Inserting flash object
Hello All,
i am trying to add a flash object as i have done 1000 of
times before.
Opening the html on local computer works fine but as soon as
i upload
this to my webserver it doesnt work any more?
i see that DW CS3 addes a Jave Script while adding flash,
this is new
to me! could this be the cause of the problem?
I am running XP Pro, IE 6.0, and FireFox 2.0.
any help is appricated.
John has the right explanation. Here's some more info....
It's IE-only behaviour as a result of changes Microsoft made
several
years ago to their browser, regarding how Active Content
(Flash, Quicktime
etc)
is handled, after losing a high profile court case.

If you're running Dreamweaver 8.0.2/CS3, the fix is already
built into DW's
interface.

Insert Flash with Dreamweaver CS3 Question
So I have been building websites for awhile and have always relied on the built in insert flash object that came with dreamweaver as I have never had issues with it.
However as I finished a site recently the client had a friend look at it and brought up the red flag that the site was not w3 compliant. So I go and look at the little tool they have and the only error that comes up is related to the insertion of flash on the page.
I googled it a bit and found a number of people saying that the insert flash through dreamweaver will no show up as compliant. A couple solutions to fix the problem.
But before I go down that road, I want to ask. ...Does it really matter here? Seems like Dreamweaver insertion would be compliant? I mean come on the link that the w3 give to fix the problem is a link from a fix created in 2002.
I have never heard of anyone saying no the flash does not show up so right off I am not terribly concerned but it would be nice to know..
Also if it is important and suggestions as to a nice fix to the issue would be great.
Thanks for your time,
ChrisRight you are!
I tend to spot check pages and haven't done a W3C check on a flash embed in my websites (apparently). Just did one pursuant to your question. The page is 100% compliant without the Flash video. has 51 errors, 35 warnings with it. Lots of those errors are Adobe-generated Javascript that handles the flash video insert, skins it and so on.
Here is where Adobe may not be compliant with the W3C. -
Inserting a APOS (GIS) Flash object in XI Rel 2 Crystal/Business Objects
I am trying to INSERT a Flash object in a report design however the INSERT pull down menu does not offer a Flash Object and subsequent dialog box. I am trying to insert APOS SAP Live Viewer into a report design. Any tricks I'm missing?
Hi,
Support for Flash files has been added in Crystal Reports 2008.
The version you're using does not support Flash files unfortunately.

Help w/ Flash Object inserted into DW page
Hi,
I'm using DW MX2004 on a Pwrbk G4. I created a Flash object
(a page-flipping gallery) in Flash, and while it previews fine in
Flash MX'04 (size of the .swf in pixels, I WANT it to be 1050 W
& 713 H so the page is big enough to view well on a browser and
the pages can flip correctly), once the object is inserted into DW,
it isn't showing up as the same size. The default size in DW is 550
x 440 I think, and when I try to change the dimensions--even to the
exact size it was in Flash--the images once previewed are always
distorted or the preview shows only part of the image and the pages
aren't flipping (this, I believe b'cos the entire .swf movie isn't
displayed so the corners can be dragged/clicked). I know I'm doing
something wrong or missing some step, can someone help?
ThanksI am not sure what exactly you are experiencing but it sound
like something somewhat similar to what I recently went through. I
tried to embed a swf in my HTML page using DW and there was a
border that would appear that was not there in FLash. I eventually
found a setting in Flash Publish settings that said " no border "
...this was under the "HTML" settings in the Publish settings
dialog box. I published my html page and then cut most of the code
from that page and manually embed it in my Dw html page. Kind of
pain but it worked.
Try publishing the HTML page from flash and then viewing that
page in DW and see if your swf is the right size. It may be that
you can't use DW to Embed your SWF.

Flash objects not displaying in Firefox (but works fine in Chrome and IE)
Well, I'm trying to embed a Shockwave Flash object into a website I'm building. It displays in Chrome and IE, but it doesn't show up at all in Firefox. It's just white space. Ive tried it on two machines, so it's presumably the code. Both the machines have Adobe Flash enabled... I'm not sure what the problem is. I've not worked with embedding Flash objects in HTML before, so, it's probably something really obvious. I just used the insert command on dreamweaver and it wrote the code that I'm using. If anyone can help me, it would be much appreciated. Here's my code:
<pre><nowiki><object classid="clsid:D27CDB6E-AE6D-11cf-96B8-444553540000" width="99%" height="600" id="FlashID">

<param name="quality" value="high" />
<param name="wmode" value="opaque" />
<param name="swfversion" value="10.1.0.0" />
<!-- This param tag prompts users with Flash Player 6.0 r65 and higher to download the latest version of Flash Player. Delete it if you don’t want users to see the prompt. -->
<param name="expressinstall" value="../Scripts/expressInstall.swf" />

<!--<![endif]--></nowiki></pre>If you can't post an address for a page demonstrating the problem, could you check the Web Console (Ctrl+Shift+k) and Browser Console (Ctrl+Shift+j) for any messages related to the Flash media? For example, does either console show that Firefox is requesting the SWF file? Does either show an error in content type or any kind of security message?

Inserting Flash in DW 8.0.2
I am trying to insert a flash file into my webpage using the
update in DW8 that is supposed to automatically convert the tags to
work in IE so the user doesn't have to activate the Flash content
first. When I go to insert the flash onto my html page DW asks me
if I want to convert the tags to browser safe scripts. I click yes.
I preview it and the Flash content shows up. I upload the page to
my server and the only thing that shows up on the page are the 2
html links outside the flash object ....No Flash. Any suggestions
on what I am doing wrong?You probably didn't upload the scripts folder and file that
are necessary to
run the thing. Upload again and click yes to dependent files.
Then verify
that you have a scripts folder with a file in it on the
remote server.

In PowerPoint I Have Shockwave ActiveX Control - How do I Get Shockwave Flash Object?
I'm running the latest versions of Windows 7 and PowerPoint via Parallels on my Mac. I want to insert a Flash movie into a PowerPoint slide. The instructions I've found tell me to look in Developer section->More Controls, find Shockwave Flash Object, use it to insert a Flash Object, and then to edit the Movie property of that object. But, I do not see Shockwave Flash Object. Instead I see Shockwave ActiveX Control. The properties of Shockwave ActiveX Control do not include a Movie property.
I have gone to "http://get.adobe.com/shockwave/" and clicked the option to install the Shockwave Player, but the site says the Shockwave Player is already installed.
How can I get the Shockwave Flash Object for PowerPoint into my installation?
Thanks very much in advance to all for any info.Hi Vik.. I don't use Powerpoint but I do know about Shockwave Flash Object. It is in the manage add ons and installs when Flash Player is installed. It is an ActiveX Control and if you have the latest FP installed, Flash10d.ocx should be listed on the same line. It may or may not list the version #, which would be 10.0.42.34. It must be enabled.
Beyond that info I could give you a link to a thread that involved powerpoint 2003 and 2007 if you think that would be of
any help to you.
Just post back.
Thanks

I often insert .swf files in my html pages however, lately I
have been trying to insert flash movies in the middle of a bunch of
text. I do something similar with and then, using the property
inspector's align dialog box, I either set the image to be on the
right, the left, or one of the other options. By doing that, the
image looks the way I want it to with the text wrapping around it.
I see that the same type of options appear in the property
inspector when I insert a .swf file but I don't get the desired
result as I do with images. The only way I can fake the look I want
is by putting the flash movie in it's own cell in a table and
breaking up the text above,below or next to the movie the best way
that I can but this is not reliable and I sometimes end up with too
much white space. Is there a parameter I need to set or a style to
add to the swf object? I'd appreciate any suggestions.Thank
you.This file is not on the server -
http://www.lacybayliss.com/Scripts/AC_RunActiveContent.js
but this one is -
http://www.lacybayliss.com/web/Scripts/AC_RunActiveContent.js
This means that your link is not properly made to the script
file in the
head of that page, OR that your site definition is not
correct.

