Fixing Footage Shot with wrong filter on Sony F900, color correction, underexposed film

Hello everyone...
I am new to the forums but have been with Adobe since CS3. I love Premier Pro and have fully abandones FCP 2-3 years ago for the first CS5. I was out shooting a SONY F900, which i am not used to (as I work primarily with small format and dslr workflows) and I made the TOTAL ROOKIE MISTAKE of shooting on the 1A rollable filter setting... rather than the 1B which is for indoor tungsten. I didn't have a monitor with me or available, so through the BW view finder... i had no idea it was wrong. The result is that I lost a stop and a half in an already lowlight setting... and the minus blue filter of the 1A (or daylight / 56K) setting removed color depth and turned every thing kind of washed out orange.
I am confident that i can bring it back to acceptable through color correction and i have been training on Speed grade tutorials like crazy. I am proficient in Premier and After Effects workflows but have never dealt directly with this.
Any help of steps to take in general would be appreciated and I thank you in advance for your help.

Yeah... I feel like a tool for it. I have been shooting for a decade and a started on full broadcast shoulder mounts. I just have drifted sooo farrr over the past five years that I forgot about it. No excuse on my end. I have "colorista" for after effects. Part of the red giant suite right? Or am i mistaken?... Would you share the best simple approach to the settings for that plugin. Which version of PrE are you looking into? PrE 10 has DSLR Presets that cover the Canon 5D. Not sure about the XDCAM EX, but this ARTICLE covers the supported formats. I know that PrPro CS 5.5 offers full, native support for XDCAM footage, but do not see it in the PrE list.

De-graining footage shot with high gain

I am trying to de-grain some footage that was shot with the gain inadvertently set to medium or high. The footage is a lock-down shot of a person speaking on a stage. Very little movement. It was shot in HDV at 1080i60 using a decent Sony 3-chipper. Once edited, it will be compressed for delivery on SD DVD. I understand that removing grain may soften the image, and that is probably acceptable.
A couple questions:
1. Is there a good solution (a filter, perhaps) within FCS 2 that I can use to "de-grain"?
2. Is there a good solution outside FCS 2 that I can use to de-grain?

So, if you were locked in a room with no internet access and only FCS2 on your computer (i.e. no 3rd party plug-ins), how would you try to reduce the noise? Would you superimpose a copy of the clip on V2 and apply some sort of filter/opacity trick?
I was trapped in a room once with no internet access and had video that was shot in really low light. I duplicated the clip on V2 and used the 3-way color corrector to increase the white levels and saturation on each clip. It did the trick but I still had noise.

IMovie footage shot with Canon XL2 looks exports to m4v which looks lousy

Video shot with Canon XL2, captured/imported into iMovie, it looks good in iMovie but when sharing it, it turns into m4v. Is this correct? Burned DVD in iDVD and it looks lousy. Isn't it supposed to be a mov file and not m4v?

Does that require me to get rid of my 100 Hz or 200 Hz screen and exchange it for a 24 Hz screen?
No. This stuff looks equally good on CRT, Plasma or LCD. (Though I do recommend leaving off such things as 100 Hz modes, as they have a tendency to produce the opposite effect, making film look more like video.)

Where on earth did you get that idea? Film is always shown theatrically as whole frames, whether 24 or 48 fps.

How can I use footage shot with a phone app?

I have shot footage on my phone using a filtered app called Majicam. When I play it in premiere it plays as a green screen. Do I need to alter something about the footage in order for Premiere to recognise it? Please help.

How to fix tables created with wrong initial extents

1.We have many tables which are created with very large intial extents. Is there a way to reduce or resize initial extent?
2.When I export the *.dmp is about 200MG, but the tablespace is more than a gig full. Why is that?
3.I have a table with about 300,000 rows and calculated the table size to be around 86M. Should I create the initial extent here to be around 100M?
4.I tried to do alter table ExampleTable deallocate unused, but did not help why is that?

Probably it is due of inefficient on managing the objects, which are heavily taken by tables/indexes. Tables/indexes were created oversize than estimation of data size.

Yes, it is possible. Usually split into 2-5 extents is better.

The next paragraph is guoted from Oracle documentation :
"Use the deallocate_unused_clause to explicitly deallocate unused space at the end of the table, partition or subpartition, overflow data segment, LOB data segment, or LOB index and makes the space available for other segments in the tablespace. You can free only unused space above the high water mark (that is, the point beyond which database blocks have not yet been formatted to receive data)".
Most probably on your case there is no unused block over the last used block on this table. So the deallocate function doesn't give any effect. As you described, the last used block is 11381 which is get from TOTAL_BLOCKS minus UNUSED_BLOCKS.

Problem importing footage shot with p2 cards

I have a project that I've been importing into FCP. Most of the files imported fine.
I have two folders that Total 23 GB, and for some reason, nothing happens when I try to import them.
I noticed that the "lastclip.txt" file is missing. Would this be a problem?

Try downloading (for free) the P2CMS application from Panasonic. That allows you to organize and import the footage.

Entered username for site with wrong case. Because spelling is correct Firefox keeps changing entry to what I entered 1st time. I cannot log in.

In this case I entered harkdog, but my username is HarkDog. I can no longer enter anything other than harkdog in the username field - including the one I just used to set up an account in FireFox Help. I may type HarkDog, but harkdog is automatically entered.

Please do the following. 
#Click the orange Firefox button, then click Options | Options | Privacy. 
#In the History menu, use the dropdown menu to change the setting to "Use custom settings for history". 
#Underneath that, remove the checkmark from "Remember search and form history". 
#In the same menu, click the "Show Cookies" button. 
#Find the site where the problem occurs and delete the cookie for it. 
#Click OK to close the menu. 
#Click the orange Firefox button and go to History, then "Clear Recent History". 
#In the menu at the top, change the setting to "Everything". 
#Click the arrow immediately underneath that one and remove the checkmark from "Browsing and Download History", "Cookies" and "Site Preferences", leaving only "Cache" and "Active Logins" checkmarked. 
#Click the "Clear Now" button (''it might take a minute or two to clear'') 
#Close Firefox and restart it again. 
If you want Firefox to retain your nick when you change it, go back to the menu in step 3 and replace the checkmark.

DVCPRO HD footage problems with Quicktime 10 and MacBook Pro

I am trying to open DVCPRO HD footage in Quicktime 10 on my computer and just get black screen with no video. Cannot get these files to play yet can get other ones to play, just not the DVCPRO HD footage shot with Panasonic P2 cards. I can play the same files in Quicktime 10 on other computers with Snow Lion and on my tower with Lion. These will just not work on my MacBook Pro 10.7.5 Everything is up to date. Can anybody trouble shoot this for me? HELP!

I have the same model as you with the same upgrades (8GB RAM, high-res screen) and began to experience similar problems around the same time as you. And like you, I managed to work around the problem with gfxCardStatus for awhile. It was less than ideal though, since my email client, for example, uses the discrete graphics card. After a week or two, the problem got worse and my computer became virtually unusable. The screen would start to flicker at the log-in prompt, forcing me to reboot again. I could only make it to my desktop 1 time out of 10, if that. The Apple Hardware Test (both regular and extended) revealed no problems. I removed some software that I had installed the day before the problem started on the off chance that was the cause, but still it continued. I also tried to boot with a Linux LiveCD to verify that it was, in fact, a hardware issue and not software related, but never managed.
Finally, I brought the machine into my local Apple reseller (there are no Apple Stores where I live) for repairs. It was easy enough to demonstrate the issue, and they ended up replacing the motherboard, since that's the only way to replace the discrete graphics card. The turnaround time was about a week. All covered under the standard warranty (I don't have AppleCare). I've had my computer back for a couple of days now, and it's been running smoothly. No problems with the screen, and I feel confident enough to remove gfxCardStatus.
I hope you've managed to solve your problem by now. Even if your computer passes the Genius Bar hardware diagnostic tool, surely you should be able to demonstrate the issue to the technician and they'll see something is clearly wrong.

I have not seen this particular condition where the hardware disk icon appears but the system volume that is supposed to be below it does not. The System Disk partition would be below the HD icon indented to the right. It is usually called “Macintosh HD” unless you renamed it.

Odd. It appears but you cannot manipulate it with Disk Utility.

If it did not say Verified then it would indicate a problem. Saying Verified does not rule out problems but I think it indicates it is still breathing.

If you booted the Recovery Partition (Boot, Command-R), which it sounds like you did, then at least part of the disk is still breathing. If it took a long time to boot then that may have been a Network Recovery boot which would indicate the disk is very sick or dead.

Yes. That is the beauty of Time Machine. All your data, applications, and system preferences will be as they were as of the last backup.

Given what you reported from the Disk Utility steps you took it is unclear to me if there will be a way to repair the current volume, if you can erase and install from scratch or if you need a new disk. Before proceeding it may be useful to have an expert at an Apple store look at it for you. They may be able to revive it without a clean install or new disk.
As was the case above, it could be a good disk with a bad cable in which case a new disk is not going to help. To test this you can purchase an inexpensive external enclosure, remove the internal disk, place it in the enclosure, plug it in and then use Boot-Option to attempt to boot from the now external disk. If you attempt a clean install, use the Partition tab to repartition the disk, selecting one partition and with “Options…” electing a GUID partition. Then use the Erase tab, select “Security Options…” and set it to write a single pass of zeros. This will write to every sector to map out bad blocks. (If you have an SSD do not write a pass of zeros.)
If you do need to replace it I recommend an new inexpensive (~$100) and super-fast hybrid SSHD drive that has an 8 GB SSD cache that makes the data fly. Google “Seagate 1 TB hybrid SSHD”.

Why is my rendered color corrected movie pixelated with jagged edges after rendering?

I am new short film movie producer and have just started using Adobe Premiere CS6 and Audition CS6. Comparing my flat footage before adding it to a sequence and color correcting it and rendering it, it looks fair. But after all these transitions it now looks pixelated along with very jagged edges. This is my first short film for my first client and I am at my witts ends! I have tried to copy the sequence and transfer it to a new sequence with differnt settings comparing the pixel aspect ration, fps, trying to match the clips specs and I am so stuck. Can anyone please offer any suggestions or let me know if there are procedures I have overlooked. Thanks Adobe Community.

Let's back up a step - what camera do you use? If it's an HDV model, then yes you have anamorphic footage. Simply choose an HDV sequence preset to match. If your camera shoots 720p or full 1920x1080, those are square pixel (1.0) formats and are not anamorphic (anamorphic does NOT mean widescreen, it means "stretched to widescreen" basically).
In any case, drag a clip to the New Item button for best results until you get more educated and confident about the different formats you may be working with.
If you copied and pasted the contents of the SD sequence into an HD sequence, all filters and effects you had applied before should remain intact and not need reworking, except possible for titles and things involving scaling (since the size has changed).
As for exporting, you typically will NOT want an anamorphic export, except for widescreen DVD. You will not see anamorphic mentioned though, just choose "MPEG-2 DVD" and an appropriate widescreen preset and Adobe knows what to do from there. For web/computer viewing, best to avoid anamorphic footage, since many players assume 1.0 PAR and do not adjust the image for non-square pixels. So if working with 1440x1080 footage, and exporting to web or YouTube for instance, export as 1920x1080 (1.0) or 1280x720 (720p) so the viewer sees the proper 16:9 output, or the image may be squished otherwise!

Using footage from DVD disc shot with sony handycam

I'm trying to import some footage that was shot with a sony handycam. The camera records directly onto a mini DVD disc. I put the disc in and copied the files onto my desktop. When I import the files into FCP, it recognizes the .vob files, but not the other ones.....so, all I have in FCP is the video, but no audio. Any ideas on how to get the audio into FCP? Trying to avoid playing the mini DVD disc on a player and recording the audio, then importing that and then trying to sync....but will resort to that if necessary.

Get MPEG Streamclip (its free) from www.versiontracker.com. Use this to convert the files from your handycam to QuickTime videos using the DV codec.
Be aware that there will be a loss in quality as you convert your MPEG-2 videos to an editable format. Its unavoidable, and the reason professionals do not use direct to DVD cameras.

I'm working with MXF XAVCi footage shot in S-Log on a Sony FS7

I'm working with MXF XAVCi footage shot in S-Log on a Sony FS7 - Can anyone tell what the optimum sequence settings are for premiere pro CC. I'm editing then doing a round trip into DaVinci. Currently settings are AVC - Intra 100 1080p.

Frankly, your best bet would probably be to recapture from the source into FCP. Alternatively you could export the files from the Avid directly as Quicktime Movie files instead of taking the raw MXF's.

Ghosting Problem in HD project (shot with Sony HDW-F900)

Hi, I'm having a problem with 'ghosting,' at least I think that's the word for it. Essentially when there is motion in the frame, I see the previous frame sort of 'on top of it,' resulting in 'motion trails.' Can anyone suggest how to fix this?

when you capture hdcam shot at 23.98 you need to come in HDSDI and the deck set to 23.98. If you have the deck set to 23.98PD you'll be getting 29.97 tc down the 422 control not 23.98. If you use the PD setting and the dvcproHD 1080i60 you get footage with pulldown, the cadence being set by the 24 frame, 30 frame, options in the menus of the deck. these should be set so evry second on the second the time code matches. Sony actually uses 23.98 timecode in 1080Psf. Your rental house should be able to provide a workflow for you. My guess is the ghosting is not ghosting but interfield motion, now that you are not in a progressive format.

How to fix underscan problem with footage

I am trying to help a friend fix a problem with some footage he shot. A client was standing in front of a painted matte. The footage was shot,(and cannot be re-shot) and once back in the studio he found that a the edge of the matte that is not painted is showing up beyond the TV safe area. It can be seen on a computer screen and if shown thru a projector. The viewfinder of his camcorder did not show this problem.
So how can we fix it? It is a narrow band of white on the left side of the screen. The problem is that part of some leaves cross over it and out of frame. We have tried just simply scaling it up to get beyond the white edge but the picture quality begins to degrade. We have to fix this using FCP since that is all that is available to us. The clip is fairly long so we probably won't have the time to fix it in Photoshop.
Any help is greatly appreciated.
He is using FCP4.5 on a dual processor G5.

The cropping would leave a black bar. Something I was thinking about doing has cropping involved. I thought about duplicating the clip and stacking it over the original clip. Then crop it as suggested and then scaling the clip underneath and apply a Gausian blur. This would eliminate the white edge. Problem is, I have a hard line where the cropping took place. If there was some way to just feather the left edge of the crop.
My friend thinks some type of masking needs to take place where we could just re-color the white bar but as of yet we haven't discovered how to go about it.
