Flex Hero on iOS using Packager

Well, I can happily say that I taking my Air for Android app and compiled it for iOS using the Packager....and it works.....sorta.
This was a first pass, and while it's not really functional (performance, and some Hero-based bugs), but it does function.  Remote AMF calls work, basic graphics are there, etc.  A good first pass!
I'm waiting anxiously for the next update to the Packager! (hope it comes soon)
Darren

Hey,
i also tried it and got some results but just like you, the applications were a bit laggy. Here is a complete tutorial about how to compile the application:
http://www.flex-tutorial.fr/2011/01/15/air-pour-ios-compiler-une-mobileapplication-flex-4- 5-pour-ios-avec-pfi/
It's in french, if you don't speak any french, you can still translate the page:
http://fr.babelfish.yahoo.com/translate_url?doit=done&tt=url&intl=1&fr=bf-home&trurl=http% 3A%2F%2Fwww.flex-tutorial.fr%2F2011%2F01%2F15%2Fair-pour-ios-compiler-une-mobileapplicatio n-flex-4-5-pour-ios-avec-pfi%2F&lp=fr_en&btnTrUrl=Traduire
Hope this helps,

  • Flex 4.6 IOS Mobile packager - can it load and play swf's dynamically at run time?

    I have an app that shows the viewer slides in a SWFLoader object.  I load the slides at runtime from a remote server.  When I package the app for IOS using 4.6 the swf slides load and play fine in the IOS emulator on the PC.  They don't load, however, when I deploy to a provisioned iPad.
    My guess is that IOS can handle doesn't know what to do with dynamically loaded swf data.  I'm not positive though because it plays in the emulator.  Is that emulator truly emulating xcode or is it running flash?
    Note:  this same app plays an rtmp flash stream just fine even on the device itself.  Just can't handle a dynamically loaded swf.

    The correct answer to this question appears to be that Apple's terms of service *do not* prohibit the loading of swf's on IOS from remote servers dynamically at runtime.  They prohibit the loading of swf's that *contain executable ActionScript code*.
    I loaded a PPT into Adobe Connect and then retrieved the resultant slide swf's from the Connect server.  I took these swf's and loaded them into my iPad app, dynamically at runtime, from a remote server.  The swf's loaded and animations played.  I made no changes to my code.  I'm just using a plain old SWFLoader object.
    Loading swf's dynamically at runtime from remote servers into IOS works - if you make the swf's right.  How to do that I'm not sure.

  • Flex components not compatible with iOS/ADT packager?

    I've been struggling hard and long to export a simple Hello World project to my iPhone with AIR 2.6. After a lot if reading on different blogs and sites I've gotten as far as packaging my debug swf to an IPA with ADT. The app starts on my iPhone but freezes during the preloader. If I change my main file to a strict AS3 file extending a Sprite it runs fine. Haven't been able to get startTouchDrag to work but I don't know if that has something to do with this problem.
    I've tried:
    Compiling with Flex 3.5, 4.0 and 4.1 (all merged with AIR 2.6 ofcourse)
    I've tried setting the project to Flex 3 compatible (when using 4.0 and 4.1)
    I've tried using MX components only.
    Am I banging my head against a wall here or is it possible to package Flex applications or do they need to be strict AS3?

    Hi Jeffrey
    Thank you for replying! I will try Burrito when I get the chance.
    I'm using iOS 4.3 on an iPhone 3GS so that shouldn't be a problem. I package with the AIR 2.6 adt and the swf is compiled in FB4 using Flex 4.1 merged with Air 2.6. I changed the main mxml file to an AS3 and now it runs on my iPhone but I can't get the TouchEvents to work. I get true when I trace Multitouch.supportsTouchEvents but I get no events when listening for TOUCH_BEGIN or TOUCH_TAP on either stage or a sprite. I've also added  -target-player=11 as and additional compiler argument in FB4 (from Cantrell blog).
    Is there something I might need to add to my adt packaging?
    C:\AdobeAIRSDK\bin\adt -package -target ipa-test -provisioning-profile HelloWorld.mobileprovision -storetype pkcs12 -keystore rs.p12 -storepass XXXXXX ./HelloWorld.ipa ./bin-debug/HelloWorld-app.xml -C ./bin-debug HelloWorld.swf -C ./bin-debug assets
    Should there be any files in the assets folder that I'm missing or anything special in the main-app.xml file?

  • Download Flex hero SDK ASDOCS

    Hi,
    Where can I download the asdocs? The SDk contains a small directory asdocs with a build.xml. I tried to build it, but get: 4.5.0\asdoc\build.xml:47: FLEX_HOME must be set to use the Flex Ant Tasks
    (I have set FLEX_HOME)
    The online help is no longer available: http://help.adobe.com/en_US/Flex/4.5/UsingFlashBuilder/AH_HOME.html
    Thanks,
    ropoboy

    The actual answer is to go to the main Developer Documentation page (http://opensource.adobe.com/wiki/display/flexsdk/Developer+Documentation), ignore the Flex Hero content and that there is no reference to Flex 4.5, click the 'General Flex 4 Documentation' link under 'Flex 4', this will take you to Flex 4.5 documentation, where you will find a link to the 'Full Documentation Set (zip)'.
    However the ASDoc documentation that is included here is partially broken. The "Show packages and classes list" link at the top doesn't work in Google Chrome on Mac. It does work in Firefox and Safari on Mac.
    It would be nice if Adobe could:
    1. Update their main Developer Documentation page so that Flex 4.5 content can be found under a link to Flex 4.5 content rather then have it be buried under Flex 4. Similarily it would be nice if Flex 4 content could be found under the link to Flex 4 content.
    2. Consider fixing the ASDoc that is included in the full documentation set for Flex 4.5 so it works in Chrome.

  • Create a Multiplayer game for Android/iOS using flash?

    Hi guys,
    We're creating a flash - turn based game for iphone and android using flash builider (flex) and actionscript 3. We've built the game and have a working Ai and are now trying to figure out how we can provide multiplayer support on iOS and Android.
    As far as Im aware there are the following options:
    - Serversocket (although apparently this doesnt work with mobiles.
    - p2p with native air plugin (although I understand that this requires a database as well as the build of a front end connect to players)
    - apparently there is a new way with html - whereby two players can exchange data over a website without the need for a server.
    - Third party package like appwarp?
    This is driving me crazy as I understand the principle - i.e. send data from one mobile to a database - database fires message to opposing player - updates state of game on both mobile and on the server.
    All we want is a turn based game that sends a simple string of code with the moves between two devices. Is there any way of doing this for mobile (Android and ios) using flash and actionscript 3, or flash builder - without using a database?
    Can anyone recommend a straight forward way to do this?
    If not - Im actually thinking of taking the finished game to a company and asking them to host the servers and port the game to android and ios for a cut of the royalties. Any thoughts on this?
    Thanks for you help on advance,
    T.

    Hi Aaron,
    Thanks for you kind response.
    Do you know how to use air 3.8 to create multiplayer for iOS android? It's frustrating, it's a basic turn based game so all we really need is to send 1 line of code containing a move between two devices which then changes the graphics. I've done something like this before using a MySQL server.
    I have a MySQL service on my hosting package for my domain, not sure whether I could use this?
    As far as I'm aware theres now an option in HTML 5 to do thus kind of thing without a server and swap data directly through a web address.
    Do you know roughly how much a small server costs to run?
    We're basically trying to get this on ios, android and desktop mac and pc. We also want to launch it through steam nd allow people to play each other via the steam network. Do you know or know anyone that knows about this kind of stuff?
    Thanks again, for your email. Where are you based?
    Tom.

  • Flex 4.6 IOS Compiler ADT Failed at  EXCEPTION_UNCAUGHT_CXX_EXCEPTION

    Hi All,
    I tried to create IPA file through both Windows XP and MAC by using ADT command Line, two ENV are with same JRE version and FB version, however, I met totally different results.
    On MAC, the IPA was created successfully, while on Windows XP, I am hitting "EXCEPTION_UNCAUGHT_CXX_EXCEPTION" exceptions. The log posted below:
    Searching internet, found a post @ http://stackoverflow.com/questions/8879833/flex-4-6-ios-compiler has similar error as me, but can not find any solutions there, I tried to follow some suggestion there to change different XMX size and no lucky so far.
    Post question here, can any one give me a light.
    Thanks.

    i need to display html content using flex hero for balckberry playbook..i could not find a component for it..i have tried with spark text area by setting its html text property via MobileTextField. bt i need a webview to load html content to execute javascript and all....Is there any component for it???? Please help....

    Hello,
    The only current way is to use an iFrame, or if you only need some html tags you could use the Text Layout Framework.
    Here this is the iFrame approach:
    http://code.google.com/p/flex-iframe/
    If the swc do not work in Flex4 just use its ource code which works...
    ...it is basically based on this:

  • Flash to Android = Flex Hero?

    Flex Hero, is that Actionscript to native Android code???
    Or is it just apps on adobe air on top of Android OS example user would need to have adobe air on their android phones to use your apps, or can they use your apps without installing air???

    WOW, that'd be really nice...
    I tried developing for android using eclipse and the android sdk etc..
    1. it took forever to setup...them opensource type stuff isn't meant to be easy...wish they would make a setup.exe or something.  It's like copy this here, change this file and then spend hours figuring out they missed a step in their instructions.  And the instructions were from google themselves.
    2. Then there was the idea of having to learn java...*sigh*
    Eclipse and Android development setting up process and development is bunk compared to visual studio and windows 7 phone development.  Visual studio development for windows 7 phone is like WOW.  Easy setup, and really nice work flow.  The emulator is much faster as well, anyhow too bad no one uses windows 7 phones though.
    If that's the direction that ADOBE is going with Flex, that's great...flex builder enviroment and work flow using action script creating native android apps would be like WOW!

  • Xoom Development With Flex Hero / FB Burrito

    Hello:
    I have been developing an app for Xoom using the Java SDK. We would like to use Flash so the app is more protable. I just got the Burrito beta with Flex Hero and since Xoom doesn't support flash yet there isn't much I can do except back end coding.
    Will there be an emulator for Xoom?
    Does developing using Flash create an APK that you can publish to the market? Obviously they'd need to update their device to support flash ...
    I am at a cross road, continue with Java or switch to Flash. I need some advice!
    Thanks.

    Hi,
    There's a difference between an app running on Android with the AIR runtime,
    vs a Flash web app running in the browser. Currently Xoom supports the AIR
    runtime, so you can create apps with AIR for Android and deploy them to the
    device now, without needing the Flash Player in the browser. By March 18,
    the Flash Player for the browser will be available to the Xoom. Flash Player
    in the browser is separate from the AIR runtime.
    When creating apps with Flash or Flex using the AIR for Android deployment
    option (currently in FB Burrito or Flash CS5 latest update) you can create a
    .apk file that can be installed onto any Android device that supports AIR:

  • The MessagePerformanceUtils:totalTime issue in Flex 4 (rpc.swc) using LCDS 3.1 running under JDK1.6

    We are facing an issue while using LCDS 3.1 running under JDK1.6 in Sun Solaris v5.10 OS & Adobe Flex 4.
    Scenario :-
    ===================================
    As part of our Flex-based client-server application (with Java backend) we have a performance report generation module. Following flex framework class is used to calculate the performance of various layer of a typical server-based request-response cycle.
    ; (available in rpc.swc library file)
    (for example : server time, cairngorm time, UI screen rendering time, UI event generation time etc).
    The totalTime was working properly before upgrading the rpc.swc to Flex 4 ; However it broke after migrating to Flex SDK 4; The totalTime is now coming as negative junk value.
    As we understand that the above Flex framework class method works in conjunction with LCDS running at server side on JDK.
    We suspect that the new rpc.swc taken from Flex SDK 4 is causing the issue !
    System information :
    Web Server : Weblogic 11G
    Operating System : Sun Solaris v5.10 OS running on Sparc hardware.
    Flex : Adobe Flex sdk 4.0
    Flash player : Adobe Flash Player 10
    Browser : Internet Explorer 8
    LCDS : 3.1
    JDK : JDK 1.6.0_14
    ===================================
    Has anyone faced similar problem before ? Any help or direction would be highly appreciated.
    Thanks in advance,
    Rabi
     mx.messaging.messages.MessagePerformanceUtils :totalTime

    Nothing has changed in the Flex SDK sources for this class since sometime around 2008. Are you running against the same LCDS server as you were before you updated to Flex 4?  This certainly seems strange (and bad).  Do you see the same behavior with Flex 4.5?  What was the version of Flex you were using before switching to Flex 4.0?
    If you can provide the additional information, we will look in to this.  A reproducable case that was a simple mxml application along with a simple destination config would help us narrow the problem.
    Sorry for the problems!

  • Tracking Memory usage on iOS using the Stats class

    I've been checking memory usage on an app I'm developing for iOS using the Stats class https://github.com/mrdoob/Hi-ReS-Stats ( http://help.adobe.com/en_US/as3/mobile/WS4bebcd66a74275c3-315cd077124319488fd-7fff.html#WS 948100b6829bd5a61637f0a412623fd0543-8000).
    I added the Stats class to my project and redeployed and, yikes, memory usage reported in Stats creeps up (pretty slowly) even when there's nothing happening in the app (just showing a loaded bitmap).
    To try and track down the issue I created a project with a test class that extends Sprite with just this single call in the constructor :-
    addChild( new Stats() );
    I deployed it to the device to check that it didn't gobble any memory.
    But I was Suprised to watch the memory usage creep up and up (to approx 5) before some garbage collection kicked in and takes memory back down. I left it running and then it crept up again to over 7.5 this time before being kicked back down to just below 3.
    So 2 related questions that I'd appreciate any feedback/observations/thoughts on :-
    1 - Is this normal (i.e. memory creeping up when there's nothing other than Stats in the project) ?
    2 - What is the best way to monitor memory usage within an app ? Is Stats good enough - is Stats itself causing the memory usage ?
    All the best guys !

