Fitting poisson distribution

how do i fit a histogram to Poisson distribution ?
My problem is in incorporating with the factorial in denominator. How do I do that ? I could not even try the gamma function in the formula node (gamma(x+1) = x!). Can anyone please help me in this. I am using Labview 7.1.
I read another post saying that it is not possible in labview 7.1 ! is it true ?
Thanks

  • FPGA Poission Random Number

    Hello,
I have Xilinix Virtex 5 FPGA and i want to implement poisson random number generator.
FPGA works at 100 MHz clock and at every cycle it should calculate poisson random number. Mean value of poisson distribution can change at every clock cycle. I want to make random time pulse generator with possion distribution. Pulse rate can vary between 1 and 1 billion pulses per second.
How i can make this generator? Please, help

    b,
There are two kinds of randomn number generators that are commonly implemented in a FPGA device:  a true random number generator (very hard to do), and a pseudo random number generator (trival to do).
The pseudo  random generator is done using linear feedback shift registers, and its statistics are well understood, and do not vary (in fact, the sequence repeats depending on the length of the LFSR).
Attached is a form of true random number generator.
To get a specific distribution (e.g. Poisson) you would need to verify and [perhaps filter the genberated numbers.
Poisson being as close to radomn as possible (for example, radioactive decay times are Poisson distributed), a true randomn number generator is where I would start (the attachment).

  • Error message when Numbers asked for zero to the power of zero.

    Hi,
I have recently converted my Appleworks spreadsheets to Numbers. I have a spreadsheet that performs Poisson Distribution calculations. This was no problem for AppleWorks which correctly returned the value of 1 when asked to calculate zero to the power of zero. However, Numbers '09 v 2.2 returns an error message instead. Must I reinstall OS X 10.6 and go back to AppleWorks or is there a solution?

    Hugh,
It may be common for calculators to return 1 for 0^0, but it's not correct. 0^0 is an "indeterminate form".
To quote the Wikipedia page on Indeterminate Forms:
    The indeterminate forms include 00, 0/0, 1∞, ∞ − ∞, ∞/∞, 0 × ∞, and ∞0.
Trapping the error and setting the result with IFERROR would be simple, but perhaps too wide a net. You should be able to test the base number for zero prior to making the calculation.

  • Arithmetic with large numbers

    Hi
I am developing code to find the poisson distribution. It contains computations with large scale decimal values
The below is the formula to find the poisson distribution.
    (exp(-Rate)* Power(Rate, Count)/ Factorial(Count));
But the problem here is if the value of the rate increases the exp(-rate) value will be reaching towards zero.
Since double is of 8 bytes it's rounding off to zero after a certain value. I tried to use BigDecimal. But BigDecimal doesn't support exponential operations.
pl suggest any solution for this.
    ur help is highly appreciated.

Double probably isn't rounding off to zero, it's just not printing all 53 bits of the mantissa. It can support numbers down to 1 * 2**-1024, if I'm not mistaken.
And BigDecimal supports exponentiation with the pow() method.

  • Queueing system simulation

This may be too big to ask, but let me give it a shot.
I'm trying to simulate a simple M/M/1 queue.
Thinking of an ATM machine will explain the situation. Customers come to the ATM machine according to Poisson distribution, and they use the machine if possible, and wait if not. The time one customer spends with the ATM machine is exponentially distributed. What I would like to know is for the first 10 hours, the average time a customer spends in a system, and the average number of customers in the system.
I know there are lots of programs and even well-functioning java code doing this stuff, but what I would like to do is as following.
In this kind of system, you keep the state of the system as the number of customers. Then there are two possible events that can change the current state. Either a arrival occurs, or a service completion (departure) occurs. So, I would like to keep a clock of two events. So the clock will say how many more seconds left for the next arrival and next departure(if applicable.Arrivals are always possible to happen, but departures can't happen when there are no customers in the system) Then the event with the less number happens, and now generate a newly active event, and keep the one that was active (possible need to be updated a little as the clocks are indicating the leftover time), and compare the clock again, and so on.
I don't know if I'm making myself clear.
The whole functioning code will be great, but please let me know if you have any ideas for the class designs. I'm completely new to the programming, and any thoughts will be appreciated.
    Thx

If this was the homework, I could have used other resources like the TA's and other friends to start with. It was my own interest to do it, but now I got the firm idea that this wasn't proper spot to ask for it.

  • Distribution model of cep load generator

    Hi guys,
Do you happen to know the distribution model (eg. Poisson ,uniform...) of Oracle CEP load generator?
    Cheers,
    Alireza

Seems there is no documentation for this.
My curve fitting experiment shows it does not follow a particular distribution. For example for rate 100 tuple per second the distribution model is t location-scale for some queries, whereas for rate 50k and 100k the distribution is more fit to Weibull and generalized extreme value distribution.
I just wanted to insert some pics here but the system gives me error. Anyway, this is the answer.

  • Distribution Rule in Incoming Payment of Invoice

    Hello Experts,
    I'm running SAP B1 8.81 PL05 and I have the following problem.
I issue an A/R Invoice + Payment  and I have in the "Payment Means" a discount. The final result is an issue of two different journal entries - one for the invoice and another for the payment discount.
The problem is that I want to have a Distribution Rule associated with the Incoming Payment discount and I can't find a way to associate it - the solution of associating a distribution rule to the account is not possible because the Distribution Rule changes according to the sales employee.
    Help would be very appreciated.

    Hi Thomas,
From the SAP help, you can know what is the use of this rule.
    Defining Distribution Rules
    Use
For cost accounting, this setting is mandatory.
Use this procedure to define distribution rules to distribute amounts between different profit centers.
    Prerequisites
    You have defined profit centers.
Note: If you delete a distribution rule for one profit center (100%) this does not automatically delete the profit center.
You can also look up this key word to find more info. For examle, you can find SAP note 1236348 to see if it fits you.

  • How to smooth out discontinuous spacial distribution gradients

    Hi all.
I'm controlling a linear motion device, and need to generate displacement paths for it to obey. What I'd like is to smooth out the 'sharp edges' in my profile data (for example, at points where it may go from a slow forward motion to a faster forward motion). Technically, this is removing the discontinuities in the spacial distribution differential, but in other words all I need to do is "smooth my data".
I've mimicked what I want to achieve by putting some hand-created numbers into this graph -->
The yellow line is my original profile data. You can see that I'll be moving the device from position 45 at time 0 to position 52 at time 5 and finally position 53 at time 9. This is fine, but I'd like to smooth out the motion a bit and avoid that nasty elbow at time=5 a bit.
The blue line is what I'd like. A smooth run from position 46 at time 0 to position 53 at 9 seconds, that preserves the velocities (gradients of the profile line) at the beginning and end. The reason for this is that the motor will arrive at position 46 (time 0) at the velocity inferred by the first gradient, and will continue beyond position 53 after time=9 at the speed inferred by the end gradient. Therefore I must not change the gradients of the line at the beginning and end.
I've tried using the many Signal Filtering techniques LabVIEW has available, but I've found that they create problems:
    1. They don't preserve the beginning and end gradients, and
    2. They tend not to like the very few sample points I have here. (If I interpolote the yellow line to create intermediate points, the filtering works better, but still suffers from point 1)
I've tried using the B-Spline curve fit, but that seems also not to respect the gradients.
I've tried the cubic spline fit, but that doesn't return the extra points I need to create the blue curve the way I've shown here.
Does anyone have any advice? I thought this would be simple, but I'm a bit stuck now but I suspect that there'll be someone out there that's had to do this too.Naively I expected there to be a simple function called "Smooth Data", but clealy not.
Many thanks in advance for any responses received.

I recall that note when I propose idea like the following that some math type will tell me has not physical meaning and dismiss it off-hand. But since I don't limit myself to what is allowed or legal...

When yo ufilter you loose data at the front and back-end with the number of points of data loss being determined by the order of the filer. • How do I encrypt a pdf file (ebook) to prevent unauthorized distribution of my ebook?

    Hi, guys.
I am planning to sell my ebook from my website. It is in Word format. I would like to create a PDF file for viewers since it is versatile, then encrypt the PDF file to prevent unauthorized distribution of my book. How do I do that?
    Thanks
    genesis

If you want to be friendly to your users, generate encrypted .epub format and not .pdf.
pdf is great for its original purpose of print preparation, but terrible for more flexible formats.
As different ereaders have different screen sizes and resolutions, and different people will want to read with different font sizes (**),
pdf format will be very hostile in all cases except the one that excactly fits how you make the pdf.
I think that InDesgin will create encrypted epub or pdf files for you.
For the encryption to be effective for your purposes you need to encrypt differently for different AdobeIDs.
Looks as if Adobe's official way to do that is Adobe Content Server.
I suspect the cost of all that adds up quite a bit; you may want to look at third party solutions that handle all the infrastructure for you.
(**) or even the same person: I change font sizes depending how tired I am.

  • Bandwidth from Access Layer to Distribution Layer

    Folks:
I am currently on Chapter 12 of “CCNP Switching 642-813, Official Certification Guide” ISBN: 978-1-58720-243-8. I am currently not grasping the three layers entirely, and I was hoping someone could offer insight in a different way.
I believe I understand, that switches in the Access-Layer can be layer2 devices (2950, etc), and devices in the Distribution Layer should be Multilayer devices such as Layer-3 switches (3750) and inter-vlan routing takes place at the Distribution layer. But what I do not understand – how does one account for bandwidth and traffic from the Access Layer switches to the Distribution Switches?
Let use a 24 port 2950 switch located at the Access-Layer. If everyone was online and communicating, the total traffic for the switch would be 4.8 Gbps. The latter is due to each port providing 100 Mbps but in Full-Duplex, so (100*2)*24. So, how does an engineer spec out the required uplink ports from the Access Layer to the Distribution?
I am sure this is easy; however, I am not getting the concepts. Any insight is great.

As noted by Peter, edge hosts don't generally all concurrently push/pull their full port bandwidth for substained periods.  However, host bandwidth usage often varies much by "kind" of host.  For example, many server hosts are "busier" than most user hosts, so when designing networks you normally design for lower oversubscription ratios for server hosts than for user hosts.  Old rule-of-thumbs ratios suggest oversubscription ratios of about 8:1 to 4:1 for servers, and about 48:1 to 24:1 for users.
Keep in mind that oversubscription ratios can be "skewed" by what the host is doing, i.e. not all server or user hosts have similar bandwidth demands.  For example, your primary mail server or primary file server might be much "busier" than other server hosts.  Likewise, some user hosts might be much "busier", for example, years ago I supported a LAN segment of CADD (20) workstations which had more traffic on their local LAN than the (2,000 user) corporate backbone.

  • In a huge campus network design, should be the Core layer operate on L3 if the Distribution is operating on L3?

Or the routing overhead is less if the Core is operating on L2?
    For example:
Wan routers and Dist L3 switches connect to Core switches (L2)
Access layer L2 switches connects to Dist.
So Access layer SW's do Diffserv marking, Dist layer switches do queuing, the inter vlan routing as well as routing and the core only forwards traffic based on L2.
Is it a valid design? Should the core also have QoS?
    Thanks!

Yes, you can have a L2 core, but as Rick has noted, modern designs lean toward L3 cores.
There are, even today, pros and cons to each, but the biggest factor would be a modern L3 core would normally use L3 switches, rather than traditional routers.  Generally you want the core to move packets as quickly as possible, and L2 switches were generally better at that than "traditional" routers.  L3 switches, though, have nearly L2 switch performance, so the performance difference isn't much of issue any longer (especially with CEF L3 switches and/or MPLS).
BTW, not something you'll see in many current design documents, but modern L3 switches are so powerful and support so many ports, that you might have distribution and access just L2.
If you're doing QoS, yes I would recommend it also be enabled in the core too, L2 or L3.

  • Problems moving distribution from one environment toanother

    Hi all,
Problems moving distribution from one environment to another
Initially we have the environment as below:-
    Production :-
Server1 : AIX Environment manager (dealing with conductor, web, db)
Server2 : NT Node manager (dealing with outlook)
    Development :-
Server3 : NT Environment manager (dealing with conductor, web, db)
Server4 : NT Node manager (dealing with outlook)
Currently, we intended to change the production environment via
changing the Server1 to Server3, as the new environment
manager, while the node manager unchanged.
Things that we've done in Server2, the node manager for
    production environment:-
    1) Pointing to Server3 instead of Server1, by changing Forte
Control Panel and changing registry entry.
    2) Re-deploy the needed libraries in the new environment, so
that it can has the updated version.
    3) Re-olegen the vb component.
    4) Re-deploy the whole application.
However, we're facing the following problems/error messages
for the newly deployed Forte application:
    1) Failed to bind to object named (/wfuseraccessobj/odbso/1)
    2) Failed to bind to object named (/wfuseraccessobj/emailso/1)
These errors are actually refer to the libraries that used by
Conductor in order to perform database retrieval, and emailing
functions. These functions were worked properly in the initial
    environments.
NOTE: The first error could be okay when refreshing the internet browser
(as our system is a web-based system), somehow it keeps on occurring every
    now and then.
Please advice on this matter and reply ASAP as the project
delivery is crucial for our side.

