Flash objects not displaying in Firefox (but works fine in Chrome and IE)
Well, I'm trying to embed a Shockwave Flash object into a website I'm building. It displays in Chrome and IE, but it doesn't show up at all in Firefox. It's just white space. Ive tried it on two machines, so it's presumably the code. Both the machines have Adobe Flash enabled... I'm not sure what the problem is. I've not worked with embedding Flash objects in HTML before, so, it's probably something really obvious. I just used the insert command on dreamweaver and it wrote the code that I'm using. If anyone can help me, it would be much appreciated. Here's my code:
<pre><nowiki><object classid="clsid:D27CDB6E-AE6D-11cf-96B8-444553540000" width="99%" height="600" id="FlashID">

For example, does either console show that Firefox is requesting the SWF file? Does either show an error in content type or any kind of security message?

Problem Viewing Flash Object in IE
I have been managing my wife's website. She had someone design it, then the guy stopped responding, so I took over. Im somewhat of a beginner, so I cant figure this one out, and have looked online for resolutions. There are two pages on her site that have flash objects. When you go to either page in IE, you get an error : Content on this page requires a newer version of Adobe Flash Player. It then gives you a link to update, which lets you update, but then doesnt resolve the problem. Like I said, someone else did the basic design, so im not sure where they went wrong.
The two pages are:
http://www.karabakerphotography.com/index.html
and
http://www.karabakerphotography.com/gallery.html
The pages work fine in Firefox and Safari. So its only IE that doesnt work. I know differet browsers can use different versions of Flash. I have been using Dreamweaver CS4.
I have not spoken with anyone who can view it using IE. Everyone that uses IE has mentioned the problem to me.
Any help would be greatly appreciated. If you need any further info from me, just let me know.Do the flash communicate with files which is outside of the sitedomain?

Prevent the browser to read cached Flash object
I have a slideshow Flash object which pics filename are
supplied by an .XML
file created dinamically every time the page loads.
Unfortunately the .SWF is always being read from cache even
though the .XML is changed
correctly. The Flash movie always shows the pictures loaded
at start of the application.
I am able to refresh the Flash movie if:
- I restart the application;
- I set the browser setting to check for newer version of
stored pages to "every time";
- after 5/10 minutes have elapsed from the last reloading
(couldn't find a real pattern here);
To prevent caching I have tried the following:
- Added a random number at the and of the URL that calls the
page (...&r=#rundomNumber()#)
- Added <META HTTP-EQUIV="Expires" CONTENT="Mon, 04 Dec
1999 21:29:02 GMT">
- Added <META HTTP-EQUIV="Pragma" CONTENT="no-cache">
- Added <META HTTP-EQUIV="Cache-Control"
CONTENT="no-cache">
in various combinations.
- Used <cfheader name="Expires"
value="#GetHttpTimeString(Now())#">
- Modified the param name="movie" to
<param name="movie"
value="Gallery.swf?id=#randomNumber()#" />
or to
<param name="movie"
value="Gallery.swf?id=#randomNumber()#&xmlPath=gallery.xml&id=#randomNumber()#"
/>
also
Opening the Gallery.fla with Flash 2004 in the Component
Inspector, parameter xml Path = gallery.xml changed to
"gallery.xml?id=1"
or
"gallery.xm?Math.round(Math.random() * 99999
all this to prevent the browser to read from cache and
download a fresh copy from the server, but to no avail.
Is there something else to be tried?
Thank you for helping.
ContiWClick in your page where you want the SWF to go, then select
Insert > Media > Flash from the menu (or maybe Insert >
Flash ... DWMX goes back a way).

Adding a flash object behind another object
Hi, using dreamweaver 8, and I want to add a flash object
behind an image.
Basically I have downloaded an image of a retro TV, edited in
Photoshop and taken the screen out. The TV is sitting on a
transparent canvas, so that the screen would be transparent as
well.
I have a flash slideshow that I have created with
simpleviewer. If I insert this to the web page it runs ok, but I
would like to insert it behind the TV image, so it appears it's
coming out of the TV.
Is there any way that I can do this?
Thanks in advance.Yes, but it will require a bit more work.
Consider a 3 column by 3 row table. Make the flash element
appear in the
middle cell of the table, and have the TV image appropriately
sliced so that
the required images appear in cells 1-1, 1-2, 1-3, 2-1, 2-3,
3-1, 3-2, and
3-3, in effect surrounding the Flash element.
You can do the same thing with background images as well.
I used this on this page -
http://www.neapco.com/n_why-neapco.php
for that main content Flash element.

