacted company, Brunswick Harley, and was told that they knew about the problem. Then I contacted the web site developer, who said Brunswick Harley inserted material in the web site that couldn't be viewed in Firefox.
    Both of them said they were working on the problem. Neither said exactly what it was, but it must have been a feature that only IE supports. So I guess Firefox is off the hook.

  • How do I make Firefox not open the homepage in new windows?

    Hi. I have a collection of 4 pages set to open every time I start Firefox. Whenever I need to open a new window, my 4 pages open again.
    I would like to have those 4 pages open only the first time I start the browser, because I never close them. Obviously I don't need them open again.
    How can I set it so that these 4 pages open the first time I start my browser, but only have a blank page open the next time I select "open new window."
    Even more ideal would be to have the choice to open my homepages or a blank page (in case for some reason they do get closed).
    Any solution that takes more than one extra step is one extra step too many. Otherwise, I'd simply just x out of three of my pages and change the URL of the 4th.
    I'm not entirely technically minded, so if yours is a technical solution, I thank you in advance for clearly laying out the steps one-by one.
    Cheers.

    One possibility would be to change how you open a new window. You can create a bookmark for Firefox's '''about:blank''' page and then, to open it in a new window, shift+click the bookmark.
    (To create it, right-click the Bookmarks Toolbar or Bookmarks Menu near where you want to add it and choose New Bookmark. Enter about:blank in the Location and any description you like in the Name, then click Add Bookmark.)
    But that might be difficult to remember or inconvenient, so the next thought would be to bookmark your 4 home pages as a group in a single folder on your Bookmarks Toolbar or Bookmarks Menu, as you prefer. If you ''middle-click'' that folder with the mouse scroll wheel, Firefox will open all of its pages in separate tabs in the same window. Does that still count as 1 step?
    (To create it, open a new window with your four tabs. Right-click any of the tabs and choose Bookmark All Tabs. This will create the new folder. Assuming it tests out, you can then change your Firefox home page to about:blank to display a blank page.)
    Are we getting closer?

  • Trouble closing Firefox, not having the problem with my 2 other browsers

    ''Duplicate post, continue here - [/questions/767760]''
    For some time, I have trouble closing Firefox. When I try to close it a message appears: "Firefox is already running, but is not responding. To open a new window, you must first close the existing Firefox process, or restart your system." It used to be that opening one of my other browsers, Internet Expl. or Netscape Navigator, would do the trick but not anymore. Now, when this message appears it seems that the only way I can get Firefox to close is by stop and restart my computer. I have called my ISP but they believe the problem is with Firefox since none of my other browsers have this problem. I have also performed system restore and deleted and reloaded Firefox several times but each time, the problem reappears. Thank you for any advice you can give me.

    The [[Firefox hangs]] article should help with this, in particular the section "Hang at exit".
    Not related top your question, but you should reset your user agent string (identifies the version of Firefox). You appear to be using Firefox 3.6.12 but it is identifying itself as Firefox 2.0.0.20. For details of how to do this see [[Websites or add-ons incorrectly report incompatible browser]].

  • Why does firefox not open the address in the browser window via dvd@ccess?

    I am building a dvd with dvd studio 4 latest version on a brand new MB Pro / Snow Leapard. dvd@ccess is enabled in dvd studio pro 4 as well as on my computer. The function opens a browser window, but firefox does NOT automatically type in the required address. Therefore the browser does not look it up. This is not likely related to dvd studio pro, since dvd@ccess links to mailto: with no problem, and entourage correctly opens a new mail with the proper address. Please help. Fast – I am supposed to deliver a project! Thanks ;-)

    Ok, well I found it quickly without really finding the source of the problem. I created my account here in order to post this problem, and when I received the account confirmation email to activate my account, clicking the hotlink opened a browser window WITHOUT the address! So I restarted firefox and lo and behold, I could confirm my account via the hotlink and dvd@ccess now works, even in the dvd studio pro simulator. Why this bug appeared remains to be answered. Thanks and good luck.

  • Why does Firefox not scroll the page when selecting & the cursor reaches the bottom of the screen

    When selecting text on a screen page, when the cursor reached the bottom edge of the screen Firefox (9.0.1) does not scroll. Other programs (including IE) do so, so it does not appear to be a local computer problem.
    I cannot see a setting on the options page that enables/disables this so what is the solution?

    Enable the Add-ons bar (Firefox > Options or View > Toolbars; Ctrl+/) or the Find bar (Ctrl+F) to make Firefox scroll the page while selecting text.

  • Why does Firefox not support the "text-overflow: ellipsis;" style? All other major browsers support it.

    The "text-overflow: ellipsis;" style is supported by all major browsers EXCEPT Firefox. I had thought that this would have been fixed with Version 4. But it was not. Then I had hoped that it would be fixed in version 5. Yet it still is not supported.
    PLEASE, PLEASE add this support.

    MDN docs say it will be in firefox 7. See

  • JFrame.dispose not firing the windowsClosing event

    No this one is not quite like the question a few posts down, well not exactly anyway.
    I have a JFrame with a windowAdapter that handles my closing tasks, it works just fine currently as long as the close button on the frame is clicked. I had to add a check in the program that should close the window if its true.
    So I have code that checks a condition and if its true it shuts down all threads and trys to exit gracefully through the windowClosing event. As other posts have said I can use the jframe.dispose followed by System.exit and it works fine seeing that in the code thoughmakes me think its a kludge since dispose doesn't trigger the windowClosing event. I would like to somehow simulate clicking the close button on the frame when I need to exit because of an error but I'm not sure how to programatically do that.
    My current window close operation is set to DO_NOTHING_ON_CLOSE so that the windowClosing event can handle the closing, I tried setting the operation to EXIT_ON_CLOSE then disposing the frame when the error occured but that didn't trigger the windowsClosing event either.
    Any ideas?
    Thanks,
    Eudaemon.

    okay... So do something like this:
    private void init() { // or whatever...
       frame.addWindowListener(new WindowAdapter() {
          public void windowClosing(WindowEvent e) {
             quit();
       quitmenuitem.addActionListener(new ActionListener() {
          public void actionPerformed(ActionEvent.) {
             quit();
    public void quit() {
       // do whatever cleanup or checks or whatever...
       frame.dispose();
    }

    * Any new window (e.g., Ctrl+n): your home page may have been modified. You should be able to edit that in the Options dialog. [[Startup, home page and download settings]]. If your change doesn't stick between startups of Firefox, check for a user.js file which might dynamically alter your startup settings. See this article for more information: [[How to fix preferences that won't save]].
    * Startup only: some malware has been discovered to modify the target of the desktop shortcut used to start Firefox (adding a URL to open). Right-click the shortcut > Properties > Shortcut tab, check the target and make sure it is just the path to firefox.exe and doesn't have any additional parameters after that.
    * Time of day: some malware has been discovered to create a scheduled task that will launch a page in your default browser at a particular time. You can check here: Start button > Control Panel > System and Security > Administrative Tools > Task Scheduler
    * Other: you may have rogue software running continuously on your system. Please try the scanning/cleaning tools listed in this support article: [[Troubleshoot Firefox issues caused by malware]].

  • How can I send a website page by email with Firefox, not just the link?

    I am unable to SEND web pages with Firefox.
    With Internet Explorer, I simply go to FILE - Send - Page by email, (or Link by email). By sending the page, I can add some comments, remove some advertising, and/or highlight points I would like to highlight.
    The question then, is there a way to Send - Page by email in Firefox?
    If so, I will make it my default browser.
    Thank you.
