Flex Builder Web Server?

If I build my project in Flex Builder and click the green run
button, my project loads in a browser and runs great. But the web
address is
file:///C:/lcds/jrun4/servers/default/myProject/bin/myProject.html.
If I try to view that same page by going to
localhost:8700/myProject/bin/myProject.html I get a blank grey
screen. It's the typical Flex grey default background but my
interface isn't there.
Any ideas?
I'm stumped.

okay... a bit more digging back to the beginning of my
setup...
if I try to view the LCDS samples I get server 500 errors
with the following:
java.lang.NullPointerException
at
jrun.servlet.JRunRequestDispatcher.invoke(JRunRequestDispatcher.java:258)
at
jrun.servlet.ServletEngineService.dispatch(ServletEngineService.java:541)
at
jrun.servlet.http.WebService.invokeRunnable(WebService.java:172)
at
jrunx.scheduler.ThreadPool$ThreadThrottle.invokeRunnable(ThreadPool.java:428)
at jrunx.scheduler.WorkerThread.run(WorkerThread.java:66)
Sounds like something broke, obviously, but what do I need to
do... reinstall LCDS? Java? The Flex compiler?

  • How to deploy flex in web server

    hi there.
im newbie flex developer and im having problem in deploying my project in web server.

    Hi,
When you deploy your application, you make it available to customers. Typically, you deploy the application as a SWF file on a web server so that users can access it by using an HTTP request to the SWF file.
When you deploy the application's SWF file, you must also deploy all of the assets required by the application.
Deploying an application for Flex SDK and Adobe® Flex® Builder® might require you to perform some or all of the following actions:
Copy the application SWF file to your deployment server. As the previous example shows, you copy the application to webserver.example.com.
Copy any asset files, such as icons, media files, or other assets, to your deployment server.
Copy any RSLs to your web server or application server.
Copy any SWF files for your module to your deployment server in the same directory structure as you used for your development environment.
Copy any SWF files required to support Flex features, such as deep linking. For more information,
Write a wrapper for the SWF file if you access it from an HTML, JSP, ASP, or another type of page.A deployed SWF file can encompass your entire web application, however it is often used as a part of the application. Therefore, users do not typically request the SWF file directly, but request a web page that references the SWF file. Flex Builder can generate the wrapper for you, or, you can write the wrapper.
Create a crossdomain.xml file on the server for data service, if you directly access any data services outside of the domain that serves the SWF file.
    Following link will help you.

  • Flex components is not showing up after deploying to web server

    Hello,
I am working in flex builder 2.0 to develop a simple
    application.
I am getting some issues around custom components.
My directory structure is as follows:
    Project_Folder-
    |-Components
    |-bin
    |-assets
    |-Application.mxml
I put all my custom components in Components folder.
I have a custom component in there and the application.mxml
    is using
    it.
the code is somthign like this:
    <mx:Application xmlns:mx="
    http://www.adobe.com/2006/mxml"
    layout="absolute" xmlns:test="Components.*"
    backgroundGradientColors="[#000000, #000000]">
    <test:baseLayer horizontalCenter="0" top="0"/>
    </mx:Application>
Here base layer is the custom component.
My problem is when i ran it it is workign fine, but when I am
deploying it in the apache server teh Custom components are
    not
showing up. I copied all contents of the bin folder to my web
    server
    root.
I am not sure if it will need some extra task to deploy the
    custom
    component?
I thought since it is in the same project the swf file
    already packed
    with the custom components.
Please can anyone help me to clarify that?
    thank you,