Hello,
Please excuse me if this message has appeared twice but my
Internet link was broken and I do not know if the previous message
got sent.
I am using Dreamweaver 4.0.
I was horrified to learn from a visitor to my website that
Flash object were not showing, and would not show, unless they
allowed the download of 'Flash' software. For the time being I do
not want visitors to my site to have to allow the download of Flash
software before they can view my site.
I am only using Flash objects as Flash buttons simply to
navigate between pages, that is, change from one page to another.
Please can anyone tell me how I can alter my website design to
allow visitors to navigate from page to page without using Flash
objects.
Thank you for any help that you can give me.

This has always been the case.

Then you must not use Flash on your site for anything other
than cosmetic
'dressing'.

This is a major mistake. In addition to eliminating those who
do not have
the Flash plugin, you have also eliminated the search engine
spiders, which
will not be able to read your page-to-page links.

Remove the Flash and rebuild your navigation using ordinary
HTML devices.
Want to post a link to your page, so we can make a more
specific
recommendation?

Hi,
I've imported a flash file into dreamweaver, got it working
great no problems. The Problem i am having though is that the flash
object (550 x 550px) doesnt position flush to the edge of the
browser window, theres a white border to the left and at the top.
How i've got this site is that the main page loads into a 550 x 550
window containing the flash file but i want it so only the flash
document is visible in this window. Does anyone know how to import
a file and have it positioned to the edge. I've tried all the
positioning properties.
Thanks, much appreciated - OliHave you tried zeroing the margins, padding and borders on
the body with
CSS?

I've got dotted lines round my flash objects
Hello - if anyone could help me with something, I'd be
eternally grateful!
I'm building a website with Dreamweaver, and it's got several
flash elements, like buttons and pictures.
When I preview the site on my BT browser, everything looks
great - but when I preview it on my IE browser, it's a mess.
When I hover over a flash element, a box of dotted lines
appears around the flash object, and the words "click to activate
and use the control" appear.
When I then click on the object, the box disappears, and I
can then use the buttons etc.
My dreamweaver site is made with tables. The dotted-line box
surrounds the CELL that the flash object is in, rather than the
flash object itself.
I've no idea what this is, or why it only happens in my IE
browser and not my BT one. If anyone can give me some pointers, I'd
be very grateful. At this rate, I'm going to be at my PC all
Christmas Day!

If you're running Dreamweaver 8.0.2, the fix is already built

interface.
If not, try
http://blog.deconcept.com/swfobject/
Using the <embed> tag in the HTML code to "embed" the
Flash file in the page
(which used to be the normal way of doing it) triggers the
new IE behaviour.
The 8.0.2 updater calls the same Flash file via Javascript
instead so the
new IE behaviour is not triggered..
Once the updater has been applied you upload the changed HTML
page PLUS the
new Scripts folder, containing a Javascript file, which has
just been
created by the 8.0.2 updater.
Note: DW 8.0.2 does not tell you anything about the existence
of, and need
to upload, the new Scripts folder that it has just created.
You're just
expected to know (or find out). Lazy programming by Adobe.

