Firefox Sometimes Does Not Recognize Character Set

Firefox cannot decode some characters of english text or symbols and instead of characters appear some kind of codes. Just like you would surf to chinese website without chinese character set.
[http://img15.imageshack.us/img15/1638/characterseterror.jpg Such as this here]
Why is it so in Firefox? I never saw this happening in Internet Explorer.

Pages that use Unicode (UTF-8) display a little box with the hex code if the character can't be displayed.
That allows you to look up the character in a table.
If you see such a box with hex code in it then that means that Firefox can't map a character to a specific font and you have to install a font that covers the affected characters.<br />
In your case you are lacking font support and fonts if it happens on sites that use CJK.<br />
You will see something similar on Windows XP if you visit pages that use complex scripts (e.g. Indic and Arabic).<br />
Windows XP only has very basic language support installed by default.<br />
There are a lot of languages on the world and there are always languages that may need special fonts.<br />
You most likely can't read them, so it is your choice if you want to install a font for such pages or just accept the little squares with the hex code.

  • Firefox sometimes does not display my tabs along the menu bar when two or less are open - is this a bug?

When I have less than three tabs open after having more open, Firefox does not display the tabs along the menu bar. This means I can't see tabs when I have two open. Is this a glitch?
Note: I am aware that I can set Firefox to always show the tabs, but I do not like this setting for when I only have one tab opened.

  • Yoga 2 Pro sometimes does not recognize the touchpad

My Yoga 2 Pro (running WIndows 8.1) occasionally stops recognizing the trackpad. I have NOT disabled it with the F6 key. It usually comes back if I put it to sleep and wake it up or restart it, but sometimes I have to do this several times. The touchscreen and keyboard are unaffected. Changing it from laptop to tent to tablet mode and back do not have an effect. I can plug in a USB mouse and it works, but it does not bring back trackpad functionality. I've tried re-installing the driver, but that doesn't have any effect either. I have no idea why this keeps happening.

Try installing the generic driver. Look at my sig for a link called yoga patch details. It explains how to install the generic driver.

  • Firefox browser does not recognize Java plugin in 64 bit Linux

I am running Firefox12 on RHEL5 with Java6u31 installed. Unfortunately firefox will not recognize the java plugin. I have tried linking it in the appropriate directory (https://support.mozilla.org/en-US/questions/760718?e=es&as=aaq) and I get nothing. The only feedback I seem to get is that when I go to this website: http://www.mozilla.org/en-US/plugincheck/ it tells me that Firefox has "disabled my version of Java because it is outdated" which is total BS because I have the latest version! Typing in "about:plugins" only shows the flash plugin (which is in the same directory !!!!)
Java used to work in my browser and flash works fine and I've been trying for ages to get it to work again and I'm at a loss.
Doesn't anyone else have this problem ??????????

6.32 is the latest, check it in : [http://www.java.com/en/download/installed.jsp Verify Java Version]
if update to 6.32 probably you have no problem.
    thank you

  • Firefox request does not recognize a cookie that is present

Our application has been working for several years, but recently we got a lot of complaints from users that can no longer log in. Our app is set up to link a user to a workstation using a cookie (s)he receives on the first connection. Apparently, this cookie is nicely transferred to the workstation, and the user is requested to login again. At that point the request does not contain the cookie and the login is refused. Yet when looking in the cookie info, the cookie is present on the workstation.
Has anyone any suggestions as to why this goes wrong?

  • Firefox sometimes does not allow me to complete an online purchase. I thought it was a website issue, but now wonder if relates to Firefox or Add-ons.

Yesterday I tried ordering from walmart.com and selected and edited my order with ease. When I clicked on "Check out now and Place Order" I was re=cycled back to the same order page and could not finish my order. I then tried with Safari and completed my order with no problems. This has happened on other websites occasionally, and I need to know if it is something in Firefox or my Add-ons that I need to adjust to keep this from happening. Thank you for any assistance, I am an old grandpa with much appreciation for, but with little savvy of, the computer world.

  • EBay does not recognize new security feature requiring security number in Firefox but works with IE

eBay has a new security feature when attempting to e-mail a seller; it requires that you enter a numerical code in a box. When on Firefox eBay does not recognize that I've entered the number and keeps telling me to enter the number but when on IE it recognizes the number. What add-on, etc do I need to make Firefox compatible with eBay? Thanks

The problem seems to be caused by the Java Console add-ons. Disabling mine (6.0.20 and 6.0.21) fixed the problem.

  • I bought an apple iPod 5th generation the other day and I cannot remember the unlock passcode. I have done the restore thing, but because I never set it up or synced it with iTunes, it does not recognize my device. It is disabled for one hour. Please help

I bought an apple iPod 5th generation the other day and I cannot remember the unlock passcode. I have done the restore thing, but because I never set it up or synced it with iTunes, it does not recognize my device. It is disabled for one hour. There's only a few things that could be my passcode, but because it disables for an hour, it is time consuming trying to figure it out. What do I do? I do not care about having to erase everything since it's new and there's nothing on it, but it was never synced with iTunes.

    Disabled
Place the iOS device in Recovery Mode and then connect to your computer and restore via iTunes. The iPod will be erased.

    For how to restore:
    iTunes: Restoring iOS software
    To restore from backup see:
iOS: Back up and restore your iOS device with iCloud or iTunes
If you restore from iCloud backup the apps will be automatically downloaded. If you restore from iTunes backup the apps and music have to be in the iTunes library since synced media like apps and music are not included in the backup of the iOS device that iTunes makes.
You can redownload most iTunes purchases by:
Downloading past purchases from the App Store, iBookstore, and iTunes Store
If problem what happens or does not happen and when in the instructions? When you successfully get the iPod in recovery mode and connect to computer iTunes should say it found an iPod in recovery mode.

