  • BIOS doesnt recognize SATA connected Hard Drive- need help flashing bios from bootable USB

    hi
I have an envy laptop running InsydeH20 bios rev f14.
the bios doesn't recognize the internally connected hdd/ssd.
I have heard that with insyde bios', sometimes you have to unlock 'secret capabilities' to recognize hardware incl internal hdd.
but I am just trying to reflash my bios.
the problem is that I cant get into windows because it doesn't recognize my hard drive and windows doesn't allow insallation to usb connected drives.
I downloaded the patch from hp.com for my product and it actually has an option for making a bootable USB for use on the actual system, and I did this. the instructions are to just restart my computer with the bootable usb. I have tried Legacy support on and off, neither updates bios.
I highly doubt it has anything to do with the physical sata connector.
basically I need to flash my bios from bootable usb. I have done some research about making a bootable dos usb etc etc but I don't know what program to even run and how..
this is a link to my product:

    hi
I need to flash the bios of my system. the bios is not recognizing hardware and cannot boot into windows to run the bios flash for windows.
on my other comp I ran the bios update patch and chose ' install to bootable usb ' so that I could use it on my system.
cannot run on my laptop. tried booting from the media. tried allowing 'legacy' compatibility.
im running insydeH2O rev f14 right now.

  • MSI 770T-C45 won't post after flashing BIOS with M-FLASH

After flashing AMIBIOS 8.3 to v8.7 with M-FLASH via USB stick I can't get any post.
Had I read this forum before I wouldn't have done it, but here I am.
Fan starts, LEDs are off, no beeps at all, power button does nothing. Black screen.
After force flashing (yes, I am THAT stupid) the prompt said it would reboot in 5 seconds and after that nothing.
    Here's my setup:
    Board: MSI 770T-C45
    Original Bios: v8.3
Flashed Bios:  v8.7 (flashed with M-FLASH)
VGA:   EVGA NVIDIA GeForce GTX 660
    PSU:   Enermax FMAII EG465AX-VE 460W
    CPU: AMD Phenom x4 9650
    MEM: Kingston DDR2-667 4x2GB KVR667D2N5/2G
    HDD: SAMSUNG 840 SSD 250GB
    OS: Windows 8 Pro 64bit
I tried every CMOS clearing method found in previous posts and threads (including this and this.)
    1. Unplugged from power, waited 5 minutes, removed the battery (5mins), changed jumper position (5min), switched it back (5min), plugged it in (5min) and powered up with and without USB stick in the hub next to network hub with old BIOS (v8.3) inside. Pressed CTRL+HOME, anything, not a single message or beep or LED flashing.
Also I removed all RAMs and kept one in the first socket. Nothing.
I really don't know what to do next. What seems to differ from other users is LEDs non working, what does that mean?

The problem here is that after update 8.6 the m-flash module was updated, so yes your mobo is a brick, but there is still hope for it. I had the same situation a few days ago with the exact same model and was able to recover it by following the steps on listed on the below posts:
    https://forum-en.msi.com/index.php?topic=133578.0
    https://forum-en.msi.com/index.php?topic=129989.0
It may seem complicated at first, but trust me its not at all.
Anyways you probably already have another mobo, send it for RMA or used it as frisbee, but it may come handy for some other doing the same noob flashing as we did

  • Can I flash BIOS with 5.6?

    Hi!
I've been running my KT3-Utra2 for a year with a XP1700+ an BIOS 5.5 and 5.6. Two weeks ago I upgraded to a XP2500+ Barton, before I installed that CPU I flashed the BIOS with 5.7. Well now I have alot of problems with the stability og my computer... So can I flash back to 5.6? Does 5.6 support 2500+ (Barton)?
I've sold my 1700+ so unfortunatly I can not use this if 5.6 doesn't support my CPU.
Hope someone can answer my question.
    Regards
    Anders

Well, that was my question in the first place.
In order to flash it I have to put the CPU in, turn on teh computer and then flash it. If the CPU won't work on the mobo until I flash it, how can I flash it?
I hope I'm not missing something, here.

  • Max supported cpu by K7N420 Pro? & can I flash bios with a CDR?

I just want to ask two questions. I'm looking at my christmas present being one of the fastest supported cpus by the k7n420 pro? (I remember it being the 2100+ model but then it was raised)
And, does anyone know if I can flash a bios onto a board using a cd writer? Has anyone tried? And do you have to do anything special or just write the programming software and bios to cd (just like floppy) and just boot to dos using windows ME startup disk to use commands to open and program bios?
    Thank you,

    Thank you,
In theory, you should be able to create a bootable CD, boot from your writer, and never use a floppy at all. TO be safe (since you never know about DOS one-size-fits-all drivers like the Oak Tech ones in common use) you could boot from the CD, then copy all the BIOS related files to the ram drive and do it from there. Since the ram drive method is the recommended one with NTFS systems it should work perfectly.

  • Flash Bios with Vista 64bit is a Problem

I thought it was easy to flash my P6N Diamond. Unfortunately, it's not.  I'm not going to use a floppy disk to flash my drive because i don't have a drive and don't want to use them.  So, I used my Vista installation disk, but the bios flash exe (Afud408.exe) is a 32bit application and won't run in the 64bit command prompt.
Liveupdate doesn't work either because it's vista and because it's 64bit.
MSI, please develop 64bit flash executables or atleast a vista/64bit compatible LiveUpdate.
Until then, any ideas that aren't terribly complicated to update my bios?

Relatively stable. I frequently get lockups at random times, as well as random crashes.  I have a QX6850 processor with Bios version 1.2.  Bios version 1.3 supposedly has a change directly for that processor. I'm hoping that updating to 1.3 will end my instability.
    1.3
    - Update CPU ID for QX6850.
    - Update NVMM.
    - Fixed system report incorrect memory size when install 4G memory.

  • How to flash bios with NTFS drive?

How to make a good bootdisk and which procedure to follow?
Sorry if this question might be asked before, then just put the link to the post if possible.
    Thanks a lot.

    Pitchoop,
Just go in to your windows explore, put a floppy in your floppy drive. Right click on the Icon for the floppy drive and choose Format. In the format options you will see Create an MS-DOS Boot Disk.
Then transfer the flash utility and the BIOS to the floppy and you are set for flashing.
    Take Care,
    Richard

  • HELP !!!! Want to Flash AMI bios with CD/DVD to MS-7280 (K9A Platinum)

    Hello,
Since i've searched several hours on this forum and DID find something similar but not 100% i still gonna ask that question.
My son's pc (MOBO see subject) was not doing well and was really slooooooowwwww.
After installing W7 64, he didn't want to start up and came with some weird errors.
I cleared the CMOS and after that: Unknown Bios error and does not start USB (latency also disabled).
It also says that i have to push F2 for loading defaults ....but my USB keyboard is not starting at that time.
I think my BIOS is corrupt or something like that.... So flashing BIOS is the right thing to do .....i think.
BUT.....: Can i Flash BIOS on that MOBO with CD/DVD???? And how?
Thanks for your answer in advance.

Did you install W 7 64 bit drivers for it?
Not sure if W 7 would have drivers for an older MB like that but MSI does have some.
     http://us.msi.com/support/mb/K9A_Platinum.html#down-driver&Win7%2064
Like Flobelix said you may need to use PS/2 keyboard to get into BIOS (repeatedly tap 'Delete' key after power on to get into BIOS setup) and 1st thing you would need to do is enable setting for 'USB Device Legacy Support' (page 3-12 in English pdf manual, bottom one in the list) so you can get into BIOS using USB keyboard anytime in the future.

  • BIOS Update Bootable or Update Utility

    Hi,
I am in the process of installing all updates on my new W520.  Regarding the BIOS, I noticed there are two options as following:
BIOS Update Bootable CD for Windows 7
BIOS Update Utility for Windows 7
Is it preferable to use one over the other?  What is the reason why Lenovo offers this choice?
    Thanks
    W520 (4270 CTO) | i7-2820QM (8mb cache) | BIOS 1.40 | 1920x1080 FHD | Sensor |
    Hybrid Seagate 750gb | 16 GB 1333 mHz RAM | 2000M NVIDIA GPU 2gb | Ultimate-N 6300 | Windows 7 Professional (64-bit)
    Solved!
    Go to Solution.

I can tell you that with previous models the bios update utility wouldn't run under a 64bit windows version so their solution was a bootable dos type disc that would do the flash, however I don't (personally) think it was designed well. The bootable disc will do the job just fine assuming there are no problems with the computer, but I had it destroy a computer because I hadn't realized that a used computer I picked up had a failing optical drive, so a few simple read errors on the disc and it flashed garbled data onto my bios chip and there is no easy way to recover.
Since your unit is new and in top condition, it shouldn't matter, and even if the bios flash did ruin your system board, it would be fixed under warranty, but if I was designing the bootable disc I would have it pause with a "do not continue if your system appears unstable", instead of having it continue no matter what state the system is in.
The update utility is my method of choice now, but keep in mind that you do need a stable operating system. a random bluescreen crash in the middle of a flash and you could end up with an unusable system.

  • HELP: Failure flashing BIOS using Live Update 5

    Hi,
I used Live Update 5 to download the latest BIOS version for my MB. Then when I was running the update, I chose "". (I know it's incorrect and I should have chosen the other one.) After the update, the machine restarted and showed a cursor blinking on the top left on a black screen, and it wouldn't proceed any more. I can enter the BIOS without a problem. I can also boot from CD or USB, but the windows on my machine simply wouldn't boot.
After the problem arose, I have tried flashing the BIOS with the MSI Forum HQ USB Flashing tool on this forum. It tells me that  but the same problem remains.
    What should I do now?
Thanks for your time and consideration!

After any flash, the battery should be removed for awhile and the CMOS cleared. Reset all your BIOS menu settings again making sure the boot order etc. is correct and the proper mode is selected that your OS was installed under, i.e. IDE or AHCI mode.
