FM Transmitter - Griffin iTrip AutoPilot - Compatible?

Hello:
I just purchased a Nano 6th Gen for my wife. She has to have an FM transmitter and her old school original iTrip obviously does not fot the Nano.
I have purchased but not opened the iTrip AutoPilot from Griffin. Before trying, I thought I'd find out if it's 100% compatible. I looked at Griffin's site and it'e 5 years out of date in some areas. I tried to call both posed phone nmbers and email and got no response. In fact, the phone numbers seem to be disconnected. I fear that Griffin are no more.
Can any one confirm that this FM transmitter is 100% compatible?
Thanks

Yes, I looked at that. They have an iTrip Auto that is compatible (by their listing). The iTrip Auto is listed as compatible. I suspect the Griffin webpage is outdated.
I opened the box and tried the device. It does work in terms of being compatible so that solves that issue and also confirms the Griffin page to incorrect.
The actual performance of the FM transmitter is abysmal. The unit was with 2 feet of the cars FM antenna and the resulting transmission on a clear channel was very poor.
I am familiar with these devices and the general poor performance but this model was the worst yet. I know they have FCC power limits but better improvements to the antenna should be made.
I'll try calling them today and if they are still unavailable via phone, I'll probably return the product. Sorry Griffin!
Has anyone tried their "real time support" link? It's an email form... So much for real time

I was bought an iTrip AutoPilot from Griffin for my iPhone 3G and it worked fine for about 10 minutes. Then Just stopped. Now when I plug it in it comes up with this accessory is not compatible with iPhone. Contacted Griffin who got we to soft start my iPhone still not working, then update phone software. Which I've done still no good. Any ideas??

  • Volume control will not respond when iPod connected to Griffin iTrip

When I connect the iPod Classic 80GB from the bottom to the Griffin iTrip and to a 12 volt source, and listen to the music on an external FM radio, as in a boat, I cannot change the volume through the wheel of the iPod. I have to go to the radio to change volume.
What do I have to do so that the volume can be changed from the wheel of the iPod?
I would appreciate very much the solution to this problem.
    Suribe

This is normal - cant adjust the volume from the iPod if we connect it via dock (the bottom of the iPod). If you would like to adjust the volume with the wheel of the iPod, then you should plug your iPod via its earphone jack - of course, different cable i.e. minijack to RCA audio cable

  • HT1380 Hi, I need an adapter so that my iPhone 4 will fit onto my Griffin iTrip in the car? Who knows where I can get one please?

Can anyone tell me where I get an adaptor for my griffin iTrip so that my iPhone 4 sits in the cradle comfortably?
    Thanks

    Hey joshuafromisr,
If you resintall iTunes, it should fix the issue. The following document will go over how to remove iTunes fully and then reinstall. Depending on what version of Windows you're running you'll either follow the directions here:

    or here:

  • Newbie question - griffin itrip with dock connector

apologies if I've used the wrong forum (it seemed the most appropriate that would let me post a topic)
I've just bought a griffin itrip with dock connector for my 20G Iphoto. When I plug it in there is no LED display on the itrip. Can anyone help?
    Thanks in advance

    Nathan,
Then the review(s) that are currently on the Apple Store website are bogus, which is exactly what I was afraid of. Don't people realize that putting fake reviews of products on the internet does nothing to help people, and in fact, does only harm?
Also have another question. What does everyone use for listening to their iPods in the car? I have an Aiwa receiver that has an auxillary input, but when I use it (in this car, at least), the sound is awful because it is not using the factory-installed powered amp. In my other car, which did not have the amp, the iPod sounded great, but it sounds like crap in the van because it doesn't use the amp. I don't know why and Aiwa was no help, either.
    Any ideas or suggestions?

  • Why won't my new iPod nano work with griffin itrip?

I just receiveed a new ipod nano as part of the replacement programme, but it will not work with my griffin itrip or my old speakers even though the connection is the same - anyone know why?
    thanks

I used an iTrip with my old Classic 160, but when I got my 6th gen nano, it wouldn't work either. My iTrip was old, and the connector had lost it's plastic bits, so I thought that might be the reason. I could still use my Logitech speaker dock, so I don't think they changed the connector.

  • Iphone/pod and Griffin Itrip

Why won't the ipod in my iphone play with my old ipod's griffin itrip in my car....get device not compatable, switch to airplane mode? error....

That will likely be because your old iTrip was made before the iPhone existed, and compatibility is not guaranteed.