Thanks, this makes sense. Can you tell me how I upload the whole scripts
folder to justhost.com? When I try to select the folder at upload it opens
the folder as if I should then select a single file ( like the
AC_RunActiveContent.js file that is in the folder) So that is what I did.
Which makes sense that the path is now broken for the flash cause it is not
in the folder anymore.  In other words what I don't understand is how to get
my scripts folder and its contents as a whole uploaded to the Justhost.com.
Thanks your email has been very helpful!
    10/14/09 12:32 [email protected]
I did finally figure out the problem.
In my case, I was putting all of my files directly into justhost.com with no
regard for the way the files were classified in the original folders used to
build my site. In other words, you can't just put AC_RunActiveContent.js into
justhost.com randomly and expect that your Flash will work.
Instead, you have to create a Scripts folder and then put
AC_RunActiveContent.js within the scripts folder.  This sets up the paths to
function the way they were originally created on your Dreamweaver document (or
whatever the html editor you may happen to be using).
Whether dealing with Flash or images, the main thing to remember is that you
have to mirror the structure of your original folders/files exactly.
So try creating a folder called Scripts, then place the AC_RunActiveContent.js
file inside of this Scripts folder, and see if that works.  I assume the foder
AC_RunActiveContent.js is within Scripts, but if it called something
different, just copy the name (exactly), and put AC-RunActiveContet inside of
    it.
    I hope this helps,

  • Internal Server Error When Trying to Open Flex Builder Tutorials

Anyone know what I need to set up to run the tutorials in
Flex Builder - get an internal error server (500) when trying to
open up the tutorials listed on the start page.
I can open, compile and run projects .
    Thanks

well thats a real vague error that IIS can spit out and it
could mean anything. If you are using a server side script in
conjunction with the tutorials for some reason that i would start
by commenting it all out. If you are just getting that error when
just trying to access a static html file that resides whithin your
web root then i would open up IIS and check you permisions under
your default web site for that folder.

  • Web Service stub code different in FB4 than in Flex Builder 3

We have an application that was initially developer in Flex Builder 3 and used the Import Web Service wizard to generate all the  webservice stub code we needed. We then upgraded to using Flash Builder 4 and importing the wsdl using the Connect to Data/Service wizard writes different stub code than what we had in Flex Builder 3.
What happened and is there a way to have the Flash Builder 4 wsdl importer write the stub code the way the Flex Builder 3 importer did?

I figured out the RDS issue - check the web.xml file in the
WEB-INF folder of cfroot and webroot. I uncommented the
<servlet-name> and the <servlet-mapping> tags which
referenced RDS Servlet, restarted the server, and that took care of
    the RDS issue.

  • Building Flex Application with Flex Builder installed in a remote server

Building Flex Application with Flex Builder installed in a remote server and different developers accessing it via VNC etc
I have a requirement as below..........this is mainly to look for a solution where we can see a environment.............where we can stop developer to install flex builder locally, download/check out code locally and work locally ..............Please have a look ........
    1. There is Remote Server hosting our source code say 1st Remote Server
    2. There is another 2nd Remote Server which support workspace for each user
    3. Flex Builder installed in the 2nd Remote Server
    4. Each Developer connects to the 2nd Remote Server via VNC etc log in to their workspace
    5. Each developer check out code in their workspace by connecting to 1st Remote Server.
    6. Start Flex Builder instance which is running in the 2nd Remote Server
    5. Each developer open source code modifies, build application in their workspace and check
Do anyone have any idea whether this kind of environment is possible in Flex or can anyone suggest something which is almost close to this ? I heard Cloud Computing is something that world is looking to represent this kind of solution .............not sure though

    Hi
The concept of cloud computing is not even very clear to me
I think this is what I understood about it ...........from this link http://communication.howstuffworks.com/cloud-computing.htm
    It says
"Instead of installing a suite of software for each computer, you'd only have to load one application. That application would allow workers to log into a Web-based service which hosts all the programs the user would need for his or her job. Remote machines owned by another company would run everything from e-mail to word processing to complex data analysis programs. It's called cloud computing, and it could change the entire computer industry"
"There's a good chance you've already used some form of cloud computing. If you have an e-mail account with a Web-based e-mail service like Hotmail, Yahoo! Mail or Gmail, then you've had some experience with cloud computing. Instead of running an e-mail program on your computer, you log in to a Web e-mail account remotely"
My issue is not with the license. The solution that I am looking for is
    1. Don't want the developer to download the source code in any fashion either checked out or anything else in the local machine
    2. Want the developer to work directly on the server
    3. Looking for a solution where each developer is not required to install Flex Builder locally and the developer can use Flex Builder that is installed on the server and in his workspace and create/modify build on the server itself

  • Building Flex application with Flex Builder in a Remote Server - Cloud Computing

    Hey Guys
I have a query or its confusion probably
I was just thinking if this kind of solution is existing or possible with say cloud computing or anything else?
This is what we all probably do for building our flex application?
    1. There is Remote Server hosting our source code
    2. Developer check out the code in their system locally by some Configuration tool like Perforce, CVS etc
    3. Developer Install Flex  Builder IDE locally and open the IDE and then create.build locally and then on testing check in the code in repository
All this is fine but we have some problem here
    a. We have to get all the source code checked out/downloaded in some local machine
    b. We have to install Flex Builder in each every developer machine with license.
A possible modification in the above can be as follows
    1. Don't download/check out the source code locally in each machine
    2. Create a mapped network drive of the Remote Repository and then work directly with the mapped network drive
    3. Install Flex Builder  locally
    4. Start Flex Builder create a Flex Project with source code in the mapped network drive
But this has some potential problem as now the building of the flex application directly work with the mapped network drive. This is very slow especially when we Keep the "Build Automatically" Check box to true
My question is that can we have a solution like this ?
    1. There is Remote Server hosting our source code
    2. There is another 2nd Remote Server which support workspace for each user
    3. Flex Builder installed in the 2nd Remote Server
    4. Each Developer connects to the 2nd Remote Server log in to their workspace
    5. Each developer check out code by connecting to 1st Remote Server. This code which is checked out now goes in their workspace in the 2nd Remote Server
    6. Start Flex Builder instance which is running in the 2nd Remote Server
    5. Each developer open source code modifies, build application in their workspace and check
I think this is something that I heard cloud computing can do ? Do anyone have any idea whether this kind of environment is possible in Flex or can anyone suggest something which is almost close to this ?

  • How to integrate a flex build in a web application running on jBoss 5.1

    Hi,
I have two flex builds for a messaging application that I have to integrate with my web application running on Jboss 5.1 . I have tried hot deploying the builds into the default deploy folder of Jboss, but that approach doesn't seem to work(maybe because I may need to make war out of the flex builds). Can someone tell me an approach of how to accomplish this. Can I leverage BLAZEDS for this purpose.

  • Flex Builder, debugger and web application: how?

    Hello,
I'm traying to setup a project in eclipse with both a java
web application (servlets, jsp) and flex applications as a
frontend. So I installed flex builder as a plugin on an eclipse+web
standard tools, then created a WST web application project, and
used the "Add flex nature.." of the flex plugin. I don't want to
    use the flex data services.
Now, in a standard run (I installed a tomcat 5.5 and
configured it in eclipse), my mxlm files are being correctly
compiled into swf, and they are successfully calling my servlets
(which simulates a backend xml-based interface).
I'm having problems in debug: if I launch the debug profile
related to tomcat, the normal version of the sfw will be used (even
manually switching to the "-debug" version, it says that a running
flex debugger has not be found on localhost). On the other way, if
I launch the debug as a "flex application", it seems to work (it
stops at breakpoints) but my tomcat is not started at all, the swf
is accessed as a local file and all call to my servlet will fail..
so it will stop working almost immediately.
There is a way to setup eclipse to start standard java
debugging with tomcat *and* the flex debugger?
    Thanks
    Cosma

I found a workaround of sorts for the problem: don't
    terminate the applications!
Previously, I would terminate the application using either
the Terminate button in the Debug view or by closing the tab in the
browser (Firefox). Now I just let them pile up in the browser and I
    rarely see this problem.
In other words, I was having lots of trouble when doing
    Launch-Terminate-Launch-Terminate... but now I just
Launch-Launch-Launch... and clean up once in a while.

