Flash streaming external flv files

I have a web page which contains a flash object embeded in
it, this flash is streaming external flv files. The flash was being
displayed correctly when the website was hosted on a windows 2000
server but when the site was moved to a windows 2003 server the
flash is no longer displayed, instead of it a box with undefined
text inside it. I searched the Adobe support center and found this
Tech Note about adding the MIME Type through IIS since windows 2003
doesn't stream flv files. I followed the steps mentioned but still
am getting the undefined box
http://kb.adobe.com/selfservice/viewContent.do?externalId=tn_19439&sliceId=2
Does anyone know how to solve this issue?
Thanks in advance.

This is the problem.
When Flash Player movie files that stream external FLV files
(Flash videos) are placed on a Microsoft Windows 2003 server and
then viewed in a browser, the SWF file plays correctly, but the FLV
video does not stream. These files work correctly if tested on
other operating systems. The issue affects all FLV files played via
Windows 2003 server
And can be solved by....
1. On the Windows 2003 server, open the Internet Information
Services Manager.
2. Expand the Local Computer Server.
3. Right-click the local computer server and select
Properties.
4. Select the MIME Types tab.
5. Click New and enter the following information:
* Associated Extension box: .FLV
* MIME Type box:flv-application/octet-stream
6. Click OK.
7. Restart the World Wide Web Publishing service.

  • Load external FLV files?

    I would like my desktop AIR app (built in Flash CS3) to load
    and play external FLV files which are on the same computer/hard
    drive but are not packaged as part of the AIR app. Is there a way
    to do this with the sandbox restrictions AIR has? If so can you
    point me to a sample or documentation?
    Excuse me if this is an obvious subject but the information
    out there is incomplete and confusing.

    I'm still running into the following: As soon as I test the
    movie, I get the following in the area where the video should
    appear:
    status (0 seconds)
    Level: status
    Code: NetStream.Play.Start
    status (0.434 seconds)
    Level: status
    Code: NetStream.Buffer.Flush
    status (4.898 seconds)
    Level: status
    Code: NetStream.Play.Stop
    It doesn't matter if I click the button or not. The video is
    on my network.

  • Flash Player for FLV files with alpha channel encoded

    My goal is to play the the transparent background flash video on the bottom right hand corner similar to the video on this website : http://www.dropshipblueprint.com/
    I already have the FLV file with alpha channel encoded.  I was made to understand I will need a special flash player that can read alpha channel in the flv file to make the background transparent? Is this correct? If yes, then how to accomplish this or where do I get that player, maybe opensourece player?  If the player is not a solution then how do I accomplish my end objective taking into consideration I have the FLV file with the alpha channel encoded.  Thanks for your help. Sam

    Sam,
    Welcome to the forum.
    Where do you need to play this "sprite" (the name for such a Flash video)?
    If you need to add that to a Video, then there could be a few challenges in PrE.
    If you need to add it to a Web site, then Flash Player (free from Adobe) should be able to display that.
    Can you please give us just a bit more info, on how you wish to use the sprite?
    Good luck,

  • Flash player/swf flv files behind members area not showing up

    Hi-
    I am having problems with my swf and flv files. I have tried both going through adobe and JW players. My specific problem is this: I am posting to a non-mobile me server and these flash files are going behind a ccbill members area that you can only get to by signing in as a member through a paying website using ccbill. I saw Bob's post on the 11th and tried deleting the extra / I saw in my html files as well.. but that did not work. The pages come up without the flv or swv files. Have tried both. Shows up fine in iweb but when published it's not there. No error messages. Not even a blank box. It's just not there.
    Any advice? Been to Old Toad, Roddy McKay, iwebunlimited (Jason) and iwebfaq (Cédric), apple forums iweb sites. Cannot find anything specific to members area so any advice would be very helpful!

    Just so you know the Terms of Use for MobileMe accounts states the following:
    "*Limitations on Use*
    You agree to use the Service only for purposes as permitted by these TOS and any applicable law, regulation, or generally accepted practice in the applicable jurisdiction. The Service is designed for personal individual use and is not intended to be used for commercial business purposes, including, but not limited to, transacting online sales or software distribution via an e-commerce site. "
    The above is there to protect Apple in case of the server goes down or otherwise interrupts access to the sites and you lose income because of it.
    MobileMe is not the best server to use for a commercial site. It's very slow and erratic in its performance. A commercial server, full service login type of password protection, i.e. each user has their own password and user name instead of one for everyone, etc., would be much more efficient and faster loading. Just some food for thought.

  • Positioning external flv files on stage??

    Hy, i am loading 3 flv files so that the first file plays once and the other two loop afterwards. Now i am interested is it possible to position the flv files on the stage to certain coordinates when they start to play (so for example that the first flv plays as default in the centre, the second flv file plays a little bit right and the third plays a little bit left). This is the code i'm using:
    import fl.video.VideoEvent;
    var clips:Array=["1index.flv","2sat.flv","3spavam.flv"];
    var index:int = 0;
    /* gledamsat would be what I think you are wanting to name the instance of the FLVPlayback on the stage... */
    gledamsat.addEventListener(VideoEvent.COMPLETE,goNext);
    function goNext(e:VideoEvent):void {
            index++;
            if(index > clips.length-1){
               index = 1;
            gledamsat.source = clips[index];
    function init():void{
       gledamsat.source = clips[0];
    init();
    Now i tried these lines to position the flv files but it doesnt work:
    if (2sat.loaded == true) {
    2sat._x = 400;
    if (3spavam.loaded == true) {
    3spavam._x = 100;
    Can someone help??! Can the flv files be positioned when loaded???

    Modify the following function
    function goNext(e:VideoEvent):void {
            index++;
            if(index > clips.length-1){
               index = 1;
            gledamsat.source = clips[index];
    to,
    function goNext(e:VideoEvent):void
    index++;
    gledamsat.source = clips[index];
    if(index == 0)
       gledamsat.x = <original poosition>;
    else if(index == 1)
       gledamsat.x = <original poosition> + 10;
    else if(index == 2)
       gledamsat.x = <original poosition> - 10;
    if(index == clips.length-1){
        index = -1;

  • Can Adobe After Effects 5.5 Educational Version produce Flash video in FLV file format.

    Everything I see here says yes, but I don’t see that option in the software.

    The only thing I want to do with this software is create a FLV video file with a transparent background using RGB+Alpha.
    I’ve seen After Effects v3 do what I want, and this video says the version I have will do just that (http://www.peachpit.com/podcasts/episode.aspx?e=5a0c0558-708a-4511-af87-41797811841d), but I don’t have a FLV option in export. Could it be I have some options set incorrectly?

  • External FLV files

    I'm attempting to do this with the steps found under Flashc
    CS3 Documentation. My trouble comes when I get to the 8th step
    (actions panel). My actions panel says "Current selection cannot
    have actions applied to it."
    Any suggestions?

    Thanks for such a quick reply. I changed the Void to void and
    that problem has gone, but now I have a host of other problems.
    I'm attempting to make a menu of video clips that would be
    much better served on a DVD, but the client wants it as a CD. I'm
    having difficulty with the audio and video staying in sync and this
    seemed to be a solution. Is there another route you would suggest?
    thanks,

  • Can't seem to stream (RTMP) an FLV file in Flash Media Playback from the Amazon Cloud

    I seem to be having trouble streaming any FLV file using RTMP from the Amazon Cloud.  Other file formats (i.e., MP4, F4V) seem to work just fine.
    I tried using your Flash Media Playback demo page and still had the same problem:
    http://www.osmf.org/configurator/fmp/
    Without publicly displaying the actual connection path here, this is what I am using for the Video Source (URL):
    rtmp://xxxxxxxxxxxxxx.cloudfront.net/cfx/st/_definst_/MyVideo.flv
    If I change the "MyVideo.flv" to "mp4:MyVideo.f4v", for example, then it works.  But when I try to reference any FLV file that I have located on the Amazon Cloud then it just shows continuous buffering.
    The FLV files that I am trying to use with both the Strobe and Flash Media Playback(s) all stream just fine when I connect to them via other Flash based applications/players that I have.
    Do you have any suggestions?
    Thank you very much.

    Hello,
    The link to the previous post does not seem to apply or help in this case.  Please let me know if I am wrong.
    I am merely trying to stream any FLV file using your Flash Media Playback demo page.  What am I missing here?
    Thanks again.

  • Play flv file in Adobe Flash Player

    I am new to flash. Can the Adobe Flash player play an
    external flv file directly? I tried and it can't play. It looks
    like the flash player can only play swf file. How does the flv file
    get played by the Adobe Flash Player?
    Thanks.

    No it can't, you need SWF to load the file within.

  • How to stream flv files from a diffferent directory outside the applications folder

    Hi everyone,
    I want to stream the flv files from a different location
    stored in the hard disk, which is outside the applications folder
    in the FMS installation root directory. Does anyone know how to do
    it?
    Regards,
    Diptanu

    VOD changes won't help him, he said outside the applications
    folder. According to adobe any new vod folders must be in the
    applications folder, hence virtually worthless for most purposes. A
    better question may be, how do you specify a folder on a different
    local hard drive. I wish adobe wouldn't make it so complicated, it
    should be a really simple matter.

  • How can I hide my flv files?

    hello,
    I made a flash project that I published as an exe file. this project calls a number of external flv files. Now, I want to hide these files, because it's my own work and I don't want anyone to steal it, how can I hide these files?
    my project will be published on a cd.
    thank you for your help

    Well the best feature of having all the content on the CD is that it's all self contained, no need to go someplace else (like the Internet) to get content. But it certainly is possible to store the .flv files on a Web server and have Flash content on the CD go to the Internet to download and play the videos. Little more complex to get it all working AND then the user must have an Internet connection available or they can't see the videos. But even then... if it's on the Internet it can be copied.
    Or look into sone type of encryption program:
    http://www.truecrypt.org/
    http://www.axantum.com/axcrypt/
    but I'm not sure that you can use the content without first decrypting the data.
    As for watermarking and adding a copyright notice, this is normally done when the video is first being edited in whatever software is used to capture and edit the original video file. Once the file is already created, there are software programs to add the mark... something like this:

    Best of luck!

  • Use space bar to play an FLV file

    I have an external FLV file on frame 25 of my flash movie. I
    would like to make it so the user has to press the space bar for
    that FLV to play. Right now it plays automatically when we get to
    frame 25. How can I do this?
    Thanks,

    How do I change to Actionscript 2.0? It won't let me enter

  • How do I protect my FLV files? or How to encrypt and decrypt FLV files using AIR?

    Hi,
         I am working on an AIR application, which is developed on eLearning concept. The application mainly deals with flv files. The application contains a video player component, which will stream flv files from an Apache Server and played in my application. Here my concern is I would like to protect my flv files some how against users who may stream them from Apache Server and use them without my application.
         I thought of with an idea to do it. But I don't know whether it will work or not. So I am requesting for your suggestions and better ways to do this with a sample.
    Here is my thought:
    I would like to place the encrypted FLV files at Apache Server side [ Need to know how to encrpt the FLV files using Flex]
    As my AIR application send a request for a FLV file, the Apache server should send the decryption key and a stream of FLV file.
    AIR application should take the decryption key, stream of flv file and it should capable enough to decrypt the FLV file and play it in my application. [ But I don't know how to encrypt/decrypt FLV files through flex]
    I can do encryption of FLV files using Mac Address of Apache Server system and using Java. But I don't know how can I decrypt the same FLV file ( Encrypted using Mac Address and java ) at AIR application side.
    So I would be greatfull If any body help me in encrypting and decrypting of FLV file with a sample using Flex 3.0.
    Thanks

    Is it because the portable drive is NTFS format and the Mac wont recognise this? If so what do I do?
    Yes, this is exactly what is causing the problem. Macs cannot write to NTFS formatted drives, only read. You must move the documents to the internal HDD/SSD of the Mac to be able to edit them.
    Or, since you say you don't want to move the documents to the internal storage, you'll need to format the external HDD as FAT32.

  • Play another flv file in between a flv file

    Hi,
    I am trying to find a way to play another flv file in between
    a flv file. Say, I play flv A for 10 seconds then play flv B and
    then resume back to flv A where it just stopped.
    Is it possible to do this and roughly how to do it?
    Thanks!