Flash object not represented in Design view
When I had CS3 and I put in a flash object into my design there was a place holder or grey box that represented where teh flash would be. I no longer see it anymore and I am missing it. Then best i can do is get one of those little yellow icons that lets you know there is a script there to show up.
How do i tun on the place holder version again. (Not really a place holder but I am not sure what to call it)
Thanks,
HoustonUsing CS4 I just did a test and inserted a flash object and could see a grey box with the 'F icon' in the middle.
Have you checked View>Visual Aids> Invisible Elements is ticked?
Not sure if this is causing you not to see it - but it's the only suggestion I have :-) -
Prevent the browser to read cached Flash object
I have a slideshow Flash object which pics filename are
supplied by an .XML
file created dinamically every time the page loads.
Unfortunately the .SWF is always being read from cache even
though the .XML is changed
correctly. The Flash movie always shows the pictures loaded
at start of the application.
I am able to refresh the Flash movie if:
- I restart the application;
- I set the browser setting to check for newer version of
stored pages to "every time";
- after 5/10 minutes have elapsed from the last reloading
(couldn't find a real pattern here);
To prevent caching I have tried the following:
- Added a random number at the and of the URL that calls the
page (...&r=#rundomNumber()#)
- Added <META HTTP-EQUIV="Expires" CONTENT="Mon, 04 Dec
1999 21:29:02 GMT">
- Added <META HTTP-EQUIV="Pragma" CONTENT="no-cache">
- Added <META HTTP-EQUIV="Cache-Control"
CONTENT="no-cache">
in various combinations.
- Used <cfheader name="Expires"
value="#GetHttpTimeString(Now())#">
- Modified the param name="movie" to
<param name="movie"
value="Gallery.swf?id=#randomNumber()#" />
or to
<param name="movie"
value="Gallery.swf?id=#randomNumber()#&xmlPath=gallery.xml&id=#randomNumber()#"
/>
also
Opening the Gallery.fla with Flash 2004 in the Component
Inspector, parameter xml Path = gallery.xml changed to
"gallery.xml?id=1"
or
"gallery.xm?Math.round(Math.random() * 99999
all this to prevent the browser to read from cache and
download a fresh copy from the server, but to no avail.
Is there something else to be tried?
Thank you for helping.
ContiWClick in your page where you want the SWF to go, then select
Insert > Media > Flash from the menu (or maybe Insert >
Flash ... DWMX goes back a way).

Adding a flash object behind another object
Hi, using dreamweaver 8, and I want to add a flash object
behind an image.
Basically I have downloaded an image of a retro TV, edited in
Photoshop and taken the screen out. The TV is sitting on a
transparent canvas, so that the screen would be transparent as
well.
I have a flash slideshow that I have created with
simpleviewer. If I insert this to the web page it runs ok, but I
would like to insert it behind the TV image, so it appears it's
coming out of the TV.
Is there any way that I can do this?
Thanks in advance.Yes, but it will require a bit more work.
Consider a 3 column by 3 row table. Make the flash element
appear in the
middle cell of the table, and have the TV image appropriately
sliced so that
the required images appear in cells 1-1, 1-2, 1-3, 2-1, 2-3,
3-1, 3-2, and
3-3, in effect surrounding the Flash element.
You can do the same thing with background images as well.
I used this on this page -
http://www.neapco.com/n_why-neapco.php
for that main content Flash element.

- About the new Flash object fix in 8.0.2
Any way to tell DW8.0.2 not to automatically create a Scripts
folder and new
.js file when inserting a Flash object, but STILL have it
insert the HTML
portion?
Reason I'm asking is because I've got the .js part included
in my main .js
file on all my websites. I don't like using a different .js
for each script
I'm using. So all I really want DW to do is insert the HTML
portion
correctly when I insert a flash object -- not create a new
scripts folder or
place any unnecessary .js files in there.
Thanks.To you, perhaps.

Flash object not updating (Captivate 6)
I'm using a flash object on one of my slides. This is a help file. The file was created in Captivate, published, and then I'm putting the flash object onto a slide. When this slide is referenced, the flash file plays. It's a few static screens with forward and back buttons. The issue is that on one of the screens, the wrong text was inserted. I fixed the text, re-published, deleted the flash object from the slide, and put the new one there instead. But when I run the project, it still shows the old version, with the wrong text. I'm not sure why this is. The source file was changed and updated. I've tried restarting the computer in case it's being help in memory, but still, it keeps showing the old version with the wrong text.
I tried adding a random button to the file, publishing, and using it again. This time, the button didn't show up, but the text updated. So I deleted it and tried the original file again. Still showing incorrect text. I opened the file, added a button, saved it, deleted the button, republished, reinserted the flash file, and now it works. So maybe there have to be changes saved for the file to update? Not really sure how it worked, just glad that it did.
