Firefox proxy settings with OD users

I need to add a proxy setting to firefox on 50 OD bound clients, firefox being the annoyance that it is doesn't pickup the sys prefs settings, anyone know how I can add the proxy setting remotely via WGM perhaps?
thanks in advance

Hi
Firefox keeps its settings in /Users/Home/Library/Application Support/Firefox/Profiles/mixofnumbersandletters.default/prefs.js. This file does not lend itself too easily for use in Workgroup Manager's Preferences Manifest.
What you could do - which is what I sometimes do - is to configure the Proxy Settings first on one client workstation. You could do this either one of two ways; keying about:config in Firefox itself or simply amending the Network Settings. This should 'write' the relevant information you want. Copy the prefs.js file to the Desktop. Quit out of Firefox and delete the User's Firefox Profile from the Application Support folder. Right click or Control Click on the Firefox application itself and select show Package Contents. Drill down through the Contents folder to the MacOS folder. Keep on going through the defaults folder. In there you should see a profile folder with an existing prefs.js. Overwrite this with the one on the Desktop. Now re-launch Firefox. Any user (local or otherwise) will receive those settings as default as they are set by the Application rather than by the User.
All you have to do now is copy the Firefox application to all of your clients. Which you could a number of ways. Copy the application to a pencil stick or CD and walk round each client in turn and copying the amended Firefox Application to the Applications folder. Or use the Copy command in ARD. Or prepare the client workstation you did this all on as a NetRestore Image and image the remaining workstations.

  • Update hosts file and Change proxy settings for all users on Mac

I am in a large environment with many Mac users. We have a Windows based proxy server that we are switching over within a few weeks. So far we are manually having to go to each Mac and change the proxy settings under the users account. This is a very long and painstaking process as users are on vacation etc. and our cutoff date is fast approaching for the old proxy.
we also are having to log into each workstation as administrator go into the terminal and so sudo passwd root then change the password then do sudo vi /etc/hosts to edit the hosts file.
Is there a way to change the proxy server setting for safari and firefox globally without having to log in as each user on the Mac ?
Or is there an automated way through a script that the users can run ?
These macs authenticate to active directory. They do not have a mac server but I was told to post this question here versus the desktop area.

Most browsers include an [automatic proxy configuration (PAC) mechanism|http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Proxy_auto-config] and the transparent configuration of proxies, and Safari and Firefox are no different here.
The usual approach here is to have folks visit a site and select the PAC file, or to push the file out. Here is a comfiguration example from [UConn|http://helpdesk.uconn.edu/trouble/proxy/autoprox.html], and another from [Rice|http://proxy.rice.edu/setup.php], and there are others around and visible via Google.
The [pactester|http://code.google.com/p/pactester> tool might be useful, too.
If y'all get some DNS entries set up (various web browsers have [Web Proxy Auto Discovery (WPAD)|http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/WebProxy_AutodiscoveryProtocol], when last I checked [Safari needed a little help|http://www.macosxhints.com/article.php?story=20090711031033128]) and have your firewall raise an appropriate diagnostic page, you won't have to go through this again, either.
None of this stuff is particularly specific to Mac OS X or to Safari; the PAC stuff is fairly generic, and WPAD is used with various boxes. (Try Safari with WPAD, but you might still need to reference that PAC file. And if you do, using WPAD-compliant naming would probably be a reasonable approach.)
The hosts files? You're really still using those? Any chance you can get real DNS working? That's a whole lot less work, and now is the time to deploy that; if you're going to mess with everything, then you can use that effort and that requirement to (also) move forward in your networking capabilities.

  • Firefox 4 Deployment with customized user settings?

    Hi folks,
I want to deploy FF 4.0 with customized user settings, but where is the "localized" folder for my prefs.js file? In FF 3.6.x we've extracted the setup.exe file and with sources we deployed our customized firefox. Now in FF 4.0 there are some folder missing in the new sources. Are there any documents which explain the deployment of FF 4.0? thanks a lot

  • Proxy settings with user and password

How can I configure the proxy settings if our proxy requests user and password.

We have a proxy configuration that requieres the input of an user and a password. If we try to update the Creator, we get the error 'Unable to connect to the Update Center Server. Check proxy settings ...'.
If I remember well, the first time I tried the update feature, I think I got a pop up window to input the user and the password for the proxy. But now I get always the error message. If we shut down the proxy it works fine.
Today I tried the 'GoogleSearch' demo application and the same problen occures.

  • Sense proxy settings for guest users

    Hello,
I've got a client that wants guest users to be able to 'Plug and play' on the wireless network.
That is, when a user connects, he get's assigned an IP address and does not need to change his proxy settings or IP settings.
I know this is a feature in Nomadix, is this possible in the Cisco Controller ?
I've been unable to find it.

  • Proxy settings moved from User to Machine not removing user settings.

    Hi All,
I have recently moved our company's proxy settings from User based to Machine based as we were having issues after moving from an internal proxy to a hosted external proxy.  What we found was after turning off the internal some users were no longer
    getting external internet.
After some investigation we found they were still getting old proxy settings on login and after a GPupdate.exe or normal gpupdate from the server the correct settings would apply. (happened to users logging on for the 1st time) To prevent this from happening
I moved the proxy settings to the Computer GPO and it all appeared to work in the test GPO and in live.  But a few days later we got some calls logged to our help desk stating they don't get external internet.  After some more
investigation we found that they are still getting the user policy applied to them even though it has all been removed from the User GPO.
I found if I remove the proxy settings it doesn't always apply to users but if I add info in it always updates to the user.  What can be causing this?  Some of these users have local admin rights and I thought at first it might be something they
did but now we are getting non admin users with these issues.
We are using IE 10 and have set the original Proxy settings using the GUI internet control panel and are now applying the proxy settings via Registry updates in the Computer GPO and enabled "Make Proxy settings per-machine" object.  Our SOE
is Win 7 ent x64 with IE 10 (1500 units) and Win 8.1 ent x64 IE11 (100 units) And some XP SP3 that are in the process of migrating to Win7.
Any help on this would be much appreciated.
    Cheers,
    Nat

    Hi Nat,
you wrote: I found if I remove the proxy settings it doesn't always apply to users but if I add info in it always updates to the user.
Does that also happen für new users now after you changed your settings to the computer settings?
I guess you used group policy preferences; that worked as "one time settings", so as long as the policy exists it will be merged with the Settings on the users computer. Please find a detailed description on
    http://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/library/dn581922.aspx
So you now have 2 configuration items: your policy as well as the users registry. So to remove that you already moved the Settings from the user configuration to your Computers configuration (that worked as you described) while the Settings
in their HKCU are still there - you Need to either implement another  policy to remove that, or you can set it empty.
Don't set it to "not configured" as that will keep your old setting deployed before.
Sometimes I found in more easy to implement another user preference that removed the Registry key with the Registry keys to remove a Setting instead of Publishing a "remove Setting" configuration.

  • VPN Proxy Settings With Third Party Software

Im just wondering if this is possible. When I go to university I've setup a VPN connection and inside of that I've put proxy settings for the available protocols. HTTP, socks, etc.
Well all software built into os x (itunes, safari) use these proxy settings automatically when connected to the VPN. So when I go to uni I click one button to connect and that's it.
What Im wondering: Is it possible for third party software (Firefox, IRC clients) to grab these proxy settings from the VPN? At the moment I'm having to manually add the proxies to these apps every time I go to uni, then disable them when I go home.

Many users have found Authoxy to be the solution for most proxy issues.

  • Removing firefox proxy settings does not work until a restart?

When I transfer from my work network (with a proxy server) to my home network (no server), I have to restart the browser before it realizes that there is no proxy server that it has to authenticate with. Until I do this, (re)loading pages gives me an error.
However, when going the other way, it smoothly recognises that there is a server, and no restart is required to continue browsing
I have automatic proxy settings enabled. I have tried selecting 'no proxy server', but I still need to restart firefox for this to work.

