Flash .swf as a background

I have a website where a fundamental requirement is the use
of .swf behind other elements, e.g. HTML. These .swf flies are only
there as design elements, they fulfil no other purpose but the
client insists they are there. but the client insists they are
there.
I have tried various ways but each time the .swf displays
above the rest of the content. I have used z-index on the
positioning elements (using css-p) to no avail.
Looking at other web resources it appears that it is not
possible apart from doing it all in Flash. Can someone confirm this
please or point me in the right direction.
Thanks and cheers, Chris

in Safari at least the flashdesignzone site flickers like mad
when I
roll over the menus...

  • Spry Sliding Panel bugs with Flash SWF, iFrames, CSS background images

    Greetings,
I'm working on a site right now that is build with Spry 1.6
Sliding Panels. On the home panel I have integrated a looping SWF,
and scrolling iFrames on the Overview panel. After extensive
research on these forums, I'm still scratching my head at a few
    bugs listed below:
    • Firefox (MAC v2.0.0.14)
    - The SWF on the home panel doesn't hide properly when
sliding to a different panel. I have set 'wmode opaque' parameters
to the flash file, but this seems to have not resolved the issue.
    - Additionally, I've noticed that sometimes the SWF will not
finish sliding into the correct position when clicking to the home
panel (the SWF will stop sliding several pixels left of the
    original positioning).
    - The SWF (which happens to be a loop animation) resets every
time the home panel is visited. In my testing, this does not happen
    in any other browser.
    - On the Overview panel, scrolling iFrames are used on the
"Staff Profiles". These iFrames don't hide properly when clicking
through other panels, as the scroll bars are still viewable.
    - Overall, the sliding animation is a bit choppy compared to
all other browsers. I can live with this, but I wonder if I have
    improper code somewhere?
    • Opera (MAC v9.27)
    - Same issue as above concerning the fact that the SWF
appears outside of the sliding panel view port.
    • IE 6
    - CSS background images flash during the sliding panel
    animation.

  • New to flash, swf loaded while changing size

i'm trying to create a button that will replace the current
swf with another and i want the size to change between the various
sizes of each page. i'm currently using the following code in the
    action inspector:
    on(release){loadMovieNum("myfilename.swf",0);
i know there has to be a simple way to do this! a very
grateful thanks to anyone who tries to help!

You can't change size dynamically as it is defined by the
object embed tags.
You could use WMODE transparency which could help you fake it
tho not always best
solution to go with WMODE. It's a very buggy parameter.
WMODE will remove the background color so the flash movie
appear over the html and you
can see the HTML content trough the movie.
You could define some solid shape for the background on
bottom layer to make it look
like SWF background, than change it with the other loaded
movie making it appear as it
changed size while the over all flash size stats the same. As
said above - faking it.

  • Horizontally centering flash .swf" and disallowing horizontal scroll??

Is it possible to center a flash .swf file on a website, and then disable horizontal scrolling?
I made my website in Flash Catalyst, and I made the width 1700px and the height 1200px. I made the width large because I wanted it to look good in the largest screen resolutions, but my biggest problem now that I've finished making the website is putting it up. Simply embedding it makes it scroll horizontally all the way to 1700px, which isn't good for those with small browsers.
Originally, I was planning on making the flash file the background in CSS (using body {background: url(FILE.swf) no-repeat #000 top center}) but then I found out you can't put .swf's as backgrounds.
Basically, I want to know if it's possible to center the .swf horizontally, and then disallow horizontal scrolling. I want to keep vertical scrolling,
    Any help appreciated!

Is it possible to center a flash .swf file on a website, and then disable horizontal scrolling?
Yes, but it introduces other problems. With scrolling disabled, you might not be able to see all the page. I DO NOT recommend what you are trying to do. Flash scaling would most likely give you better results.
Background images if intended to cover a large area are typically very small images which are repeated to create a pattern. Using one large image will still never cover all the possible screen resolutions or page sizes... for example larger than 1700 or taller than 1200 pixels.
Centering requires a set dimension, like 1700 so auto set margins would center it, but it still may not cover 100% as using a width of 100% would.
That being said, turn off horizontal scroll and leave vert on with:
    overflow-y: auto !important;
    overflow-x: hidden !important
then you'll need to use z-indexing to lay anything else over the top of you background .swf
Here a sample page that should get you going... dimensions are smaller so you can see how it works... the principle is the same.

  • Integrating Flash swf or html with Dreamweaver

I created a swf file to replace my current static background image (page properties) in dreamweaver (the files are the same dimensions). When I try to select it, the swf file is grayed out. So I deleted the background image and inserted the flash swf with a transparent bkgd. When I preview it in my browser (safari) it doesn't work. I like the position of the static file and would like the swf to stay in the same place to compensate for different user monitor sizes. Please Help!!!!
The current/live site is http://www.sistercirclemedina.com you will see the static image (header_11_01.jpg). I added the revised homepage (index.html) to my site you can find that at http://www.481gddr.com/sistercircle/index.html  The script files required are in a script folder on the hosting server. I also inserted the swf into a completely new dreamweaver document and it does not work.
If the swf file won't work...why? Should I try to use the js and input that into the dreamweaver code?
Thank you so much for your assistance and time.

Check, if all the paths in your projects are "relative" paths.
If you drag&drop files or link in dreamweaver, DW will most likely use absolute paths.
Then when you upload  your files, some of this paths won`t exist.
I also inserted the swf into a completely new dreamweaver document and it does not work.
You cant really "insert" a swf into a dreamweaver document.
DW in this case does nothing else then telling the browser (via the <flash> tag where to find the swf. that has to go into a <div>

  • Load time issues FLEX swf vs. FLASH swf

    Hello,
We are building FLex and Flash apps running on Flash 10.1.  In our situation, the load time for a 1080x768 swf is slower when building in Flex than in flash.  We have tried useing the preinitialize event to set at least a loading message, but the delay happens before the preinitialize event.  It seems to take 1-2 seconds to load the FLex API perhaps?  The only visula we can see is the background color of the stage.  Even with a simple nearly empty main canvas, the load is slow enough to be noticable.  More importanly it is faster when using a FLASH swf ( or pure AS3), so it must be related to the FLex aspect.  Is there anyway to cache the common classes or maybe exclude some that are not used?
    Thanks,
    Jeff Schuenke

The main point of RSLs is to gamble on improving download time of the SWF at
networks speeds.  The gamble is that someone has already loaded the RSL so
it gets picked up off the browser cache at hard-drive speeds.  If it isn't
true, you pay a higher penalty because you are loading an RSL that has code
in it you aren't using.  That's why the total payload is more.  For the
record, only the SWF or the SWZ gets loaded, not both.  But even then the
    total payload would be more.
At home, my DSL/WIFI network gets me about 70KB/sec, so saving 300K would be
a noticable savings.  If you are loading off a hard disk, 300K probably
    won't be felt.
The startup sequence of a SWF over a network (http or https):
    -start streaming in SWF bytes
-when the first frame is downloaded (generally about 80-100K) see how many
bytes are left to download and if there is a lot, show a progress bar
-load any RSLs and wait for their download and initialization
-update the progress bar until the rest of the SWF downloads
    -after the SWF downloads:
        -initialize styles
        -initialize resources
        -prepare embedded fonts
-setup managers for popups, tooltips, dragging if needed
        -instantiate Application
-verify and initialize all classes needed by Application
            -dispatch Application preinitialize
-instantiate the initial set of children for the Application
            -dispatch Application initialize
-update progress bar to show "initializing"
-start validation of Application and its children
-continue to do so until all children are measured and layed out
        -dispatch Application creationComplete
-add Application to stage (actually systemManager)
        -dispatch Application applicationComplete
The startup sequence of a SWF on a hard drive is different.  The entire SWF
must be sucked into memory, unzipped (SWFs are zipped by default) and only
then do we get to the steps where we show a progress bar, check for RSLs,
    etc.
At 3MB, there might be a noticeable hit.  You can find a big image file and
zip it to see if it comes out to about 3MB.  Then use the file system to
copy it and see how long that takes and then unzip it and see how long that
    takes.
Another place that causes delay is in the validation of children.  If the
children's size are not stable right away (because data is coming in that
affects their size) then several validation passes might be taking place.
A common error is to create every child in the app, even ones that aren't
seen or needed right away.  That adds work at validation time and delays the
    startup process.
I would recommend that you use the performance profiler in Flex Builder to
see where all the time is being spent.
However, 3MB is a big SWF. Use of modules to chop off stuff not needed until
"later" is recommended and will probably be the answer.

  • Problems loading Adobe Flash SWF file

Our users are experienceing problems loading Adobe Flash SWF
    files.
One example of a problem file is:
    http://www.adobe.com/enterprise/accessibility/popup_acr8_accessibility.html
User traffic is flowing through a Cisco ASA firewall - these
problems do not seem to occur from home networks or a Netscreen
firewall. The Cisco ASA does NOT have http deep packet inspection
turned on, and any traffic initiated by clients inside the firewall
should be allowed. The symptom is that Internet Explorer will begin
to download the video, but will hang at some point along the way
(for this particular URL it hangs at about 7%). No error messages
are displayed, but the video never displays on the screen either. I
would appreciate hearing from anyone who may have run into this
before, or if someone can explain what is different about this type
of file from regular Adobe Flash, that might help figure out what
the ASA is objecting to. The ASA does not appear to generate any
log messages about denying this type of traffic either.
Thanks in advance for any help you can provide...

Thanks, but I use publish/export settings with GPU hardware acceleration and flash version 11.2 (and 11.8) but nothing happening.
And why gif file is not all transparenty then I insert on lightblue background? It can't export good quality? Also I use Photoshop, After Effects, Adobe Edge Animate. And nothing happening. Egde animate file .oam is not good for old website navigation. It can't be inserted in freeshop site from navigation... I use logo file .oam just for example here - http://e-shoptagras.graphicsrim.eu
In reality I want swf file, but we don't find why logo flickering? here http://tagraseshop.graphicsrim.eu
    All file's are transparenty - https://mega.co.nz/#!f8B2CD5R!J8uCJt9Sdq4Suz4HLhTHz8bzJcSWXMBIKcKZgkD3z8c

How do you make hyperlinks/buttons work in Flash/SWF Captivate 5.5 presentations? This did not seem to be an issue with Version 4. I cannot publish to video (i.e. mp4) or as an executable file for posting on our internal system. If it cannot be done in Flash/SWF, how else can I get buttons/hyperlinks to work? Thank you.

    Hello.
I have an flash swf in a site that runs on every browser except in Firefox. I get an warning telling me that the page requires a newer version of flash player but i already have the 10,0,32,18 and the swf was published for flash player 9.
    Can anyone help me please?

The figures you mention only make sense on your intranet.  Are you still using the same wireless router.  The verizon one is somewhat limited as far as max wireless-n performace.  For one thing it only has a 2.4 radio.   I like many people who wanted wireless-n performance before they even added a wireless-n gigabit router, have my own handling my wireless-n network.

  • Importing Flash (.swf) to Keynote

    Hi all,
I am working in Keynote '08 (4.0.2) and have Quicktime 7.4.1 (14) installed. I need to import a Flash (.swf) file and play it in Keynote. Even though the online help says this: "You can also add video or Flash movies that play within a slide. For Flash to work with QuickTime 7.1.3 and later, choose Apple menu > System Preferences, click QuickTime, click Advanced, and select Enable Flash." Keynote 4.0.2 does not accept .swf files (they are grayed out) and Quicktime 7.4.1 cannot play an .swf (This is not a movie file). Should I unistall QT 7.4.1 and install a previous QT version? Can Apple fix this problem? Any other suggestions? Thanks

Thanks for your quick response. Perian helps with Flash video but as far as I can tell it does not help with swf format. I have an actionscript loaded flash file that cannot be converted to MPEG-4. If you are indeed correct and Apple no longer supports swf with QT then I want my money back for iWork. It clearly states in their manual/help that users can import swf files and play them in Keynote. What a rip-off.
Is there a way to unistall QT 7.4.5?
    Thanks.

  • Firefox Embedded Flash swf not shown in asynchronous desktop

    Hi all,
in a jsp I embed a binary property of a content node that includes a flash .swf file. All that in an asynchronous desktop, using Firefox.
    I use the follwing code:
    "<embed scale="exactfit" quality="high" menu="false" width="600" height="400" hswLiveConnect="false" src="<%=myPropertyUrl%>">
When the page is loaded by "normal" browser request, the flash animation inside the jsp renders as expected. After click on an url (<a> ....</a>) inside the same JSP the portlet content refreshes (via Ajax request), only the flash disappears. After F5 it's back agian.
The problem does not exist with IE!
How do i need to handle this for Firefox?
    Thanks for help.

Firefox uses the object if there isn't a classid to specify an ActiveX control for IE.<br />
You didn't specify such a classid (classid="clsid:D27CDB6E-AE6D-11cf-96B8-444553540000"), so there is actually no need for the embed in this case.<br />
As jscher2000 posted above, an object tag only works in Firefox if there is a data attribute present (copy of the movie param) to specify the Flash file and a possible MIME type.
    <pre><nowiki><object style="width:420px;height:272px" data="http://static.issuu.com/webembed/viewers/style1/v2/IssuuReader.swf" type="application/x-shockwave-flash" >

  • How to set up one-button embed-hotlinking for Flash SWF?

    Hello,
I'm publishing a webcomic in Flash.swf format and I'd like to make it as easy as possible for people to grab my comic and put it on their website. How can I set up one-button hot-linking that will automagically provide the code so that they can easily drop it into their website, similar to the way YouTube does with video?

you can use the following.  the bolded lines require you to use appropriate values:
