Flash not detected...

Question

Bit of a weird one -
When adding .fla files to a standard html doc, Dreamweaver constructs <object> and <embed> markup which ends with these lines for those who do not support Flash content:

By turning off the browser flash plugins, sure enough, the .fla is absent and these tags are present instead, or at least, the <img> and its link are present. The <h4> does not show at all.
If I type in additional copy within the <p> tag (such as "hello" x 20), or in deed, in any new <p> tags I create, this also does not display. However, inspecting the browsers (both IE8 and FF) with developer tools or viewing the page source, I can see all of the text and <h4> markup in there. Why does it not show?
The only way I've found to get the text-based markup to display is to assign classes to the tags which already exist in my CSS file. Why is it that unclassed text in this instance won't display, but simply typing in no tags with no styles applied will render with default styles in a blank html doc?

Just to clarify - I have resolved this issue using CSS so there is no outstanding problem, I'm simply curious as to its cause. An example below:
