Fireworks CS5 missing command in options
I'm trying to ceate a simple slide show in Fireworks CS5. All of the tutorials instruct to go to Commands and choose Create Slide Show. I don't have that option. Has it been moved?
Hello there fellow Adobe forum people. I solved the problem by re-reading the extensive Lightroom 2 help pdf file. It turns out that those additional options that are missing in the edit in Photoshop CS3 dialog are only available if you upgrade your Photoshop CS3 program (which is actually version 10.0) to version 10.0,1. That did the trick.
I gotta say, I learned a lot reading through many topics on these forum pages looking for the answer. So thanks a lot to all the participants here. A fine community of users.,

Why does Fireworks CS5 keep resizing images when I paste them?
I am having a problem in Fireworks CS5 where images that are copied and then pasted into a new document automatically re-size and become either very tiny or very large.
I have taken some screenshots to show this more clearly: (this website only allows me to upload images of 450 pixels across so they are not too clear)
Image 1: I have taken a large image and reduced its size to 100x100 pixels (highlighted in red).
Image 2: I have created a new document which is 100x100 pixels in size.
Image 3: I have copied the image from Image 1 (control + C) and then pasted it into Image 2 (control + V). The image was 100x100 and the new image was 100x100 yet when I paste the image it suddenly becomes 313x313 in size and is too large for the new image. Sometimes it becomes tiny when pasted and is too small for the document.
Can anyone help with this matter? Perhaps I am missing something obvious, but I have tried searching for solutions and tried a range of methods (different kinds of copy and paste etc), but nothing seems to help. Please let me know what I am missing!
Thank you for your help! As I said I am using Fireworks CS5. I am using Windows 7. If there is anything else you want to know just let me know.I don't know what could be causing the copy/paste resizing issue, but here are a couple of ideas that may help with your workflow:
You can create a new document for animation by choosing File > Open..., selecting multiple images, and clicking the "Open as Animation" option. This will place each image file into its own State.
Consider using commands from the States panel fly-out menu—e.g., Duplicate State, Copy to States, etc.—to move objects from one state to another.
Other commands to copy objects within Fireworks include Edit > Duplicate and Edit > Clone. These do not involve the clipboard and may sidestep the resizing problem.
Sometimes with bitmaps, I like to convert them to symbols, as it allows me to resize the bitmap freely without losing the original resolution. (This might introduce extra steps, but it could allow you to correct the image size after it's been pasted incorrectly.)
It's a longshot, but I wonder if it would help to empty the clipboard contents once in a while, to clear out old data. -
Can Fireworks CS5 import a Word document?
I just watched a Fireworks CS5 tutorial where the author imported a Word document into Fireworks. The import dialog showed "All readable files" and Word documents just showed up in the list view. When he chose a Word document, he got the "place" cursor and when placed, a new text object was created with text from the imported doc.
I thought that was cool so I wanted to try it myself. When I opened the Import dialog, Word documents don't display in my listview, and the "Files of type" menu doesn't contain "Word" as any of the options. If I choose to show "All files", then choose a Word doc, I get "Could not import the file. Unknown file type."
I'm wondering if I'm missing a converter? Or maybe the tutorial author was using a third-party extension?
FWIW, I'm using Fireworks CS5 and Office 2010 32-bit (although I tried some older docs authored in Word 2003 and 2007 and they don't work either).Oh, Hi Jim.

Secondly, the file is "Tour Spotlight.rtf" from Chapter 03 of Fireworks CS5 Rapid Prototyping Exercise Files. Or I should say 'was'.. I've just tried it again on my CS5 install on my other laptop and it imported just fine. I'm not sure why I had an error on the other one...

Hanging indent, Adobe Fireworks CS5
Any idear how to do a "hanging indent" in Fireworks CS5 for a multi-line custom bulleted list.
Or if there is the "indent here" option in paragraph text for Fireworks CS5?
I can't believe it doesn't have such a simple type controls like this, but it's legacy code - so maybe brute force is the only way.

A single negative indent value doesn't quite give me enough control. At least not what I'm used to compared to the other Adobe apps. Uusually you spec a first line indent value and an indent value for the remaining lines in the paragraph. (ie 8, -8 pts, respectively)
OR an Indent-here command. (I know there's no such thing in HTML, but that's not my concern in designing protypes/mockups - and CSS does handle that quite plainly these days.)
I know the FireWorks isn't ideal application for typesetting, but considering it's been rev'd up several times since the MacroMedia acquisition, you'd think someone would have solved this basic integration issue by now. I doubt it's fixed in CS5.5 either...UGH.
Brute force typesetting here I come. -
Problem with copying and pasting text blocks in Fireworks CS5
Until recently when I copied and pasted a text block in Fireworks CS5, the block would retain all formatting applied to the copied text block, font, size, color, etc. Now, the pasted block reverts to some default setting. Oddly, if I copy multiple text blocks, the formatting is retained as expected, but not if I copy a single text block. I cannot find a preference that affects this, and I cannot figure out what might have changed. The current behaviour is definitely not desired, and is dramatically affecting my efficiency. Anyone experienced something similar or have any ideas how to correct this? Thanks.
Sure, thanks for replying so quickly. My workflow is simple. My problem is limited to copying and pasting within Fireworks. I typically select an entire block with the main selection arrow but I sometimes use this one too depending on the context. I usually just use the keyboard CTRL-C then CTRL-V to paste. Previously (and I have been using FW for years, it's always been the same) it would paste an identical text block directly over the top of the copied one, and it looked exactly the same, same font, same color, etc. Now, it pastes a new block in the center of the document and all the formatting has reverted to what I guess is the default, in this case Myriad Pro 12pt. The behavior is the same no matter which arrow I use to select the text block. I tried Edit>Copy and Edit>Paste, the effect was the same. The Duplicate function seems to work as desired, but I had never noticed or tried that command before reading your post. Using the keyboard to copy/paste is such an ingrained habit I'd much prefer to continue using it as I always have instead of trying to retrain myself. (I'm old, retraining is hard!)