  • IPod w/ Griffin iTrip

I recently purchased the Griffin iTrip and I can not get a clear channel in my car. Any Help?

    Hi,
Just follow the steps that you will find in the Griffin website for adjusting the ITripe with the IPOD. I used to have the same problem but i solved using this manual. I'm quoting the steps here. Just make sure that you have the volume set to 50-70%. This is important.
    " iTrip Support
My iTrip stopped broadcasting. How do I get it working again?
    Step 1
First, reset the iPod by holding down the Menu and Play buttons (Menu and Select buttons on the 4G iPod and iPod mini) at the same time for about 5-10 seconds until you see the Apple logo appear.
    Step 2
Once it displays the main menu again, play a song and make sure that the volume on the iPod is set between 50% - 70%.
    Step 3
Then follow the procedure for retuning the iTrip. Basically, select the iTrip station that you want the iPod to broadcast on. When the station starts to play and LED light in the iTrip starts to flash rapidly, immediately tap the Play/Pause button to pause the iPod and it should lock in the station. You will know that the station is locked in if the iTrip LED light blinks slowly 3 times after the rapid flashing stops.
After you see the iTrip LED light blink slowly 3 times, press the menu button to navigate back to the main menu and then when you play your music it should be broadcasting on the new station you programmed.
How do I tune my iTrip?
To get the most performance from your iTrip you need to tune it to the correct radio frequency. These detailed instructions show you how to how to select the best frequency to use with your iTrip. You can also view our iTrip Tuning Tutorial Video by clicking on the link to the right.
Note: These instructions assume you've already run the iTrip Installer that came on the CD-ROM with your iTrip, and you've synched your iPod with either iTunes or MusicMatch. If you haven't, please run the iTrip installer and sync your iPod before continuing.
The iTrip comes preset to 87.9 on your FM radio. If a radio station in your area is broadcasting on that frequency, you need to find a different frequency for your iTrip. Scan through the FM dial on your radio until you find a frequency with nothing but static. Depending on where you live, there may be many open frequencies, or only a few.
Once you've found an available frequency, you need to find its matching iTrip station file on your iPod. The iTrip Station file is a special, five-second music file that tells the iTrip the frequency on which it will broadcast. You want to "Play" this file, but only this file. Here's how:
    1. Navigate to Playlists, and then to iTrip Stations on your iPod.
    2. Scroll down this list of station frequencies until you find the matching frequency.
    3. With this station highlighted, press the iPod's Play button or the button in the center of the scroll wheel.
    4. When the light on the iTrip starts flashing rapidly, press the Pause button, to stop playback. (The Pause button, which is also the Play button, and has a right-facing arrow and two vertical bars.) This step is very important because the iPod will continue on to the next station file if the Pause button isn't pressed, and your iTrip won't know which station to use to broadcast.
    5. After you've pressed the Pause button the iTrip's light will flash slowly three times, and then remain on. This tells you the iTrip has been tuned to the new frequency and is ready for use.
You’re now ready to listen to your iPod on any FM radio., so select your music and rock on! But make sure the volume on your iPod is set between 50 and 70% of maximum; any lower, and iTrip won’t be able to hear your music; any higher and you may hear distortion.
That’s it! iTrip will remember your new station until you decide to change it. You can change stations as often as you like. Please note that you may have to play around with several different frequencies before you find the one that gives you the best sound quality."

  • Charging 3G ipod in car through Griffin iTrip

i recently bought griffin's itrip for dock connector ipods--i have a 3rd generation one--to play though my car stereo. i would now like to purchase a car charger that can charge while the iTrip is still attached to the ipod. griffin makes such a charger called "powerjolt" that can connect to the itrip via mini USB and therefore charge the ipod while it plays through the radio (the iTrip hooks into the bottom of the ipod and uses the ipods battery power). the griffin site says that this device is not compatible with 3G ipods (because it uses a USB cable if one were to charge straight to the ipod), but i would like to know if there is anyone out there who has has a similar situation and has found that the mini usb connection is enough to bypass the compatibility issue. I'd appreciate any help!
    3G ipod   Mac OS X (10.4.8)

Many iPod (and some iPhone!) car accessory charge units use the obsolete Firewire connection which is no longer used in the iPhone 3G or latest iPods. This is in spite of the fact that Apple announced long ago that Firewire support would be discontinued for iPhones and iPods.
    http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1476
The only fix is to refit your car with a USB charger.
