Firefox stopped playing webm files while Chrome still does.

I get the message, "no video with supported format and mime type found" with some videos as well. This problem appeared for no reason one day. I've tried reinstalling firefox, using a new profile, safe mode, reinstalling flash, and changing the about:config to change media.directshow.enabled to false. This problem has been occurring for about three weeks now and I'm at a complete loss for how to fix.

"no video with supported format and mime type found" means that the HTML5 media player is used, but there is no support for any of the offered media formats.
With media.directshow.enabled and media.windows-media-foundation.enabled set to false then you disable the HTML5 media player and it is more likely to see this error message in case there is no fallback available to another (Flash based) media player.

  • Quicktime Plugin/Firefox stops playing mp3 after a few seconds

    We've run into a problem with Quicktime Player in Firefox (Win XP) only playing the first few seconds of an mp3. It doesn't happen with all mp3s, but out of the five we've tested four showed this problem... only one of the five played through to the end.
    When accessing the mp3 file, quicktime plugin loads with the big Q, takes a few seconds (i.e. seems to be downloading the full file), displays the controller, then starts playing. The progress bar moves quickly to the right and stops when it reaches the far right. For some of the mp3s it's only a second or two, for one it is about 8 seconds. The ones that only play for a second or two are regular music mp3s of about 3-5 minutes in length. The one that plays 8 seconds, is really 17 minutes, 42 seconds long.
    All of these seem to play fine with the Quicktime plugin in IE. And all the files play fine in iTunes and Quicktime as local files as well as streaming.
    The music files are mp3s generated by iTunes using the "Convert to MP3" function (original files are m4a files from the iTunes store).
    The longer file (a podcast) was generated by a third party, so I'm not sure what tools were used to generate it, however I've tested two versions generated by iTunes that also did not play past 8 seconds:
    - Original encoding with ID3 tags converted to a different version by iTunes
    - New encoding generated by iTunes using the "Convert to MP3" function
    (FWIW, renaming the files doesn't make a difference either.)
    I have confirmed that this is happening for a colleague of mine on his computer as well.
    Reloading the page/mp3 file (F5), force-reload (control-F5), disabling the cache (using Web-Developer Plugin, or Firebug), clearing the cache (through Firefox's Options->Advanced->Network->Offline Storage settings, or through "Clear Recent History") ... none of these seem to make a difference.
    However, I did notice that for the files that weren't working, using Firebug's Net panel, it looks like the plugin starts *and finishes* playing the file before the file is completely downloaded (i.e. the player stops playing and the Net panel still shows the file downloading -- usually for a few seconds more before it is completely downloaded).
    (And now the one mp3 file that was playing fine is no longer playing. It too just plays a second or two then stops...)
    This is with Firefox 3.6.3 and Quicktime Plugin 7.6.6 on Windows XP Pro.

    (Oh, and ignore my comment earlier that this mp3 stopped working. I got confused back there with all the various tests... This file does play fully. The player also waits until the file is fully downloaded before starting to play... As opposed to the others where the player starts and ends playing before they are downloaded completely.)

  • Playing audio file while Downloading

    Hello all,
    Can anyone give me an idea on how can I play audio file while downloading.
    Thanks

    Connect the external drive and then launch Disk Utility found in Applications/Utilities. Your external drive while show up in Disk Utility's side bar. It should be Mac OS Extended or OS Extended (Journaled).
    If it isn't:
    Then select it and click the 'Erase tab' at the top.
    Select Mac OS Extended-Journaled formatting from the Volume Format menu.
    Then click the oval Erase button at the lower right. Just remember-this will erase the drive!

    Hi David,
    Thank you for your detailed question. It sounds like the real issue is pdf files. Are there any antivirus/firewalls that might be blocking this specific file type? or are there any preferences in your control panel that might be blocking this?
    Do you have any stored preferences for PDF files in Firefox?

  • Firefox stops responding after file download

    After I download a file, Firefox stops responding and I have to wait for around 10 seconds before I can use it again.
    This also happens when I'm using "Download them all"

    That can be a problem with your AV software. Firefox let your default anti-virus program scan the file after the download has finished.

  • How can I force Firefox to open webm files in a external application like mplayer?

    I want to open webm files from browsing sites (for example tagesschau.de) in mplayer through 'xterm -e' where I set a specific placement of the window and other parameters. Setting media.webm.enabled to false only disabled internal player, but does not open any option under Preferences -> File Types. Playing with advanced configuration I tried creating media.webm.handler{,default,application} according to other file type that are set to external applications. No luck. I have set mp4 files to use the same script (with execution permission) and it works exactly as I want.
    Script:
    <pre><nowiki>#!/bin/bash
    FILENAME="`basename "$@"`"
    xterm -fs 24 -bg black -fg white -title "$FILENAME" -geometry 96x8 -e "echo \"$FILENAME\"'\\nfrom\\n'\"$@\" && \
    mplayer -geometry 100%:100% -vf dsize=400:-3 -volume 80 \"$@\" "</nowiki></pre>
    The script itself works when I feed it a webm url (or any other media for that fact).
    Linux 3.9.9-1-ARCH x86_64 GNU/Linux

    I don't know about linux cos i'm win user. But you may start with disabling internal webm support. about:config -> media.webm and then I think you should install greasemonkey addon and custom script for playing content in 3rd partys players. (At least that is my configuration. I'm using VLC for youtube)

  • Flash player will stop playing after a while, when viewing certain streams in fullscreen mode.