Most often I copy and paste directly on the canvas, but occasionally will do it within the layers panel. Both now have the same undesired effect. I also tried creating a new document to see if it was a corruption in my current file, but the issue persisted to the new document as well.

Failed to create DNS with ODBC Datadirect Driver - error missing or invalid option

I tried to post a first time and get my post thrown away. So please just tell me if that's not the place to post such questions. I tried this forum because I didn't find any revelant information yet on internet.
I installed Informatica and Oracle 11g, tried to create my DSN with the Driver DataDirect Oracle Wire Protocol. I keep bumping into the message " [Informatica][ODBC Oracle wire protocol driver][Oracle] ora-00922: missing or invalid option".
Can you please help to understand where the error comes from?

While creating TYPE remove semi colon from end of the statement and also dont use extra / as / means execute last statement so you may encounter error..

Towards the end of IFS installation, I get the following error in my

We were having this problem because IFS installation was not recognising a separate tablespace which we created for IFS, so we started using default USERS tablespace after which the installation was successful.

it is not a internal sql language ...
i have no problems when execute it in sql*plus.

1. Extension Manager CS5.5 is used to manager products of CS5.5. Extensions of Fireworks CS5 can only be managed by Extension Manager CS5, which could be downloaded from below link.

2. The '-enable' is used to enable extensions, not product. Fireworks CS5 shall be listed automacially in Extension Manager CS5.

I updated the PKGBUILD to remove the line that says 'gcc -V >&5' from the configure file

Visibone Swatches, Photoshop, Fireworks CS5.5
Visibone swatches are great.
Except in Photoshop CS5.5, the swatch set can't be made narrow enough to show it with colors properly oriented.
And it's apparently not availble for Fireworks CS5 at all.
I'd be grateful for any links to importable swatch sets that give me access at least to visibone1 swatch set in a format that aligns correctly in small swatch thumbnails for these programs. Please tell me that Adobe did not just limit us to making swatch sets that are a minimum of 17 swatches wide when 16 used to be the standard... Really?Noel,

Yes, apparently I missed also the fact that MTSTUNER answered both times, as well, and the answers were both practical. You could also just collapse both drawers or even create a third drawer and pop-up all the required tool pallets instead.
The tool layout is so fluid, it's really hard to guess what will be most useful for one user or another. Different pallets have different minimum widths, and the pallet with the widest minimum width in any specific drawer defines the width of all other pallets in that drawer.
The only way to get the tool pallete to be the correct width for the open drawer is to have it be the only one in the pallet or use
MTSTUNER's suggestion of popping it up temporarily as needed. Either way, it's basically like having it undocked. When it is open and docked in a full drawer, you end up having to create a new swatch pallete for whichever is the widest tool pallete in the drawer, if you can spare the time, or it is worth it to you.
So there are workarounds in Photoshop, and I am grateful for the suggestions, but I wonder why Adobe didn't use the method from FireWorks, where the pallets grow or shrink with whatever the width of the drawer is, at a set swatch pallete width of 21 swatches wide. It probably has something to do with legacy code in photoshop.

Fireworks CS5 buttons don't export into Dreamweaver S5 correctly
I'm very new to fireworks, I've created a design layout in Fireworks CS5 which I've sliced up but when I export the design to Dreamweaver CS5 HTML, the buttons which I've created in Fireworks lose their functionality apart form seeing them as a link,. On the Dreamweaver side I insert Fireworks HTML into a div tag. Its probaly something very simple (hopefully) that I'm missing, any help?

Yes. Don't allow Fireworks or any graphics editor to create HTML for you. Use Graphics apps for Images ONLY. Save images to your DW Local Site folder. Use DW to build your HTML code, rollovers and menus.

I'm running a build script and getting the error below.. My colleges dont get that error building on ubuntu.. I'm running 64 bit arch..
Could this be a missing package or something?

make[1]: *** Waiting for unfinished jobs....but I've been trying to look at the build scripts and I cant find where it adds the -m64 option? Could it be that its added automaticaly by the arch build system somewhere?
And the build script will always build 32 bit so I dont get why they would ever add the -m64 option in our script

I am trying to open Fireworks CS5 and I a getting the following error message.
"Your user privileges do not allow Fireworks to update your registry. Launch and Edit with Dreamweaver will not work properly unitl Fireworks is launched while using Administrative privileges."
The eventually Fireworks opens after I have clicked on "OK" in the error dialogue box. It takes about a dozen clicks on "OK" before it opens though.
Any help how to fix would be greatly appreciated.Found the answer....

Follow these simple steps and your problem will be fixed.
1. Press the START button.
2. In the "Start Search" type RUN.
3. Within RUN type regedit
4. Within regedit select HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT
5. Within HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT select Applications
6. Select shell, then open, then command.
7. A default file will be on the right side of the screen- double click on it and ensure that the path is correct.
Mine was:
"C:\Program Files (x86)\Adobe\Adobe Fireworks CS4\Fireworks.exe" "%1"
I changed to:
"C:\Program Files (x86)\Adobe\Adobe Fireworks CS5\Fireworks.exe" "%1"
You will now be able to make Fireworks CS5 your default program.
