Firefox stalls loading Google search promoted items

Using Firefox 24.0 in Windows 8 Pro 64.
If I click on a promoted item (yellow background) in Google search results, both left click or rightclick/ new tab, the item deepends and does not load (blank tab and a URL related to Google).
Other items in the results page load correctly.
Checking with IE10, the promoted items load correctly.
I have tried clearing the cache and cookies with no effect.
Can anyone suggest a setting that I have incorrect?
Thanks

Hello,
Try Firefox Safe Mode to see if the problem goes away. Safe Mode is a troubleshooting mode, which disables most add-ons.
(If you're not using it, switch to the Default theme.)
* On Windows you can open Firefox 4.0+ in Safe Mode by holding the Shift key when you open the Firefox desktop or Start menu shortcut.
* On Mac you can open Firefox 4.0+ in Safe Mode by holding the option key while starting Firefox.
* On Linux you can open Firefox 4.0+ in Safe Mode by quitting Firefox and then going to your Terminal and running: firefox -safe-mode (you may need to specify the Firefox installation path e.g. /usr/lib/firefox)
* Or open the Help menu and click on the Restart with Add-ons Disabled... menu item while Firefox is running.

Once you get the pop-up, just select "'Start in Safe Mode"

If the issue is not present in Firefox Safe Mode, your problem is probably caused by an extension, and you need to figure out which one. Please follow the Troubleshooting extensions and themes article for that.
To exit the Firefox Safe Mode, just close Firefox and wait a few seconds before opening Firefox for normal use again.
When you figure out what's causing your issues, please let us know. It might help other users who have the same problem.
Thank you.

• Why does Firefox beta4 keep google searching and freeze?

• Just downloaded Firefox 4.0; Google search box is failing to complete searches and then to take me to websites suggested. HUGELY FRUSTRATING!!! Want to go back to version 3.6.16 but am unable

Google toolbar white search box (top left of screen) will offer suggestions to complete searches (as it used to do): for example type 'l' and 'lloyds tsb' will come up. When I click on the offered 'lloyds tsb' nothing happens; on version 3.6.13 and previous versions I would be taken direct to website selected on click. Now I have to type in whole of desired website: not just 'l' but all of 'lloyds tsb', for example, before being redirected to where I want to go.
Have used Firefox for ages; so frustrated that I'm contemplating returning to Internet Explorer or trying Google Chrome.
I've tried reinstalling 4.0 three time and no joy.
Help me or lose me!

Cheers - other 3.6.13 downloads I've tried all come up as 'file corrupted'.

• Firefox 4 and Google search

When i upgraded to FF4, the first thing i noticed was the new look to my home page. then i did a search. that's when i discovered that by upgrading, FF changed some of my default settings. the default search engine is now yahoo! Geez! if i had to reset my default settings just to update/upgrade for all the software that i have on my computer, i would... after reading some other's thoughts, i'd have to say that mozilla firefox released version 4 just a little too soon.

Cheers - other 3.6.13 downloads I've tried all come up as 'file corrupted'.

my problem is that I cannot load google.com or gmail. Every other website loads in mozilla like hotmail and other dutch websites I use frequently. I used google many years but now all of a sudden it will not load and I get an error message and cannot find the answer to solve this problem. Can anyone help me please? I already scanned my computer totally, no viruses or spyware or what it is called.

• Web Page hangs in Firefox when loading Google Analytics

About 1 month ago I noticed that Firefox hangs when loading websites while loading analytics. I know this because it shows analytics loading on the lower left side of the screen. I've read many posts around the net and I don't have a solution yet. Of course, if I hit refresh, the page reloads fine. I'm a developer and I'm noticing this issue with one of my sites. The site is super clean and I've double checked the code and everything looks ok. I'm trying to narrow down whether or not it's specific to Firefox or not. I'm not really noticing this issue in Chrome or IE. It wouldn't be a big deal, but my concern is that there may be visitors to the site that experience this and possibly leave. Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.
Also, because I'm developing I'm constantly clearing my cache and temp files, etc. I'm noticing this hang issue at least 1 time daily. I've posted this issue on the google forums, but they are utterly useless. I'm pretty sure that google is run by a super computer with no actual humans on staff because I've yet to get anything but retarded responses from google groupies/moderators and no one else that has any sort of beneficial input. My bad if you're a google groupie... no offense.

• Firefox suddenly loads Google Maps as mobile page

I have been using Google Maps in FF in Ubuntu on my desktop PC for many years.
The bookmark is stored as http://maps.google.co.uk/maps & shared with Chromium via Xmarks.
In the last few days, whenever I use this bookmark in FF, the address bar switches to http://maps.google.co.uk/m/places?oi=nojs#ipd:mode=home and the site is a mess.
This post describes the same thing exactly & tells me FF must be loading the mobile page:
http://www.techsupportforum.com/forums/f131/google-maps-loads-the-mobile-page-623890.html
If I enter the address manually, I get the same result.
Chromium continues to work as normal.
I did recently add NoScript to FF but have tried "allowing all this page" with no effect.

It is possible that the server gets confused by the Ubuntu in the user agent.
*Mozilla/5.0 (X11; Ubuntu; Linux i686; rv:11.0) Gecko/20100101 Firefox/11.0
You can try to modify the user agent and remove that part.
*Mozilla/5.0 (X11; Linux i686; rv:11.0) Gecko/20100101 Firefox/11.0
You can do that by setting the general.useragent.override pref on the about:config page or use this extension:
*User Agent Switcher: https://addons.mozilla.org/firefox/addon/user-agent-switcher/
*https://support.mozilla.org/kb/websites-incorrectly-report-firefox-outdated-or-in
Note that you will have to update the user agent if you update Firefox (Firefox 12has been released)

• Why does Firefox redirect my Google search bar queries to the Google homepage?

Whenever I type a query on the search bar (set to Google), the browser would load the results - then a second later, it redirects the results page to the Google homepage.
How can I prevent this from happening? I would like the results page to stay, as per normal :(

OK, it's the OptimizeGoogle extension. Disabled, and it subsides.
But I never had this problem as recently as last week, even with that extension enabled.

• Firefox won't load google image search results

Firefox won't load google search results. It will load the page of results with the thumbnails etc. but if you click any of them, just a loading spinning icon appears on the tab and it never loads.
I have tried:
Both logged in and out of google account,
All other areas of google work with no problems (news, shopping etc.),
Site working perfectly in Internet Explorer,
Running firefox in safemode,
Manually disabling all plugins and addons,
Clearing the cache and cookies,
Opening results in new tab just results in white page with web address but it never loads,
Restarting both my PC and router.
It's not been working for at least the past 6 hours. Last time I used it was about a week ago and it was working fine then. I've not noticed any problems on any other sites this week that I can recall.

Updating firefox to version 17.0 appears to have solved this.

• Since Firefox v34, after zooming text on a page Google Search took me to, the Google search page is blank after clicking 'Back' to it. Is this a v34 glitch?

Since Firefox v34, the Google Search results page is blank after, 1) Clicking on a link in a Google Search results page and loading the linked page, 2) Zooming in on the text on the page Google took me to, and then without resetting text zoom, 3) Clicking the Firefox 'Back' arrow to return to the Google search results. If at that point I either reload the Google results page, or click back a page and then forward again, the full search results are then displayed again.
This happens on my Windows 7 PC as well as my Vista Notebook. Is this a glitch with text zooming and Google in Firefox version 34?

>>Type about:preferences#advanced<Enter> in the address bar.<
Setting that made no difference. I ran 30-40 test searches on Google with that set and Firefox restarted in Safe Mode with all add-ons disabled. The problem persists on the vast majority of searches. However backing up to Google search results after following some links doesn't result in the problem.
For instance when I do a Google search from www.google.com (USA) on "Steve Gibson" and click the first result, which for me is his Wikipedia page: "Steve Gibson (computer programmer) - Wikipedia". If I hit CTRL/+ a couple times to zoom text after the page loads, and then click Firefox's 'Back" icon, the previous Google search result page will be empty.
However if I click on the 2nd result in Google's search results, which for me is "GRC | Steve Gibson's WebZone:", I can zoom the text several times and then click back to the Google search results and find them all displayed fine.
But I've been having this problem when backing up to Google search results probably 70-90% of the time since I updated from Firefox v33 to v34.
It's frustrating because Firefox seems to remember the text zoom level for entire domains. So if I zoom on one Wikipedia page, Firefox will display all Wikipedia pages I visit subsequently at that zoom level. I used to love this feature. But it's become a real pain now when I back up to Google.
BTW: If in the 1st example above, I first reset the text zoom level while I'm still on the Steve Gibson Wiki page, all the Google search results are displayed fine after I click Firefox's 'Back" icon. I don't have this problem in Chrome or Opera.
