Firefox repeatedly opens multiple windows

Just over a week ago, I started having problems where Firefox would repeatedly open new windows as I was web surfing. Each new window is the same. They each have 3 (three) open tabs. The first tab has the url: http://search2.comcast.com/?cat=dnsr&con=ds&url=www.d.com. The second tab has the url: http://xn--xp~n ' ss14-boa27f6hze459aca6942lr1a/. And the thrid tab has the url: http://www.xn--}j--znas1698b.com:5/. The URLs for the tabs never change. In many cases, Firefox will open 5 or 6 windows all of them as described above.
I have uninstalled and reinstalled Firefox twice. I have run anti-virus/anti-spyware (Malwarebyte's Antimalware and Trend Micro 2010) with no malware found save for several cookies. I am at a loss and the problem is extremely annoying. Can someone please help me get this fixed?

Do a malware check with some malware scanning programs.<br />
You need to scan with all programs because each program detects different malware.<br />
Make sure that you update each program to get the latest version of their databases before doing a scan.<br />

    Hello Sally.
This looks like some virus or spyware. Scan your system for infection.
Or you may be having a problem with some extension or plugin that is hindering your Firefox's normal behavior. Have you tried disabling all add-ons (just to check), to see if Firefox goes back to normal?

  • Firefox keeps opening multiple windows when web link to iTunes clicked.

Running Windows 7, 64 bit. Clicked the "View in iTunes" button on this page, https://itunes.apple.com/gb/app/smartscan-express-fastest/id533516060?mt=8
Link did not open and instead Firefox kept opening another window continuously until there were dozens of windows opening one on top of the other. The only way to stop this was to Shut Down the PC. This has happened on several occasions and it's always when a link to iTunes is concerned.

Sorry, this can happen when Firefox asks how you want to open something that Firefox doesn't know how to open, but you tell Firefox to go ahead and open it. This article describes the various ways to resolve it: [[Firefox repeatedly opens empty tabs or windows after you click on a link]].

  • Firefox 4 opens multiple windows (15-25) when opening and only once in a blue moon will remember the tabs from the previous session in the first of the multiple windows.

When I open Firefox 4 from either the icon or from a link from e-mail or some other place, multiple windows open up. Usually between 15 and 25 of them. I'm running Windows 7 Ultimate on both my laptop and desktop and have the same issue with both. I tried disabling the plug-ins one by one since they were all up-to-date, to no avail. My laptop has an upgraded version of Windows while my desktop has a clean install. I tried uninstalling Firefox 4 and going back to 3 and then the same thing started happening withe v3 when it wasn't before. Only sometimes, on rare occasions, will the first window that opens have my tabs from the previous session. Most times all the windows have one blank tab. The first one I can tell 'cause it does not have the orange Firefox menu button (since I'd chosen to show the Menu Bar) while the first window shows the menu bar. The troubleshooting info is from my laptop only.

Unless the schedule it's running on is every single time I open Firefox (including closing it & reopening it right away), I don't think that's the case. Also, I don't have any of these issues on the PC I switched back to v3.6 on. That one runs smoothly whether I run Ccleaner, registry optimizers, clear the cache & history or whatever. I thought after you first gave me the answer of deleting the session files that they must've got corrupted during the upgrade, but it seems that v4 just doesn't do a good job of retaining or maintaining those files without getting them corrupt or something.
If this is not an issue with everyone & I'm having it on both my PCs, then v4 has an issue with something that I install on my PCs that, I guess, many others don't although I don't know what that could be and I use everything I install or have running. So, I'm just going back to what works without having to dismantle my config one prog at a time to try to find what v4 may be finicky about.
By the way, I did check & couldn't find any cleaners that run automatically on my PCs.

  • Firefox 4 opens multiple windows. Have tried every suggestion to fix but does not help. Does anyone know how to fix this?

I am a developer. Not sure if it was a programming thing or not but now FF 4.0.1 constantly opens up multiple windows each time I open it. Sometime around 3-4 and other times about 15 to 20 windows. I have searched your KB and Google and have tried every recommended fix but nothing helps. I am not infected, no malware and everything else is fine. I will provide remote access to my system via TeamViewer (or your option) if someone can please identify the problem or provide new details on how to troubleshoot this. I will have to find a new browser soon if this is not resolved. Many folks are suffering due to this...not just me.

This shit remains in Firefox 5. Nothing's changed.
Mozilla began to venture releasing a defective commodity.

  • WHY does Firefox repeatedly open multiple copies of tabs that are already open??? Yesterday I cleared the history, removed the program & reinstalled. Didn't help. Some tabs are ones I had months ago but don't need now. They keep appearing. HELP, please!

The problem started several months ago, after I downloaded a new version of the program. Two updates ago, I think. The repeat tabs open multiple times during the day. Sometimes they appear hours after I've closed them--sometimes just minutes later.

It is possible that there is a problem with the files sessionstore.js and sessionstore.bak in the Firefox Profile Folder.
Delete the files sessionstore.js [2] and sessionstore.bak in the Firefox Profile Folder.
    * Help > Troubleshooting Information > Profile Directory: Open Containing Folder
    * http://kb.mozillazine.org/Profile_folder_-_Firefox
If you see files sessionstore-##.js with a number in the left part of the name like sessionstore-1.js then delete those as well.<br />
Deleting sessionstore.js will cause App Tabs and Tab Groups and open and closed (undo) tabs to get lost, so you will have to create them again (make a note or bookmark them).

  • Is there a way to open multiple windows in firefox 5.0? I can't do it from windows quicklaunch and the right click"open in new window" does nothing.

Yeah, not much more to say. Since I upgraded to firefox 5.0, I can no longer open multiple windows. Multiple tabs work, but I don't like tabs. Please help.

Start Firefox in <u>[[Safe Mode]]</u> to check if one of the extensions is causing the problem (switch to the DEFAULT theme: Firefox (Tools) > Add-ons > Appearance/Themes).

  • When a click a button multiple times it opens multiple windows instead of only one. Is this a bug in Firefox?

If i click a link multiple times, it should open only a window(login popup window), but it opens multiple windows.
This does not happened on any other browser(IE, Chrome, Safari, Opera).<br />
If this helps i'm using a jquery plugin popupwindow( http://rip747.github.com/popupwindow/ ).

  • Want to open multiple windows not tabs; won't let me.

I have Windows XP. Since I upgraded to 7.0.1 (and today 8.0) I have not been able to open multiple windows of Firefox. I have not ticked OPEN TABS INSTEAD OF WINDOWS, but Firefox either opens nothing at all, when I try to start a 2nd window of it, or it opens a tab. Please fix this.

Does it still happen ifyou start Firefox in Save mode?
*Help > Restart with Add-ons Disabled
If it does work properly in Safe-mode then disable all extensions and then try to find which is causing it by enabling one at a time until the problem reappears.
*Use "Disable all add-ons" on the [[Safe mode]] start window to disable all extensions.
    * Close and restart Firefox after each change via "File > Exit" (Mac: "Firefox > Quit"; Linux: "File > Quit")

  • Why does Firefox repeatedly open new tabs when I open a .php file?

    Hey guys!
I do web development and design. I've just set up my PC (Ubuntu 14.04 LTS) and installed my choice of software.
On the .php files I set Firefox as the default software to open with but now it opens about 50 odd tabs in the space of 3 seconds. How do I fix this?
    Kind regards,
    -Trey

You've hit a bug that happens when you set Firefox as the external "helper" application used to open a type of file (the "Warning!" paragraph [http://kb.mozillazine.org/File_types_and_download_actions#Setting_an_automatic_action here] links to the related bug reports, if you're interested).
See [[Firefox repeatedly opens empty tabs or windows after you click on a link]] for how to fix this.

  • How do I open multiple 'windows' in Entourage?

I am using MS Entourage and would like to be able to open multiple windows within that program. For example, I would like to have both my calendar and address book opened at the same time in different windows. I have looked all over for a way to do this, but I have not had any luck. Any ideas? Please forgive me if this is an easy answer. I am still new to the Mac world, but love it so far. Thank you.

At the Entourage menu bar, go to File > New and select Open New Main Window. You can open an additional two main windows and select the Address Book for one and the Calendar for the other.
To navigate to a different window, at the menu bar go to Window and select Mail, Address Book or Calendar.
The Mail.app does not incorporate all 3 applications. You can have the Mail.app, Address Book and iCal launched and running and select between each from the Dock along with other ways to do so. The Mail.app also includes an Address Book panel to view all Address Book contacts or to select from when addressing a message. You can't add to, delete or edit contacts from the Mail.app Address Book panel.

    Hi Nahas,
    Thank you for your update.
Based on the current situation, you may remove any Google domains in your trusted sites for a test.
Tools>Internet Options>Security tab, click "Reset all zones to default"
Trusted sites icon, 'Sites' button. Remove any Google domains in your trusted sites list.