  • Firefox 3.6.8 does not recognize subsequent mouseclicks - window loses focus

After updating to firefox 3.6.8 on my macbook pro (OS X 10.4.11) Firefox fails to recognize subsequent mouse clicks. You can access the page initially, but then it seems to lose focus and become unresponsive to mouse clicks until you do something to break the cycle (clicking on desktop, minimizing and resizing window, etc). I reinstalled Adobe Flash update using full installer, since others have suggested that as a possible cause, but no joy. The browser window still does not recognize mouseclicks after an initially successful page load. You can tab to the next window (for example, if you want to enter something in search) but you cannot CLICK to enter the search window, nor can you click on links on the page, etc. It is totally unresponsive.
    == This happened ==
    Every time Firefox opened
== I updated Firefox to the version just before 3.6.8 -- then I updated to 3.6.8 to see if that fixed it -- it's still broken

This started happening to me yesterday. All plugins are disabled, didn't help. All plugins uninstalled, didn't help. Downgraded to SP3, didn't help. I've also noticed this happen in Thunderbird, though it seems OK now.
Sadly I've had to start using IE8 :(

  • I dropped my iphone, it cracked (it alredy had some cracks in it) and the screen is black but sometimes has a background light.. When i plug it in to charge or to the computer it vibrates every 10 seconds and itunes does not recognize it. What can I do?

I dropped my iphone 4 pretty hard, it cracked (although it already had a few cracks in it) and now the screen is black but sometimes has a background light turn on and then off. Holding the home button and off button at the same time do not work. When I plug it in to charge or to the computer it vibrates every 10 seconds and itunes does not seem to recognize it. It gets really really hot when plugged in (which I don't think is normal).  icloud does not recognize it under "find my iphone" either. What could the problem be? I am wondering if dropping it dislodged something inside. if so, what did I dislodge and is it possible to fix this myself?
    Thanks

Sounds like that drop was a critical one, my friend. I would make an appointment at your nearest Apple Retail Store, because you're going to need a replacement. Also as a side note: the reason that the charger is making the phone vibrate over and over is because there is a disconnect somewhere in the charge port of the phone, causing it to plug in and out over and over.

  • When I try to click on a download link for a .pdf file Firefox does not recognize the MIME type and tries to download the file as "index.php"

When visiting a site I frequent I tried to download a linked .pdf file. Previously I've used Firefox 7.0.1 to download the link with no problem. Using Firefox 8 however I the browser does not recognize the .pdf link's mime type. Instead of recognizing the download link as a .pdf file Firefox 8 tries to download it as "index.php". Firefox 8 does this with .doc files and .txt files as well. When I downgrade to 7.0.1 again the problem disappears.

    Hi hakmacpace,
I'd try starting Firefox in [[Safe Mode]]. If you don't have the issue while all of your add-ons, extensions, and themes are disabled, you can try adding them back in one by one until you find the culprit. You should look at the [https://support.mozilla.org/en-US/kb/Troubleshooting-extensions-themes Extensions and Themes troubleshooting guide ] and the [[Troubleshooting plugins]] article as well.
You could also try [https://support.mozilla.org/en-US/kb/Managing-profiles?s=create+a+new+profile&r=2&e=es&as=s#w_creating-a-profile Creating a new profile].
    Hopefully this helps!

  • When trying to download & install Firefox 5.0.1 into a Mac, I get a message saying that Firefox cannot be installed because libnsscksi.dylib is in use. Any idea how to locate and close that file? Finder does not recognize it. Thanks!

Tried to install both Firefox 5.0 and 5.0.1, and received the same error message that a file ending in .dylib was in use. I cannot locate that file, and Finder does not recognize it.

I have a Power PC Mac with OS 10.5.8 and Firefox 3.6.28, the latest versions supported on my machine, and all of my plug-ins are the latest versions available for that browser version. I too get the warning message all the time and it is very annoying. I have never had any "security" problems, and I don't go along with this imperative to always be upgrading equipment. Don't these corporate geeks understand that we're in a global economic contraction and a lot of us are unemployed/underemployed? They want us to be good consumers and "switch to a newer computer" but I can't afford that. Like, if I can't fix my old car, I won't be able to drive. What I want to know is: '''how to disable the warning message?''' Thank you in advance.

If the device is not recognized while in Recovery Mode
Note: If your device is working on its own and is not in recovery mode, this set of steps is not for you; do not manually place the device into recovery mode.
Your device may not be recognized while in recovery mode. This can happen during an update or restore of your device. Typically when your device is in recovery mode, it will show the "Connect to iTunes" logo on its display. If iTunes does not recognize the device when in this state, try the following:
    Open the Device Manager:
Windows XP: Click Start > Run. In the resulting dialog, type devmgmt.msc and press Return.
Windows Vista or Windows 7: Click Start. In the dialog, type devmgmt.msc and press Return on the keyboard. If Windows needs your permission to continue, click "Continue".
Windows 8: Move the cursor to the upper right corner, click the magnifying glass, type devmgmt.msc, and press Return.
Click the plus icon (Windows XP and Vista) or the disclosure triangle () (for Windows 7 and 8) next to Imaging Devices, Other Devices, Portable Devices, and Universal Serial Bus Controllers to expand these sections.
Check these sections for one or more entries called Apple Mobile Device (Recovery Mode). These entries may or may not have exclamation marks on them similar to the following:
If you see only one "Apple Mobile Device USB Driver" entry that has no errors on it:
If you see two "Apple Mobile Device (Recovery Mode)" entries with exclamation marks on them:
