FlexUnit Katas?

I know several languages have katas (typically in screencast form)available where a developer talks aloud while they share what they're thinking as they develop a modest project in the language. Is the anything like that available like that for flexunit? I get all the mechanics but don't appreciate how to start a project with concepts like 'now I'm thinking I'll need a class that does such and such so I first write a simple assertion then develop a class to pass the test. Then I realize it also has to account for x so I write another test or would it be in the same test or is it better to have separate suites for the varoius parts of the project.' I hope that makes sense. Something more mentoring than how to write a simple assertion about adding two numbers. Thanks

That would be so appreciated. There are a couple of decent attempts at walking people through the process but nothing that really shows how it gets integrated with the main project itself, very well, or how an experienced developer thinks as they do TDD. The couple of nice attempts in print that I've found all use the Flash Builder 4 Beta, which has just enough differences in the dialog boxes, to make one wonder if you're even on the correct screen.
Anyway, since you rarely have anything else going on in your life, I'm sure this should fit right into the schedule ;-)
Thanks much.

I find a solution, which is perhaps the most logical, I have made a backup of all files that were in conflict at the time of installation, I saved your previous paths and I've erased, because if some program dependeds of apr-util, to be reinstalled when this was installed kdesdk, there should be no conflict.
In this way, I've installed the package kdesdk with the dependencies that were missing. Finally, I already have installed kate.

• Problem with sessions in Kate Editor

Hey guys!
I'm using Kate Editor to code and i'm having problems with sessions. If kate is open and I logout KDE, when I come back to KDE all my customizations in Kate's session (activated plugins, font size, etc) are lost.
If I manually close Kate before logout from KDE, all the customizations are kept when a manually start Kate. I tried a lot of workarounds, but none worked.
Is this a bug? Someone else with this issue?
Thanks in advance!

The Warning errors are simply because you don't have the tablespaces, users, and roles defined in your application system under the DB Admin tab. Unless it is important to you to capture the physical implementation of your tables exactly as well as the table definitions, you can safely ignore these. If the physical implementation IS important to you, then you need to create these tablespaces, roles and users under the database that you created under the DB Admin tab before you start the capture.
The Error is because in the set of objects you are capturing there is a foreign key that references the table named "PLEASANT". This table must be among the objects that you are capturing, or must already be in a Table Definition in your application system in the repository.

• Is there an ant task on FlexUnit to open browser with swf embedded?

Here is the same (unanswered) question asked by someone else: http://forums.adobe.com/thread/740495?tstart=0#740495
Basically I need to open my flex app in a browser window from ant, and the FlexUnit task apparently does not support this.
I have downloaded a sample from FlexMonkey. When they (sample writers) execute flexunit in this sample, one of the arguments to FU is "url". However, I can find no evidence of this version of FU (that uses that "url" argument) existing anywhere. Using the swf argument doesn't work as documented in the previous question above. So I don't know if my problem is Flex version, or it's just not supported by FlexUnit.
I'm using the Flex sdk 3.2.0 and the FU libraries below:
flexunit-4.1.0-33-as3_3.5.0.12683.swc
flexunit-4.1.0-33-flex_3.5.0.12683.swc
flexunit-cilistener-4.1.0-33-3.5.0.12683.swc
flexunit-uilistener-4.1.0-33-3.5.0.12683.swc
flexUnitTasks-4.1.0-33.jar
Please tell me if this issue has been solved and if so what libraries I need to implement it. If it is done for Flex 4.x, but not for Flex 3.2, perhaps you could guide me to the java source for the ant task for Flex 4.x so that I can implement this for Flex 3.2 or Flex 3.x.
thanks,
Phil

@Linden - Have not heard of this side effect from anyone as of yet, but good to know. Sounds like the file lock is coming from the Flash Player and causing the spawning process (rundll32.exe) to hang around as well. The FlexUnit team runs on Hudson using the FlexUnit Ant task, but we don't seem to encounter the same issue. What's the longest interval you've tried to use with the sleep task? Does the FP ever release its handle to the test SWF on your development machines?
Not sure this is a problem with the FlexUnit Ant task, but in 4.2 we could try to explicitly kill the rundll32 process since we'll have the PID when the task launches it. Head on over to JIRA and file a feature request for us and I'll see what I can do in the new year. In the short term though, maybe try upgrading your version of the stand alone debug flash player to see if that helps. Has anyone else seen this issue? Could you possible just move the clean target to be called before the xci-test target is run? Just some suggestions.

How do you create a link to a pdf in Muse? Thought it was going to show that with Katie's menu and can't find in any of the tutorials.

The steps would be :
- Add files from file menu > select pdf > add to site
- Select the content (rectangle,text etc) and click on hyperlink dropdown > it should show you the added files list
- Select the file you want to link

• How to create a TestRunner for FlexUnit 4?

I just started with FlexUnit 4 today and can already see the benefit of all of the new features. I am a bit stumped on how to get the initial setup to work. As far as I can tell, most of the tutorials, walkthroughs, installation instructions linked to from the Adobe site are for earlier versions of FlexBuilder, or they reference classes that don't exist in the version I just downloaded. Can someone help me access these new features?
I created a test case that does not extend any base classes and uses hamcrest matchers. Here is an excerpt:
public class RangeHashMapTest
private var map:RangeHashMap;
[Before]
public function setup():void {
map = new RangeHashMap(0, 50);
map.put(6, "a");
[Test]
public function testPut_Valid():void {
map.put(5, "foo");
assertThat("foo", equalTo(map.getValue(5)));
[Test(expects="TypeError")]
public function testPut_invalid():void {
map.put("a", "foo");
[Test]
public function testGet():void {
assertThat(map.getValue(-10), isA(nullValue()));
I then created a TestRunner based on the FlexUnit walkthrough link on the Developer Documentation section of the FlexUnit 4 site:
<?xml version="1.0" encoding="utf-8"?>
<mx:Application xmlns:mx="http://www.adobe.com/2006/mxml" xmlns="*"
xmlns:flexunit="flexunit.flexui.*"
creationComplete="onCreationComplete()">
<mx:Script>
<![CDATA[
import com.ericfeminella.collections.RangeHashMapTest;
import flexunit.framework.TestSuite;
// Create the test suite and run the tests
private function onCreationComplete():void
testRunner.test = createSuite();
testRunner.startTest();
// Creates the test suite to run
private function createSuite():TestSuite {
var testSuite:TestSuite = new TestSuite();
testSuite.addTestSuite( RangeHashMapTest );
return testSuite;
]]>
</mx:Script>
<!-- FlexUnit GUI Component -->
<flexunit:TestRunnerBase id="testRunner" width="100%" height="100%" />
</mx:Application>
When I run this, I get an Error:
"Type Coercion failed: cannot convert ...:RangeHashMapTest@4c6e661 to flexunit.framework.Test."
I tried to have my test extend TestCase, and it ran successfully, but all of the tests fail, because the [Before] never gets executed, so map is always null. It also says that all of my tests have no asserts. It seems as though I am using the new code, but not able to take advantage of the new features.
Thanks!
Brian

Hi Brian,
I had the same problem you had. Eventually I found the right code and
dug into the examples included with the source. Just about all the
examples and tutorials I found just didn't work - not because they
were for old code but because they left out critical steps. I don't
have the time to create a tutorial or to look carefully at your code,
but I can point you to my own code that is using FlexUnit4, Flex
Builder 3, Flex SDK 3.x and compiles successfully on both Windows XP
and Mac OS X.

• I have an older s3 that is off-network, How can I get the kit kat update on my s3?

I have a "retired" Galaxy S3 that I am keeping as a spare- The Kit Kat update supposedly has been available since 6/20, but I cannot get the software on my off-network phone to update- even though is is connected by wi-fi. I spent about a half hour chatting on-line with tech support Monday, 6/23, who assured me that is would update over wi-fe- although I have NOT been able to do so yet. I went into the Verizon store yesterday, and the woman I spoke to there told me all I had to do was swap SIM cards with my active phone, then casually mentioned that if I did that, it would void the warranty on my new phone by taking it off-network. Great, just what I would want to do...
I am seriously considering re-activating it for a couple hours, just to get it updated, then deactivating it again. It would seem there should be an easier way.

Thank you for the prompt reply, but still unsatisfying. I spent a couple hundred dollars for this phone less than 2 years ago (not to mention the $600 for the S5 off-contract a couple months ago) and you are telling me that I have to void the warranty or open a new data-service line to get the proper support for my Verizon-branded device? At this point the S3 is off warranty and primarily used on wi-fi- I could just as well root it and run custom ROMs I suppose- nothing to lose at this point, since the company that sold it to me won't even help to keep it up-to-date. I don't mean to sound like a whiner, but this is not what most would consider good customer support.

one of that flexunit test script class is as below:
package Tests.Classes
import flexunit.framework.Assert;
import org.flexunit.Assert;
import org.flexunit.asserts.assertEquals;
public class DummyASyncTest
[Test]
public function pause() : void
assertEquals(true, true);
trace("I M in dummy");
All other tests are dummy tests which just asserts(true, true).
I am not sure if I doing something wrong or forgot to take care of something.

Hi,
I have flexunit project which I am trying to run on linux server.
1. I have Tests project.
2. I am trying to compile it on linux server and creating Tests.swf file and then executing Tests.swf using ant on 64 bit linux server using standalone flash debug player.
3. Tests project contains 4 tests and first tests always fail with following error,

• How do setup FlexUnit in your CI build process on 64-Bit Linux

Hello everyone. I am trying to setup FlexUnit in my build process and am using Rackspace cloud servers for my build server. I only have the option of Linux 64 bit distros or Windows 32b/64b. I started setting up and configuring everything on Linux but ran into problems installing the required stand alone player for test execution using FlexUnit. There is no 64-bit linux compatitble version of the stand alone player. In configuring the system to use the browser plugin on the machine instead of the stand alone player for executing the tests, I then get a manual interaction component which doesn't fit well with an automated CI build.
Am I the only person out there trying to integrate FlexUnit into my CI process on a 64b Linux machine? Any pointers, tips, workarounds or general hypothetical ideas would be great!

@mbbender - Answers below:
> I have been able to get the Flash Plugin working in a browser on my 64b Ubuntu 10.4 system. However, from my understanding I can not use the flash plugin from a browser to properly execute a headless execution of my tests during the CI process. To execute the tests as part of the CI process I need the Flash Stand Alone Player.
-- As of FlexUnit 4.1-beta2, you have the option of executing your tests using the stand-alone debug Flash Player using the default mechanism to launch that player or using a custom command, which could potentially point to the browser. Check out the docs on the Ant task @ http://docs.flexunit.org/index.php?title=Ant_Task#Usage and the sample CI build using a browser @ http://github.com/flexunit/flexunit/blob/master/FlexUnit4SampleCIProject/build.browser.xml for more details on how to do this.
> Are you saying that I can somehow use the Flash Plugin dependencies to install the Flash Stand Alone Player? If so, would I then need a 32b emulator wrapper for running the Stand Alone Player? Or, are you suggesting that I can somehow use the Flash Plugin in the browser to do what I need to execute my tests during the Hudson build?
-- Although I'm not a savvy Linux admin, it's my understanding that recent 64-bit Linux distros can execute 32-bit applications as well as 64-bit applications. The only req I'm aware of is that the 32-bit version of the dependencies must be available. In this case, executing the 32-bit version of the SA player should work from what I understand.
> Do you have a CI build process setup on a Linux 64b CentOS system with FlexUnit? To be honest, I'm more concerned with the end result right now than learning how to do it on my own and would like to know if you can potentially help me get this done a little quicker if you are interested.
-- I currently have a setup using 64-bit CentOS and running the 32-bit SA player, although it's not on Adobe's proper list of supported OSes. We've worked with other folks who have the 32-bit SA player running with FlexUnit on Ubuntu 64-bit. There was some feedback on some issues using older versions of openSUSE, but I don't know too many details re: the problem.
Hope this helps.

• FlexUnit not generating TestRunner.swf when compiled with Hudson / Ant

I've been dabbling with FlexUnit (4.1 RC2) and CI under Hudson. To that effect, I chose to test the server configuration with the sample CI project that comes with the 4.1 RC2 distribution of FlexUnit, and compiling the project with Hudson (now Jenkins after most recent update) and Ant (1.8). It doesn't work because it does not seem to compile the TestRunner swf. After exploring the artifacts in the workspace, it appears that the TestRunner mxml file is created as you would expect, but then the mxmlc compiler is seemingly silently failing to complete the compile step.
It's worth noting at this point that compiling on my local dev machine does work (as it does on a half dozen other dev machines), also, the Hudson configuration is good for compiling other Flash projects. So mxmlc from the Flex SDK is setup and compiling other projects successfully.
Here's the first part of the build log from Hudson / Jenkins as it tries to compile the sample project:
compile:
[mxmlc] Loading configuration file /opt/flex/frameworks/flex-config.xml

After this line I would expect another line indicating the swf output and the size of the file - as I see in the build log on my dev machine - but that never happens because mxmlc never writes the swf. I have no idea why this fails.
Then there is a bunch of other stuff to do with attempting to launch the test with Xvnc:
[flexunit] Using the following settings for the test run:
[flexunit]      FLEX_HOME: [/opt/flex]

[flexunit] Closing client connection ...
[flexunit] Closing server on port [1024] ...
But of course by this point we're toast because mxmlc has not output the TestRunner swf, so the filename is invalid. If anyone has any idea what's wrong, or any suggestions on things to try, please let me know, we're desperate!!
Thanks for your time.

Try ensuring the flash player on the server is definitely the Flash Debugger, also you have set headless to false, it needs to be true.

Many thanks for In advance for your help ..

We had a similar problem in my project. Took a lot of research and trial and error, but we finally narrowed it down to the resource.properties file. Turns out that if the file gets too big it causes this problem. Extending the timeout doesn't help. You have to break your resource.properties into more granular files to reduce the file size. This seems to fix the problem. We have had it happen several times since then and we know how to fix it, so we get it fixed pretty quickly.
Not sure if this will fix your problem, but it fixed ours.

• How to use SequenceRunner with FlexUnit 4

Hi,
I just read the Wiki page about Fluint Sequences at http://docs.flexunit.org/index.php?title=Sequences#Sequences_from_Fluint. I really would like to use sequences as it seems a great way to test flows in UI components.
So I created a first test based on the examples in the wiki. Unfortunately it does not work as I hoped.
The testcase:
package flex.filter.eventFilter.view
import flash.events.Event;
import mx.events.FlexEvent;

When sequence.run() is executed I get this error:

So my guess is that the SequenceRunner is not fully compatible with FlexUnit 4 as asyncronous calls that are internal to the SequenceRunner are not marked as async.
Best regards,
Carsten

If you are interested, I solved it with the TestCase class in the flexunit.framework package:
package com.soma.core.tests.suites.commands {
import flexunit.framework.TestCase;
import flash.events.Event;
import com.soma.core.tests.suites.support.TestSequenceCommand;
import mx.core.FlexGlobals;
import flash.display.Stage;
import com.soma.core.tests.suites.support.TestAsyncCommand;
import com.soma.core.tests.suites.support.TestEvent;
import com.soma.core.Soma;
