Flash mp3 and not wav?

I created a sound variable and am trying to play a wav in the
same directory as the flash file, it works fine with mp3's, but
whenever I try to play a wav from flash it does not work...does
flash not support playing wavs? Sorry...I'm new to this.
here is my source.
sound1=new Sound(this);
sound1.loadSound("myfile.wav",false);
sound1.start(0,0);
Thanks

you can't load external wav files.

  • How to slow down an mp3 and not alter pitch

    I'm wondering if anyone knows a simple way to do (what I consider to be) a kareoke trick using Logic Pro 8. I just want to import a compressed file m4a or mp3 from itunes and slow it down without altering the pitch so I can practice along with it.
    After trying the "adjust region length to match locator positions" my computer first: couldn't stretch a compressed file, and second: crashed after beginning to "process and convert".
    All this seems so very complicated for such a simple task, I'm not overly concerned with quality, it can be a little bit distorted.
    I'm sure there's a simpler way to do this! I just don't know it yet.
    Can anyone help me out?
    Thanks You!

    You can't destructively edit compressed formats in Logic so convert your mp3 to aiff/wav beforehand.
    Then either do your adjustments in the sample editor->factory->time&pitch mashine or by using the "adjust region length to match locator positions".
    You can also timestretch graphically in the Arrange by pressing option and dragging the lower right of your region to the right.

  • Flash, MP3 and Webcast on Mobile Devices

    Hello there,
    Please excuse my newbie-ness here. While I am completely
    green to the Mobile Development, I have been designing websites for
    many years.
    The company I work for right now has a long history in Audio
    Broadcasting, and currently webcast daily agricultural audio
    content from our website. We are also developing various Flash basd
    programs that let us deliver audio in more attractive ways, while
    at the same time, keeping file sizes to a minimum, as a large
    portion of our clientelle is rural where no broadband exists yet.
    Here is where I need help. Our newest project (and our first
    on mobile) is quite complex (at least with my lack knowledge in
    Mobile technologies)
    We want to deliver audio messages (news stories), about 2 to
    3 minutes in length, to end users Cellphones, daily. 1 message per
    day. These audio messages would be housed or contained within a
    Flash movie (as at this point, I think it is the best delivery
    method for our platform). We would be sending these messages to
    people that have willingly given us their Cellphone information.
    Another major important need for this to work, is that we
    want the content to be like that of a PodCast/Webcast, and driven
    by RSS. Is this possible?
    I'm sure there are a million more questions I need to ask,
    however if any of you could start me off on the right foot, at
    least I can provide the answers to my superiors, whether or not
    this project is doable.
    Thanks so much..
    Eric

    Hi Eric,
    OK, big project and big response, so I'll shorten it to the
    essentials how I see it.
    1. Memory is going to be a big problem, If you wrap the audio
    in a swf file, then the whole swf will be running on the device,
    this will consume a lot of memory and probably crash. You have on
    average 2Mb of memory to play with in Flash Lite (FL) on a device.
    2 to 3 mins of audio at a resonable quality will be about 2Mb.
    2. I feel you need to stream audio, but Im not sure if this
    is possble in Flash Lite 2.x. It is certainly not possible in FL
    1.1. Anyone?
    3. You cannot parse RSS natively in FL 1.1, you will need to
    run it through a script to turn it into name>value pairs. You
    can parse it in FL 2.x.
    4. Obvioulsy all your users will need FL installed on their
    device.
    Hope that helps.

  • Why is the Packager for iPhone guide for Flash CS5 and not Flash Builder?

    Following this tutorial, I gave compiling an iPhone project via the command line a shot and found it very difficult. The commands are not clearly explained and have character errors (“ ” instead of " ", \ instead of /, etc.).
    I've also downloaded the pdf that comes with the Packager for iPhone and tried to follow along, but the explanations are for developing in the Flash CS5 IDE...why is that? It seems that Flash Builder would be the logical development environment for developers and a dev guide...
    Can anyone explain or perhaps direct me to an easier, more official tutorial on developing iPhone applications in Flash Builder? Thank you!

    Because Flash CS5 users need more help than us Flex devs. jk
    The "Packager for iPhone" was depreciated some time ago, so I imagine you are reading some old docs. Now (since FB 4.5), it's just another target platform in a Flex Mobile Project. Before then it was part of the ADT compiler which could be run in ANT (or a really long command line string), and before then it was actually the "packager for iPhone".
    If you do not have FB 4.5 then maybe you can provide more info on the challenges your facing, and someone may be able to point you in the right direction.

  • How do I save an MP3 and not play it?

    hello
    I pay for a suscription Podcast service.  When I use my PB to visit the site I login and navigate to the podcast section. If I click on a podcast it only want to play the mp3.  even if I press and hold on the link I get no option to SAVE the mp3, only wants to play it.  and even I chose to play/stream the mp3 I still have no option to save the file.
    the kicker is that I am able to do this on my TORCH. save an MP3 without playing it.
    is there a setting or command I am missing.?  because I would prefer to save the mp3's and then play at my leisure  rather than being forced to only stream the file.
    thank you

    i have some more info I can add to my problem
    if I login to the podcast website from a windows7 pc using firefox, and I try to download the MP3 I can make two choices. I can click on the link to listen to the podcast in the broswer. Or I can right click and select "save link as" to save the MP3 locally.
    the link is.   http://www.jimrome.com/member/stream-link?stream=2011-04-22&site=jimrome&type=download_show&clips=1
    If i chose to "save link as" it will direct me to the .MP3 file to download.  And if I do this on my BB Torch it will do a similar thing. It will ask me if I want to play or save the .mp3 file.
    but if I navigate to that linkk with my playbook, and I hold over the link and select "Save link as". It doesn't save the .mp3 file.  it only saves the link ...."http://www.jimrome.com/member/stream-link?stream=2011-04-22&site=jimrome&type=download_show&clips=1"
    so on my playbook, my only option is to stream the file, because even if I stream the mp3 it will play in a new tab. but I will still have no option to save it.
    hope that helps..  please let me know if there is a work around.
    thanks

  • Flash player still not working after following all discussion advice

    Requested information:  I have Internet explorer 9/ using 32 bit on 64 bit computer/windows 7/flash player 10.2 version
    I contracted what my husband called a "rider" virus when I opened a knitting pattern of all things and if I understood it correctly was one of the anti-malware viruses talked about.  My husband was able to remove the virus but like others have said here, my flash player will not work.  My computer is only 3 months old!
    Here is what we have done:
    1: First removed all flash player and shock wave
    2: I have run a full scan with my Mcafee program, then ran a full scan and quick scan too with my malwarebytes program.  Everything in both is now clean.  I then rebooted (I also even tried doing all of this in safe mode too with nothing changing)
    3: came online and read a bazillion threads about others problems and tried every suggestion pretty much including those below
    4:  husband checked the kill bit (d27 thingy) and it was not there
    5: reinstalled flash player and shock after running the scans and though they show up in my programs when I looked at the add ons as suggest to others the
    neither shockwave or Flash Object was there
    6: uninstalled everything again
    So now I am back to where I started with nothing installed because I still have an issue and we don't know what it is.  I truly appreciate your help in any way as it is frustrating that none of the other suggestions have helped.
    this may not as my grandma used to say have anything to do with the price of rice in china, but we do keep getting a short freeze up on the computer followed by a message that the display driver stopped responding and recovered then it works again, but it does happen fairly frequently and this has been since the virus.  I am showing everything is clean though with regards to virus scans and malware spyware scans.

    Just when I thought I would finally find the answer you sent a message offline, which didn't help me a bit.
    I have the same problem.  My wife got a virus and I was able to uninstall it by poking around.  After killing the virus IE would not run.  I found some messages on the internet which enabled me to solve that problem by making some registry changes.  However, I still have not been able to get IE to run flash.  I do have it running in FireFox.
    What was the step that you sent in private email that enabled him top solve the problem?
    Thanks

  • What's the difference between MP3 and M4a?

    The "convert selecton to MP3" in itunes is giving me files labeled "M4a" What's the difference between the two?

    A .m4a file is in AAC format. Sure your menu option says "Convert to MP3" and not "Convert to AAC"? Check iTunes Prefs to see what import filter is applied.

  • Adding Android Licensing with Flash Professional and AIR 3.0

    I have done the overlay AIR 3 stuff, but I still can't find an answer on how to get Android Licensing Service implemented after days and days of searching. It is pretty poitless to package a paid Android app without the licensing check as it would just easily hand the app to unauthorized users to install it without a fight.
    Do not post this absurd unhelpful link: http://www.adobe.com/devnet/air/articles/android-licensing-native-extensions.html
    It is only instructions for the bizzare FlashBuilder tool, and is quite long winded and excessive as well
    Android Licesnsing Service is listed as a feature of AIR 3. How do I enable or install it onto my app in Flash Professional.

    Hi, thanks for responding, Joe.
    Yes, I do plan on customizing the implementation the best I can.
    I am fine with using command line to build my project if needed, I just need it to work and need to know how to do it. I am very eager to get this finished up and published. It is very frustrating to have an app all ready for android after months upon months of working on it nonstop, but then get stuck on this.
    I have been trying to get this all figured out the past several days. It is very confusing and there is barely any info out there on it.
    I am using Eclipse to try and build this Java extension, as I have Flash Pro and not builder.
    I have gotten the Jar created from the "Creating the Java project" step.
    Now on the "Developing the ActionScript library."
    It says to make a project and copy files form frameworks\projects\air\Licensing\Android\AndroidLicensingJavaProject\src\ which are java files, and do some stuff, then create a SWC from them.
    I sort of suspect it was a typo in the article and is supposed to be frameworks\projects\air\Licensing\Android\AndroidLicensingLib\src\
    seeing as it shows .as files in the project not .java.
    Also it refers to what I think it means to be ExtensionContext as "ExternalContext," which does not appear to exist in flash.external on step 4 of 'Developing the ActionScript Library.'
    So the article has some flaws, and should probably be rewritten and include instructions for the proper flash editor, Flash Professional.
    Anyhow, I came up with a hack to build I SWC from Flash Pro which I hope will work.
    I am trying to hack together a solution to get this all to work. It is very unpleasant having to guess and figure allot of things out myself. Is there going to be a proper solution in the future? If so, roughly how long will it be? I really need to get my projects published now or very soon, not a year or 6 months from now.
    I tried to complie my project to build the SWF I need for packaging with the native extension and I get this error:
    "Unexpected or unknown element or attribute in the application descriptor file.
    /path-to-my-app/myappname-app.xml(49): error 103: application.android.extensions is an unexpected element/attribute"
    I am also getting "Missing implementation for platform: Android-ARM" when I try to build the Native Extension. The person who has commented on the article ( http://www.adobe.com/devnet/air/articles/android-licensing-native-extensions.html , comments at the bottom of the page) has this very same problem.

  • Data Communication between flash 8 and php (facebook)

    I do have knowledge on php and flash 8. But it is my first
    time in trying to analyse the facebook architecture and have to
    admit I am a bit confused. Ok I have figured out the communication
    part between php and facebook but I failed to understand the
    communication when flash 8 comes into the picture.
    1) Client logins in to facebook (Client PC -> Facebook
    Server)
    2) Client click on my game application and waits (Client
    Request->Facebook Server->My Server)
    3) My php script checks for client audentication using
    facebook params and load flash 8 application to client PC via
    facebook iframe OR FBML (My Server (.php) -> My Server (.swf)
    -> Facebook (Iframe or FBML) ->Client PC)
    4) Client starts to play.
    ----------> Ok step 1 to 4, I know how to do it. But it is
    this following that I am confused.
    5) Client make some changes in the flash 8 application (For
    example: He is preparing for an invasion and have included total
    soldiers needed and generals needed and click 'invade') and click
    the button to save the datas to my server. The problem here is how
    to do this while ensuring $fb_params is consistent?
    (a) Can I just use sendandload via POST and my php side will
    received the POST data as usual($_POST['soldiersneeded'])? Or do I
    miss out anything?
    (b) Can I use amfphp as usual so as to prevent the
    application from refreshing itself everytime it loads in the new
    data?
    Hope there is a facebook expert who could explain to me in
    regards to this problem. Please do take note that I am using flash
    8 and not CS3 or CS4. Thanks in advance and have a nice day
    everyone! ^_^

  • Mp3 and TimerEvent not in sync

    Last night a buddy of mine who I make music with was asking
    me if I could get objects to move in flash in sync with the sounds.
    I said I might be able to, and figured it would be good to load an
    mp3, a simple hihat called hihat.mp3. My idea is to set up a
    TimerEvent that calls a function 'hitHiHat()' every 250
    milliseconds. Problem is, when I run the program, the sound of the
    mp3 is not in sync. I thought this might be a bad idea because the
    TImerEvent might not be very accurate, but I remember reading
    somewhere that the TimerEvent is VERY accurate. If it's not, I
    definitely can't do what I'm trying to do, because the idea is to
    have multiple instruments playing. If it's not the TimerEvent, I
    thought that maybe it's the _sound.play() function that is lagging,
    or that maybe there is a conflict with the mp3 already playing when
    the hitHiHat function is called. Please let me know if I could do
    something to make this program have a bit more rhythm, or if it's
    just a bad idea altogether (code below). THANKS!

    stage.scaleMode = StageScaleMode.NO_SCALE;
    stage.align = StageAlign.TOP_LEFT;
    circle = new Sprite();
    circle.graphics.beginFill(0xFFFFFF);
    circle.graphics.drawCircle(100,400,40);
    circle.graphics.endFill();
    addChild(circle);
    _sound = new Sound();
    urlReq = new URLRequest("sounds/hihat.mp3");
    _sound.load(urlReq);
    _sound.addEventListener(Event.COMPLETE, startHiHat);
    tempo = new Timer(250);
    tempo.addEventListener(TimerEvent.TIMER, hitHiHat);
    tf.width = 400;
    tf.height = 200;
    tf.border = true;
    tf.multiline = true;
    tf.x = 10;
    tf.y = 20;
    //tf.x = stage.stageWidth / 20;
    //tf.y = stage.stageHeight / 20;
    tf.text = "blah blah blah blah blah blah blah blah blah blah
    blah blah blah blah";
    //addChild(tf);
    private function startHiHat(event:Event):void {
    tempo.start();
    private function hitHiHat(event:TimerEvent):void {
    if (needsToPlay == true) {
    soundChan = _sound.play();
    needsToPlay = false;
    soundChan.stop();
    soundChan = _sound.play();

    the timer function (along with setInterval and every other
    loop in flash) is inaccurate and very much dependent on local
    system speed. in short, there is no loop in flash suitable for
    synch'g sound and anything else. the ear it too sensitive to even
    small mis-timings.
    you can however, create a self-correcting loop based on
    getTimer() (which is as accurate as the local system clock) which
    can maintain a small error tolerance. even this, however, may not
    be satisfactory for your purposes and you may need to synch sound
    and animation in a flv.

  • Setting Quicktime as default mp3 and wav player

    Hello
    I know this is a pretty basic question, but how do I set Quicktime to be my defualt player for mp3 and wav files?
    If i select a wav file and then tick the "Always Open With" box it only does it for that particular file and I can't find any related options within the program.
    any help will be very much appreciated.
    thank you

    Highlight a mp3 with the mouse, then get info from the finder. (Right click or click+control key.) A window will open up with the mp3 info. Scroll down to where it says, "Open with:." Click on the tab to pick an application to open the mp3 with. If Quicktime doesn't show up in the drop down menu, pick OTHER at the bottom of the menu. The Application window (folder) should open up, if not, navigate to you Application folder. Scroll down to Quicktime and pick for the application to open the mp3 with. Done. Do the same with a wav file.
    Best bet is to click on CHANGE ALL in the info window. This will change all mp3s and wavs file to open with Quicktime.