    Hey, can you help me with this problem?
    When I start vieweing certain video streams, such as this one http://www.animefreak.tv/watch/hentai-ouji-warawanai-neko-episode-1-online the player would play for a while, then suddenly lose sound, and after 5 seconds or so, it will stop playing.
    If I click for pause, then play again it will work for a while, but it's very annoying and there's not much I can do about it.
    I have the same problem on 2 computers, with 2 different OS's (windows 7 & 8).

    I suspect you are running into the bug that is described here:

  • How to return Firefox to playing .wav files without the vlc plug-in?

    Win XP, Firefox 33.11. In an html document are links to PCM, 16 bit .wav files and
    other links to .mp3 files. Opening the document with Firefox and clicking on an .mp3 link
    plays in the `native' Firefox player OK. However clicking on a .wav link seemed to fail to
    play. Using Tool/Options/Applications, wav files were associated with VLC. Now clicking
    on a .wav link plays OK in a Firefox screen displaying the vlc logo.
    However, later the following was found this under the Firefox help information
    "Firefox can play the WAV container format (.wav, .wave file types) containing uncompressed
    audio in PCM at 8 or 16 bits per sample".
    It seems the .wav files should play with the `native' Firefox player.
    How can the link to vlc be removed. Removing the plug-in is not a solution as it is used
    for many other file types.

    Firefox will only use the HTML5 media player when the AUDIO tag is used.
    If EMBED or OBJECT is used then Firefox will always use a plugin.

  • Firefox stops for few seconds while opening a page

  • Why do some songs and videos stop playing or freeze while playing?

    I have an 80 gig iPod classic that I never had problems with until now. I started noticing songs and videos I bought from iTunes aren't working. They will play for 30 seconds, stop, and go to the next song. I called iTunes, and they told me to use the online support but it hasn't helped me. Every time I go on there, it just tells me to call again. I've also tried to restore my iPod and it didn't work, so I'm wondering if anyone else has found and alternate way to fix it.

    I have a similar problem.  My IPod 5 and 3Gen will stop playing songs about halfway through. The timer indicates its playing but no music.  When I've checked these songs on in ITunes they pay fine and completely.  I've tried removing them from ITunes and downloading again but with no success.  This seems to be random and as I have over 2K worth of songs its difficult for me to determin where the problem is.  One of the reasons I purchased the IPod 5 was hopes to eliminate this problem.  Any ideas on what other things I can do to solve this problem?

  • Some videos stop playing for a while, Ipod 60 GB

    Hi,
    My problem is that I loaded into my iPod a lot of videos, and they in iTunes work fine, but, in my iPod, some of them, after a few seconds, stop playing, then continue, but without sound, if I go back or forward, the sound appear again, but then after a few seconds, happen again...
    Regards,
    Kike

    Workaround
    I think i found a workaround for the freezing problem, without downgrading the firmware.
    Before the video freezes, pause the video in the Ipod, slide the hold button to hold, wait some seconds , slide it back again. Start the video again, and slide the button over to hold again. Now the video wont freeze
    works everytime for me ..

  • Firefox stops playing sound, closing Firefox leaves straggling processes running, kill those and sound returns, how to fix?

    Firefox 3.6.8 just now on Ubuntu 9.10, but happens on 8.04-10.04 Ubuntu with related older Firefox versions.
    Problem is probably related to Youtube/Flash problems, but something gets stuck in Firefox. I can close the main instance of Firefox, but looking in 'top' I can still find processes running for Firefox (sometimes if I try to restart Firefox I will get a note that Firefox is already running). If I kill those 'runaway processes' then restart Firefox I have Youtube/etc sound back.
    When this happens all programs on the computer cannot produce sound. When processes killed then sound works all around.

    I was able to fix this problem on my computer in Windows 7. Try going to start/control panel/programs and then uninstall the flash plugin -
    then start browser again go to a flash video and when prompted install plugin again.
    This worked well for me let me know how everyone else makes out.

  • FireFox v20, HTML5, webm file and my sanity!

    Hello Everyone,
    I am very new to programming and learning my way around HTML5, so please pardon my ignorance on this..but I'm going crazy on this issue.
    IIS v6<br />
    Firefox v20<br />
    HTTP load failed with status 404. Load of media resource http://staging.mysite.org/images/video1.webm failed.
    Code:
    <pre><nowiki>#vid1 {
    margin-left: 20px;
    <div id="vid1">
    <video width="170" height="96" nocontrols="" loop="" autoplay="" tabindex="0">
    <source type="video/mp4" src="../images/video1.mp4"></source>
    <source type="video/mov" src="../images/video1.mov"></source>
    <source type="video/webm" src="../images/video1.webm"></source>
    Your browser does not support the video tag.
    </video>
    </nowiki></pre>
    - I can assure you the file video1.webm is located in the folder.
    - Firefox is the only browser that will not play the video.
    - I've added .webm it IIS MIME types
    - Thinking it was the codec, I found this file: webmdshow-0.9.12.0-20101216.zip and installed it on the web server. Didn't help! If the codec is required, where do I find it (if this file isn't correct) because I cant find it anywhere).
    Thank you in advance!

    You should not need a codec on your server to serve webm video. For security reasons, you may want to remove it.
    This site doesn't do well with HTML in posts. Can you provide a link to a page that demonstrates this problem, or post the &lt;video> tag (including all nested fallback tags) on a site such as Pastebin and give that link here? Of course feel free to change the hostname in the URLs.

    Weird... this does not happen to mine..... maybe you should try reloading the firmware.... if not might be a player with your player and you should call support.