Border around flash objects in Firefox
Hello,
I have a swf object inside a table, everything is perfect when I look at my work in IE but when I use Firefox, a white border apears around the swf object, this is annoying because this border breaks my graphos design for the webpage...
I've already tried using padding, margin, border, outline set to 0 -or none- for both, the swf object and the table and the border doesn't go away... Also, I've tried changing the swf params for scale and wmode value and nothing happens :s
This is the code (yes, is the one that dreamweaver writes when you add any flash object):
<td height="295" class="noBorders"><object classid="clsid:D27CDB6E-AE6D-11cf-96B8-444553540000" width="780" height="295" class="noBorders" id="FlashID" title="X">
<param name="movie" value="flash/fotos.swf" />
<param name="quality" value="high" />
<param name="wmode" value="opaque" />
<param name="swfversion" value="6.0.65.0" />
<!-- This param tag prompts users with Flash Player 6.0 r65 and higher to download the latest version of Flash Player. Delete it if you don’t want users to see the prompt. -->
<param name="expressinstall" value="Scripts/expressInstall.swf" />
<param name="BGCOLOR" value="#00FF00" />
<param name="SCALE" value="exactfit" />
<!-- Next object tag is for non-IE browsers. So hide it from IE using IECC. -->
<!--[if !IE]>-->
<object data="flash/fotos.swf" type="application/x-shockwave-flash" width="780" height="295">
<!--<![endif]-->
<param name="quality" value="high" />
<param name="wmode" value="opaque" />
<param name="swfversion" value="6.0.65.0" />
<param name="expressinstall" value="Scripts/expressInstall.swf" />
<param name="BGCOLOR" value="#00FF00" />
<param name="SCALE" value="exactfit" />
<!-- The browser displays the following alternative content for users with Flash Player 6.0 and older. -->
<div>
<h4>Content on this page requires a newer version of Adobe Flash Player.</h4>
<p><a href="http://www.adobe.com/go/getflashplayer"><img src="http://www.adobe.com/images/shared/download_buttons/get_flash_player.gif" alt="Get Adobe Flash player" width="112" height="33" /></a></p>
</div>
<!--[if !IE]>-->
</object>
<!--<![endif]-->
</object></td>
If I erase the dreamweaver<object data...> code (the orange one) the problem solves but the swf object doesn't appears in IE...Obviously I don't want to erase any of this dreamweaver code because it's there for something
I want my page to be looking good in any browser, what can I do? please help!!!!!
ThanksThanks...
I don't think is the swf file because the issue only happens in Firefox :s
Anyway, I think I've fixed the problem, instead of using a table for the two swf (the photo and the menu), i used 2 <div>s... I'm not sure is the correct way of designing it (mixin tables and divs) but its working now
Thanks again -

I'm using a flash object in my html and I would like to avoid
the annoying click every time a flash object should be activated. I
know there is a way by using a 3th party program or script
(swobject or something like that) but isn't there a Adobe
Dreamwweaver/Flash way of doing that?
/RudyVery simple javascript will override the IE7 settings, and
allow the flash to play each time, without user intevention.
There's not really another way as far as I know, because this
depends on the user's browser. Anything that would be done from
Dreamweaver would be server-side, whereas the Java runs client
side:
- Underneath the last <object> in your HTML page,
insert the following line of Javascript:
<script type="text/javascript"
src="ieupdate.js"></script>
- create a file called ieupdate.js, with the following
content:
objects = document.getElementsByTagName("object");
for (var i = 0; i < objects.length; i++)
objects
.outerHTML = objects.outerHTML;
- Upload the file to your web root.
Fixed!
Hmmm, my first post on this forum - It's a bit bland. Can't
even add code tags around code. Can't see emoticons without
previewing the topic. Gosh! -
Newbie needs help with passing variables or creating flash object based on parameters
Hello Community,
I'm an amateur developer of Ms Access databases. In one of my applications I want to visualize the options available when reaching a certain score.
What I'd like to get from this trial period, is a flash animation of a dartboard. Depending on an array of variables that provides the fill color (or reference thereof) the layers of the flash object will be dynamicly created, altered, or switched. The dartboard itself remains "static". I'm hoping to use 9 colors.
I can manipulate the array any way needed. I can provide XML coding to pass the array variables. I'm just too new and untrained to incorporate this in a Edge animation or Dreamweaver.
There is no need for interaction, once the object is created (ie no user feedback).
Can someone point me in the right direction?
thanks in advance,
Jay from StockholmHi,
I see you're using System.Data.OracleClient (which has been deprecated by MS) rather than Oracle.DataAccess.Client, but this works for me with Oracle's ODP, maybe it will help.

firefox shrinks flash objects if the code for the and are written to the page via document.write() in javascript during page load. The object is rendered correctly if the same and are tags in the html document.