    Also see thread (http://forums.adobe.com/message/4280020#4280020)
    My conclusions are :-
    - If you run an app and leave it idle, memory usage gradually creeps up (presumably as memory is being used to perform calcs/refresh the display etc)
    - Periodically the garbage collection kicks in and memory is brought back down
    - This cycle could be in excess of 5 mins
    Run with your real app and memory will increase and be released much more rapidly/regularly.
    - It's probably worth performing initial checks by running on your desktop to iron out any initial problems

    ^Help me out. Thanks.You don't have a class p2.Two, You do have a class java.p2.Two. Package paths aren't relative.
    Also, it's recommended not to use package names containing "java" or "javax" (or is it illegal to do so?). Change your package & folder names.

  • Using package constant in SQL

    I am trying to use a package constant in a query as follows:
    SELECT field1 FROM table t WHERE CEIL(sysdate - t.field2) > schema.package.constant
    field1 is a name
    field2 is a timestamp
    constant is an integer indicating the expiration time in days
    basically I am trying to find all expired items.
    I get the error "ORA-06553: PLS-221: 'constant' is not a procedure or is undefined" on this query.
    I use this same query as a cursor in the package itself with no errors.

    Unfortunately you cannot directly use package global variables in select statements like this.
    One workaround is to use bind variables for that:
    <p>
    SQL> CREATE OR REPLACE PACKAGE pkg
    AS
       myconstant   VARCHAR (20) := 'This is my constant';
    END pkg;
    Package created.
    SQL> VAR myconstant  VARCHAR2 (20)
    SQL> EXEC :myconstant :=  pkg.myconstant
    PL/SQL procedure successfully completed.
    SQL> SELECT :myconstant
      FROM DUAL
    :MYCONSTANT
    This is my constant

  • Using packaged functions in Apex

    Hi,
    I'm fairly new to apex and I am about to write an app which needs to access a SQL server database. My local dba has set up the transparent gateway and I can select from and update the SQLServer database no problem via a db link. What I need to decide is whether to code the sql for reports etc directly into the apex page or to call a pl/sql function returning a select statement. I would like to have all the code in packages as a lot of it will be used by multiple apps in future but is there any extra overhead in doing this:
    declare
    l_sql varchar2(4000);
    begin
    select package.function into l_sql from dual;
    return l_sql;
    end;
    rather than coding the SQL directly in the page? Also is there a more efficient way of using packaged functions to select data rather that just have it returning sql statements.
    Thanks in advance.
    Dave

    Hi
    I only use function returning select when I have a strong reason to do so, because it is so much more difficult to test and maintain. Not sure about performance, but I think it is not that much worse.
    If you simply want to reuse SELECT statements, you could use views instead.
    Anyway, if you decide to use the package solution, at least you can make it much simpler -- just code like this in the page:
    return package.function;
    I hope this helps.

  • Error when using packages

    hi!
    I am new to java .... learning how to use packages. I have created dir on my harddrive c:\learning\java ... in which i have created com\tests.... added c:\learning\java to path env variable .... And have written two java programs.
    1. jmain.java
    adds two integers and puts in another integer
    public int sum()
    2. jtest.java
    main method ... and creates an object of jmain class ... and uses
    jmain jm = jmain();
    jm.sum();
    Both these classes are in the same package com.tests and both jmain.java uses package com.tests;
    and jtest.java uses package com.tests; import com.tests.*;
    3. jmain compiles alright
    but when compiling jtest.java compiler gives an error saying can't resolve symbol
    symbol : jmain.class
    path : com.tests.jtest
    What to do now ???????? when i went to check my directory structure ... i am doing everything right.... using case okay, path is okay, etc
    still running errors .... please suggest a solution.
    thanks.

    I tried this ... it's giving me same error.
    Please help.
    I am on winXp so i added at the end of my path env var .... c:\learning\com\tests
    //jmain.java
    package com.tests;
    public class jmain
    public int x=4;
    public int y=66;
    public int sum = x+ y;
    public printsum ()
    System.out.println(sum);
    //jtest.java
    package com.tests;
    import com.tests.*;
    public class jtest
    public static void main(String [] args)
    jmain jm = jmain();
    jm.printsum();
    Above is my program. Both java files are in C:\learning\com\tests
    And, is there a difference between CLASSPATH and setting environment variable or system variable ???? What is SOURCEPATH too ???
    Please help
    Thanks in advance.