    Lori,
Yes. I organize all my film rolls by name. If I import new pictures that don't fit into an existing film roll name I create a new film roll with a name appropriate to the theme of the new pictures. No problem with this.
However, if I import pictures at a later date that I want to move to an existing film roll, there is a problem if scrolling is required to bring the existing film roll into view in the display pane.
For example, I have a film roll called "Flowers & Plants". I later import a roll that contains some pictures that I want to move to the Flowers & Plants roll. The Flowers & Plants roll is not visible in the display pane so scrolling is necessary. I select and drag the new pictures up (the new film roll is always at the bottom of the display pane) to reveal the Flowers & Plants film roll. However, the film rolls scroll by so fast it is virtually impossible to stop on the Flowers & Plants roll's title bar.
This was not a problem with earlier versions of iPhoto on slower Macs. I really appreciate the much improved iPhoto/Mac performance but I wish there were some way to control this aspect.
    I hope this helps.
    Thanks.
    Mike

  • Trial by fire.  Three camera fitness shoot. TC fed by DVCAM Deck.

    Hi all,
I am embarking on a three camera shoot for two 90 minute fitness videos. The timecode will be fed to all three cameras by a DVCAM deck that we are also using to play the live music that the performers will be exercising to. This way all four sources (three cameras & 1 music) all have the same Time code.
Although I see a million potential editing Gotchyas in this scenario (and there are probably a million more that I don't see), I only have one question at this time...
    Regarding FCP Capturing...
Whenever the performers mess up and we have to rewind the music (DVCAM) and reshoot a section, the timecode (that FCP will need to read) on all three cameras will suddenly jump backwards by a few minutes. We will be very careful to pre-roll and post-roll the music before starting or stopping cameras so we do not actually BREAK the timecode, but the actual TC clock will be jumping backwards with every take. This seems like it might be difficult to capture for FCP... any thoughts?
    Thanks for your brainstorming.

    Heya Zeb...
No problem on the TC IN on the cameras. Panasonic AJ-SDX900.
Regarding distribution of signal... feel free to point me in a direction... I have no idea and am on the hunt for just that piece of info.
Regarding VTR: Sony DSR-45. Has TC out, I hope it only spits out TC when the tape is rolling.... otherwise my whole paradigm is a house-o-cards.
    Regarding logging and capturing:
I assume that I am going to have to dust off my old fashion logging chops. Since I will have multiple instances of the same timecode on a single tape, I will probably have to manually set the in and out points and capture for each take. Then set the in and out points and capture the next take... etc.
My DP is trying to convince me to use a smart-slate... we are going back-n-forth about the pro's and con's.
A TC Generator will take care of many of the problems with the shoot, but it isn't the best answer as far as creating an editable (and more importantly, a re-editable) product. Remember, this whole thing is the equivalent of a three hour music video that is edited from probably about 20 hours of tape.
The TC generator will sync the cameras together, but I will still depend on older visual methods to sync the video to the music. When you have takes that are 15 to 25 minutes long, it would kind of stink to have to drop a 20 minute clip into the timeline and sync it, just because I wanted to find a 1 second long b-roll cut at the 18 minute mark.
IF, I can drive the entire shoot from a VTR that plays the performance music AND outputs timecode to three cameras.... seems to me that I will have hit a sweet spot for this type of production.
The music, and videotapes from three cameras will be in sync. If I "media manage" the project to a storage drive (or just want to offfload 15 hours of unused footage) the remaining clips will all have the right timecode embedded so when my client wants another complilation video, I can move things around with the knowledge that they will be in sync by simply lining up the TC.