  • Flex Builder 3 New Project

I am trying to get Flex Builder 3 setup but having some
problems configuring it to communicate with the app server. I had
this working once but cannot get it back. Flex builder is installed
on my XP machine and CF is installed on my Redhat 5 box with
    Apache.
    Here are my steps:
    1. Create new flex project
    2. Project Name: myfirstflex.
    3. Project location: N:\myfirstflex (mapped to samba share)
This is actually /var/www/html/myfirstflex on the RH box.
    4. Application Type: Web Application(runs in Flash Player)
    5. Server Technology: Coldfusion. Use remote access service
is checked. LCDS is selected at the moment but does not seem to
    matter which one is selected.
    6. Server Location: Standalone
    7. Coldfusion Root Folder: O:\WEB-INF\flex (samba share on RH
    box) This is actually /opt/coldfusion8/wwwroot/WEB-INF/flex.
    8. WebRoot: N:\myfirstflex (same as step 3)
    9. Root URL:
    http://myserver/myfirstflex
Upon on validation I get " Invalid root. The WEB-INF/flex
folder must contain either flex-config.xml or services-config.xml."
Like I said I had this working once but cannot get it back. Does
anyone see something I am overlooking?

I'd love to help because I know how frustrating it is to get
it working. Unfortunately, I run CF locally and IIS as the web
server. However, maybe my settings will spark something that you
    can use:
    1
    2. myFirstFlex
    3. C:\Documents and Settings\[useraccount]My
    Documents\myFirstFlex
    4. Web application/
    5. Coldfusion/ColdFusion Remoting
    6. Standalone
    7. c:\coldfusion8
    8. c:\inetpub\wwwroot
    9.
    http://localhost/
    is what works for me

  • Flex 4 Web Service Introspection For Dynamic WSDL Locations

In Flex 3, introspecting a web service resulted in a constructor that allowed the location of the web service to change at runtime.  It appears that the Web Service introspection tool now only allows the single WSDL URI that was specified in the WS Wizard.  It this the case or am I just missing something?
Flex 3 introspected services would create a service class with the following constructor signatures:
    private var service:MyWebService;
    service= new MyWebService(null, wsdlLocation);  // With parameters
    or you could use:
service = new MyWebService(); //with no parameters
In Flex 4, it appears that you can only use:
    service = new MyWebService();
So if you don't know the web server location until runtime, am I going to need to manually override the instrospected/generated _super_MyWebService.as class in order to get back the ability to point to different servers at runtime?
Anyone know why this has changed, or what the "new" way the Flash Builder 4 web service introspection tool uses for dynamic servers?
    Thanks a bunch!

In Flex 4, it appears that you can only use:
    service = new MyWebService();
    add
    service.wsdl = "your wsdl";
However if you want this to work you have to remove the hardcoded wsdl from the
superclass otherwise it will not reset it,

  • FLEX Builder Pro 3 New Flex Project cannot configure J2EE

I have FLEX Builder Pro 3 installed on a Windows XP machine.  LiveCycle Data Services is installed (with Tomcat) on a Linux RHEL 5 machine.  When trying to create a new FLEX project and configuring a J2EE server am very confused on what to put in Root Folder and Root URL.  I have tried various paths on the Root Folder (with a drive mapped through windows and also with just using the servername) and keep getting the error message:
Invalid root. The WEB-INF/flex folder must contain either flex-config.xml or services-config.xml.
I've located the flex-confing file in the tomcat5\webapps\ROOT\WEB-INF directory, but still get the error.
Please any help would be greatly appreciated.

Are your new classes referenced from the old code? Mxmlc employs a questionable form of "as-needed" linking, so classes that are not referenced from the main application are not even compiled. This referencing requirement is recursive; that is, any classes that are to be included have to be referenced from the main application, or from classes referenced by the main application, or from classes referenced by classes referenced by the main application, and so on. But if your new classes are not referenced at all from the old code, they will be ignored.
