Firing Properties Changed Event

I have a large program that uses a properties file. The user can edit this in the program. I would like this to fire some kind of event to a number of classes to tell them that the properties have changed, instead of making the user close and re-open the program for these changes to take effect.
The changes are done in a method called updateSettings() and I'd like this method to broadcast the events. But the class this method is in doesn't know about the classes that I want 'updated'. I think I have to make these classes subscribe to some kind of listener. I've looked at PropertyChangeListener, and it looks like it might be ok, but my code doesn't use JavaBeans and I don't know how to. Usually I would do a bunch of reading but I don't have much time to get this job done so any help would be appreciated. Cheers.

The Observable-Observer wasn't really what I was after. But those articles on event generation were helpful. My lazy brain was in gear this morning (unlike last night when I posted in this forum!) so I was able to get it all to work. I'd never made my own events before, so I have learned something too, and it didn't take me too long which is a bonus.

How do I capture this event and code against it. Previously used this code to trap click event:

I am obviously not an expert with the Yahoo widgets, but I'm learning.
This stopped working for some reason. However the CFDebug consistently shows the subject event happening on every mouse click. I'd rather just use that. Any ideas?

Roy, have you tried to reduce the complexity of your user case?
Try your use case with a simple page without a region in it first and see if you get the eating them. If yes add a region to your page and verify you get the result you expect. Only then add the portal stuff.
This will help to narrow down the error.

Shopping Cart Workflow - "Wait for change event" not firing?

Hi there,
I have a scenario where if I create a shopping cart above my spending limit it will go into the approver's inbox, that is fine.
Now if I change the total value of the shopping cart to be within my spending limit the original workflow should be "logically deleted" and a "no step approval workflow" should be triggered.
I see when the SC workflow triggers it also branches with a "wait for events", so that if it changes etc it will get caught here.
When I change the SC it does not do anything, the value of the cart changes but it still sits in the approvers inbox and the "no step approval workflow" does not trigger.
We are busy upgrading to SRM 5.0, it worked perfectly in the SRM 3.0 system we had.
Any ideas what would cause the "change event" not to fire?

You are the man!! That solved it.....I have implemented the BBP_WFL_SECUR_BADI and for whatever reason I set the security level to 4 when it should have been 2.
4     "High" (workflow is never restarted when changes are made)
3     "Medium" (WF restarted conditionally when changes are made)
2     "Low" (workflow is always restarted when changes are made)
1     "None" (changes to the object are not allowed)
0     "Not defined"

Textinput change event is not firing in datagrid

i am using simple datagrid in which textinput is rendered in one column of grid.i want to apply dateformatter on that textinput for this i call a function on change event of that textinput but surprisingly change event is not occuring on textInput.can anybody please guide me how to fire change event of rendered textinput. or is there any way to apply dateformmter on datagrid's textinput rendrer.

Drop Down Lists and Value Change Events

I have 4 drop down lists each with a set of values from the database.
Based on the value of the first list(ValueChangeEvent only for list1) , I fetch data from the database and set the 'selected value' in the other lists.
I have a Submit button which takes values from these 4 lists and puts it in the database.
Problem:
I change list 2 through list 4 and hit a Submit button which inserts all the values in the database.
However,on Clicking the Submit button I never get the new selected values, it always refers to the previously fetched values.
I tried to recreate this case in a Sandbox without a database , Here is the code:

I just realized the reason why this is not working, I found the reason in your article Populating Child Menu's article, I am just
putting it as a reference here.
One concern is that the skipping of the UPDATE_MODEL_VALUES will also cause that the new values of the menu's which have immediate="true" set won't be set in the backing bean. This can partly be fixed by getting the new value from the ValueChangeEvent inside the valueChangeListener method and assign it to the appropriate property. But this won't work for other menu's of which the valueChangeListener isn't been invoked. This would cause problems if you select a child menu value and then select the parent menu back to null and then reselect it to same value again, the child menu which will show up again would remain the same selection instead of null while its child will not be rendered! To solve this we need to bind the menu's to the backing bean so that we can use UIInput#setValue() and UIInput#getValue() to set and get the actual values.+ The JSF lifecycle will set and get them in the RESTORE_VIEW and RENDER_RESPONSE phases respectively.+
I am not sure I understand whether or not it is a limitation but the reason above is valid and I rolled back to binding my menus and getting to work with that.
Is Binding UI components a wise idea because most of the attributes can be programmed using properties in Backing Beans unless you have to build new components?

Dynamic Action, validation check, on an Item, could not use Change event

I am learning how to use Dynamic Actions in a 3.2.x app that was upgraded to 4.0.x. I wanted to share what I learned adding client side validation with these actions. Perhaps an Apex guru could suggest an easier method to use this feature.
I have an existing function where a user selects multiple rows in a report page, and then assigns a single status and enters justification text for the selected rows in another page, then saves changes (via submit).
One item, justification, is required. I replaced my JavaScript validation of an empty value, e.g., P10_JUSTIFICATION.value, with a dynamic action. The Change event was a candidate for this item, with the "is not null" Condition. However, it is possible to initiate this screen to review the status, overlook the justification text and immediately select a button to save changes. No Change event has fired. The Before Page Submit event was applicable here. This Event selection in the wizard does not provide the Item for definition and then the Condition wasn't the right context though available for selection. I selected JavaScript expression for the Condition, actually entered my original JS test expression, and created one True Action. The True action displays an Alert to tell the user that required text is missing.
Test of this DA was not completely successful. The alert appeared but the page went on to submit anyway. I found I had to add another True Action, Cancel Event, to stop the submit. The DA was then successful.
The Apex site examples, [http://st-curriculum.oracle.com/obe/db/apex/r40/apexdynactions/apexdynactions_ll.htm] , do a great job showing use of Change and Set Value events for Items but a user may not always navigate through items. These features were promoted for developers with no to little knowledge of JavaScript to use Apex for application development. This DA required using/understanding JS anyways.
My next step is to implement actions on a tabular form that that has required values. It is disconcerting that I have read in the forum that the column value references such as f0x and its row number are required to get it all working (as a DOM or JQuery selector). I have already found that tabular form columns can be re-ordered from v3.2.1 to 4.0.x. I was hoping I could declare dynamic actions or simpler Javascript methods that would not rely on f0x array references.

Double value change event if cursor is set busy (LV2009)

Hello everybody,
I just migrated from LV 8.0 to LV 2009 (on linux) and now got problems with a value change event. I want to send a command if a button is pressed and send another one if the button is released. After sending the command I need to wait for an acknowledge from the receiver and to avoid user interaction in between I lock the cursor with "set busy" VI until the acknowledge is received. To see, when the button is pressed or released, I use a value change event. Inside the event structure the cursor is set busy.
This worked reliable in LV 8.0 but not any more in LV 2009. The button's mechanical action is set to "switch until released" and if I press the button and keep it pressed it is reset to false automatically. The value change event is fired twice instead of only once (see attached vi) and "new value" is one time true and one time false. This doesn't happen if the mechanical action is set to "switch when pressed".
Does anybody have an explanation or a workaround for this behaviour? Am I doing something wrong or is this a bug in LV? For now I'll just keep the cursor unlocked.

a) When AT NEW occurs,
the alpha-numeric fields have ******* in their value,
b) where as in case of ON CHANGE,
the alpha-numeric fields have their corresponding value,

ON CHANGE OF can be used any where in the program..

Contextual Event question (Currency Change Event)

Hello,
I have published a contextual event on my table (Currency Change Event)
I also have a SelectionListener on the same table.
Will I have to manually/programmatically publish the event within the selection listener code? (and if so, how?)
The reason I ask is that I practiced with a small app containing a region from an ADF library that handled currency change event from the referenced task flow and everything was great, but now I am trying to apply the same principles to my "proper" application and there is no currency change event being received in the parent application.
I had a look at Andrejus example (http://andrejusb.blogspot.co.uk/2010/10/contextual-events-framework-and-adf-11g.html) but he has hand crafted the events on the page binding will I have to do that too? Is it not enough that I have the currency change event declared?

I've applied the same processing to another table that uses the standard collectionModel.makeCurrent selection listener and it's firing the contextual event handler in the parent application, so that almost confirms that it's the bespoke selection listener that needs code adding to it to invoke the currency change event

Will "Value change" events fire when changed via ActiveX?

I have a VI with an Event Structure defining several Value Changed events. These events are associated with various buttons on the control panel. When I work through the panel and press the buttons, the events fire correctly. However, if I connect via the COM/ActiveX control and change the control values, the button indicator light changes, but the Value Change event does not fire. Can we trigger value changed events remotely or must they be triggered via a mouse-click on the button?

Drag & Drop kills Tree Change event

I have a tree that I am dragging from to a HorizontalList.
Anyway, I have the actual drag and drop working fine. However, my
tree has a handler for it's change event so that when the selected
item changes, a web service lookup is initiated. After the drag and
drop the tree appears to have a different item selected, however
the change event does not fire. Also if I manually click on the
same row that already appears selected, the event fires and my
lookup is kicked off.
It's like after the drag drop the tree's selected item
appears selected VISUALLY but the tree does not know it is the
selected item.
HELP PLEASE.
P.S. - I am using Flex 2.01 by the way.

The trick is not to use the tree drag* properties of the
control and instead use the DragManager to do custom drag and drop.
This allows to listen to mouse down events and evaluate
whether to useDragManager.doDrag() to initiate a drag.

LOV value change event is getting triggered automatically

I'm using ADF Faces with EJB. I have a page with a LOV defined as:

When this page is run the first time and no value exists in the managed bean property bound to LOV field (updateContact.reference_id_meaning) then it all works fine. But if the managed bean property has any value then clicking any button which submits data triggers the LOV change event (backing_contactUpdate.investorLovChange_action). Once a new value is selected in the LOV then the event doesn't get triggered. How can I make the state of LOV field as validated, so that the change event doesn't get fired?

Additional Information:
The backing bean and managed bean both are at request scope.
Another problem I'm facing is that the value change event is not fired when the value in the LOV field is deleted (set to blank).

Help with value change events

I need to be able to use the value change event to handle sorting and control the properties of a multicolumn listbox. I have a slow loop that runs every 10 seconds and acquires new data if it's available. New data is appended directly to the list box. The event structure handles two events. One to change colors of the text when new data is added and another to sort the contents when a user clicks on the column header. The first event seems to work just fine. It only runs when new data is added. The second event is the problem. It runs every time the loop runs and ties up the user interface so that it does not respond.
What am I doing wrong??
By the way, it seems that whatever I am doing wrong crashes LabVIEW while I am
editing the vi. Probably during a partial compile. LabVIEW crashed twice while I was creating this test vi and I don't normally have trouble with LabVIEW crashing. It has crashed in both the transact.cpp and panel.cpp.

I have made a few quick modifications, see attached.
-- The lower loop should probably be a plain loop, since the timing is done by the event structure.
-- You cannot use a shift register in the upper loop if you want the acquired list to remain sorted.
Sorry, I am on vacation in the middle of nowhere and only spend a few minutes on this. There are many improvements possible.

Just writing data to an indicator terminal doesn't cause a value change event.
The only things that cause a value change event are user interaction with a control, or writing to the Value (Signalling) property of a control or indicator.

Need help going to error page from jsf component value change event

Afternoon all,
I have a jsp page which uses jsf components and when one of the jsf combo boxes components handles an value change event, the method 'handleTestComboValueChange' is fired.
Within this method if an error is caught I would like to display an error page instead of the currently displayed page.
Can some one tell me how to do this. I tried to use getFacesContext().getExternalContext().redirect("errorpage.jsp"); but I just got an illegalStackException error.
Any help would be great.
