Firewall applet

Hi, I would like to know if the firewall applet can be considered as an applet stored inside the Rom by the card's provider and that uses native methods.

Hi,
This is really an applet firewall, not a firewall applet.
Don't think about the applet firewall as an applet. It's just code inside the VM that prevent object access across applets of different packages. That's the only thing useful to know :-)
And there is no way to add rules and exceptions like iptables and others.

Sebastien

  • Firewall-config cannot change firewall zones of NetworkManager conns

    I have been playing around with firewalld and firewall-config recently to try to harden up my laptop.
    My regular user account is in group wheel, and I have polkit set up.  So, any administrative tasks prompt me for my password.  I can configure networks with NetworkManager (and even set a firewall zone from within NetworkManager).  And with a password, I can modify firewalld rules.
    However, if I attempt to change the firewall zone of a network connection (either under Options > Change Zones of Connections... or by left-clicking on firewall-applet), I get the following stackdump:
    Traceback (most recent call last):
      File "/usr/bin/firewall-config", line 1007, in change_zone_connection_editor
        editor.run()
      File "/usr/bin/firewall-config", line 5301, in run

    So, it is some permission problem.  If I run firewall-config as root and try again, everything works as intended.  So, I think this is DBUS or Polkit configuration problem.  Is there some way to determine why access is denied or what DBUS call is being attempted?  I have tried dbus-monitor and d-feet, but I still can't find the call the fails.  (I have never had to troubleshoot DBUS calls before, so I'm quite confused as is.)
    What's weird is I can change the firewall zone of the network configuration using nm-connection-editor.  So is this bug in how firewall-config and NetworkManager communicate?
    Any advice on which permissions to check would be greatly appreciated.

    Hi Kristian.
    The problem in my case was the RRAS/Gateway system was no longer available.  Unfortunately, VMM still "wanted" to connect to it to complete the removal; regardless of the dependency order.  (BTW, I was trying to remove objects in the
    correct order.)
    I expect VMM should be enhanced to allow objects, such as the ones I had, to be removed if the communication with the backing system fails.  Say, a warning/confirmation/force popup with the GUI, or something somilar for the various PowerShell cmdlets.

  • [Solved: Apache fault] Very very long shutdown

    Hello Archers.
    After completely reinstalling my laptop, I faced a problem with the shutdown process. It hangs almost 1 minute, which seems very long to me.
    Looking the output of journalctl, I noticed the problem seems to come from NetworkManager and/or dbus (see the output below, between 16:41:46 and 16:42:24).
    Here the output of "journalctl -b -1 -r", only after asking the system to shutdown:

    I gived a try to systemd 210. Indeed, the failures to unmount /home and swap disappeared, but the long shutdown remain.
    Now, the only message left in red by journalctl are dbus related:

  • Why doesn't a newly created playlist appear in the playlist section of 7.02

    I create a new playlist "File>New Playlist" and add songs from my library to it. The "Burn Disk" icon does not appear.
    In fact, the playlist itself only appears in Devices but not in the playlist section, why?

    Thanks for the idea. I checked and found that the machine serving up the database does in fact have XP SP2 installed. I disabled the firewall completely, and that solved the problem. (At first, I just unchecked the LAN connection under the Advanced Tab of the Firewall applet, but that did not do the job, I had to turn it off completely from the General Tab.)
    I also found this relevent information:

  • Bypassing proxy/firewall with Applet URLConnection?

    I am trying to download images from an image server to an Applet. Currently I am using URLConnection to connect to server and download the image to a byte array.
    The problem arises when I try to download the images through a proxy/firewall. The applet doesnt seem to connect to the server using URLConnection, however it works fine over a standard modem connection!
    Running the code as an application, instead of an applet with the following parameters to use the proxy :
    Properties systemProperties = System.getProperties();
    systemProperties.put("proxySet","true");
    systemProperties.put("proxyHost",host);
    systemProperties.put("proxyPort",proxyport);
    System.setProperties(systemProperties);
    This works perfectly, and the images are downloaded.
    The problem is that I need to run it as an applet and not as an application. I was under the impression that the browser settings for proxy and port will automatically be sent to the applet and I dont have to set it manually.
    Please let me know if anyone has any solutions. Thanking you in anticipation!

    On IE, you can to limit the addresses that will go to access the proxy server.
    On Tools Menu select the "Internet Options" Then "Connections" then "Lan Configurations" Then "Advanced" then "Exceptions" now input the addresses that dont will utilize the proxy/firewall.
    Excuse-me by my English.
    Best Regards

  • Applet with firewall example

    We ave a java applet which works very well but unfortunately does not work behind corporate firewalls. Can someone provide me examples of implementation to enable customers behind the firewall to connect to our applet. What do we need to do at our end in the applet program and/or the web server and what is required at the users end who are behind the firewall?
    Thanks

    Last time i read papers about SOAP and i know that applet behind firewall can communicate with serwer by http, other methods depends on firewall config.

  • Applet Firewall problem

    Hi,
    I have written an applet that communicates with a servlet by sending java objects back and forth. The objects are simple containers with either an sql query ( in the request to the servlet ) or the data from the query in the response.
    This is working fine, with the exception of one client who is in Australia ( we are in San Diego ). This client has an authentication based firewall set up, and it seems this is tripping up the applet. I cannot reproduce this error at all, and nobody else is having this problem.... which makes it a REAL pain to try and debug ( if indeed there is something for me to debug! ). I just have to guess at what might be wrong.
    The client reports that when he starts his browser to hit an external website ( like ours ) he has to log in. He does, successfully. But then if he goes to the page with the applet, the -applet- asks him to log in to the firewall again- unsuccessfully. The applet then just keeps repeating the request for proper authentication, and then eventually gives up with this error:
    java.net.SocketException: Network is unreachable: connect
    at java.net.PlainSocketImpl.socketConnect(Native Method)
    at java.net.PlainSocketImpl.doConnect(PlainSocketImpl.java:295)
    at java.net.PlainSocketImpl.connectToAddress(PlainSocketImpl.java:161)
    at java.net.PlainSocketImpl.connect(PlainSocketImpl.java:148)
    at java.net.Socket.connect(Socket.java:425)
    at com.sun.net.ssl.internal.ssl.SSLSocketImpl.connect(DashoA6275)
    at com.sun.net.ssl.internal.ssl.SSLSocketImpl.a(DashoA6275)
    at com.sun.net.ssl.internal.ssl.SSLSocketImpl.<init>(DashoA6275)
    at com.sun.net.ssl.internal.ssl.SSLSocketFactoryImpl.createSocket(DashoA6275)
    at sun.net.www.protocol.https.HttpsClient.doConnect(DashoA6275)
    at sun.net.www.http.HttpClient.openServer(HttpClient.java:366)
    This basically all boils down to the applet cannot find the class files and it won't work. (If anyone wants, I will post the full stacktrace ).
    Again, we have users in germany, england, france, not to mention all over the US. None are having this problem. I realize it is due to their firewall setup that they are having problems, but is there anything I can do to help out?
    Thanks!

    There are actually two router that are giving your problems. The first is located by the final backbone link from Alstr. to the U.S. The second is your friends' router. You can't do anything about the first one, it might work, and then your friend needs to stop using the firewall or re-configure it.

  • Firewall detection by applets

    Hi all,
    we have implemented a messenger using Java...now we wish to add a file transfer feature to it. We wish to make it a peer to peer transfer depending on whether the client side applet is behind a firewall or not.
    My question is: how can the client side applet detect whether it is behind a firewall or not and send relevant information to the server?
    Thankx in advance..
    AslamM

    I don't know of any API that specifically allows to do that, but one possible start would be to do the following:
    1. the client contacts the server passing it IP address and asking for an ackowledgement.
    2. the server then tries to "ping" the client using the IP that it has been provided by the client.
    3. then some kind of time-out system both on the client and the server will allow you to find-out if the connection was successful or not. If it was, then the client is probably not behind a firewall, or the port you are using is open. If not, then chances are either the client is behind a firewall, or does not have a real IP, and therefore is not contactable directly on the internet.
    As I said earlier, this is just a start and you'll probably discover more problems, but I hope this helps.

  • We use a Watchguard Firewall to Login to the Internet. It uses a Java Applet. Why isn't it loading properly after upgrading to 8.0

    This is what appears instead of the login Screen:
    <html><head><title>Watchguard Authentication Applet</title></head>
    <body BGCOLOR="#FFFFFF"><applet name="WatchGuard Authentication" code=Main width=600 height=250>
    <param name=HOST value=192.168.0.1>
    <param name=PORT value=4100>
    <param name=imagename value=logo.gif>
    </applet></body></html>

    Do you have another device to check if the router or your ipad.  It's good to check on another device if available.  If you don't go to Settings > Network > Reset all network settings.  I'm going from memory but think it's here.  This will prompt you to log in again like the first time.  Good luck.

  • Load file/applet firewall

    Help please: given the following
    all class have the same RID
    class A
    class B derived from class A
    class C derived from class A
    Is there a way to have classes A,B,C in separate load file without using the Shareable interface communications mechanism. Could we create our own SecurityDomain to allow load files to link to each other.

    From the server: make a URL pointng to the file and open a stream to it.

  • Applet Download Incomplete

    I'm having a problem with the download of a large applet (approx. 1MB) getting cut short.
    Everything appears normal. The Java Extension Installation progress window comes up. But when it tries to run the applet it gets "load: class <className> not found" where <className> is the name of the class in my CODE parameter. It appears that on occasion the download of the jar gets cut off. When I search the browser's cache, I find a jar file that has fewer bytes than it should. In order to initiate a retry, you have to delete the jar file from your browser's cache, close all your browser windows so that the Plug-in with its truncated jar file stops running, and load the HTML page again. It appears that it checks the timestamp of the jar file in your cache and the one on the server and decides that it doesn't need to download it again. But if you delete it from your cache, it forces a retry.
    I never have this problem when I open from my hard drive. I've never had the problem with a cable modem connection. I've had it once from a corporate LAN hitting an internet server (i.e., outside corporate WAN). I've had people report the problem with dial-up connections. My theory is that whatever the Plug-in is using to download the applet is more sensitive than either HTTP download or FTP.
    I realize that if I used the cache options, once a user has successfully downloaded the applet, there's no more problem. But it makes for a crummy initial user experience if they're unfortunate enough to have their download truncated. Also, given the fact that it doesn't report the download problem and instead says it can't find a class, it makes it look like I'm delivering an untested applet. Not good.
    Has anybody else experienced this problem? Is there anything you can do about it? I couldn't find a bug report on it. Is there one?

    I get a similar problem which we have diagnosed to be either a network problem (i.e congestion) or a problem with the firewall and bypass proxy settings. The firewall itself slows downloads because the firewall is funnelling connections through it causing a congested network. Our solution (intranet) is to include the correct bypass proxy settings in the browser, though this might not be a very good answer for an internet.
    I have one other thing you can make sure you are doing if you are developing your applet locally then moving it to another platform. If you ftp files (like your applet) between machines, especially across different platforms like nt and unix/linex, you might want to verify that you are using binary (and not ascii) transfer to make sure you get all your bytecode. I think if you use another method like remote copy, this is not a problem. I hope this helps.

  • Java Control Panel wont open at all and any Java Applets crash web browsers

    Hello,
    I recently installed a fresh fully updated copy of Windows 7 Home Premium 64 bit, and I have not for the life of me been able to get Java working at all. Java version is the latest JRE 6U31. I only have Internet Explorer 9 installed but I doubt it is a browser issue since I cannot even open the Java control panel. I have tried using the 32 bit version of Java, and the 64 bit. Anytime I try to open the Java control panel with either 32 bit or 64 bit, I get an error message (click link below to view error message):
    http://i65.photobucket.com/albums/h204/gobigjeff/Java%20Error/javaerror.png
    I can only bring up the Java Control Panel using the command “javaws –viewer” . Anytime I try to load a web page with a Java applet in either 64 bit or 32 bit, it freezes and crashes. I am running Internet Explorer 9 and have tried both the 32 bit and 64 bit browser versions. I saw Java’s recommendation to only use the 32 bit version so I have mainly been trying to get the 32 bit version working 1st, with no success. I have tried ALL of the following steps, and have done some exhaustive research on this problem. It seems others have had this issue as well, with no solution to be found:
    •     Uninstalled and reinstalled only Java 32 bit JRE 6u31 multiple times (Used Javara and reg cleaner to remove all old Java traces)
    •     Uninstalled and reinstalled only Java 64 bit JRE 6u31 (Used Javara and reg cleaner to remove all old Java traces)
    •     Uninstalled and reinstalled bit JRE 7 (Used Javara and reg cleaner to remove all old Java traces)
    •     Used SFC /scannow in safe mode to verify Windows files
    •     Ran spyware and virus scan with no issues detected
    •     Added all java processes to windows firewall
    I am out of solutions here. If anyone has had this problem with Java or knows what I need to do to fix the problem your advice would be greatly appreciated. I don’t think reinstalling windows is the solution because this is a fresh install.

    I figured it out. I changed the installation folder to C:/Java and it finally worked!

  • Forms Client Java Applet waiting several minutes

    Hello,
    We use Forms 10.1.2.0 and html/javascript/plsql applications.
    All forms applications are working but
    we have the problem that from time to time the client java applet must wait minutes until there is an answer from the forms-servlet (especially when there is high activity in the system).
    More than one user is working in the form with high activity - the applet sends a request
    over the network - after 4 minutes the result is shown and you can go on working
    without problems.
    So a lot of users think the application has crashed and terminate before.
    The applet shows no error messages.
    There is no sign that there is a lost connection between applet and servlet.
    It is not reproducible. That means you can work 2 hours and everything is ok
    or you work 5 minutes and you have to wait.
    network problems?
    firewall problems?
    do requests of the forms servlet to the database have minor priority on the application server
    than html/plsql requests?
    any ideas?

    when the problem occurs (user has to wait 3-4 minutes) we found in the log
    3 heartbeats from the forms client within 2 seconds ?
    after 3-4 minutes the forms client is ok (user can go on working)
    and the pings are every 2 minutes (like it is expected).
    The application.log file may contain duplicate posts requests with
    identical pragma header numbers, indicating that the client
    is resending
    requests due to network packet losses. Under normal circumstances,
    only the last Post request, terminating a Forms session,
    should contain

  • Do I need to pass a applet test with Java before the Flash player will function?

    I have downloaded the unstall and install programs for Adobe Flash Player and followed all the steps poster, "eidnolb" noted to prior poster greenie41180 on March 6th,  2010, 8:05PM.   The flash player test did not work.   I also do not see applets, when I use the latest version of Java on an applet test.    I might try reinstalling IE8, or going to IE7 and reinstalling Flash Player.  Gawd!  hours have been used, just trying to get Flash Player going so I can resume watching the tutorials at Mathtutordvd.com.
    What other troubleshooting steps can be taken?   I have tried everything eidnolb suggested in prior posts.
    Hello everyone, When I try to download the Flash player I get the error message listed above.    I turned off the firewall and virus modes on my TrendMicro protection program, when downloading the player.     I already have Java 6, update 18 in the system.   I restarted the computer.  I also adjusted the configurations for Javascript and ActiveX under the "Tools" menu for the Security and Advanced tabs of Internet options.  I have Windows XP, service pack 3, with Internet Explorer 8.
    Also, I tested the recent, most updated program, Java and I still can not see an applet.    I have spent 7 or more hours on this.  I thought initially this process was going to be straight forward.     I desperately need this Flash player so I can learn math at the streaming video site called,  Mathtutordvd.com       Oh! gosh maybe someone here can help me help myself by giving me more troubleshooting steps.  I did follow Adobe's troubleshooting steps, but I still get the same, above error box with,  MSXML2.XSL Template 3.0 (Original exception: undefined)
      I hope, eventually to watch the streaming site, once this Flash Player is loaded.   I really do not understand what is going on here.  Thanks for your help.

    Hi, May I suggest that you read your previous 3 threads that have been responded to?
    You need to stop starting threads, this is the 4th one. You need to stop copying and pasting from the first thread to the new threads that you are starting. It serves no positive purpose.