  • HTTP to ABAP Proxy - Problem with "Current User" parameter

    Hi experts,
We have a HTTP to ABAP proxy sceario, where I used an HTTP Destination to connect to the proxy.
We're trying to use the option "Current User" in that destination in order to login to ECC with the same user that in PI adapter plain.
The user exists i both systems, PI and ECC, with the same password.
Checking that parameter we get the following error:
    <SAP:Error><SAP:Category>XIServer</SAP:Category><SAP:Code>INTERNAL.UNAUTHORIZED</SAP:Code><SAP:P1>401 </SAP:P1><SAP:P2>Unauthorized</SAP:P2><SAP:P3>(See attachment HTMLError for details)</SAP:P3></SAP:Error>
We think that PI is not getting the password.
Does aybody know how to do this?
    Thanks and regards,
    LUIS B.

    Hi Chirumamilla,
If we put user and password in SM59 (unchecking "Current User") the commuication works without problems.
We don't want to leave a user set there, beacuse we are looking to access to PI with different users and login to ECC with the same user.
    Thanks,

  • Proxy settings with HttpURLConnection

    My program starts 2 threads.
Thread A sets 2 system properties - https.proxyHost, https.proxyPort and makes a https request (needs to go through proxy) to WebApp1 using HttpURLConnection.

  • Can I share color profiles and distiller settings with all user accounts on my imac?

Everyone in our studio is on OSX 10.8.3 with adobe cs6 (not creativecliud version).
I have installed color settings and distiller settings on to the macs under the employees user profile.
All the machines also have a general user profile which anyone can use (setup mainly for use by freelancers).
Is there a space on the macs where i can install the color profiles and distiller settings so that all user accounts have them set up?
At the moment i am having to go into each user account on each machine and do it manually.
Also once i have installed distiller settings in one user account I can't install them on subsequent users.
I have tried placing the files in the
    library/applicationsupport/adobe/color/
    library/applicationsupport/adobe/adobepdf/settings
    and
    user/library/applicationsupport/adobe/color/
    user/library/applicationsupport/adobe/adobepdf/settings
any help would be much appreciated.
    Thanks,Russell

In that case, assuming your wife's XP User Account can access the D: drive as well, you don't have to bother with the To share your music with other accounts on the computer section of that article. That's already taken care of.
Just log into her account and head directly to the To listen to another account's music files section and follow those instructions.
If I had to emphasize one step to keep from stuffing it up, it would be:
    4. Deselect the "Copy files to iTunes Music folder when adding to library file" option.
("Deselect" being a fancy way of saying "uncheck")

  • Forward firefox proxy settings to clients via OS X server

As title suggests we have some proxy settings to forward to clients, this was not included on the netboot image and hence need to add now, any thoughts on this?

    Hi Jamie,
You need to check your DNS settings if the server address (FQDN) redirects correctly.
Your client needs to know where to find the server by it's correct dns name otherwise profilemanagement will not function properly.
Then verify on the server itself whether you can see the server's website. That should work ok, if it doesn't start there to fix that.
Goodluck, let me know what's going on

  • How can I share the same Firefox profiles / settings among multiple users on Windows XP?

I am installing Firefox on Windows XP and have imported all settings, add-ons, etc, from a previous installation.
I did the installation under the Admin account, but I would like to have the same settings and everything else available to some of the other users on the machine (but not all). How can I do this?
    Thanks.
    -Danny.

I understand what is in and where the profiles are, but my issue is that I want Firefox to let me use the same profile whether, for example, I am logged onto the XP system as "Admin" or "User1" I do not want to share the same profile for all users of the machine, just specific users, and I do not want to have to duplicate all of the information that is in the profile in each of the specific user's Application Data settings folders under XP (C:\Documents and Settings\USER-NAME\Application Data\Mozilla\Firefox\Profiles\[profile-name]) for the user's in question.
    Am I making sense here?
    Thanks,

    Oops.
If you just need Mail settings, only copy
    ~/Library/Preferences/com.apple.mail.plist
    All the messages are in
